How the Bros Are Celebrating the Fourth of July

Tatsuo ❤

Don't talk to him, he's too busy manning the grill.

Tasks Hajime with watching Nobu and Yuki and keeping them away from fireworks all day.

Being their fun uncle, Hajime eventually let's them light some themselves before Tatsuo has a panic attack and makes them sit inside until the food's done.

Kenta 💙

Spends the weeks leading up to the fourth driving between bordering states collecting a large assortment of various fireworks.

Prides himself on finding the coolest to bring.

Everybody comes to his house to set them off since he has the biggest back yard.

Unbeknownst to everyone else, he stayed up last night making water balloons.

Nobody's going home dry tonight.

Hiroki 💜

He spends the fourth the same way he spent the third. Getting drunk.

He did manage to actually hit up a fireworks stand this year and bought a bunch of those little Black Cats that pop when you throw them on the ground.

He spends most of the day throwing them at Hunk, and his niece and nephew.

He found Kenta's water balloon stash in the basement and gave them to Nobu and Yuki.

After dinner the war shall begin.

Spent all morning trying to wrestle a thunder shirt onto Mittens to help with her fireworks anxiety.

Always manages to find some sort of shameful patriotic clothing items to wear. Last year it was American flag nipple pasties, this year it was a tank top with red white and blue fireworks on it that says: "Wanna Bang?"

After being sentenced to sit inside by Tatsuo, Hajime hangs out the basement streaming cat videos with Mittens to distract her from all the noisy fireworks.

Nobu and Yuki told him about the water balloons, and their plans to double cross Hiroki.

Hunk 💛

He stayed up all night marinating meat and veggies for Tatsuo to grill.

He hangs out inside most of the morning, putting some of the finishing touches on the meals he made prior and eventually Nobu and Yuki come inside and help him.

They think they're slick because they snuck some deviled eggs while he wasn't looking, but he made extra just in case.

Hunk tasks them with setting the table and in the meantime, Tatsuo tasks him with keeping an eye on them so they don't end up drinking too much pop.

Hunk is among the few survivors of The Great Garrett Water Balloon Fight of 2019.

Tatsuo: “Did you get a haircut?” Hiroki: "No, I got them all cut.” Tatsuo: Why are you like this.

Happy Birthday Hunk! What do the bros (or the whole fam for that matter) do when someone's birthday rolls around? Big party? Party just amongst them? Cake in the face? Day of pranks? Nothing at all?

When the bros birthdays roll around in the Garrett family, they all like to get together with some food and music and kinda just hang out at whoever’s place. There’s already 7 of them (including their moms) so there’s no need to invite extra (non family) guests– it’s already a party! There’s always those same birthday staples, there’s gifts, and balloons, and cake, and candles, and cooking, and all that jazz– oh, and there’s birthday licks.  

A/N: Because it’s Hunk’s birthday we decided to do something a little special and answer this ask with a scenario! Enjoy!

It had been a long, tiring week as classes started up again: syllabuses, textbooks, essays– you name it and Hunk had dealt with it. But it all was leading up to this day. Hunk’s 20th birthday.

Hunk drove all the way home from campus, excited to finally hang with his family and see them all together in one place.

Hunk unlocks the front door, stepping inside to what almost seemed like the wrong house. It’s eerily empty– no music, no sounds of laughter and chatting, no smell of pani popo in the oven, or Tatsuo’s horrible cologne. Just emptiness.

“Mama, I’m home!” Hunk called out, but there was no response. He stepped inside, setting his backpack on the floor before kicking off his wet, snow covered boots. “Mom? Is anybody home?” He wondered where everyone could be.

It was his birthday!! The first Saturday birthday he’s had in years (11 years to be exact)– so its super special. He pulled off his coat, tossing it onto the coach when he hears a creak in the floor behind him. Before he can even turn around to inspect would could’ve caused the noise, he’s tackled to the floor, landing on his stomach with an “Oof!”

“He’s down I got em’!” Yelled Tatsuo as a crowd of feet approached him. “HEY!” Hunk laughed, looking up to see his brothers, mothers, niece and nephew, party toys and noise makers in hand. Tatsuo slid a cone shaped birthday hat on his head and started, “Happy birthday to you!” Soon everyone else joined in singing, “Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Hunk! Happy birthday to you!” They all cheered, blowing their noisemakers and clapping. “Thank you.”

Hunk wheezed, a smile across his face, “Hey Tots can you, uh, let me up?” Tatsuo just laughed, “Sorry Hunk, but you know what time it is.” Hunk glanced around, confused, until he saw Hajime and Kenta grinning mischievously. “OH WHAT– Right now?!” Hunk complained, “Nobu and Yuki get first licks.” Hiroki said, pushing the twins toward the floor ridden Hunk.

“Hi Hunkle!” “Hi Hunkle Unc.” They each spoke simultaneously, smiling down at him. “Hi Wonder Twins. You wouldn’t hit your favorite uncle would you?” He gave them a soft, pleading look before groaning as they each threw 20 soft, baby handed punches into his side– tickling him at most. “Aw that really hurt, but I still love you guys.” He chuckled, as they walked away. “We love you too, Hunk.” Tatsuo laughed, cracking his knuckles and pinning Hunk’s arms as the other three brothers approached.

“Count to 20.”

Anyyyyy chance we could get a routine/fact post for kenta?? 👀👀

Kenta, has always been a pretty wild guy, a big dreamer with a curiosity to match.

Growing up Kenta wasn’t afraid of taking risks and trying new things– behavior like that got him in a bit of trouble– but he’s mellowed out significantly since then. Some of his behavior was just rebelling against being compared to Tatsuo, his more responsible, trustworthy, older brother, most of it was out of pure curiosity and reason his post-pubescent mind couldn’t even begin to explain.

He’s gone and seen parts of the world that many of his family could never imagine and has a great love for others– his family most importantly. 

Kenta’s Routine + Facts

In Season / Out of Season / Both

Wakes up somewhere between 5 and 6 am, has a protein shake, works out/wakes up between 7 and 9, works out for about and hour and a half

Showers and eats breakfast, has a cup of iced coffee

(he only drinks iced coffee.)

Checks his emails, calls/talks to his manager, reviews his calendar/goes over his schedule

If he’s travelling, he might go sight seeing before any meetings, work, matches he might have

If he’s home, he’ll visit his moms or Hajime

Records vlogs, usually posts them 2 weeks later/ records vlogs on Mondays, posts them Fridays

If he’s in town he’ll go to Nobu and Yuki’s beginner judo competitions.

He’s been known to drive over to Hunk’s dorm and sneak up and scare him after he gets out of classes. Usually they go play video games afterward.

Kenta sometimes brings Nobu and Yuki to the grocery store with him. His favorite part is letting them pretend steer the cart from the front of the toy car attached to the front.

If they behave he lets them pick out a piece of candy to buy.

Staring Contest

Warnings: Some Adult Humor, Cursing, Punny Outkast - “Hey Ya” References

Mama Masina stepped away from dinner for a moment and was shocked to find that the dining room was suddenly quiet.

A quiet dinner in a home full of boys? Not possible.

She entered to find all her sons sitting quietly, motionless, glaring at each other intensely.

"What's going on?"

There was a brief silence before anyone finally spoke, worried it'd break their concentration.

Hunk was the first to go, groaning as he slumped back in his chair.

"We're having a staring contest to see who gets the last piece of pani popo, mama."

That's when she recognized the bun sitting alone in the middle of the table, untouched.

"Let Tatsuo take it home. Nobu and Yuki love their Baba's pani popo."

Hearing his name made Tatsuo snap, blinking his eyes momentarily from Hajime's gaze.

"Damn!" He banged his fist on the table, rattling the metal silverware against the surface.

"No. We already know Tatsuo would just eat it on the way home." Hunk laughed.

Tatsuo slouched forward, before excusing himself from the table, carrying his plate and glass to the kitchen.

"He's right. Plus, Nobu and Yuki hate sharing food."

"So they're at that age now huh?" Tatsuo approached, hunching over and stretching his arms around Mama Masina's shoulders, pulling her into a tender hug.

"They used to eat cookies out each other’s diapers as toddlers, now they can't even handle the other one touching them too long."

"Aw that sounds like some brothers I know, she glanced lovingly over at Hiroki and Hajime who were leering at each other.

Hajime made a low, lingering hum as he bit his lips, eyes twitching but Hiroki held strong, face unmoving.

"Oh--Haha's gonna crack!" Hunk cheered. Hajime tugged on his eyelids in a last ditch effort, but ultimately ended up blinking. "Fuck!" He shouted.

"Language!" Hunk laughed. "You're a monster, dude." Hajime quipped.

"I bet he sleeps with his eyes open." Tatsuo added upon returning.

And then there were two.

Everybody watched intensely as Kenta and Hiroki, lifelong rivals, glared at each other intensely.

This was like second nature to the two bros that didn't really tolerate each other.

Hajime held his spoon up to his mouth as a faux microphone.

"Hiroki's resting bitch face has gotten him this far-- but can Kenta's appetite bring him the win?"

Kenta spoke, catching all of the eliminated by surprise.

"I'm not even hungry. I just don't want this guy to have it."

Hunk grabbed his spoon and dramatically announced onto it. "Ooh. Ice cold."

Hajime shimmied as he chanted in an increasingly louder whisper. "Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright."

The whole room burst into laughter and Kenta bit his cheek, trying to quell the laugh within him before a giggle slipped out, then he was squeezing his eyes shut, bursting into laughter as everyone cheered and applauded.

"I'm gonna-- fuckin kill you, Haha." He laughed, overtaken by a fit of giggles as he reached over and fisted his brother's t shirt.

Hiroki stood triumphantly, grabbing the coco bun from the foil pan in the center of the table and cramming it into his mouth.

"How can you even fit that in your mouth, Hiroki?" Tatsuo ogled at the man, chomping down on the sweet coconutey prize.

"The same reason the knees of his pants are always rubbed out..." Hajime muttered, loud enough for Kenta, Hiroki, and Hunk to hear which sent Hiroki out of his seat, laughing as he clenched his too full stomach. Instead of beating the smaller man he settled for discreetly flipping him the bird instead.

"You boys stop playing around while he’s eating. Hiroki’s too tall for me to give him the Heimlich maneuver." Mama Masina scolded.

Hiroki cleared his throat, sliding back into his chair as the room of men echoed. "Sorry, mama."
