What if Javi didn’t leave the military entirely, instead coming off Active Duty and going into the Reserves. After the events of the movie Storm Par is disbanded and Javi didn’t really have anything lined up, so he made the decision that he would return to Active Duty. He breaks the news to Kate and the Tornado Wranglers who are all shocked and honestly pretty disappointed he didn’t want to stay with them. Javi had always felt like a bit of an outsider so he never knew they wanted him to stay and Kate is obviously beyond devastated.

Kate asks him to give them one week to convince him to stay, but Javi isn’t sure. She brings up how she had agreed to help him with Storm Par for one week, so it was only fair that he gave her one week now in return. Cue a week of Tornado Wranglers & Javi bonding with plenty of angst and hurt/comfort and feelings.

The Tornado Tamers (aka Kate, Jeb, Addy, Praveen, and Javi) definitely all dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz for Halloween one year in college for some costume contest or something. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before at a school located in Oklahoma that is known for their meteorology program, but they just executed it so well. Like they’re not just cheap costumes they bought at some Halloween store, they’re some sort of DIY but executed in such a way that it incredibly unique.

Dorothy = Kate

This makes sense for obvious reasons, but if you need more proof here’s a quote from the director:

“I always felt like Kate’s story is a bit like Dorothy,” Chung explained. “She’s affected by this tornado, this thing that happens and that she’s transported, and she meets all kinds of crazy people like Tyler, and ultimately, she finds her way back home.”

Scarecrow = Addy

There’s something about the stripes on her shirt and her blonde hair that just screams Scarecrow to me. The Scarecrow represents intelligence, a good parallel to Addy in my opinion. Additionally, Scarecrow is a pretty outgoing character I think, very animated and excitable which definitely fits.

Tin Man = Jeb

In the Wizard of Oz, the Tin Man wants a heart. Tin Man symbolizes compassion, which Jeb has tons of as we see in the movie. He’s compassionate towards all the other members of the Tornado Tamers and especially towards Kate of course. I think it matches him really well because I like to think he’s into the storm chasing because of his friends, not necessarily for the scientific data aspect.

Lion = Javi

Lion fits Javi for a number of reasons, one of which definitely is because he drove the vehicle with the designation Lion within Storm Par. The Lion represents courage, and from what I saw Javi definitely showed courage in the movie. Throughout the movie he’s kind of got a similar storyline as the Lion with how he eventually gets the courage to ditch Scott and Riggs.

Wizard = Praveen

So this one’s a little odd, but Praveen gives me the vibes that he’d much rather hang behind the metaphorical curtain of the Tornado Tamers, much like how the Wizard hides behind his curtain. He’s a touch camera shy, but very powerful when it comes to data analysis, running models, and all things digital. The rest of the crew jokingly call him a computer god with how good he is, hence him being “the Great and Powerful Oz.”

Communication is so important to Javi, like Storm PAR jokingly calls him a helicopter dad because he has this almost-constant need to know where every person is at every moment in time (and maybe because he dabbled with helicopters in the military). Like every truck and most other pieces of their equipment have their own trackers connected to an app on their phones. And then before they separate for the night they have a brief meeting to go over the game plan for the next day, and then he’ll send a follow up text before going to bed that summarizes that discussion.

Javi also made sure that every member of his crew had wireless ear pieces to ensure that they stayed in constant communication with one another. It didn’t matter if you were in the same vehicle as someone else, it was a rule that every person must have their own in case anyone was separated. This meant when they inevitably leave the confines of their vehicles to deploy the radar equipment (or to seek shelter) they could still communicate.

A lot of storm chasers don’t just go after tornados. In fact, a large amount of them also go after hurricanes. Kate and Tyler are hands down the tornado-whisperers, but what if Javi’s specialty is hurricanes?

The military deals a lot more with hurricanes than they do tornados, and given that more military bases are at the mercy of hurricanes, it makes sense that Javi would have spent more time with them. But maybe the Tornado Wanglers hadn’t branched out into hurricanes before.

Maybe they notice Javi missing from the parking lot party and find him sitting on the bed of a motel room with the tv on a weather channel covering this massive hurricane headed towards the east coast, phone on speaker as he talks to an old military buddy while he’s looking over data and models on his laptop.

We know Javi was in the military and according to the fandom wiki he was in the US Army. I personally can’t remember what he said in the movie, but there really isn’t a whole lot of meteorological roles in the Army as they work closely with the Air Force to get their weather information. Realistically speaking, Javi was likely a USAF Weather Officer.

But what if Javi wasn’t just a Weather Officer, what if he was a Grey Beret?

Grey Berets are Special Operations Weather Technicians(SOWT) of the Air Force Special Operations Command. SOWT’s would typically deploy with Army Special Ops forces because the US Army didn't have people who specialized in weather. They are heavily integrated into the squadron, which could be used to explain why he said he was in the US Army.

Note: I’m not saying he was, but it would make for some really cool fanfics.

Grey Berets are Special Operations Weather Technicians(SOWT) of the Air Force Special Operations Command. They go through a rigorous 2-year training pipeline which includes stuff like US Army Airborne school, Military Freefall school, SERE school, Underwater Egress training, Special Tactics training, and more.

Their primary objective is to collect and interpret meteorological data in hostile or denied environments and provide air and ground forces commanders with timely, accurate intelligence. They provide vital intelligence and deploy with joint air and ground forces in support of direct action, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, humanitarian assistance, special reconnaissance, austere airfield, and combat search and rescue. SOWTs are able to analyze the clouds and determine what flight level an A-10 would be able to fly to get below the clouds. They can hear how many times the crickets chirp and be able to tell you when the dogs fog will be rolling in, they use knowledge of sandstorms and bad weather to time their attacks, etc. (source)

Kate and Javi and their team loved those storm chaser parking lot parties. Javi would play his guitar and Addie would leap to her feet, dragging Kate along with her. Jeb was easily persuaded by Kate and it was only a matter of time before they convinced a reluctant Praveen to join them. They would sing and dance and laugh well into the night.

Javi hadn’t picked up his guitar since their last night together, fearing that the notes, too, would be carried away by the wind.

I recently learned about Anthony’s inflatable cow he named Nancy and now I need Javi having a pet miniature cow named Nancy.

Javi doesn’t wear his dog tags now that he’s out of the military, but he makes sure to slip them on before he goes storm chasing so that they would be able to ID him if he were gets swept away by a tornado. He does so discretely, making sure the tags stay tucked underneath his shirt because if Kate saw them she’d immediately know.

Ok but Anthony Ramos in Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019) makes for decent imagery of Javi in the military…
