"That means I can smash him to a pulp as often as I want, and he'll just keep coming back for more. I like this idea.” - Ares, The Last Olympian
Ares is the God or War and, possibly, anger issues.
If you’re looking for someone to get unreasonably mad at you over just about nothing, this is the guy to go looking for. While Ares is famously known as the God of War, something that’s often forgotten is that he’s only the god of the unpleasant bits of war. The raw violence, the carnage, the mindless mass murder. Honestly, its no wonder he’s no fun at parties. Throughout Greek mythology, he’d always been the least liked among the Gods, even more hated then Hades, and that dude literally reeks of death.
And from what I’ve heard, his kids aren’t all that nice either. With a dad like that, though, can you really blame them? When one of them asked their dad for a physical challenge, Ares told every one of them to find the biggest Cyclops they could track down and kill it. Maybe that doesn’t sound like that big of a deal to kids like Lee, the fourth year who just so happens to be the Counselor of the cabin, but kids come to camp as young as eight years old. That’s hardly a toothpick in the eyes of a giant Cyclops.
So yeah, that’s definitely pretty harsh. I wonder how he feels about all but one of his kids pretty much ignoring his challenge. And when Lee Ellis did try and attack a Cyclops, but ended up getting in a tousle with Manticore (way scarier), all Ares gave him was a measly dagger. Needless to say, the God of War isn’t getting any Father of the Year awards any time soon.
Come meet Ares and all the rest of the Gods at Children of Olympus!

All men must die. Well, at least the half godly ones.
That was why he was here. - The Minotaur, Children of Olympus
In Greek mythology, the Minotaur, was a creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man or, as described by Roman poet Ovid, a being "part man and part bull."
This beastie is not big on being domesticated. In Greek Mythology, the Minotaur was created via the unholy union between Queen Pasiphae of Krete and a bull. Not cute. Essentially, the poor thing was born with a thirst for violence, chaos, and, most of all, the blood of the children of the Gods. Its not his fault, really. It’s just in Asterion’s nature. Plus, he was bullied.
Don’t feel too bad for him, though, because now no one is bullying the Minotaur. This monster is big, bad, and itching for some cute little demigods to feast on. Like that one son of Athena, Woodrow Brown. The boy and his best friend, Emmerich, were minding their own business on their way into New York City from camp to buy a limited edition book Woodrow had his sights set on when the Minotaur caught their scent.
The Minotaur almost had Emmerich for dinner, and the son of Athena as a post-dinner snack, but he was distracted by the scent of a nearby son of Hades. Big three kids are just so much chewier. The son of Athena died, but what difference does just one less demigod make?
Luckily no other children have been claimed by the minotaur since, but with the camp barriers being weakened and new monsters breaking into camp every day, its really only a matter of time.
Come meet the Minotaur and all other kinds of monsters at Children of Olympus!

Jemma McCarthy • Fourteen • Second Year
Most children would be ecstatic to learn that they were so special as to be a demigod. Jemma, however, had mixed feelings about coming to Camp Half-Blood. She was already special, she didn't need a satyr to tell her that. As a child of Apollo, she has an exceptional singing voice, which was discovered at a young age. She experienced more success in music than most aspiring adults, landing two Broadway roles by the age of eleven, one the lead in Matilda. She lived for music and the stage, which gave her the confidence and self-esteem she had lacked as a young child. Being on Broadway meant everything to her and her last curtain call in Matilda was harder for her than anyone had anticipated. Jemma is a nice girl, but some might be put off by what can be interpreted as arrogance. Though she doesn't have a problem with authority figures, she does not take kindly to criticism from peers. Adjusting to camp, where she isn't special and doesn't particularly excel, has been difficult for her. While most campers are impressed when they find out she has been on Broadway, it's only passing information and no longer has the same influence in her life as it once did. After defining herself and assigning her self-worth based on her theater achievements, finding her place at camp has not been easy. There is still a part of her that doesn't want to accept how much her life has changed. She still wants to believe that if she just trains hard, she will be able to leave camp and resume her normal life as if nothing happened. Since coming to camp, Jemma has made a few friends, most notably Alexandra Wilson, a daughter of Iris. The two girls bonded over their love of musicals and Jemma has been teaching her friend to play piano. After Alexandra revealed that she had never been to New York, they decided that they would take a trip together. With this incentive, Jemma began training with renewed vigor, determined to have a successful trip to New York. However, these plans were interrupted when Jemma was chosen as the leader of a quest to save camp from its weakening borders. She hopes that the training she put in for the trip to New York will be enough to protect her on the quest and that she'll be successful. Working in the infirmary, she has seen first hand what can happen to campers during quests, so does not take the responsibility lightly. Jemma can typically be found in the amphitheater, practicing singing and piano (often both at the same time). Most recently, she has been spending more and more time in the arena, getting ready for New York.

Jason Daniel “JD” Williams • Seventeen • Third Year
Jason Daniel Williams - or JD, as he is affectionately known by - is a happy-go-lucky sort of guy.  No matter who you are, he wants to be your best friend in the whole wide world (and he'll give you a lasting nickname that you may or may not hate).  At seventeen, he's basically just a big kid.  Give him sweets, nap time, and playtime, and he's content.  Despite how he grew up, he has managed to maintain an optimism that borders on naive innocence. Growing up wasn't exactly easy for the son of Hecate.  Like all demigods, his biological mother dropped him off at his father's house after he was born.  However, his father never knew about him as his grandmother, assuming it was a ploy to get to the family's money, immediately dropped him off with social services.  He spent the next fourteen years being bounced around from foster home to foster home before being attacked by a monster, but that never brought him down.  His then best friend - who was a satyr, if you can believe that - saved him and sent him off to Camp Half-Blood where he was promptly claimed by the goddess of magic.  No, not goddess.  Titan, which he says makes him and his half-siblings extra special. Somehow, JD managed to find more trouble in camp than he ever did before learning about the demigod thing.  He has a recklessness about him that is closer to stupidity than the bravery he claims, which has gotten him into a few tricky spots since coming to camp.  No matter how much his best camp friend nagged, he never really put much effort into training, which came to bite him in the butt.  His main goal at camp was for everyone to love him, probably since he never had much affection as a kid.  He wanted fame and fortune and to be a real hero.  If you ask some campers, that happened when he was chosen for a quest.  If you ask him, he's the worst hero in the history of all of Greece.  He almost got himself and his friends killed (a couple different times) as they found Cerberus and returned the three-headed dog to Hades.  Almost every time he tries to do something with the magic skills he inherited from Mama Hecate, BOOM!  Explosions!  At least he wasn't the one to knock a rock off the top of the Hecate cabin...yet.  He's not ruling shoving one off since wants to see what really happens if that were to occur.  He heard about everyone in camp singing the last time one fell and broke, but he didn't see it so it might as well not have happened.  Obviously, he has to help out in that, right? So come and join JD at Camp Half-Blood, and he'll be your new best friend.  Either that, or he'll manage to land you into some hot water, but that's half the fun, isn't it?  Besides, if you don't love him, at least he has an awesome puppy for a familiar that you can play with while fighting off the migraine his exuberance and craziness may cause.
