General PSA's for begginer alt crafting
- superglue heats up when in contact with fiber, your craft can start smoking or even catch on fire
- you can wash clothing painted with acrylic paint in the washing machine if you turn it inside out and use the lowest temperature
- don't put painted clothes in the dryer.
- you can wash clothes with metal bits in the washing machine but use the handwashing setting, dry the metal bits with a paper towel before hanging them to dry, and know that it WILL be loud
- synthetic dye is needed to dye synthetic fibers and requires a long time simmering in a boiling pot. This WILL stink up the house and you NEVER want to make food in that pot again
- faux leather is vinyl not leather. Get vinyl paint to paint on it
- don't use your teeth as tools, they don't regenerate. Reconstructing enamel costs a small fortune (ask me how I know.)
- when handsewing a lot through thick fabric get thin needles, it will require less force and be less taxing on your wrists. When machine sewing get a higher grade needle (~130 for jean)
- embroidery floss is overpriced and not as strong as it looks. For sewing on heavy stuff get denim thread, it will last forever
- don't feed a 60$ home sewing machine ten layers of denim before you learn how much a servicing fee costs, these things are dellicate
- spray paint is best applied from 30-40cm away, in swift movements. Putting too much or applying from too close will cause drips. You can sand them down and apply a new layer of paint AFTER they dry. Wipe the can nozzle after painting if it's messy, you don't want it to clog and become unusable
- water based markers on fabric will bleed, if not instantly then with time, alcohol markers will fade with time
- most fabric glues are machine washable up to a certain temperature. modgepodge is not waterproof, hitack is handwash only. Check the instructions
- the flatter the surface the easier hot glue will peel off. Faux leather stands no chance, fibers like yarn will hold it best, but is impossible to remove the glue from them in the future
- rivets are a thing that exists, only require a hammer to install and can be used as permanent fabric attachment
- studs, gromets and other metal junk at small fabric stores are laughably overspriced
- acetone (found in nail polish remover) will remove acrylic stains out of furniture, flooring and faux leather, if used in excess can damage the laquer. Can also be used to remove prints and glue off of plastic (do a small test before commiting, might melt the plastic it it's grade is low)
- residue from stickers (and k-tape) can be removed with oil
- acrylic stains cannot be removed out of clothing or carpet so protect your area before painting and don't wear clothes you care about
- if your thread keeps getting tangled or snagging while handsewing try waxing it
- you can lock in screw-in spikes with screw lock glue if you're scared of them falling off because they unscrew
- you can add washers to screw-in spikes if you're scared of them falling through flimsy fabric or too big of a hole
- if you're making anything out of soda cans have a metal file on hand, they are deceptively sharp and will hurt you and rip through fabric you're installing them in
- bleach can be found in mold killing spray (don't touch that shit with bare hands. chemical burn.)
- fabric paints are no different from slightly dilluted acrylic. You can make it yourself by adding a bit of fabric softener to acrylic or honestly even water
- if you are setting anything with an iron use parchment paper or a pressing cloth to pervent your stuff from sticking to your iron and ruining it
- if you want a safety pin somewhere permanently pinch it shut with pliers
- as much as you can, avoid putting glue on clothing, it makes it really hard to change your decisions later on and upcycle the project in the future
- kiss your friends

I HATE this insistence that we have a moral obligation to worsen our health for the "greater good!!"
"Don't ignore politics-"
STOP. STOP IT. If that's what it takes for you to survive, do it.
There's a reason in the mental hospital they block the news channels! It fucks people up! People find the world so damaged, future so hopeless, and situations so overwhelming they literally kill themselves!
Yes, yes, the activism guilt-tripping is supposed to be for those who simply don't care, but the disabled people who do care are the ones who wind up feeling guilty!
"It's a privilege to be able to ignore politics-"
No, it's a privilege to be able to pay attention to politics without having to be literally hospitalized.
Do. What. It. Takes. To. Survive.
"I need ALL of you to start paying attention-"
Wrong. You need all of us who are ABLE to start paying attention.
Do what it takes to survive.
They are asking you to join in a 70-mile hike up a mountain, where in order to win, as many people as possible must reach the top as quickly as possible! But you are in excruciating pain and have no legs! There is no accessible way up the mountain! In trying to climb the mountain, you will cause yourself irreparable harm and likely death! You feel bad, you're letting everyone down, you can't keep up, you're about to fall, but your friend is saying "hey, I get it, sometimes my legs get super sore, but you have to keep climbing! It's our duty! Keep going! The only way to save everyone is if we do this together!"
They DON'T get it. Even if they say "well I know so-and-so who also has no legs and he just uses his arm-strength and he's at the top already, what if I carry you for a few steps until you have your strength back?" You're not him! He's clearly aquired tools and strengthened muscles you have not, and might never be able to! Only YOU know what you can handle. Do not fall to your death because you feel guilty!
Survive.
Survive.
Sometimes, the biggest act of resistance is surviving.

Jesus am I tired of Tumblr's gatekeeping of solidarity movements. If you asked someone at an in-person cripplepunk meet-up to provide a list of their disabilities to you so you could validate if they're the right kind of cripple for you, you're the one who gets kicked out, not them. Hell, if you asked for a list at an online meet, I'd boot you, too.
The idea that there's some hard bright line which exists between all disabilities of all other organs and disabilities of this one organ is bizarre and unhelpful. It also perpetuates the "but mental disabilities are different" mindset which leads to "oh but mental health coverage is optional, different, and can be shunted off into its own little box."
I have a disability where one of my organs doesn't function properly bc it doesn't make enough of a certain kind of juice, which makes it difficult for me to do certain things which I need to do to function. I have to adapt my life, change what I eat and how I move my body, take medications and rely on others for assistance with my condition. If I don't do that, this condition has been known to kill people. Is that diabetes or post-traumatic stress disorder?
I have another disability in which my nervous system doesn't behave properly, and that causes me great difficulty in my life. I have had to change what I eat, the medications I take, how much coffee I drink, how I rest, and how I deal with the medical establishment. This disability and its diagnosis has profoundly affected how I live my life, and I require assists and accommodations to live my life as I choose. Is that disability ADHD or physical damage to my spine from the tumor which compressed my spinal cord & left scars behind when it was removed?
Do anxiety and paranoia and insomnia and depression count if they're symptoms of celiac disease? If not, why not? They're disabling effects of an autoimmune disorder. And regardless, it's because body not act right so... wtf? How about my memory issues that come from damage from a medication used to treat the pain in my legs?
Solidarity movements are reciprocal, y'all, and I'm exhausted of "you must be this queer/this trans/this disabled to come in." Maybe I'm just too fucking old and too fucking tired to listen to this week's Discourse ™️ about who trademarked what term when while actual problems exist.
I know it probably seems like you're doing something productive to you, but I assure you, you're not. If your issue is "these specific people are being dicks," deal with those people being dicks, and don't ascribe their dickishness to their disability. The problem is they're being a dick.
If your issue is instead "but this isn't as disabling as what I deal with" or "I have that disability and it's not as bad for me as my other disability" or "but it feels good for me to draw a line between disabilities of this one organ and every other organ," then it is you. You are being the dick.
Perpetuating the non-existent line between "physical" and "mental" disabilities helps absolutely no one. It places mental disabilities by default in a "not as bad" category and an "all in your head" one, which ... like, do I need to explain to y'all why functioning labels and categories aren't helpful in disability movements? Why are we resurrecting this shit and giving it new polish?
To be clear, I am not interested in debating this, so trying to tell me how your no-brain-problems-allowed approach is right and good, actually, is a waste of your time, because there is absolutely no way to convince me that trying to keep certain kinds of disabilities out of a general disability solidarity movement based on the organ that disability centers in has any use whatsoever. The line between "mental" and "physical" disabilities is blurry as fuck and trying to fence off all brain problems is not okay, especially since y'all don't mean that because a lot of things which are caused by the brain acting in a non-standard matter are considered "physical" disabilities.
Jesus, y'all make me tired. This bullshit is the least punk thing ever.

I love being plural. I love all the quiet moments on the bus, or in the kitchen while my roommate’s home, where one of my headmates will whisper something funny to me and I’ll laugh even though I don’t mean to. I’ll hope that no one heard, but maybe they did, and for a moment I’ll think that that’s alright. My experience of being plural is all soft and warm and comforting and it’s not my problem if someone else sees me talking to myself and thinks it’s scary or strange. I don’t deserve to be ashamed of myself just because other people would be ashamed to be me. For a moment, being plural is something I’m proud of in the same way that I’m proud to be trans.
But eventually, reality will set in. I don’t feel comfortable being openly neurodivergent in public, in fact, I think it’s a very narrow slice of neurodivergent people who have the privilege of choosing not to mask. I still try my best not to laugh on the bus, and I only tell people I’m plural if I’m absolutely sure I can trust them.
But it’s hard not to feel ashamed of yourself, living like that, where basic facts about your existence are tightly guarded secrets. If there’s nothing wrong with me for being like this, why do I live in fear of anyone finding out? I wish I could come out as plural like I came out as trans. Maybe one day, people will be able to be out as plural like that. Some people already can, and do, but I’m not one of them. Maybe someday I will be, when I’m in a better situation, but not today.
Being plural is something to be proud of. Being plural is not inherently disordered or bad or wrong or unhealthy or shameful, and even if you do experience plurality in a disordered way it’s still not wrong and it’s still not something to be ashamed of. My headmates have saved my life a hundred times over. They fill even the worst parts of my life with joy because they love me and I love them and nothing can take that away from us. To me, being plural is a beautiful, radical thing, and it’s okay if you don’t experience it that way, but you have to respect that this is how it is for me, and I’m never going to stop being proud about it. I’m never going to stop being proud about it even if I go my whole life keeping it a secret, even if I can never express it in public. I wouldn’t trade this way of existing for the world.

If you think singlets can have spiritual experiences and past lives, but individual members of a plural system cannot and there must be a "psychological explanation" instead, you're literally just being ableist. You're either implying individual system members don't have enough personhood for that, or that systems are incapable of having the agency for spiritual beliefs that significantly affect our lives.
Neither is a good look.

I've decided I'm going to headcanon every single character I come across that speaks to/argues with their own thoughts as plural now. Only exceptions are those whom are made excessively clear to not actually be speaking to an actual presence but their own self-doubt or whatever. If it's left up in the air, it's plural. I'm gonna hit them all with my pluralization beam
