Hey remember that a boycott if actually MORE effective under capitalism if you profess you would actually end the boycott under certain conditions.
“Nothing this company does can make up for their bad actions, I will never buy from them again!” Okay so they’ve lost you as a customer and have no reason to try and get you back. You can HOPE to drive them into bankruptcy but Chic-Fil-A is evidence of how well that works.
“This company did something bad. I would not consider buying their product again, UNLESS, they publicly apologized and made up for it by … [donating money to a cause, promoting different content, offering better care to their employees, etc.]” This is actually MORE likely to be effective because if enough people say this, the company m sees them as potential customers of a certain demographic, and is willing to make changes to get those customers back and, long term, make money from them.

They claimed that Ukraine is full of Nazis - yet they were the Nazis all along. They claimed Ukraine is the most corrupt country in the world - yet they are the oligarchs who openly bought their way into the government. Now they claim that Ukraine isn't the victim, but the aggressor who wants war - yet they threaten numerous countries with invasion. Now they claim Ukraine is ungrateful and greedy - yet they demand us to give up our country's resources to them while gaining nothing in return. Now their leader claims Ukraine is ruled by a dictator - yet he praises the real dictator, who's been ruling a totalitarian regime and starting wars for 25 years. Now they claim Ukraine isn't a democracy - yet they openly call their leader a king and want him to rule forever.
Every accusation is an admission. Always.

hey just a reminder that the news is actively not reporting on the massive protests against the current administration happening across the country. If you're freaking out because "we're really just letting this happen?" No, we aren't, and you're not alone. Don't be complacent and don't give up.

SOCIAL MEDIA "ACTIVISM" IS KEEPING YOU FROM ACTUAL ACTIVISM - HERE'S THE TRUTH
You think you're staying "informed" by doomscrolling through your social feeds 24/7? That's exactly what they want. It's literally designed to keep you angry, scrolling, and - most importantly - doing absolutely fucking nothing.
HERE'S WHAT NO ONE TELLS YOU:
It's OKAY to edit your feeds so you don't see that shit when you're just trying to exist
You do NOT have to consume the world's suffering every second of every day to be a "good activist" - and by the way? You're not even getting "informed" by scrolling. You need to actually look up real articles OFF of social media to understand what's happening
Hitting like and share isn't activism. Sorry. It just isn't.
You wanna actually do something?
Learn your neighbors' names. ACTUALLY TALK TO THEM about what's happening
Join your school board and ask them face-to-face why they're against queer education
Stand up to your racist uncle instead of "keeping the peace" (peace for WHO exactly?)
Find out what abortion rights groups are ALREADY DOING in your area instead of reinventing the wheel
Join an actually inclusive church (you know, like Jesus would've wanted) and see what they're ALREADY DOING to make the world better
And for fuck's sake, stop saying "oh I don't talk about politics" - YOUR SILENCE IS POLITICAL
NEWSFLASH: You don't have to start the fucking underground railroad by yourself. That shit ALREADY EXISTS - you just never had to use it before. Lucky you. So volunteer if you're a safe person, at whatever level works for you:
Send money
Show up in person
Pack supplies
Make pamphlets
Whatever you can do
Not everything's gonna get you in the history books and you know what? IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER.
And here's something else that matters: Going to trauma therapy - REAL trauma therapy with a therapist informed in decolonization practices - is a RADICAL ACT. If you have the means to do it, DO IT. Healing yourself is part of the work too.
AND LISTEN UP BECAUSE THIS IS IMPORTANT: IT'S OKAY THAT IT TOOK YOU THIS LONG IT'S OKAY THAT YOU'RE STARTING SMALL IT'S OKAY THAT YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING
NO ONE EVER PUNISHED THEMSELVES INTO SUCCESS.
You grew up with some racist/sexist views? Yeah, most of us did. You can't get stuck there. There's too much at stake. It's time to deconstruct. It's time to do the work.
But scrolling and sharing posts while feeling guilty? That's not the work. That's what they want you to think the work is.
Get off your phone. Talk to your neighbors. Show up at meetings. Stand up to family. THAT'S the work.

The Soy American Fascist
Maybe this is a hot take, idk, but what we see from this Trump administration, Elon Musk himself and his supporters, and in general the online (and very much irl) far-right is so fucking soy. What I mean by this is how much the far right and this form of fascism we see in the good ole U S of A is so cringe and devoid of principle, its pure grift, its pure cringe, its premium soy. Now, disclaimer, fascism has always been cringe lol and full of unfuckable losers but I think the way internet culture has merged with politics and has shaped the far rights messaging. I think we reached a peak, a new level, of pure cringe. I think for most of history, the upper class, our political leaders, very powerful people were able to more convincingly hide how cringe they are to the masses, but I feel like the mask has fully slipped. JD Vance is a literal 4chan enjoyer, Elon Musk is well...Elon Musk, we have literal 19-year old incel groypers in the government (DOGE), Trump released a failed "trump-coin", and Republicans unironically use the word "Woke" in the very text of the laws they write. That's the end of my incoherent ramble lol. Embrace the Soy.

Polyamory is a part of the Queer/LGBTQ+ community!
Tumblr media
For more nuance lol, polyamory itself isn’t inherently an LGBTQ+ identity, it is ultimately a relationship structure rather than sexual orientation or gender identity, obviously. But we can not deny polyamory roots in queer culture and let's be real most poly people are in fact queer themselves. Cis-het people are not out here starting polycules in droves, the societal normal is heteronormative monogamy. Just as queerness challenges heteronormativity, polyamory challenges mononormativity, and if you have any knowledge of intersectionality these social expectations are connected. Heternormativty is connected with monogamy, which is drenched in Western colonialism, Christianity, patriarchy, and so forth. Queerness, at its core, is more than just a set of identities, the identities in it themselves are a stance that challenges the structures, norms, and assumptions of society, I would argue this is the case for blackness as well. Queerness, in this sense, is a way of seeing, questioning, and existing out of the binary of what is acceptable. Unlike mainstream society, which seeks pseudo-stability, hierarchy, and control, queerness embraces change, transformation, and "becoming" (This connects to Deleuze's idea of “becoming”, the belief that identity is never fixed, but always shifting, etc.). Queerness is not just about sexual identity (got this from the philosopher Judith Butler), but about questioning the entire system that enforces rigid roles. Polyamory aligns with this because it "queer-ify" love itself. For example, many gay people form chosen families outside of biological family structures, mainly because those biological families disowned and or offered an unsafe environment for the queers in that family. Polyamory expands this concept by allowing intimate relationships to be diverse and non-traditional, rather than based on this fixed, essentialist idea of love and family. In this way, polyamory queers relationships, just as queerness queers identity. It reimagines intimacy as something self-defined rather than dictated by tradition, it rejections essentalism. At its core, polyamory is a natural extension of queerness. Both are about breaking free from the rigid norms that dictate how we should live, love, and define ourselves. Both queer and poly are not just about sexuality or relationships, they are philosophies of radical freedom, reshaping the way society understands love, commitment, and human connection.

Why Gay People Love Divas
I recently read this article named "Queer Feelings: Zarah Leander, Sentimentality, and the Gay Diva Worship" by Rosenberg (it's from the book Don't Be Quite, Start a Riot by Rosenberg) and it's definitely worth the read! It dives into why many queers have such a strong identification with female divas, what is our obsession with "cunt" and why we queers love the over-the-topness. In this article, Rosenberg explores the cultural and emotional significance of diva worship within queer communities, particularly through the lens of the actress and singer Zarah Leander, even though this diva worship can be obviously seen today with Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and many more. You zoomers probably don't know who Zarah Leander is lol, but she came about during the Nazi-era German cinema and became an icon for queers back in the 30-40s because of her diva-ness and flamboyance. Rosenberg’s analysis focuses on the sentimental attachments queer people form with divas and how these emotional investments serve as acts of resistance, identity, and expressions of non-normative desire. Diva worship among queer audiences is deeply intertwined with sentimentality. This sentimentality is not simply an indulgence in melodramatic excess but rather a means of articulating queer longing and survival in a heteronormative world. Through queer people's identification with figures like Leander, queer people find a way to navigate their own marginalization, using the diva’s dramatic suffering, powerful resilience, and exaggerated femininity as symbols of their struggles and aspirations. Leander’s appeal to queer audiences lies in her ability to perform emotion in a heightened, theatrical manner, gays love theater lol! Her voice, expressions, makeup, and costume, contribute to an aesthetic of excess and opulence that resonates with queers. This is how the notion of “camp” came about, it plays a crucial role in this dynamic, as queer spectators recontextualize the diva's performances in ways that subvert dominant narratives, turning her into an emblem of queer affect. Queer people have always gravitated toward figures that embody outsiderness, whether through their personal lives, their on-screen personas, or their performativity. This phenomenon extends beyond Leander to other film and music divas (honorable mentions; Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, and Madonna) whose personas offer a space for queer identification. In conclusion, Rosenberg’s analysis sheds light on how queer audiences engage with filmic representations through emotional and performative excess. Diva worship becomes a lens through which queerness is articulated, reclaimed, and celebrated, underscoring the relationship between queer spectatorship and cinematic effect. Read the article skittle people<3

Hot Take Tuesday
You can not be an atheist and believe/practice in horoscopes (zodiac signs) and tarot.
Tumblr media
I think atheism, at its core, rejects the existence of deities and the supernatural. To me, atheism is a form of rejection of essentialist ideology by rejecting the idea of inherent, preordained essences. It challenges the notion of the divine and or the metaphysical. Horoscopes (astrology), just like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc is another form of essentialized morality that relies on supernatural or mystical forces that contradict our current reality. Zodiac signs, horoscopes, and tarot readings are based on unproven mystical forces rather than any type of provable/ testable evidence, it's faith-based. If atheism rejects the idea of divine intervention that many Abrahamic religions speak of due to a lack of evidence, it is inconsistent to accept that planetary positions or shuffled cards can shape human destiny and a person's personality. Astrology, tarot, etc imply an unseen force influencing personal lives, a notion that mirrors religious concepts of fate or divine will, it's the same form of mysticism. Moreover, I am not saying you can't believe in astrology, tarot, and just spirituality in general. What I am saying it is cognitive dissonance when identifying as an atheist while having those beliefs. You can't be both, you can't be both an orange and an apple.

Cinema Yap Session- Movie recommendation and analysis
In wake of Black History Month, there's a film I want to put on yalls radar to watch! It is called "The Watermelon Woman" (1996) directed by Cheryl Dunye. Words cannot express how much I love this film and how real it is to the black sapphic/lesbian experience. It's a slice-of-life comedy that's in a documentary style that blends fiction and real life together to explore Black queer identity, representation in media, and the erasure of Black women from film history. In a short summary, the film follows Cheryl, a young Black lesbian filmmaker, who works at a video store while researching an obscure 1930s actress credited only as "The Watermelon Woman." As Cheryl investigates, she discovers the actress was Fae Richards, a Black performer who was confined to stereotypical roles and had a hidden romantic relationship with a white female director. The Watermelon Woman challenges the politics of normative heterosexuality by exposing how society polices and erases queer and black lives. The film actively resists this policing, creating a space where Black queer women can reclaim their own histories and identities. As a fellow black queer carpet muncher, it is important in Black History Month to celebrate and uplift all forms of blackness <3 ~
