steddies child on tiktok doing the “my dad was the original teenage dirtbag” trend and all the comments are thirsting over him ofc but then there’s steve. this kids literally dad. going fucking insane and embarrassing his kid bc he’s just thirsting over his husband like “oooooh mygodddd i forgot holy shit he was so hot how did i bag him oh my god that’s my husband dude fuuuuck oh my god” and steddies kid just replies liek “dad if you don’t gET OUT IF MY COMMENTS” and it makes the tiktok go viral and everyone’s like “other dad reveal IMMEDIATELY” and so the kid posts pics of them together from the 80s and 90s and. the crowd goes wild. everyone and their moms are thirsting over this kids parents and they regret every decision they’ve ever made.

*also in the comments of the tiktok with pics of both of them. eddie is there freaking the fuck out over old pics of steve and he DOES cry seeing the pictures of them from when they were kids. he cries so much. he gets so emotional.

It was hard sometimes, for Steve to forget the many sights of the upside down. The strangest things would remind him of it. He spills his coffee and the sprawls of liquid look for a moment like vines, he stares too long at the plughole in his kitchen sink and sees portals; dark holes to another world. And sometimes, when Eddie sleeps, he doesn't see rest. He sees death. His mind superimposes blood onto Eddie's cheeks and lips, and the sound of Dustin's sobs surges through his mind, just like when he heard them first.

Hearing someone you love cry, a child you love cry, surges you into action, and grips at your need to protect them. But there are some things that people just cannot be protected from. There is no doubt that the same sight that haunts Steve, as he looks upon Eddies dead sleeping face, will haunt Dustin for the rest of his life. Eddie has been back for a long time now, Steve has spent more time with him since he came back than he ever did before he died. Maybe that just makes it worse. The devastation wrought by Eddie's death when Steve barely knew him was, unbearable. And the closer they become, the more of Eddie's habits he learns, the laughs he hears, and the memories they share. It is all undercut by the feeling of it all being ripped away. Gone before it had the chance to grow and cultivate.

It's been months since he came back, almost a year since it happened, and the tendrils of the upside down are still appearing in coffee spills, in memories of blood stains on Eddie's lips. The feeling of loss lies beneath it all, sometimes it reminds Steve of how lucky he is to know Eddie now, knowing he almost didn't have the chance to. But on days like today, when his memories are coated in blood, death feels just around the corner. Superimposed, just waiting to lay over.
