Why Handmade Soap? Handmade soap is real soap in its pure form. It is the result of a chemical reaction between vegetable fats, water, and lye. When combined they transform into soap and glycerin with no lye remaining through a process called saponification. Why is Handmade Soap Different from Commercial Soap? Commercial soaps are made in large factories using cheap ingredients. Often they contain synthetic detergents and have their glycerin removed. Handmade soaps are made locally in small batches by artisan soapmakers, like myself, with high-quality ingredients, oils and additives added for their properties. All the effort and creativity involved in the soapmaking process results in natural soaps that are unique, practical and pretty. How to Care for Handmade Soap? To enjoy a long-lasting bar of soap do not leave it submerged in water for too long and try to keep it away from direct streams of water. Keep it well-drained, allowing it to dry, between uses with a self-draining soap dish or leave it to stand on its end so that air can circulate around it. Unused soaps need to be stored in a cool, dry place - preferably not the bathroom.
