Greetings! I want to ask, what is a zine and/or a big bang?
Hi!
Zines started out as a thing in punk circles, but have since become a bit of a stable in big fandoms. Originally, they were made by one/very few people, then printed out at home and folded into little booklets/stapled together/etc. Nowadays, a lot of zines are professionally printed books with a lot of different contributors (you might've heard of the rise fashion zine, it's exactly this) that get shipped out to people who pre-order them.
That's not what I want to do. First of all, I don't have the experience to handle worldwide shipping and finances and everything and second of all, that's also just not what I want to do? I'd want the zine to be freely available as a pdf that people can either keep digitally or print out themselves!
A lot of big zines also only take on a limited number of people, so even when you apply there's no guarantee you'll get chosen. I wouldn't want to do it like that either since I always found that aspect of zines kinda sad? I don't want to run a fandom event and then stop part of the fandom from participating in it.
As for big bangs, I think they used to be much bigger back in the day? They're another event where a bunch of people come together. Typically, writers pitch an idea and start writing it. Then, once the first draft is done, they get assigned an artist, who then draws something for the fic!
I've seen some big bangs with really high minimum word counts for writers (like 50k) while artists are expected to make one or two pieces, I'd want to balance that more. Currently, I'm thinking maybe 10k for writers and two drawings for artists? But it's still very up in the air haha

#i tried my best to make sure everyone will get at least three prompts theyll be happy to fulfill👍#which was HARD. guys did you know that assigning everyone prompts spanning different iterations and characters and and and is difficult#(im being very lighthearted. this was about as much work as i expected it to be)
