Oh don't worry! I will be continuing soon, my breaks never last long! I just need a little time to deal with stress! Thanks for the support!!
I will be putting the story on hold for a little while. I am currently dealing with a lot of stuff and will return to this fic when I have the time and energy.
Please respond to this if you’re enjoying the story.
I would like to know everyone’s favourite scene if I can? I’ve been wondering.

The Tubbo Administration
9
A week went by, hauntingly quiet. No one had seen Tommy since Fundy had been imprisoned, there were rumours going round about what had happened. None of them ever asked Tubbo, the poor kid looked so stressed, in fact he was more than stressed; Tubbo was paranoid. He knew there were people that hated him, he knew there were people that would hate him if they knew the truth- and he knew some would want him dead.
He’d never much thought of death before, but it took Eret aback when Tubbo asked him about it- for a kid that’s been in wars, Eret had assumed Tubbo would understand death- or at least see it eye to eye. He had to sit down with his prince, explaining everything he knew about death, Tubbo was lucky he’d gone to Eret, because Eret knew better then most. They had lunch together and Eret noted how calm and careful everything Tubbo did had become, he always used to be reckless, never loud but always carried an air of chaos that no one could replicate. Eret knew it was stupid, but he found himself mourning Tubbo’s lost childlike wonder- Tubo’s lost childhood.
Rumours began to surface that Dream had been meeting with the outlaws at Pogtopia, Tubbo couldn’t do anything to stop this however, Dream wasn't a citizen. What he could do however, wascut all visits to the prison, and ban Nightmare from entering his nation. Effectively cutting Dream off from any reason the man could have for entering. He’d been told this was dramatic and a little paranoid but he didn’t listen- how dare they question their prince.
The guards had been denied entry into the prince’s tower, not even to bring food to the prisoner. Tubbo brought Tommy food himself, attempting to talk to his friend as he did. Tommy was quiet, never really talking to Tubbo- Tubbo didn’t mind, it was nice to be the loud one for once. He’d taken to telling Tommy about his day, and his theories on who would betray him next. It hurt Tommy to hear how paranoid his friend had become, he blamed himself in some regard. But he also saw how tubbo had quickly spiraled out of control, he’d lost his mind and Tommy didn’t have the tools to help him findit. As much as he wanted to help his friend, he didn’t know how- he wished he could talk to his father at times like this, his father would know what to do.
Techno had once again been spotted around the borders of L’manburg, looking over the country. It caused a lot of whispers and wonder- Tubbo had tried to settle everyone's worries, telling them that it was ok, Techno had more honour than to hurt innocents. No one wanted to remind him of Techno’s anarchist stance, that Tubbo himself was no innocent or that the piglin had no such moral code.
Niki outright asked him at one of these announcements, she asked him where Tommy was. Tubbo went quiet, sighing and taking a deep breath before speaking into the microphone. “Tommy had uh...a little bit of a- breakdown.” He paused, sighing. “I’d hate to say I was wrong- trusting my best friend...but I have no other way of explaining what happened.”
“The scream…” Sam thought aloud, causing people to look to him and then to Tubbo when the princeling nodded.
“It was mine, yes. I’m sorry if i woke any of you up.”
There were many reassurances that it was ok, everyone understood, no one blamed Tubbo. But the silent thought hung heavy in the air, that everyone was on their last nerve. People were already breaking down; if Tommy could attack his best friend then what could others be capable of? The citizens all made plans to defend themselves against each other, to defend L’manburg against L’manburg. Few considered the outside forces, few were ready for Pogtopia.
Tubbo was, he’d spent hours explaining every weakness and vulnerability he knew they had to his guards, he’d spent countless hours training his fighting and going over defensive strategies. He was told that it was unlikely for Pogtopia to attack a child. But he ignored them, they didn’t realise that he wasn’t worried for himself, he was worried for L’manburg, his L’manburg. Schlatt sought to abuse the cabinet, Wilbur sought to ruin it once again- making it his little drug wonderland again, and Techno just wanted anarchy. Tubbo refused to lay down and let those stupid horrible adult take his land away from him, he was young sure- but it was common knowledge that the youth held the power. He could see the world in a whole different perspective- a view he shared with Tommy, poor Tommy, he was too loyal to Wilbur to see the danger right in front of him.
Tubbo had tried to explain his philosophy to Tommy, he wasn’t sure if the other boy ever even listened to a word he’d said. He really hoped he had, he’d hate for Tommy to fall on the wrong side of history. Tubbo might be merciful but the history books wouldn’t.
The citizens knew that Tubbo was outright lying to them now, they saw him training directly after he looked them in the eye and told them there’s no cause for alarm. Most of them began to feel uncomfortable with this- did he want them to be defenseless? Surely not- he probably just didn’t want to cause mass panic. It just so happened the child was panicking himself, how odd.
Paranoia hung over L’manburg in a dark cloud, infecting every citizen and corrupting their logical thinking. But for some it gave them the insight they needed to see things from a different angle, see Tubbo from a different angle. Some of the citizens began to see Tubbo for what he was, a malevolent force hell-bent on controlling L’manburg for his own amusement, and they’d given him that control, now as the threat of war appeared on the borders in the form of the local anarchist- he sought to leave them complacent.

Letters from the dictator
8
"You didn't have to imprison him…"
Tubbo glanced over at Tommy, sighing. "I had to, he's a risk."
"He's your friend."
"He hurt me."
Tommy sighed, Tubbo knew he was torn, he wished Tommy was fully on his side.
"I know he hurt you, but we did accidentally make his kid ill...maybe you could've been a little bit more understanding?"
"Never. It's all political here, he's Wilburs son, he's Dream's fiancé, he's an animal. He's so easy to use as a political tool." He sighs. "I know you've never understood politics, it's not your strong suit. But it's ok, that's my-"
Tommy cut him off, looks furious. "A tool?? Fundy isn't a TOOL!! He's a person, just like you or me! He deserves respect!" He pauses, getting to his feet slowly. Tubbo was taken aback by this, why was his friend behaving like this? Why was Tommy so angry? "Tubbo I don't know what you think you're doing, but you need to stop. You're crossing so many lines right now."
"Please don't speak to me like that, sit down Tommy." Tubbo barely blinked. He understood his place in society, he knew Tommy shouldn't be speaking down to him like this. Tommy could easily be used as a weapon, he's lucky Tubbo cares.
"I'll speak to you however the hell I want!" Tommy paces the room. "You're my goddamn best friend Tubbo!! I don't like seeing you like this!! What the hell is wrong with you!?! Just act like a normal fucking child!!!"
Tubbo felt a pang of pain in his chest, tears threatened to show themselves in his eyes. He couldn't meet Tommy's eyes. "Because we're not normal children Tommy...think about it. What children are thrown into an active warzone? What children are expected to know the ins and outs of law and politics at SIXTEEN??" Tears spill down the sides of his face as he stands, facing his best friend. Fury burns his core as he stares into the eyes that won't meet his. "We've never been normal children Tommy! Wake up! We've been weapons and tools this whole time!! We deserve our turn!"
Tommy just heads to the door, Tubbo can see his hands shake but overlooks it, stepping forward to grab his friend and right hand man's arm. "Look at me Tommy!"
Tommy flings his arm back, throwing Tubbo back a few steps. "LET GO OF ME!"
Tubbo steps back, holding his own wrist nervously. "What…? Tommy…"
Tommy is glaring at him, standing to his full height, almost a foot taller than the prince. His fists are balled and Tubbo feels a spark of something he never thought Tommy would cause- he felt fear. "You really do disgust me, you know that Tubbo? You're not who you used to be. You're SICK! You are sick Tubbo! And you know something? Even SCHLATT was better than you! At least Schlatt never fucking did anything!!"
Tubbo takes a step back, raising his hands slowly, feeling his breath quicken as his eyes darted to Tommy's hand, a hand that sat on the handle of his sword. "T-Tom-..."
"SHUT UP!!" The younger teen roared, unsheathing his sword. "YOU NEVER LISTEN!! YOU'RE ALWAYS OFF IN YOUR OWN WORLD! I JUST WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE DOING!! THIS ISN'T A FUCKING GAME!!!"
He swung his sword at Tubbo, luckily the princeling managed to dodge, Tommy only got his arm. Tubbo fell back into his ass and stared up at Tommy with wide, terrified eyes. He took a deep breath and screamed, tears rolling down his face as he let out a noise of pure pain and terror.
He's got his eyes shut tight but he can hear the sword hitting the floor. He can hear the guards running in, restraining Tommy. He also heard Quackity enter, asking what happened. He doesn't get any verbal answer and Tubbo quickly finds the man tapping him gently on the shoulder. "Tubbo? Hey buddy, what's wrong?"
Tubbo opened his eyes and sniffled, running the tears from his eyes. "I- he- Tommy just- T-..." He burst out sobbing again, letting Quackity pull him into a hug. He speaks with the guards, none of them can figure out what happened.
It takes Tubbo a painful three minutes to calm down enough to keep a level head, he stands, still leaning into Quackity a little. The guards look to him for orders and Quackity quietly comforts him. "It's ok, you don't need to decide right now...but what do you want them to do with him?"
Tubbo took a deep breath, refusing to look Tommy in the eyes, refusing to look anyone in the eyes. "There is a prison cell in my tower, on the other side, opposite my room. Throw away the key, I have the spare."
The guards dragged Tommy away. Tubbo didn't follow their movements, he turned to look at Quackity. He began to speak but was interrupted by being pulled into a tight hug.
"Schlatt would be so proud of you, you know? You're such a good ruler, you're doing so well."
Tubbo felt a pang of pain, Quackity was so nice, but he didn't know that Schlatt hadn't betrayed them, Tubbo had. Quackity still thought his ex-fiancé had thrown the nation away for his friendship with Wilbur. He briefly considered telling him what he'd done, but realised that Quackity was near enough the only person left that cared about him. He wasn't ready to lose that.
He just relaxed in the positive affirmations. It had been so long since he'd had an adult give him praise and attention like this, he felt smaller, he felt safe. He leaned into Quackity and just let him reassure him that everything would be good and fine and ok.
He didn't know how he'd gotten to bed, it was all a bit fuzzy, he remembered sitting and having some tea and pizza with Quackity, talking about law and things like that. He remembered a late night walk with him, just silently enjoying the open air and- oh yes, he'd been tucked in. It had been so long since he'd been treated like a child he'd almost forgotten what it was like. It was nice…
In his dreams he was smaller, it was raining. He looked around and realised this was where he'd been found, he lay, curled up in the little cardboard box that had been his bed. It was raining but that wasn't too big of an issue, Tubbo was used to that.
He heard noises and looked up, he was a young child in a beanie, he looked a lot older than Tubbo, around twelve? Maybe fourteen. He seemed to look concerned, calling his dad over to come look at this baby in a box.
He remembers the confused looks he was given, and he remembers crying as he was picked up by this strange man. His hands were calloused and warm, Tubbo wasn't used to this. He suddenly felt every issue he had. He was cold, he was starving, he was filthy, he was tired.
"Hey there little buddy." He heard the man speak, caring and gentle in tone, it quieted Tubbo's little baby cries for a moment. "God you're a tiny one aren't you? When was the last time you had any nutrients?"
He remembers looking up at the man, those kind, kind eyes, that soft smile. "Techno? Can you go grab Tommy's bottle for me? This kid needs some milk."
"It's on the warmer?"
"I don't care, hand it here."
He remembers how these folks had found him and cared about him, he remembers a few years later when Wilbur took him and Tommy into this new place, and told them to go to war. That command had been the start to all of this.
Tubbo had never really had any adult supervision in reality, he wondered if that was the reason for why he was the way he was...

What happens in the base...
8
Word had travelled fast this time, and now Wilbur was pacing the floor, looking increasingly stressed out. “It’s gotta be, right?”
Techno shrugged, Wilbur had come to the conclusion that Tubbo was at fault for everything wrong with the world lately, Techno thought he was being a little dramatic but didn’t really care. What was it to him if he let a tyrant fall through negligence? An orphan tyrant no less.
Schlatt was sad, Schlatt was always sad these days. Wilbur had finally gotten him to agree they would fight against Tubbo with violence if needed, Schlatt really didn't want to hurt the kid, he'd seen Tubbo as a son. Even after he'd been betrayed he still cared about the small dictator.
Wilbur had had enough, Tubbo had hurt his friends, he'd hurt Tommy. The brat had even hurt Fundy. Wilbur couldn't take it anymore, especially since he found out he was a grandfather, by Sam telling him that Fundy's daughter had taken ill. That it was likely Tubbo's fault.
Schlatt had never heard such violence be sworn to be done on a child before, it almost scared him. Tubbo might be a lying treacherous snake but he was still a child, did he really deserve this? He didn't object though, just helped Wilbur and Techno gather weapons and resources, they were going on the offensive.
Wilbur had spent hours, countless nights going over battle strategies, they had to take the child by surprise. He refused to let this tiny tyrant hurt anyone else he cared about, Fundy and Fundy's child had been the straw that broke the camel's back. This child was irredeemable and pure evil, Wilbur would be his express ticket to hell.
Techno didn't really care about disposing of a child, especially not a governmental orphan. His only worry was with Tommy, surely their brother would have some sort of objection to them killing his best friend- his only friend. Techno knew what it was like to be alone, to be the outcast, he didn't want Tommy to feel that. But Tommy would be so much happier in an anarchist society than one of this dictator's designs.
The trio didn't argue, although they all had different stances on the matter, all they cared about these days was reclaiming L'manburg, their L'manburg. Techno wanted his anarchy and he'd been promised it, Schlatt didn't even want power anymore, he just wanted peace, and Wilbur- Wilbur wanted his country, his son, his baby brother, his granddaughter. He wanted his life back.
They found themselves an ally in Dream, the man hated this evil toddler as much as they did, they came to an agreement that would bring the tyrant to his knees. It came as a surprise to them that Dream was willing to help them, but it seemed like he'd had enough of having his fiancé hurt and locked up, which was fair.
He'd brought Nightmare with him, Wilbur had cried at the sight of his tiny fluffy granddaughter. Dream handed her to him and he cradled her, Wilbur stroked her soft little head and rocked her in his arms. "She's so cute...I can't believe she's just...here…"
Dream chuckles and nods. "Exactly, and she's who we're doing it for, we can't have her grow up in a world like this, she deserves better."
Techno nods solemnly. "Anarchy."
"No...not anarchy, just a leader that isn't a goddamn child tyrant."
Wilbur sighs "Dream, I've been thinking… what if we had L'manburg ruled by...more than one person, a council of sorts?"
Dream nodded slowly. "That makes sense, no one person more in power then another, everything would come down to a vote?"
Wilbur nods. "Yes! This would never happen like that!"
Dream smiles and nods. "Alright, when we dethrone this brat we can install this new form of government."
They begin to plan a battle, arranging a safe place for Nightmare to hide, a route to safety just in case, planning their weapons, planning their strategy. They knew they had to be careful, this child was quickly proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with. They had no idea what tricks he had up his sleeve.
While he was there, Dream pulled Wilbur aside from the group. "I need to talk to you."
Wilbur raises an eyebrow. "What is it?"
The green man took a deep breath. "I know you're a traditional man, and I understand you were probably a little worried to hear of Nightmare's birth…"
Dream had paused, trying to read the expression on Wilburs face, the man looked to be thinking it over before nodding. "Well I was a little concerned, but mostly worried that Fundy hadn't told me."
Dream nods slowly. "He would've struggled to get here." He pauses as Wilbur nods before continuing. "That brings me to my next point, I'm sure you know he proposed to me quite a while ago. And in order to respect your authority and prove I'm serious about him... I'd like to ask your blessing?"
Wilbur was taken aback, he'd never expect this level of respect, let alone from Dream. He smiled and held out his hand to his previous enemy. "As long as you take care of him, I have no issue with you."
Dream shook his hand, smiling. "Glad we can come to an agreement."
Schlatt was silently sitting next to Techno, the pig was planning out the safe escape routes. He slowly picked up a pen and drew a small one, from the centre of the palace to no man's land. Techno glanced at him. "Who's going to be able to use that?"
"They're going to kill him Techno, he's just a boy…"
Techno sighed and nods. "They won't kill him, I know they say that but they're too morally bound. Wilbur was the one to find Tubbo after all, he's like an unofficial brother to the guy. I never had such attachments but I know wilbur, and I know Tubbo won't be killed. He'll be captured, sure, hurt almost definitely. But they won't kill him. Even if just for Tommy's sake."
Schlatt looked at his face, couldn't read a single hint of deception. He smiles softly. "I wonder...can we save him? He's just a boy, he doesn't understand...he needs love."

His L'manburg
8
Once again in prison, Fundy sat in the cell. The collar around his neck was tighter, he knew maybe he was a little in the wrong, but he was protecting his baby- she’d been poisoned! He felt mostly guilt for being disappointed in Dream then turning around and doing practically the same thing, and it was worse- Fundy had meant to do that. He just hoped the prince wouldn’t hold Nightmare accountable.
He was chained closer to the wall then before, they’d even forced him into a muzzle- he hated it. It didn't help that he couldn’t stop thinking about how Wilbur was probably in Pogtopia bonding with Techno and Schlatt- not a care in the world.
The cell was cold, but fundy didn’t mind, it was calming in a strange way. He wished he was free but at least he was alone, being here did bring back an aching pain to his bones- he remembers that night vividly… and Tubbo called him an animal.
On the other hand, Niki was sitting in the bakery, talking to Dream as the green man tried to settle Nightmare down. "Have you tried warming the milk?"
Dream shook his head. "No, why would we do that?"
She chuckled and grabbed the bottle, going to lightly heat it up. "Babies tend to rest easier with warm milk." She found it funny how he didn't seem to know this, men huh.
"Huh...weird.” Dream rocked Nightmare in his arms, trying to hush the fussy little babe. When Niki came over with the milk, he fed Nightmare carefully, surprised by how easily she took to it. “It worked??”
She chuckled at that. “So much for that 100 IQ hm Dream?” She dodges a swipe at her and smiles softly. “Really though, if you ever need help with her you can always ask me.”
Dream nodded and Nightmare squeaked, she clearly didn’t understand what was going on and wanted more attention. She got the attention she wanted, as Dream proceeded to tuck her into the cradle he’d brought. “Are you sure you don’t mind her staying here?”
Niki nodded, of course she didn’t- she might not like Dream all that much but he was still engaged to Fundy at the end of the day, and Nightmare was adorable too. She fixed herself and Dream a drink before getting ready for bed.
She lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering about how Fundy was faring, the poor fox had spent more time in prison than out by now. That had to be bad for his mental health. She felt a pang of guilt but didn't know why, she didn't think there was anything she could've done to help him and if there was she wasn't even present at the time.
The next thing she knew, she was standing in a court, she was the defence it seemed. Fundy was stood accused, of what crime Niki didn't know. The judge didn't say words, just glared with bright eyes through the shadows of this dark court.
The prosecutor stepped forward, a spotlight suddenly on him. It was Tubbo, he stood there in a suit, bottle green and shimmering. His cold eyes stared her down as he pointed towards Fundy, the fox's eyes going wide as the tyrant spoke the words. "Animal."
His voice echoed around the courthouse, slowly being repeated by the jury in shadows, all growing louder as Niki came to the horrible realisation that they were all Tubbo. She span slowly, the word ringing in her ears as she turns to see Fundy staring up at the judge.
The judge, who for some reason is dressed as death- with a gavel in place of sythe- speaks up, a deep booming voice echoing around the courthouse and shutting every tyrant up.
"Guilty."
Niki gasped verbally, looking as Fundy let out a yelp of pure terror, being grabbed and dragged away, a collar snapped around his neck roughly and rusted chains wrapped around him, causing him to squeak and yelp and cry out.
She tried to rush and save him but got pulled back, the jury slowly repeating the word: treason. They said it over and over and over again, slowly getting louder, echoing and thundering in her ears. She began to cry and scream as nails dug into her arms and the room suddenly felt burning hot, like the pits of hell or the nether.
She opens her eyes, she doesn't remember when she shut them. She sees the jury, each and every citizen of L'manburg, eyes bright white and glowing. There's no judge now, just the prince stood there with a sweet smile. She looks around, she's outside, what is this? A witch trial?
The prince slowly speaks, his voice hollow and echoing.
"Niki Nichachu, consorting with a beast, aiding the outlaws. I'm surprised at you, I thought you'd be smarter then to get caught."
More whispers, and Niki feels like sinking into the soft cool dirt below her. His eyes are like blue fire, the hottest flame. He can see her soul, and wants nothing more then cause her pain. The eyes behind him seem more sympathetic, but they believe every word he says, she doesn't understand why. Surely they're just as scared as she is?
She wakes up to crying, she rubs her eyes and gets out of bed. She picks Nightmare up and rocks her gently, humming to her softly. She smiles gently down at the baby, she hoped she would never have to face this kind of tyranny when she was older, she hoped Nightmare would be a safe and happy child. She knew better then to expect it.
It was never like her to give up without a fight, but she wasn't a bad person, she didn't want to hurt Tubbo- she just wanted him to stop hurting her friends. She hoped it wouldn't come to using force but she feared that it may come to that. She wondered if Tubbo had considered that, what plans did he have to deal with that? Was he scared?
The thought came to her like she'd walked face first into it; Tubbo was a child still, he probably had no idea how to keep power- what if this wasn't him being outwardly cruel...but a panicked response by a child who didn't know any better? He'd worked under Schlatt after all, it wasn't too far of a stretch to suggest he'd picked up a few ideas and mannerisms, children mirrored people a lot after all, doing anything to seem mature.
If this really was just him panicking- he had seemed really guilty after he'd hurt Fundy after all- then maybe they could just sit him down, have an intervention, maybe he wasn't too far gone. Maybe the child they all loved wasn't fully gone.
She sat there, holding the sleeping baby, as guilt crept into her spine at the thought that Tubbo was still just a scared and panicked child. That she and Fundy had just been tormenting his best efforts to be a good ruler.
The prison system wasn't too bad in reality, maybe she shouldn't have refused to farm...all she'd wanted was to stick it to Schlatt in all honesty. The kid was just doing his job, he'd even had the courtesy to warn her about the sentence for helping the exiled.
She was suddenly rethinking everything she knew about Tubbo...

The Tubbo Administration
8
As expected, Tommy had confronted Dream about trying to hurt Tubbo. It had taken Dream a whole half hour to talk Tommy down, especially when George confirmed that he’d made Dream promise to not do just that. Tommy had really been on the warpath as soon as he'd found out what had happened, he was still furious with Dream even after being talked out of fighting him. The entire population was a little angry at Dream for this- Tubbo was a child after all. Even Fundy had stated that as much as he disliked Tubbo’s rule- he didn’t want the kid to be hurt.
Speaking of Fundy, the fox had healed rather quickly, walking around after only a week. He could often be seen going for walks with his young daughter around the edges of the country, she loved all the pretty colours and animals. Fundy did have to stop her from eating the bees, he figured the prince would be a little angry at that and didn't want to invoke anymore wrath- especially not to his baby. He wanted to be a much better father than Wilbur had been to him, he was going to give Nightmare lots of love and attention. She was going to grow up with both parents, and the knowledge that they loved her.
He was very proud of her, her ears had grown a lot and so had her tail, she was unmistakably his child now, even her patterning was his but black instead of orange. Her little ear tufts were orange, Fundy blamed whatever strange biology fox dna did when mixed with whatever the hell Dream is. He did feel a little bit of shame, not even knowing what species his own fiance was.
Tubbo was revelling in how worried Tommy had gotten, it didn’t show it much but Tubbo could see straight through him, the guy had been terrified for Tubbo’s safety. He seemed very happy to see how much Tommy cared, almost as if he’d had doubts.
But this recent event had spurred tighter security for L’manburg, Tubbo had the citizens taxed for all their armour and weapons, redistributing it but keeping all the best gear for himself and his guards. He’d even taken the tiny netherite sword from Nightmare, even in spite of Fundy’s argument that she wasn’t even a citizen. Dream had given Nightmare that sword, she deserved the best and Fundy agreed, she might be harmless but she deserves to defend herself. In the face of the small fox’s rage, Tubbo turned and sighed. “Fundy, you are an animal, and Dream is a threat no matter how you look at it- do you really think your child won’t be twice the danger?”
“She’s a baby! She wouldn’t hurt a fly!”
George had to motion for Fundy to take a step back, he was too close to the prince to be acting so aggressively. When he sighed, glancing down he saw Nightmare herself sat at his feet, looking up at her ‘uncle’. Her big shiny black eyes reflected the light from his sword, he noticed the pacifier she had bore the original L'manburg flag…Fundy wanted her to feel that kind of pride. He smiled softly, ruffling the tuft of fur on her head. “Hi Nightie…”
She squeaked happily in response to that, getting Tubbo’s attention without realising. The princeling took a few steps towards the kit, everyone was suddenly on high alert as he picked the tiny fluffy creature up. He smiles softly at her, clearly finding the baby cute, she squeaks curiously at him, having never interacted with someone who wasn't an adult before now. He turns to Fundy, smiling softly. “Maybe so, but I wouldn’t take that risk…” He pauses. “But maybe we should test it, I’ll let her stay in the palace for the night and see if she truly is as harmless as you say.”
Everyone pauses and looks around, worried and confused, they didn't understand what he meant and they were scared to ask. It slowly dawns on Fundy what Tubbo meants and he lets out a sigh, feeling just a little more comforted- at least Tubbo doesn't want to hurt her. “If you wanted to babysit you could’ve just asked.”
Tubbo rolls his eyes and huffs. “You can check on her in the evening, go enjoy some free time with your fiance.” He turns on heel and hands Nightmare to George, who glanced back at Fundy in sympathy before they headed back to the palace.
George felt really bad about leaving Nightmare with the two teens, that was still his best friend's kid after all. Tommy assures him that he knows how to take care of a baby, his dad had taught him. George understood but still felt the sinking feeling that if anything happened to her it would be his fault.
No one but the four that where there knew what had happened next- all anyone could gather was that for some reason, fundy had gone feral. Tommy claimed that there’d been an honest mistake and Fundy was out of line, Tubbo was adamant that Fundy attacked him because of being a feral fox, Fundy’s side hadn’t gotten out as he’d been imprisoned once again, and Nightmare couldn’t yet speak, but she seemed to be slightly ill.
Niki had been the one to watch Nightmare until Dream could arrive, she told Dream she didn't know what had happened, only that Fundy had attacked Tubbo after Tubbo had babysat Nightmare. Dream was enraged to learn that the tiny tyrant had been allowed alone with Nightmare, he believed whatever reason Fundy had to attack, that Tubbo had deserved it. He took Nightmare home and tended to her, she was ill, it seemed to Dream that she'd been given something she shouldn't have.
It was a beautiful night, the sky was littered with those beautiful sparkly stars, not a phantom in sight. A soft breeze drifted over the land, swaying the flowers and small bushels. It was a crescent moon, big and bright- soaking the nation in it's cool, loving light. It was the kind of night where the smallest sound could carry miles, and it did.
Because that night, yelling could be heard from the palace, followed by a scream. The scream was unmistakably their Prince's, but it wasn't the same as the ones they'd heard before, this scream was grief and fear and pain- not just fear. The country's prince had been greatly upset and scared by something…
And not everyone could say this upset them.

Letters from the Dictator
7
Tubbo was just sitting at his desk, doing some paperwork and playing with a little wooden toy Eret had given him, it was a little cube with buttons and twisty things on it, he found it really relaxing and distracting. He was just going over some tax reports- it had been his idea to implement well documented taxes, Schlatt had been willing to settle for bread. He wasn’t expecting any visitors to his office- even Tommy was taking the day to help with building. So when the door swung open, it wasn’t a surprise that Tubbo was surprised.
Dream stood there, sword unsheathed and a stance that made it all too obvious how he was feeling. Tubbo put his paperwork aside and smiled up at the green man. “Well hi there Dream, did you want something?”
The man stepped forward, putting his foot on the chair- not the traditional use for a chair. He stabbed the tip of his sword into the desk, making Tubbo squeak. “I want to talk.”
Tubbo panicked slightly. “Oh! oh please don’t do that! You can’t bring swords into my office, I only have one guard working today.” He really didn’t want to have to deal with an angry Dream, he might be a powerful kid but Dream is literally legendary…
Dream sighs, tossing his sword aside. “I’m not going to harm you Tubbo, you’re just a kid.” Tubbo breathes a sigh of relief as Dream sits down, he’d rather not have to wipe his own guts off the ceiling. “But we do really need to talk.”
Tubbo was confused, he couldn’t think of a single reason Dream would want to talk to little old him, probably just something to do with L’manburg. He moves the papers from his desk, hiding the toy in a drawer and putting his hands on the desk neatly. “Of course, no problem Dream!” Dream was going to get what he needed, Tubbo would make sure of it- he needed this warrior on his side. “I didn’t have any meetings scheduled but I'm sure I can make time for you, what is it you need?”
“We need to talk about Fundy.”
Tubbo eyes went wide- oh god oh fuck. “Oh that was awful, I hope he’s doing alright, such a stran-”
“I know you did it.”
Shit.
Tubbo suddenly felt less confident, he wasn’t sure where he was supposed to go from there...how could he get out of here with his perfect angelic image intact? He figures the only thing he really can do is be honest.
He sighed, running a head through his hair and looking Dream in the eyes...well where he assumed Dream's eyes were under the mask- it was always hard to speak to Dream. "I'm...I'm sorry Dream…" He knew Dream was taken aback by this, maybe Dream hadn't expected an apology? "It was...an accident, I never meant to break his rib…" This was true, Tubbo didn't mean to cause any harm, he was just stressed and looking for mindless relief. "I didn't even realize what had happened until I was told…" He sighed, sometimes he wasn't the brightest and he could admit that. "... I'm sorry for not getting help, I panicked…"
Dream was clearly surprised, Tubbo wondered if he'd expected more of a fight…had Dream expected to have to fight him? Tubbo had to fight back a shudder at the thought. "What do you mean you didn't mean to? Why else were you in the prison?"
Uh oh. Tubbo hadn't planned for that question, he wasn't exactly sure how to respond to this. He stammered slightly before sighing and hanging his head. “I was upset Dream...I needed a way to vent…” He began to speak the truth, seeing no other way out- until he realised it sounded a lot more innocent then what happened, he offered a shaky smile. “I thought I could talk to Fundy, he’s still my friend no matter how much he tries to betray the nation, why else would I have been so lenient?”
He could feel Dream’s burning gaze from behind the mask, he didn’t quite have the man's trust yet, and he couldn’t blame him either. This was a very dangerous conversation they were having- two of the most powerful people in the land, barely civil with each other. He knew Dream was considering his words, he wondered if he knew he no longer had any power- he’d given it all to Eret and by proxy to Tubbo himself.
Dream let out a small sigh, nodding and standing up. “Alright kid, fine. I’ll believe your words, but I do want to tell you one thing and I want to make sure it sticks.” Tubbo looked up at him curiously, not understanding where this was going as Dream leans in real close, lowering his tone to a hushed hiss. “People are scared of you, I know you know this. I know you’re aware of the power you have- so don’t abuse it Princeling. I know you’re evil, hurt anyone I care about again and it’s the guillotine for your royal ass.”
Tubbo felt ice run down his spine, a real threat of one of the two best warriors in the world, and one that saw right through his act. He’d have to be careful. He smiled as Dream as the green man went to grab his sword. “Don’t worry Dream, I already have what I wanted- unless someone does something drastic then I won’t do anything.” He stands up himself, holding out his hand. “Stay away from my palace and I won’t tell Fundy that the dreamon’s back.”
Dream shook his hand without any hesitation. “How could you tell?”
Tubbo had to chuckle just a little at that, he knew Dream’s weakness. “I’ve dealt with them before, remember? I know how to tell.”
Dream takes a step back, looking down at down at his hand, blood. His eyes go wide. "What..?"
Tubbo smiles, knowing exactly what's going to happen as he takes a small knife and slashes his own cheek with the blade, crying out as he does so. A small bead of blood rolls down his cheek as he stares dead at the eyes of Dream's mask. "Release the hounds."
He watched Dream stumble back and reach under the mask to wipe away sweat that began to appear on his forehead. He stands up and begins to slowly back into a wall as spines pop out of Dreams back and a tail and horns sprout, the warrior struggles out of his tight and confining clothes as the mask falls to the floor, revealing a face the server knew all too well.
The face of a dreamon.
Small objects and paperwork flung around the room as Tubbo grabbed a chair to defend himself with, screaming for assistance as the dreamon leapt onto the desk and swiped at him with its claws. Maybe this wasn’t the best plan, he’d definitely had some better. Why was no one coming to help him? Sure he only had one guard on duty but still- he was their god damn prince. He threw the chair at the dreamon and shrieked at the top of his lungs, rushing to the door and flinging it open.
He ran down the corridor and out of the palace, scrambling somewhat up the flag post to where the dreamon couldn’t reach, and he screamed- well in view of the citizens. They instantly understood what to do, swords were drawn and within seconds Dream had been sent back to respawn. Tubbo was helped down and comforted, he was still a little in shock by the near miss of his plan. He had really expected that to turn out differently.
He told them that Dream had lost control of the dreamon randomly, told them he was worried he’d done it on purpose. He was comforted and assured he didn’t do anything wrong as Tommy paced back and forth, cursing Dream to the heavens.

What happens in the base...
7
"One of his ribs was broken, we don't know what happened, he's in a stable state now I think...Niki wanted you to know."
Wilbur felt his heart drop, his son had gotten hurt when he was away. Wilbur always tried to keep Fundy away from danger, but he couldn't do that now… Was his coddling the reason for Fundy's weakness?
He thanked Sam and watched as he left, he ran his hands through his hair. Schlatt put a hand on his shoulder. "It's ok Wilbur…"
He knew that Tubbo had seen him select Fundy to torment when he was in charge, he knows Tubbo probably picked that up from him subconsciously...he knows he's assuming Tubbo did this, but he knows that kid, he knows him… He feels guilt, was it his fault Fundy was the target for all Tubbo's torturous whims?
He let Wilbur hug him, he let Wilbur vent about not feeling like a good enough parent, not being able to go and see his son… Wilbur had a lot of issues huh?
Schlatt supposed they all had issues, this cave was filled with adults that had issues; Schlatt had his own lust for power, his feeling of betrayal after Tubbo had done that to him, Techno had his issues with orphans and social anxiety, and Wilbur...had issues Schlatt didn't want to get into really. It was apparent anyway.
They sat on the grass outside together, Techno was inside making breakfast. Wilbur leaned against Schlatt, absolutely silent. Schlatt knew Wilbur was finally able to see clearly, he could finally understand what had happened and how his actions affected the people around him. Schlatt understood this feeling, he'd felt this too, he knew to let Wilbur have his quiet.
Wilbur had never appreciated a friendship like this before; he and Schlatt were equal, they were both ex leaders, they were both criminals who abused their power- criminals who let literal children do their jobs for them, adults who regretted every word they'd said. They'd been at war for so long, they'd almost forgotten that they were best friends.
The both of them knew they didn't deserve forgiveness, both of them knew they'd have so much work to redeem themselves- but they know they really won't need to work for forgiveness, there's a greater evil in L'manburg now, their crimes are forgotten. They both know they'll work for it anyway.
Maybe if they saved the nation it would help? Not that either of them knew how… this child was something neither of them had seen before in all their days, pure evil with a smile sweet as honey. Schlatt never saw him coming, Wilbur never saw behind the smile. They wondered how he'd hidden it so well, you think you know someone, you think you know everything… and something new comes around to push you back down into the mud.
It wasn’t too long until Techno broke out something he’d been saving for victory, but ultimate loss needed it more. Freshly brewed booze, a mug for each ex-tyrant, Techno himself just sat and munched on his potatoes. Schlatt and Wilbur were painfully honest, saying things that’d never normally say, luckily neither will remember it.
They cling to each other, tired and overwhelmed. They laugh and they cry and they tell each other how much they appreciate them, how much they missed the other. Techno just watches quietly, he didn’t want to say anything but…
A loud and chaotic one, self imposed honour and way too high self esteem, best friends with a more compressed, equally as chaotic but more deceitful about it- malicious and plainly honest when it’s the rude thing to say. War ‘hero’ and the tyrant…
It was almost poetic in a way, poetic and concerning…
Techno was concerned, look what L’manburg had done to wilbur- sure he was probably already like that but the wars had definitely made it worse. Tommy was younger, and much more susceptible to that kind of thing, if the wars can make Wilbur go mad- who's to say it wouldn’t do the same to tommy? Tommy’s main guide has always been Wilbur, and although Tubbo switches father figures like he's playing musical chairs but Schlatt was the one everyone saw as his main father figure, a mentor at the least. Techno didn't like how this was playing out...

His L'manburg
7
"Daddy?" The small fox watched the fish in the river. "Is momma there?"
His father sighed, not even glancing over. "She went upstream a long time ago Fundy, it's just you and me now buddy."
"Dad?" The fox was older now, a little dress shirt on as he watched his father cooking up some sort of substance he didn't understand. "How did you and mom make me?" He looked down at his little paws, his father didn't have those, and he didn't think fish did either.
"When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much-" His father started, chuckling when the fox ran off.
Barely a man, the fox watched his dad sew the flag of their new nation. "Wilbur… don't you think you're taking this too far?"
The leader of the revolution glanced at his son, sighing. "He's a tyrant Fundy, he needs to be stopped." He ruffled the top tuft of fur on the fox's head before putting a hat on him. "Now go train with the others."
Fundy looked up to his father, he really did. But Wilbur never seemed to even give him the time of day, he was thinking about that now as he lay in bed, aching from the broken ribs. He glanced up at Niki, who was preparing a soup for him, he sighed.
Wilbur would've never done that for him, Wilbur would've told him to walk it off, Wilbur wouldn't even glance his direction. As much as Fundy hated to admit it, he just wanted Wilbur to be proud of him. He'd thought if he won the election Wilbur would finally see Fundy's abilities- but all that happened that day was Wilbur expressed disappointment for Fundy cheating...then Schlatt won.
Fundy's last legal conversation with Wilbur had been getting scolded… they hadn't really had any real conversations afterwards either… Fundy just wanted to see the pride on Wilburs face he'd seen Wilbur direct towards Tommy many times before now.
Wilbur wasn't even Tommy's parent, why did Wilbur care more about him than Fundy? Who even was Tommy's parent? Sure the kid was younger then he was, but it still wasn't fair, Fundy deserved just as much praise: here he was risking his life just by existing while Tommy ran around with the tyrant, happy as can be.
And Fundy could almost bet Wilbur was already planning to save Tommy, even if the best didn't need it. Wilbur couldn't care less about his own son, but this random child? Oh yes the random brat needs caring for, of course.
"Fundy, you're crying? Are you alright?"
Niki had been standing over him, holding a bowl of soup. Fundy sighed and sat up, wiping his tears away with a soft paw. "I'm fine...sorry, it's nothing."
Niki sighed, she knew what it was like when Fundy was sad; his ears drooped and his tail went still. She sat on the bed next to him and put a gentle hand on the top of his head. "I'm here for you Fundy, I know you've been very stressed lately- there's nothing wrong with negative emotions."
He leant on her, sighing and just enjoying the comfort as she wrapped her arms around him and slowly stroked his fur. She was always so kind and patient, it was nice being her friend…
Niki was really the best person in the land; she had an airtight moral compass, a kind and compassionate soul, she was a great baker and even knew how to help medically- she'd helped Dream with the baby…
The baby, little Nightmare… Fundy didn't even know if it was his, he knew it was likely but the fact there was doubt made him uneasy- he trusted Dream of course, but it was just how his brain worked, anything that could cause worry would.
Speak of the devil…
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a stroller in here?" In walked Dream, pushing the stroller that contained the tiny Nightmare.
Dream rushed over to Fundy and grasped his front paws. "Are you alright?? I heard what happened, George told me."
Fundy sighed, leaning forward just a little to nuzzle Dream's cheek softly. "Hm, I'm fine babe…"
Niki frowns. "You better lay back down young man, you'll hurt yourself further." Fundy sighs but does what he's told.
Dream went to grab Nightmare, bringing her to the bed. "Do you want to hold her?"
Fundy nodded, feeling a lot better when the small baby was handed to him. He nuzzled her gently, feeling a soft layer of fur on her skin. He didn't say a word but it just made him all the more at peace, he quietly yipped words of love and praise to the tiny creature. She looked up at him with those little black eyes of hers, she must have sensed he was in pain, she leant on the side that didn't hurt. "She's beautiful isn't she..?"
Dream nods. "She was very excited to meet you, I figured this was as a good of an excuse as any."
Fundy chuckles, nodding. He licked Nightmare's cheek softly, causing the baby to giggle. He feels his heart swell with love and pride, he glances to Niki. "Isn't she cute?"
Niki nods, chuckling softly. "She really is, don't let your food go cold though Fundy, I just made that soup."
He rolls his eyes, sighing softly but nodding. "Sure, fine." He shuffles up and starts to drink the soup. Nightie snuggles up to him and does little baby cooing sounds up at him. He smiles softly at that.
Nightmare is so tiny, she's smaller than a human baby that's for sure, Fundy isn't sure what Dream even is so that doesn't help, but she does seem to be around the size of a newborn kit. That thought makes him very happy, his own little kit...she even has little bumps on top of her head...maybe they're ears?
This also brings to mind the fact that Wilbur is now a grandfather...Fundy doesn't like that fact, if Wilbur was so ignorant of Fundy's wants then who says he'll even care about poor Nightie. He makes his mind up right there, Wilbur doesn't deserve to be Nightmare's grandfather, he won't be told.
He is brought out of these thoughts by little Nightie yipping up at him, no words, just little baby tips. Fundy smiles, nuzzling her and yipping back words of affection and love, he adores this kit with his whole beings. She's so soft and cute and he would die for her. He glances up at Dream... he'd die for him too. He'd die for his family if needs be…
Wilbur was not a part of his family.

The Tubbo Administration
7
When George and Punz came in to check on the prison, they found Fundy gasping and whimpering on the floor of his cell, with the door open. Punz knelt down and removed the collar around Fundy's neck, making sure he could at least breathe.
George had run out to grab someone who could help, and quickly returned, Niki by his side. Niki knelt by Fundy and looked down at him, checking to see what was wrong. "Oh god...oh god Fundy...I'm so sorry…"
The two guards stood back, not knowing what to do or how to help as Niki begins to panic, pulling a health potion out and guiding it to Fundy's mouth. She looks up at them "he needs rest, rest and a lot more potions- can you get Sam? He's got an autobrewer."
They both nod and run off towards his base, worried for Fundy. He might be a prisoner but he was still a friend, they didn't even think he deserved prison really. They wondered what could have happened to him.
Luckily he was to be released that morning.
Around an hour later, Fundy was in a spare bed in the bakery, Niki insisted on taking care of him. She turned to Sam, who'd provided just enough potions and sighed. "Could you...try and send word to Wilbur? He's Fundy's father, he deserves to know."
Awsamdude looked taken aback, but nodded. "I can try, I don't know if I can make it though...maybe I'll go through the nether."
She nodded, brushing Fundy's fur gently. "At least try... that's all we can really do…"
At that same time, George went to wake Tubbo up, finding his room empty. He frowned, this felt bad. He went to check Tommy's room, maybe they'd just had a sleepover?
But Tubbo wasn't there either, and Tommy seemed quite annoyed when George asked if he'd seen him. "You lost Tubbo? Aren't you supposed to be a guard?" He stood and glared at George. "I swear, if he's hurt and you did nothing, oooh I'll tell you- I'll be really fucking pissed of I will." He storms out of the room and begins to help George look for their prince.
But it was Punz who next spotted him, walking back through the gates of L'manburg, talking happily with Eret. The king looked slightly concerned as he nodded along to what Tubbo was saying. Then Tommy stormed over. "Oi Tubbo! Where've you been? Everyone's been looking for you!"
Tubbo looked surprised at this. "Oh! I was with Eret!" He smiles, hands behind his back.
Tommy sighed, going to speak when George interrupted him. "Sir! Fundy's hurt!"
Eret looked surprised, glancing down at Tubbo who mirrored his surprise. "What happened, why weren't you guarding him?"
Eret pauses, frowning. "Guarding..?"
George sighed. "It happened during the night, we weren't there."
Tubbo frowns. "well is he alright now?"
"Yes, he's with Niki."
Eret quickly mumbled that he was going to visit the bakery and ran off.
Tubbo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Surely you didn't worry that much?"
Tommy frowns softly. "Tubbo…"
"What?"
Tubbo was suddenly pulled into a hug, Tommy holding him close and protectively putting his chin on the top of his head. "Never do that kind of shit again, you...worried me."
Tubbo's eyes went wide, he knew Tommy wasn't one for emotions or weakness. He knew that he'd scared Tommy. He sighed and hugged back. "I'm sorry Tommy…"
Tommy sighed and stepped back. "Was it because I yelled?"
"Oh no, don't worry. It's... fine."
Tommy frowned, but didn't say a word as he watched Tubbo hurry back to the palace to grab his crown.
Another week went by, Tubbo had shown himself to be a great ruler. He took great pains to help his citizens, he even helped when Niki kept having to sleep outside due to a strange smell she swore was carbon monoxide. He assured her it was probably from the furnace and helped the guards clean out the bakery piece by piece and make sure it was safe.
He even helped work the farm he'd helped set up under Schlatt, now ensuring that there was a constant and fair supply of food and supplies, even going so far as to have it counted out equally, commandeering anything he decided was unfair to the others. His palace amassed quite the treasury.
Eret had been giving him advice and guidance with ruling the kingdom, mostly during a bi-weekly tea time. Tommy had neglected to join him even in spite of being invited. Tommy had been pranked, it was unclear if this was related.
George had noticed the young Prince's jacket in the prison when he'd found Fundy, the only person he'd mentioned this two was Dream, who was already disapproving of his profession. Dream had been upset to hear how Fundy had been hurt, but was not convinced it was the actions of the little prince of L'manburg. Why else would the jacket be there?
The green man was pacing the room, arms folded behind his back. "But why would he hurt Fundy? He's a pushover isn't he?" He looked to George, looking for answers. His face gave away his worry, his mask lay unused on the table- he trusted his best friend enough to leave his face open.
"I don't know Dream, he's kind of…scary? Like not like you can be- he's like… like you're scared of what people think he thinks you know?"
"I don't?"
George sighed, looking to the floor. "You know that feeling when you're a kid, right? And you've just smashed a vase, you know there's nothing you can do- the best solution is honesty but you panic. You panic because you're scared you've crossed a line. Maybe if you hide it no one will know. And Tubbo's like...like that nagging guilt, the voice in your ear that reminds you nothing lasts forever?"
"You're scared. Of a child?" Dream raises an eyebrow, he knows George can be a little dramatic at times, and he really doesn't think the little kid can be that bad. He's the slowest of the duo after all.
"He's terrifying, Dream, just don't say anything. He means well."
"I don't think he does." Dream went to the window and looked out, a bee was flying past as he did, ironic. "He's just a child sure, but if this is how he treats his citizens then he doesn't deserve his throne. He is there to serve them, not the other way around. That is a ruler's purpose."
George looked over at him, frowning. "You're not gonna hurt him are you? Cause I can't let that happen."
"No, I won't do anything like that, I'll just have a word with him." He grabs the mask, looking at it. "Maybe let the dreamon at him…"
"You know they said the dreamon's dangerous."
"And who said that?"
"Fundy did, remember?" George rises to his feet, walking over to put a hand on his friend's shoulders. "He worries about you Dream, and so do we."
"I don't believe a word Tubbo says, and neither should Fundy. If this is the actions of a boy who claims dreamon is dangerous I'm more inclined to believe the opposite."
"Dream…"
"I'm angry George, I won't let him hurt Fundy. This is a line he shouldn't have crossed."
George sighed angrily, fed up with Dream's way of doing things. "Sure Dream, and I'm on babysitting duty?"
"Yep, you know where everything is?"
George nodded. "Why can't Sapnap babysit?"
"Because Sapnap has better things to do."
"I'm the one with the job!"
"Your job is to guard a tiny tyrant, I'll be there so you don't have to worry."
George just sighed. "I'll tell him I'm taking the night off…"
Dream nodded. "Good, and I'm sure you a Nightie will have a great night." He chuckled, putting his mask back on. "Now I'm going to go check on Fundy, could you grab the pram?"

Letters from the dictator
6
The door was flung open and Fundy looked up to see Tubbo enter. Tubbo let out a sigh and undid his cloak, hanging it up, he also removed his jacket and hung that up, leaving himself in a vest and trousers. He stepped towards the cell where Fundy was situated. "I'm already in a bad mood Fundy, please don't make it worse, try and stay quiet alright?"
Fundy frowned up at him and Tubbo smiled. "Oh don't worry, I'm not here to talk." He clicked his knuckles and went to unlock the cell door, stepping inside.
He was upset, he was hurt, but more than anything he was angry. The feeling of soft fur against his fists was an almost heavenly feeling, teeth bit into his wrist and his eyes went wide- throwing the culprit into the wall.
"Stop it!!"
He sighed, running a hand through his hair, why were loyalists so bothersome? "Fundy…" He warned. "I'd asked you to stay quiet, I just need to work some stuff out and I'd thank you to give me the space I need."
"You're hurting me!!"
His fist was closed around soft fur, a yelp sounded in the air and he closed his eyes. He punched and punched and punched, he could feel all the hurt and anger he had felt slowly dissolve.
Why hadn't he tried that before?
He felt a crunch and instantly pulled his hands away, cringing at the sound. He shakes his hands and frowns. "What was that?"
Fundy let out a raspy sigh. "My...ribs…"
"Ah, ew." He can't say he doesn't feel a pang of guilt, looking down at Fundy...Fundy was his friend wasn't he? And now he's hurt? Tubbo slowly stands up, hands shaking. He smiles, just like he knows how to do- innocent and sweet. "Thank you for helping me with this Fundy, I'll have you released tomorrow morning."
He turned to leave, grabbing his cloak but leaving his jacket, speed walking back to the palace. He paid great attention to his footsteps and how they clicked and clacked on the wood floor, it was all he could think about, or else…
The moment he got upstairs, he didn't even make it to his room. He collapsed right in the centre of the dancing room, sobbing and shaking all over. Tommy was right wasn't he? He really was evil? He'd hurt someone he cared about...because he'd been yelled at by someone he cares about more. He'd never been a very violent guy, why did he do that? Was he losing his mind? It felt like he was going insane.
He couldn't breathe, his face was dripping and the cloak had fully covered him, reducing his air intake. He gasped for breath, wiping his face and gasping. His breathing wasn't regulated, his sobs interrupted each gasp. He felt like he was dying, he hadn't had a breakdown like this since he was way smaller. He was acutely aware of what was happening to him and a huge part of him began screaming that he was just attention seeking.
He knew how to get people attention, he'd been doing it for a long time and he'd perfected the art. This was not how you do it! This is nothing but pure emotion! He was screaming in his head, every part of him screaming, vying to be heard. All that was verbal was sobs and whimpers from the princeling that took L'manburg by force.
He was warm, yes, but he felt cold. Everything was hitting him at once, he'd hurt so many people...he didn't feel guilt for hurting Schlatt of course, Schlatt was worse than him. Had he hurt Niki? He didn't really think so but she seemed to- she'd always been one to dramatise things. Was Tommy hurt by his actions? Maybe...Tubbo wasn't sure- he had yelled but then he'd apologized… Tubbo had to remember to be really nice to Tommy in the future, he didn't want to upset his best friend. He'd definitely hurt Fundy, he'd heard that crunch himself. Why did guilt feel so cold? His spine was made of ice but his skin was burning up, even his tears were warm!
He felt like he was falling, why did he feel like this? He had everything he'd ever wanted didn't he? Why was he losing his mind over this???
Maybe it was the lack of parents? Techno had always claimed that orphans were all mad and evil… Tubbo slowly thought about it, maybe getting an actual permanent father figure would help him out in the long run? He even had the perfect candidate…
He got to his feet and dropped his cloak to the floor, he turned and headed back downstairs he glanced to the side and saw a canister of gas...that Schlatt had gotten for… Tubbo didn't actually know...but it would come in handy. He grabbed it.
He'd taken the long way to Eret's castle, passing Niki's bakery and grabbing a cookie on his way- surely she wouldn't mind. He wondered if she knew he didn't hate her, he never had.
Cold, the air was biting him, he wrapped the cloak closer to himself. He probably should have put his jacket back on but he really didn't care at this point, he could barely see for tears. It was a bit tricky getting the gates open on his own but he managed it.
The wind was whipping around him, biting into his face and arms. His face as almost fully numb. But he couldn't stop, he had to do this, Eret could help- whether he wanted to or not.
It took around half an hour to get there, but soon Tubbo was knocking weakly on Eret's door. The king opened up, in his pajamas and looked down at Tubbo in confusion, Tubbo looked like a wreck, tears and snot all over the kids face, hair unbrushed and nothing but a vest and some trousers on. The prince wore his cloak like a blanket and was clearly shivering from the cold. "Tubbo? What's going on?"
Tubbo just burst into tears, hugging Eret tightly. "C-...can I stay with you tonight..?" He looked up at Eret, seeing the shock and empathy flood the king's face in droves.
He was instantly led inside, Eret wrapping his arms around the kid. "Of course, of course. What kind of guy would I be if I didn't help you. You must be freezing, come on- I can get a fire started?"
Tubbo looked up at him, he'd never felt so worried about in his life, he was right- Eret could help.
Before long the king had him sat down swaddled in a blanket with a warm milk. "What happened Tubbo, are you alright?"
Tubbo just sighs and looks down. "I don't know...I just feel really really upset for some reason... maybe I had a nightmare and didn't realize?" He couldn't tell Eret what he'd done, Eret would hate him for it.
Eret nodded slowly and ruffled Tubbo's hair. "It's alright... you're safe here, it's just a little dream." He sighed and smiled softly at Tubbo.
Tubbo never really saw Eret's eyes before... they're pure white. He felt some sort of strange awe, like there was an unseen power behind those softly glowing orbs. He felt as if all his bad feelings were being forcefully removed…
"Do you want to borrow my extra blanket?"
Tubbo nodded as Eret led him to the guest room, spare blanket...it was a knitted pride flag. Still very comfortable though, he couldn't deny that. He lay in the bed and smiled up at Eret. "Thanks…"
Eret smiled back at him. "It's really no problem man, I care about you, you know?" He chuckled lightly and tucks him in slightly, turning off the lantern. He walked to the door and glanced back for a moment with a soft smile. "Sleep well."
"Thanks dad…" He'd said it without thinking, too sleepy to realise what was coming out of his mouth, he saw Eret freeze but fell asleep before he could process it.
In his dream he saw a throne, it was a rather beautiful sight, one he'd never yet seen. Why hadn't he had a throne built already? He took a step forward and felt himself being pulled backwards. He turned around and saw Tommy, clinging to him and crying- he had no eyes…
Tubbo for some reason was no longer in control of his limbs, he pushed Tommy away and began to run towards the throne- which was now far away. Bodies began to fall from the sky… Wilburs… Nikis… more and more began to fall as he raced towards the throne.
His crown was there, perched on the cushion. He needed his crown, he needed his power. When he finally reached it, his crown was snatched away. A pair of glowing white eyes stared at him and he suddenly felt hot. Burning and scoring he felt his throat tighten as he tried to let out a scream.
But he was silent, he couldn't make a single sound.
When he opened his eyes, he was in Eret's arms, Eret was rocking him gently. "Shh shh, it's ok, you were just having a nightmare."
Tubbo realised he must have been screaming aloud, he leant into Eret and just cried silently. Neither of them said a word, neither of them had to… they both knew the other didn't want to speak.
But Tubbo knew that Eret must be wondering what was going on in his head and Eret knew that Tubbo would wonder if he heard the freudian slip earlier that night.
Neither of them wanted to answer.

What happens in the base...
6
Sorry it's so late
They'd gotten used to Schlatt being there and Tommy not. It had only been a week but it seemed like Schlatt had settled into the daily grind almost instantly- either that or he threw himself into work to escape his grief.
Wilbur was coping a little less, he kept worrying about Tommy, he knew Tubbo was very fond of Tommy but... he'd had him dragged off, like some filthy criminal. He hoped that Tubbo would at least be merciful with him, or at least wouldn't hurt poor Tommy's feelings. He'd spent most the week sat by the entrance of Pogtopia, petting L'dog and staring out at the entrance.
Techno had tried to bring him food, but not much of it was touched. He even made food with meat in it for Wilbur, nothing was touched even then.
The two hybrids often sat together in silence, Techno knew that Schlatt was hurting but he didn't really know how to help. He tried to offer help. "Well… he was an orphan wasn't he? It's to be expected."
Schlatt glanced up at him, sighing. "We don't know...Wilbur just found him and Tommy wandering around a forest one day… they've yet to say anything."
Techno nodded, he wasn't aware of that. "well they're probably orphans? Do you think they're brothers?"
Schlatt shrugs. "Well if they're siblings then Tommy has even less of a chance at survival- cain instinct."
"I wouldn't know a thing about that, only child."
"Eh, I find psychology very interesting. Never really had a sibling myself either." Schlatt sighed. "Not one for family."
"But didn't you consider Tubbo your son?"
"And look where that got me? Poisoned and exiled." Schlatt's tone was instantly colder, with rage and sorrow under the surface.
"Poisoned?" Techno raised an eyebrow.
"Oh I never told anyone huh…" Schlatt sighs. "Word of advice; never let Tubbo make your coffee."
"Oh is that where your illness came from?"
"I guess so… makes sense doesn't it?"
Techno nods, he likes talking to Schlatt- they're more or less on the same page even if they don't always agree. They get along.
The last few hours of the night, Techno had come up to check on Wilbur. Only to find him shaking and mumbling about blowing it all sky high, saving it by killing it. Techno sighed and picked him up, rolling his eyes when Wilbur struggled. "I'm not having you go mad out here. Come on."
He carried Wilbur to the bed, putting him down gently and tucking him in. "Your boys will be fine, don't worry Wilbur. They're going to be safe with each other." He quickly shushes Wilburs objections and nods. "Trust me, now go to sleep." He sighs and snuffs out the candle, walking away from Wilbur's room.
He sat down on his own bed, taking out a copy of the art of war to read. He found it almost funny how well Tubbo had been manipulating people, it was downright impressive. He wondered if Tubbo had ever read the art of war, he's a growing kid, maybe Techno should get him a copy for Christmas. He smiled, he felt like the kid would appreciate it.
He only had one question when he layed down to sleep, Fundy had been bringing him bagged lunches, he'd never seen Schlatt so humbled by kindness before. But Fundy hadn't even shown up that lunch time, Techno wondered if he'd gotten caught.
Probably, Tubbo was rather good at spotting things like that- Techno wondered why no one else had noticed.
Orphans huh, Techno didn't have a doubt in his mind that Tubbo was an orphan. The kid was scary. When he looked into Tubbo's eyes he saw that same spark of crazy evil he'd seen in the eyes of the orphans, he was old enough that it didn't shake him anymore but that glint was unmistakable. He wondered why orphans were like that...he was technically an orphan too, although he hated to admit it. He knew not all of them were like that...but all the ones he'd met were that way. Maybe it was trauma? He'd seen the worst thing with his own eyes, and he definitely was what one might call a 'killing machine' even if he preferred to just farm...he wondered if Tubbo had had something similar, but Tubbo wasn't ever one to fight, he was a lot more deceptive… what had to have happened to this kid to make him the way that he is? Techno had no idea.

His L'manburg
6
Niki sat alone in her bakery, it was late at night but she couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about Fundy, he'd been taken back to the prison cell today, I was her fault- she'd made little bagged lunches for the Pogtopians but Fundy had gotten caught crossing the borders. She knew what the punishment for speaking with the outlaws was exile but they couldn't prove Fundy had spoken to them, only that he was planning to- how would he be punished?
She distrusted Tubbo with every bone in her body, she knew he'd do something to punish Fundy, even if it wasn't immediately apparent. She didn't want to look at Fundy and know that he's been hurt, but without the knowledge of how- she didn't want him physically hurt, but mentally would be worse…
She leant against the wall, hair falling over her face. She was feeling guilt, a horrible, cold feeling that snuck it's way up her spine and dragged her soul down to the cold, cold floor. She looked at her hands, they were shaking. It was a cold night yes, but she shouldn't be shaking… it had to be stress- she wouldn't admit to being scared.
She thought about Tubbo, why was he the way that he was. She could understand just being a tired asshole when he feels safe, that much now seems tame. What she couldn't excuse was manipulation, blackmail, deceit and outright bullying. Her core suddenly warmed with rage at the thought as to what Tubbo had planned for this poor nation, to what he had planned for poor Fundy, and Tommy...poor poor Tommy, unable to see before his friendship with that dictator. She just hoped that his moral code was stronger than Tubbo's influence over him, he might just be L'manburg's last hope.
She sighed heavily and gets to her feet, slipping into her nightgown, Eret had made it for her: it was a light pink with strawberry patterns embroidered with silk, reminiscent of that dress Eret had bought from some other land. She'd really liked how it looked, so he'd made her a nightgown similar. It brought her a little bit of comfort as she recalled that Eret was still the highest power.
She sat on the edge of the bed, brushing her hair as she slowly hummed to her, L'manburg's anthem, it brought her a strange sort of comfort, a sorrowful one. But tonight it sparked rage in her, a passion for this nation that would not as quickly die out as this tiny tyrant might wish, they were founded to fight tyrants like him.
Just when she was about to get into bed, Awsamdude comes knocking, he looks alarmed. "Niki!"
Niki stood suddenly and rushed over. "What's wrong Sam? What happened??" She'd gone right back to panicking, hands shaking too.
"I was passing the prison, and I heard a yelp, like a scared animal...I think it was Fundy."
A cold ice krept into her veins and down her spine, she didn't want to but she wondered what had happened to Fundy. She nodded slowly and sighed. "Thank you…I can't do anything right now…but thank you for letting me know."
He nodded. "Alright, good night." He turned to leave.
Niki sighs and waves. "Sleep well."
She watched him leave, a sinking feeling in her chest. She flipped back down onto her bed, she wasn't going to sleep tonight.
Something smelt funny, almost like burning. Niki got out of bed and looked around, quickly realising what she was smelling. She gasped and covered her mouth, but she was already feeling dizzy. She stumbled out of the bakery and sat by the shore, catching her breath. The world seemed to spin as she sat there, feeling woozy.
She couldn't go back inside, at least not tonight, she'd have to air it out too. Niki sighed when she realised she was struggling to make sense of her own thoughts, she lay back on the grassy bank and stared up at the stars.
She found herself thinking back to the war, no real decipherable thoughts, just pure flashbacks to the times they were fighting. She remembered the way her heart had hammered in her chest- skipping a beat with every cry of pain from her friends. She remembered how Eret had betrayed them; the face of guilt he wore so such a long time afterwards was almost too much for her fuzzy brain at that time. Tears welled in her eyes, but they felt numb to her, was it the gas, or her emotions that made her numb? She didn't know. She just let her thoughts and memories fade into music as she slowly closed her eyes and drifted into nod.
"What's wrong with you Niki?? He's just a kid."
"Listen to me! He's really rude!"
"That doesn't make a person evil."
Doesn't it? Does a disregard for human emotions make for a very good person? Does a willingness to hurt others for your own gain make you a hero?
Does that matter if the person you hurt was evil in the first place?
She was sitting in a chair, she watched herself argue with Wilbur. He was defending Tubbo after she'd pointed out that he was evil. She remembers that, she remembers feeling hurt that Wilbur didn't even consider her point of view…
But she was trying to show Tubbo's true colours, he was a tricky little guy. You couldn't catch him out no matter how hard you tried. She felt that rage grow in her again.
She was back in the prison, there was Fundy...why had he yelled? She could see all the possible reasons, none of them were what she wanted for him. That poor fox, getting hurt over and over and over again…
Wait...this was a dream? Of course it was! In no world would Fundy be getting hurt repeatedly like that… Niki looked around, oh this was definitely a dreamscape, it looked like the set of a movie.
She takes a deep breath and gets to her feet, feeling herself falling through the floor and feeling lightheaded. Falling through a bright like and finding herself staring up at the morning sun.
She sighs.
