I would actually kill to read this omg. The idea of Rikan becoming infatuated with Cinder is so hilarious.

Like Cinder gets awkward when Kai flirts with her so I can only imagine that times 100 if it’s a young Rikan doing it. She would not know what to do.

Imagine Back to the future, Kaider AU?

I don't know if you are a referencing the post I made about this, but I already have an entire Back to the Future TLC AU mapped out. Cinder is Marty, Kai is Jennifer, Dr. Erland is Dr. Emmett Brown. In the AU I do considerably change up some things so it flows better with the TLC universe, and yes poor Kai does have a larger role than Jennifer does. I don't know if I'll ever write this AU because I'd want it to span all three movies which is a lot 🥲 But I'll give you the basic premise:

Cinder is a high schooler in 1985 training to be a mechanic. She's friends with Doc, an eccentric scientist who once invented a time machine but accidentally sent his daughter Crescent back in time. He's since then been trying to recreate it so that he can get her back and is using Cinder's mechanical skills to help him--though she has no idea what the project is for. Cinder is dating Kai, a high school senior a year ahead of her who's preparing for University. His parents don't approve of the relationship because Cinder is the orphan of Channary Blackburn. The Blackburn family took over Kai's family business and drained it of all profits, leaving his family for broke.

As you can guess, Cinder and Kai accidentally end up in 1955. As they try to figure out how to get home (lack of plutonium and all) Cinder wards off her young Aunt Levana--the queen bee of the high school. When she does in a particularly epic skateboarding sequence, a young Rikan becomes infatuated with her instead of Kai's mother. Cinder is a dead ringer for her mother Channary at this age. So Rikan confuses the two, and every time Cinder rejects him, Channary flirts with him and puts him back on the chase. Which, if not remedied, will mean that Kai and Cinder will be erased from existence...

what makes Cinder such a compelling 2012 not-like-other-girls protagonist is that she is surrounded by Other Girls, and she loves them. Iko and Peony are the most stereotypical teenage girls obsessed with pretty clothes and boys and pop culture and she would die for either of them in a heartbeat. Iko rolls in with makeup smeared all over her plastic face and Cinder is like "ayy girl slay!". she knows that she is JUST like other girls in all the ways that matter.

It was typical of royal residences of course, and Selene had no choice but to find the stiffness normal, having never known otherwise.

Her fingers absentmindedly toyed with the pages of a book she had procured from the palace library. It almost felt like thievery, which was mostly ridiculous—she was the crown princess of Luna, she could take a book without consequence. But while that may have accounted for much on Luna, on earth it only granted so many liberties.

No because they are the found family sibling duo like the vibes were captured perfectly they give huge brother and sister who pester each other to no end but ultimately also care a lot at the end of the day energy

somehow when I first read the lunar chronicles I had the impression that cinder was the long suffering one aboard the rampion, but I’m rereading them and now remember that cinder and thorne are in the background being an idiot duo with 1 brain cell between them 90% of the time:

they are always wearing matching outfits (prison uniforms then military surplus)

while scarlet and wolf are having personal moments, cinder and thorne are sitting on the crates playing cards and complaining to iko that the other person is cheating (“I am not cheating!!!1!”)

cue: them running from the cops at full speed screaming “IKO OPEN THE DOORS!!!” every two weeks

dropping their unconscious friends on the ground and doubling over panting bc they’re not fit enough for the Fugitive Rebel Lifestyle

huddling over émilie when recovers from fainting like ok hello how r you I know she has a robot arm please don’t scream

physically pushing each other out of the pilot’s seat when they’re video calling cress

favorite kai moments from the series??

I wasn't lying when I said to post my favourite Kai moments is to post the entire book series. I took what I thought was a few moments and when I checked it was like 30 moments. I have more on the way, I promise. These are the less mentioned moments, I mean, everyone loves "I don't see that her being cyborg is relevant." So I don't need to post that.

Dropping the latest Patreon Sketch-a-Wish for May! The opening scene for The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, featuring Cinder, Kai, Iko (who is basically an EVE/Wall-E love-child), an unconscious Nainsi and a bunch of easter egg items, as requested in our poll. (can you point them out?)

This was definitely one where the background itself was its own character; There’s so much happening here and it’s very nuanced to the context of the scene. I think those who aren’t familiar with the book will have a hard time figuring out what’s happening here - but seriously, caption this artwork: “Doting dad drops off his two android kids at day camp where the youngest has already stolen the cyborg foot off of the caretaker.” … and it still works. 😂

In order to fish for Easter Egg items, I re-listed to the Lunar Chronicles for the first time since I first read them a few years back; they were my gateway series into the bookish community and I absolutely fell in love with it all over again! I have Gilded on my TBR shortlist, and just recently listed to Heartless last month. I’m definitely on a Meyer bender, with the fabulous Rebecca Soler (the narrator) to keep me company!

Remember when Emperor Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth was so desperate to get this random mechanic that he’d met three days earlier to go to a ball with him that, after he’d been denied twice, he shouted “GO TO THE BALL WITH ME” at her in the middle of a plague research lab, and after the aforementioned flustered mechanic shoved him back into the elevator they had just exited, he had the audacity to say, “well, that got your attention,” like he DIDN’T just potentially cause an international incident

Because of Thorne it’s so easy to forget that Kai is like. Kind of insane? Like, as compared to Thorne he’s the Tired Mom Friend, but on his own he’s a lil bit of a lunatic? Love him

I DID IT. I promised it, and I did it and I’m actually proud of how it turned out. I needed this yall. This fic could technically take place before Wedding of the Era, but I’m too lazy to go back, link and re-number chapters in order to put this in there. It could also just be read as a stand alone. 3339 words Kaider angst where he realizes just how shitty Adri was to Cinder. Warnings: mentions of past emotional abuse and neglect.
