Productivity is a strange word. It has the connotation of manufacturing; that our purpose is to produce. It's easy to think that way, since so much of our lives are spent working for others.

Never let it end there though. Always seek to live for yourself. It sounds so selfish it's almost wrong. That's the point.

No matter what meaning you find in life, it's wasted as soon as you start living for others. I don't mean loving or caring for people; we absolutely do need friends. I mean not being yourself, not doing what you want to do, not respecting yourself enough to be different.

So absolutely be productive. Produce more joy in this world, live authentically and unapologetically, and the world will be better precisely because you're in it, living for yourself.

Hot tip that, legally speaking, absolutely did not come from my mother (who was, and still is, an activist starting in the early 80s and continuing till now): if you fill one of those thin glass Christmas ornaments with paint, it makes an excelent projectile that you can really whip with a lot of speed and distance, say, out of the passenger window of the car, and it will explode on contact covering whatever flat surface it hits with paint. On an unrelated note, there are a lot of anti-abortion billboards covered in misinformation, manupulative language, and straight up lies all over the U.S. right now.
