In defense of goodbye was going to be an mcu Peter Parker origin story that focused on Ben's death and the fallout. Since then I've read a couple of fics that do a similar thing, and the itch has been partially scratched. But there are still some darlings in there that I hope to resurrect one day.

Halloween 😌 (I'm normal)

Halloween is peterflash is the ghost you're dressed up as... and all I can say is that there are too many versions of the next chapter to give a good teaser, so here is an outtake from ch 2 (post-ffh, which I ended up skating over) instead:

His protests are useless, his prayers unanswered as the accusatory chorus begins to melt into giggles and blackmail, and Flash is using muscles in his face that he hasn’t in weeks and he is learning for the first time, half-awake and slightly delirious, the catharsis that is laughter in the hours after the world crashes down around you.  And he wishes— half awake, half delirious— that he could bottle it, this moment around a tiny hotel table before the rest of them have remembered that Flash Thompson is the type of person best enjoyed in small doses rather than always or often.  He wishes that he could bottle it but the half of him that is awake understands how embarrassing— how deeply humiliating— that wish is and so instead he just lets the warmth of the easy banter surrounding him seep into his skin and settle in his stomach, not the burn of words unspoken but of laughter uninhibited. It settles as he gathers the cards from their various spots all over the table, settles as he shuffles them back together, settles as he deals the remaining stack in his hands.  Seven cards each, face down.

This one is so fun to me personally,,, if only the horrors would cease...

“Oh, thank god,” MJ mutters, not looking up from the magazine she’s flipping through at the kitchen table. “You see him too.” Ned can barely hear her. Blood splatters against the wall of his mind, and it smells like chalk-white paint. A boy in a black suit cries into his grandmother’s shoulder in the backseat of an old Honda Civic. The Ned Leeds of twenty years old lets his backpack drop the rest of the way to the floor, and there are no Transformers on the back pocket.   “Hey kid,” greets Ben Parker, with a smile that doesn’t really reach his eyes. “Alright?”  There is a solid fifteen seconds of staring. Then— “Um,” Ned says. “What the fuck?”

“Don’t you have homework?!” He snaps. She’s in school now. She can’t be slacking off like that, there isn’t time for it. As quickly as the words fly out of his mouth, her face crumples and tears begin to flow. Her mouth wobbles and curves downwards. Her shoulders shake with audible sniffles but she doesn’t cry. She does her hardest to pretend that nothing’s wrong and Flash immediately sees the difference between himself and Peter Parker. “Mel, I–” He swallows. “I’m sorry.”

Peter feels his cheeks heat as he snaps his gaze up from her shoulder to her eyes. “No…sorry, I— The streaks of red in your hair, your…your daughter has the same ones. I just noticed, that’s all.”

“Oh.” She squints at him sceptically. “Are you about to tell me they’re against dress code policy?”

Peter thinks it’s bold of her to assume he’s read the dress code policy. “Um…I don’t think so.”

“Good. Because I wouldn’t really care anyway.”

“You know, I got that vibe from you.” Peter nods, smiling as she relaxes, breathing out a laugh. “Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot.” He offers her his outstretched hand. “Peter Parker.”

Her fingers close around his. “Michelle Jones-Watson.”
