Hey, no homo, but I am sitting on the broken swing set out back in the perfect, quiet, 2:00am blackness and picturing the softness of your voice and the darkness of your eyes with such perfect and terrible clarity that it feels like I'm choking on my own heartbeat.

I've been having a lot of feelings about what Buck's postcards meant to Maddie.
Before Daniel got sick, Maddie had a normal family. Her parents loved her and had no issues showing it. Then her brother died, and they emotionally abandoned her while expecting her to essentially raise a newborn. At a very early age, Maddie experienced love as extremely unstable. It could be there one day and gone the next. While we know less about the beginnings of her relationship with Doug, I would imagine there was a similar dynamic there. Doug was initially incredibly loving and sweet and then he would turn on a dime. But Maddie accepted that because that's what love was to her: enjoying it while it lasted but always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
But Buck kept sending those postcards for years after Maddie stopped responding, confirming over and over again to the first person in his life who loved him openly and unconditionally that he loved her back, and that he always would no matter what. I don't think Maddie believed she deserved that kind of love, but she kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and it never did.

Soulmate AU where Steve is born with his words just like everyone else but when he gets to the 21st century and he still hasn’t heard them he assumes they’re well dead. Until one day he hears them from someone he meets on a run and unlike most soulmate au’s where it’s a super happy thing, it sends him spiralling. Because does this mean he was always doomed to leave behind his life in the 40s and almost die trying to save New York? Always doomed to feel like he’s out of time, everything new and unfamiliar?
Of course, him and Sam work out great. It’s the world’s greatest love story, soulmates separated by time but the universe found a way. But the angst potential is fabulous.

It’s so sad that Marvel went bankrupt after TWS where in the after credits scene it’s Sam and Steve’s secret wedding at the tree they introduced themselves at. I really wonder what the MCU could have been after that. Oh well, too bad they couldn’t afford more funding to make more movies. Maybe Disney could have bought them out. Oh well. And it’s really too bad we didn’t get to see where that Bucky storyline went.
