meet Morrivan (he/him) and Locke (they/them), champion and voice of Aurene a few hundred years post-GW2. a sylvari trying to right a lot of past wrongs and a norn/human drifter with lycanthropic tendencies.

Locke stumbled upon Morrivan after the bandit troupe that took him in as a sapling left him for dead in a blizzard, and they've been inseparable since---even after their aimless travels through the far northern Shiverpeaks led them to wander into the hidden cavern/napping spot of a dragon who had all but faded into myth.

Still workshopping the lore of this post-GW2 Tyria but I like these two very much :)

2. How do they feel about norn society's expectations and traditions? Are they comfortable in norn society? Is there anything they wish was different?

Haven's kind of ambivalent to Norn expectations. Her desire to be someone of renown is dependent on the fear of her and what she can do. She loves to be in control. She loves the adoration of people who are afraid. The only one who stands on equal ground is Cross, who fears nothing and no one and the two of them kind of bounce off of each other like that. Haven's not much of a traditional Norn, especially having been raised outside of the culture by her mother for the majority of her childhood. She doesn't think much of crafting a legend, despite doing just that by accident. In terms of comfort, Haven feels very comfortable with any group of people. She adapts well and most of the time she spends among other people is devising a way to scam them. Part of her certainly wishes she was raised among other Norn, either within Hoelbrak or at least near the Shiverpeaks. It's not something that can be changed now.

Cross wants to grow her legend if only to become the greatest Norn ever known. By way of being the Commander, she seems to have succeeded. She's not much of a traditional Norn, she mostly wishes to be seen as the greatest, rightfully so. Cross has always believed she deserved to be seen in that fashion, even when she was young. Despite that, she has always been a bit of an outcast among other Norn. Most orphaned children are raised communally, and Cross was no different, however her attitude about other people made her disliked easily. It was another reason she and Haven were drawn to each other.

10. Did anyone mentor them or did they learn things by themselves? Would they have wanted a teacher or a different one? Was there something they wished someone had taught them before they had to learn by themselves?

By virtue of Haven's mom being a Shaman of Raven and a powerful necromancer, Haven grew up with a personal teacher and mentor that spent a lot of her time making sure Haven grew up to be the best necromancer of all time. By the time she was a teen she was extremely adept at death magic and fluidly incorporated it into any fighting she did.

In contrast, Cross grew up learning a more solid way of fighting utilizing her size and brute force. That's not to say Cross didn't use any magic, she certainly did but it was volatile and untrained. With her reputation of being generally disliked and difficult to get along with, there weren't many in Hoelbrak willing to mentor or train her (a few here and there but it never lasted). Until Haven's mom caught wind of her. With training her own daughter, she figured it would be relatively simple to incorporate Cross into it as well. Cross responded well to Inclementia's training, but even more so, she responded well to Haven who was ecstatic to have someone else around to bully train with.

They obviously meshed well together and Haven would often choose to be around Cross past the time they spent training, which was a new experience for Cross. Haven is about a year older than Cross and when Cross began training with her, they were in their early teens. Haven and Cross spend the next several years in training under Inclementia, and in that time they also dated each other. At one point Cross just leaves abruptly, with no explanation or discussion, despite talking to Haven about traveling Tyria together, she leaves without a word. This is devastating to Haven and causes irreparable damage to their future relationship.

Inclementia didn't much care for how her teachings were used, the idea was to prepare them for whatever may come and she did that well. She has a certain level of pride knowing she's the one who trained the famous Commander, and that her knowledge was eventually used to resurrect Cross. Inclementia is one of the only people that Cross defers to and she credits her for being the reason she can survive everything she does.
