the scariest thing to me about trump supporters is the obsession with Donald Trump and the cognitive dissonance required to support him.

“He has christian values” when there is no record of him ever going to church, he has been married multiple times, he has been convicted of sexual assault in civil courts

“He will protect the border” his wall plan was unsuccessful. He makes racist claims that there are criminals, felons, and rapists, coming over the border when he is a convicted felon and a convicted rapist.

“He protects the sanctity of life” meaning he is pro-life, when in reality, he is a convicted rapist that got lucky that he didn’t impregnate the woman.

“He cares about America” He incited an insurrection. When I talk to trump supporters, they still believe the 2020 election was stolen, even though the 2020 election was the most secure election on record.

They go on and on about how he is much better than Kamala Harris, when in reality, he is a criminal that has mastered the art of manipulation and keeps you stuck denying genuine facts.

His supporters are so trapped in his net that they accept Fox News as the only source of valuable information, that Donald Trump is a godly man, and that Donald Trump (despite members of his cabinet voting against him in this election because they are worried he wants to be A DICTATOR) is the only person who can save America.

I am terrified of Election 2024, and if you are too, you must vote blue.

Donald Trump is a failed businessman. He has 6 bankruptcies- Trump Taj Mahal (1991), Trump Plaza and Casino (1992), Plaza Hotel (2006), Trump Castle Hotel and Casino (1992), Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts (2004), and Trump Entertainment Resorts (2006).

Donald Trump has plenty of other failed business ventures. Trump Shuttle Inc, launched in 1989 and defaulted on its loans in 1990 and ceased to exist by 1992. Trump University, founded in 2005, faced multiple lawsuits and investigations and ultimately ceased operations in 2011. Trump Vodka was introduced in 2005 but closed by 2011. Other failed ventures include Trump Mortgage, LLC, (started in 2006, ended in 2007), GoTrump.com (started in 2006, ended in 2007), and Trump Steaks- which discontinued sales only two months after it’s launch.

If you’re worried about the economy- we are currently under Trump’s Tax Code- passed in 2017 and is to be discontinued in 2025. His tax breaks for the upper 1% have failed to produce the promised outcomes- and instead have resulted in extreme economic hardship for the low and middle class, while the extremely wealthy have only gotten richer.

I am genuinely curious- what then, is the appeal of Donald Trump? What has he actually done that has made American’s lives better?

Kamala Harris has described actual policy changes- like expanding the child tax credit program, making legislation to end price gouging, and offering funding for first time home buyers. Donald Trump’s “business man” approach and failed tax code have done nothing but hurt the middle class and expand the national debt.

Why do you continue to defend him when your sole purpose of voting for him is the economy- that he has clearly failed at fixing?

as a teacher- the biggest tragedy in America is that kids go to school hungry and then have to practice school shooting drills.

If you are okay with this reality- fine.

If you are not- vote blue.

When liberals talk about free lunch and republicans talk about vouchers- in order to really understand what they’re talking about- you have to understand how schools are funded.

Schools are funded by state, local and federal funds. On average, 13.6% of funding comes from federal (national) funding- straight from the US Government. 3.26% of funding comes from state government sources. 42.7% comes from local government- your city, your town, your county.

However, this varies by state. In Colorado, 93% of funding for schools comes from local sources, 2% of funding is from the state, and 5% comes from the federal government.

At the federal level- money is given for specific programs such as the Federal Free Lunch Program (this program only covers students with families under a certain income) or programs for students with disabilities.

State funding is where things start to get messy. A lot of education funding comes from the general fund. This is a fund allocated for education in the state- but isn’t specifically allocated to specific programs or goals.

Some states use this money wisely. Others use this funding for different purposes- ones not related to schools at all. Some states save it and don’t use any of it.

Local governments also have an education general fund that goes to “education” but it’s up to district governments to decide what that looks like. Some school districts pay a lot of money for field trips and excursions- some school districts have to use their funding to fix old pipes or replace outdated textbooks or finally hire that music teacher. Some school districts provide “vouchers” so students who attend private school can apply their cost-per-pupil to their private school- instead of the public school districts.

This is why students in Beverly Hills receive a very different education than their counterparts in Tucson. This is why people want to move to places with “good schools”- they have the best schools because they have the highest property taxes- meaning the best school funding.

Whether this is for the benefit or the detriment of the students is up to you- but in order to make lasting and sustainable changes in education we need to be aware of how education is funded.

I’m a teacher and I spent so much of my own money paying for students’ lunches.

The government already pays for some students’ free lunch- but not all.

Half of my students were on federal free lunch- but the other half were not. The students knew instantly who was poor and who wasn’t -some students needed free lunch but didn’t qualify. So, in an effort to help I gave some students my lunch number.

No child should be in “lunch debt.”

No child should go hungry because they don’t have lunch money.

I promise you- starving kids hurts educational outcomes far more than books about gay penguins.
