I feel like the Harkness test should distinguish monsters from beasts. The talking dog's sentience grants it monsterdom enough so that fucking it is no longer beastiality.

But fucking an unintelligent dragon with the brain of the average skink is beastiality.

So none of your poll options feel right for me.

This is an interesting take, and I think you're hitting on one of the big nuances of what people might consider a monster. From my understanding, the Harkness test is mostly about checking for sentience and consent. It’s practically the same checklist researchers use to make sure participant consent is ethically gathered. But, like, it doesn’t really dive into whether something counts as a monster or not.

Take the talking dog example: sure, it might pass the Harkness test because it’s sentient, but does that make it a monster? In my opinion, it’s just a dog with a specific skill. Honestly, this is a good example of how subjective the whole “what counts as a monster” thing is. Everyone draws the line differently, and what feels like a monster to one person might not to another.

Back when I was presenting my thesis proposal, one of the visiting academics commented, "The Harkness test sounds like something someone made up to make themselves feel better about committing beastiality." This sparked an academic debate: whether people's attraction to monsters, particularly those that don’t look remotely human, are technically into animals? In other words, is monsterfucking a branch or form of beastiality?

I know where I stand, but I’m curious what y'all think.

For those unfamiliar, the Harkness Test refers to a hypothetical set of guidelines outlining when it would be acceptable to have sexual relations with a fictional, non-human creature. The criteria are: (1) Does this character have human-level intelligence (or greater)? (2) Can it communicate through language? (3) Is it of sexual maturity for its species?

Of course! In academia, embargoes are restrictions on access to specific works, lasting anywhere from a few months to several years. Common uses include protecting sensitive data or encouraging more subscriptions to academic journals.

In my case, my thesis was placed under a 6-month embargo by my committee chair. Due to this, I can’t share any of my results without risking both the awarding of my master’s degree and the publication of my thesis. I'm trying to find a loophole around this but haven't had any luck yet. Hope that clears things up!

I've once again been placed in academic prison!!! My committee chairman has decided, without consulting me, that my thesis will be put on a 6-month embargo. Basically I'm unable to share any of my results for 6 months following the university readers' approval.

On the bright side, I'm going to use this time to my advantage by seeing if I can break my thesis into multiple articles and get them published in academic journals.

Also, @monstrousdesirestudy and I are already hard at work on a follow-up study, so stay tuned for more updates.

After a million years, I finally have an update on when I can release my data to the public! Although I'm still being held hostage, my soft release date is the end of November.

My defense has been confirmed for next week. The paper will be submitted the week after and once the university accepts it, I'll be free to bombard you all with monster fucker data.

Let's hope my advisor doesn't change her mind and postpone my release again.

Monster Attraction Study - Participants Needed
