Hey, I am alive and well.
A few months ago my notebook decided to quit and I lost all my data, including pretty much every written piece of the last three years. I’ve never mentioned it but I’ve written a lot and I mean a lot more than this blog showcases and not just Haikyuu or fanfiction stuff but also original short stories that meant a lot to me personally and I even started writing a book. Needless to say, I was beyond sad that everything was gone and I couldn’t bring myself to write anything. I just felt upset whenever I thought about it, so I avoided it for some time. Now, I am sure you are more curious about the lost Haikyuu pieces than my emotional drama.
It took me a long time to decide but I will rewrite everything that has been lost and kind of been promised on this blog (The soulmate game, Of pens and papers, the other series that’s great too but which name I’ve forgotten and writings you didn’t even know about).
I hate rewriting stuff because even though I remember most of the plot lines I can’t write it the exact same way. Like there will be phrases and sentiments that are forever lost and that I have to replace and that is just sad to me.
But at the same time, I liked what I’ve written so much that I don’t want it to be forever gone, so here I am. I haven’t started the writing process yet but I am going to. I can’t promise when the first piece will be uploaded, only that it will be uploaded at some point.
I go on vacation next week (camping to be more exact), so I am not sure how much I get done within the next 1,5 weeks but after that I’ve got a lot of times on my hand, so chances a good I drop something around that time.
I also don’t know with what series I am going to start rewriting. I might do one series first and after that the others or maybe I will write one part of a series and another of a different one. I also might write some entirely new stuff in between to keep myself motivated.
I don’t know yet. Also, I’ve seen that some of you left requests for me. I’ve read them and while I am sure that most of the people who requested have moved on from this blog, I might consider writing them still.
That’s it for today. To those who are still reading this way too long update, thank you.
See you guys and have a nice day!

Of pens and papers - Bokuto x Reader (pt.Three)
Pairing: Bokuto x reader
Wordcount: ca. 1900 words
Genre: fluff, future angst, college Au
Summary: Sometimes you are lucky enough to meet the right people at the right time. You meet up to study and you even cook for him.
Parts: One Two Three
A/N: I actually planned to post soemthing else but deicded to give you a double update, so hopefully you can enjoy two parts of The Soulamte Games this Sunday. One part will definetly be realised and this series will be updated next week!
To your surprise Bokuto texted you the same day you exchanged numbers and the first few days it wasn’t even about studying. He texted you memes he thought were funny, he asked you about your day, he told you about his friends and how “mean” they apparently could be because they didn´t want to believe you were real but still nice enough that you should swing by the gym someday to meet them and he even texted you good morning and good night.
You were a little overwhelmed to say the least. You knew that the ace was extroverted and in a way you expected that he would text you randomly but you didn’t expect him to constantly text you randomly, if that made any sense.
It wasn’t like you minded it. It was actually nice to wake up to a good morning or text while sitting in class.
You both were a bit busy lately, so you only saw each other in that one class you shared. He even kept true to his word and came regularly now that he knew you were also in that class.
Even though you didn’t see each other that much, you still felt your friendship grew exponentially fast since the two of you made up for the lack of meeting up by texting.
You probably shouldn’t be surprised that you started to crush on him. You wanted to deny it but your friends ruined that when they pointed out that you grinned like an idiot whenever he texted you and that you were disappointed when someone else dared to text you.
Maybe it showed due to the amount of time he spent texting you but he also started to really like you. He always thought you were cute but now that he got to know you and your quirks and likes he felt warm just thinking about you, something he did a lot lately.
He just liked the little things. You were shy but so kind and good-natured. You were smart and hardworking. You loved animals, especially cute puppies and kittens never failed to make you smile. You were scared of spiders but didn´t mind bugs. You listened to music whenever you could and you most definetly were a night owl, which ended up to be your new name in his phone.
He really liked you and he hoped that you liked him too.
-
After about three weeks you finally decided to meet up to study since the exam for that one class creeped dangerously close and Bokuto still had a lot work to do.
When he asked you to meet up, you didn’t hesitate to invite him to come over to your small apartment. You disliked tutoring at the library because some people could be very sensitive about noise, and you knew that Bokuto had two roommates. While you didn’t know them personally, you knew enough that you knew that it would be too distracting to get anything done.
And just maybe, you were a bit too nervous about meeting his close friends. You weren’t exactly in a relationship, but you still felt the need to make a good first impression and you weren’t ready for that much stress.
Bokuto immediately accepted.
That´s how you ended up cleaning your apartment like you were possessed at 9 AM. It wasn’t like you were the messiest person but you definitely weren´t the cleanest as well.
Soon enough your door bell rang and you skipped to your door, being in a surprisingly good mood considering that you planned on studying all day.
You threw your door open and there he stood. He wore a hoodie and a pair of shorts, nothing special really but to you, he still looked extremely handsome at that moment.
“Hi” you greeted with a bright smile.
“Hey! Did you sleep well?” he asked as he stepped into your apartment and took off his shoes.
“Pretty good, actually” you lied. You didn’t, you were too excited to meet up with him but he didn’t need to know that.
“Those tell a different story” you were surprised when he reached out with one hand and brushed his thump over the dark shadow under your right eye.
It wasn’t even a second that his skin made contact with yours, but it was enough to throw you off.
“Well, I guess, you caught me. I studied until late at night again. I promise I will get a good sleep tonight though” your hand tucked at the hem of your shirt as you explained yourself.
“You should! How is your brain supposed to remember all the stuff you feed it when you don’t get enough rest” he playfully ruffled your hair, which only deepened your blush, but the action definitely wasn’t unwelcome.
“I will let you know my brain is just fine with how things are” you scoffed, making your way into your apartment, expecting him to follow you wordlessly.
He did, looking around. A smile made it´s way on his face as he took in your surroundings. The apartment mirrored your personality so well. It wasn’t much. Just a one-room apartment but the way you decorated it made it feel very homy and just so you.
He liked it a lot.
“Your place is so cute; it definitely reminds me of you” he didn’t hesitate to put his thoughts into words. You sheepishly looked over to him as you took a seat on your floor´s rug. Your desk only had space for one person and you weren´t sure if he would be comfortable with sitting on your bed, so you decided to go for the floor.
Without any complains he followed your example and plopped down beside you.
“You ready for some studying?” You raised an eyebrow at his enthusiasm but didn’t question it. The better his mood, the easier it would be to explain him all this stuff.
“I guess” you replied not matching his happy mood, but you definitely felt content with having him with you.
-
You soon enough realized that it wasn’t as easy to teach him material that was supposed to be remembered over an entire semester. He wasn’t stupid at all but it was hard to keep his attention on what was important right now.
And why you chose that specific color for your curtains didn´t count to the important things, even if Bokuto said otherwise.
“I am hungry” he whined after a few hours of studying, falling back on his back while stretching out his limps. As much as you wanted to remind him that you still had a lot of work to do, you were hungry yourself, so you decided that a break was needed.
"How about I cook something for us?” You suggested also leaning back on your arms as you looked over to the volleyball player for a reaction.
“You would cook for me?” His energy returned at that, sitting up immediately and pretty much throwing his arms up in glee. Your eyes widened at that and you silently questioned when was the last time anyone cooked for him.
“That would be awesome! We only ever eat ramen or random fast food at home because we all don’t know how to cook or are too lazy to do so” he pouted as he thought back to his shared dorm.
“Well, I am not the greatest chef, but I am sure I can make something better than fast food” you assured, standing up before making your way over to your kitchen that was down a small hallway.
“I can´t wait!” He cheered, following you into the kitchen “Can I help you?” You giggled at his eagerness.
“If you really want to help, you can cut the vegetables” you told him as you took said food out of the fridge.
“I can do that!” He replied and that’s how the two of you started cooking. You couldn’t remember the last time you cooked with one of your friends, so this felt really nice. It had a strangely domestic feeling as you both cooked while talking about pretty much everything that came to mind.
“I have to tell the guys. They will be so jealous that I get to eat cooked food and on top of that I get to enjoy it with a pretty girl” you almost let go of the spoon that you used to stir the vegetables with. He really had no filter, and it flustered you every time.
For a moment he didn’t say anything as he was presumingly busy texting his friends. A minute or so later he startled you once more by suddenly appearing right beside you, pretty much throwing his arm around your shoulder.
“They don’t believe you or the food is real. Lets send them a picture to proof it!” He grinned, pulling you into his side. The first thing you noticed was how well you fitted right under his arm and the second thing was how warm the male was.
You automatically felt comfortable but that didn’t mean you werent a bit confused by the situation.
“Why don’t you send a picture of the food?” You suggested as he obviously tried to go for a selfie.
“No! I want them to be real jealous and to stop acting like I´m making you up. You really have to meet the guys soon” before you could reply anything he already held his phone in front of your faces and without waiting for you to be ready he took a picture.
“Hey!” You huffed when it was over so fast “I didn’t even smile” you complained.
“You always look good, just wait” he assured as he pulled the picture up. You stared at it and werent sure what to think.
Bokuto flashed his typical bright smile in the camera and looked as good as ever. You on the other hand looked confused. Tucked under his arm and right in his side you had your face slightly turned to the male since you had tried to talk him out of taking a picture with you.
“See? That picture is great” he grinned and already went ahead and sent it to his friends. “I really like it. Our first picture together” he grinned down at you and the way he worded this made your heart skip a beat.
“I don’t know, next time at least give me time to smile” you pointed out before realizing that you were still hugged by him. He apparently also seemed to finally notice how close you were and took a step back with a small blush adorning his cheeks. He once more acted before thinking.
You turned your attention to the food which was pretty much ready.
His flustered state also didn’t last too long as he finally got an answer.
Kuroo: I can´t believe she is real
Kuroo: and can cook
Kuroo: and is pretty
Kuroo: I am kinda jealous, you lucky bastard
He proudly helt the phone in front of your face, letting you read the text of his friend, Kuroo.
“Well, I am glad you were able to outdo your friends” you snickered, picking up two plates.
A few minutes later the two of you were sitting in your living room / bedroom enjoying your newly cooked food.
“You are really good at cooking! This tastes amazing! We have to do this more often” Bokuto claimed.
“I wouldn’t mind that”

Of pens and papers - Bokuto x Reader (pt.Two)
Pairing: Bokuto x reader
Wordcount: ca. 2200 words
Genre: fluff, future angst, college Au
Summary: Sometimes you are lucky enough to meet the right people at the right time. This is how you met once more and he finally remebered to ask for your name!
Parts: One Two Three
A/N: Sorry for the wait but the series should now continue regularly.
Bokuto Kotaro.
That was the name of the boy who helped you out at the library a few days ago and ever since you couldn’t forget about him.
You were so thankful that his friend actually called out his name or else you wouldn’t have known how to find out about him.
You didn’t want to come off as a stalker, but you guiltily had to admit that you already checked social media and to your delight you had found him rather easily.
You had been right thinking that he was an athlete. He was in the volleyball team of your university and considering everything you´ve read about him, he was good at what he was doing.
His Instagram wasn´t private, pretty much inviting you to go through his feed and you weren’t disappointed. His feed was full of pictures with his friends and volleyball. He always smiled in the pictures.
He seemed like such a fun and good-spirited guy.
He told you that he would like to see you again, yet he didn’t even know your name or asked for your number. You considered texting him on Instagram, but you were not brave enough to actually do it. Maybe he was just being nice when he said he wanted to see you again.
So, you did what you did best: you daydreamed about a what if instead of actually doing something.
-
You sat down at an available seat in the middle of the lecture room, music still sounding through your earphones, effectively cutting you off from your surroundings.
You were tired. That was probably what described you best right at that moment. Exams closed in on you and you had the habit to sleep especially unwell within those weeks, be it due to actually studying or just stressing about what you actually needed to know but didn’t.
On some days you weren’t too bothered by your lack of sleep but today wasn’t one of those days. That also explained why you didn’t look as put together as usually. Your hair was in a bun, your bangs were a bit more messed up than usually and your body drowned in that overly huge hoodie and oversized sweatpants.
It wasn’t like there was a reason to put effort into your outfit, at least you thought so.
Your cheek leaned against your hand as your eyes were closed. You concentrated on your music, trying to find a moment of peace. The attempt failed when you suddenly felt someone touch your shoulder.
Easily startled, you immediately straightened up before turning around. Your eyes widened at what you saw. Sitting one row behind you was the cute volleyball player.
His golden eyes also widened as recognition settled in.
His grin grew, and he almost looked a bit too happy considering that you two weren’t even friends.
“Hey, hey, hey! If that isn’t the short library girl” he teased, his voice was just as booming as ever, earning you a few looks of your classmates.
“What are you doing here?” It came out a lot more shocked than it was supposed to, but you couldn’t help it. It was almost the end of the semester, and you hadn’t seen him here once! Bukoto wasn’t exactly the type of guy to mix with the crowd, so how did you miss him all this time?
“Oh, yeah, I´ve only visited this class a few times because I am usually getting something to eat with my friends before training at this time. Akaashi always scolds me because of it but I am sure I´ll be fine” you didn’t know him well but somehow this explanation seemed so like him, you couldn’t even explain it yourself.
“But if I knew you were in this class as well, I would have made more of an effort to come here!” He exclaimed happily.
Was he flirting with you? You weren’t sure.
For a few seconds you just stared at him. His golden eyes made eye contact with your (e/c) ones before they seemed to travel down your figure, taking in your outfit.
A small blush started to form at that action, mostly because you knew that you didn’t look presentable.
Unbeknowst to you, he didn´t mind your look. He actually thought it looked cute the way your hoodie seemed at least two sizes too big and there was something so naturally attractive about the way your face was framed by the few strands of hair that didn´t want to stay in your bun. If anything it was endearing to see different sides of you.
He still wasn´t blind to the obvious dark shadows under your eyes that could only mean that you lacked sleep. He knew it wasn´t his business how much sleep you got but he couldn´t hold back from at least asking about it.
“You look a bit tired, rough week?” It asked bluntly, eyes still fixed on the dark shadows under your eyes.
“Well, exams are coming up. Who isn´t tired?” You tried to justify yourself, almost wanting to tell him that you usually didn’t look so done but that would have been too weird, even for you. You just hoped he remembered the you from the library that looked a lot cuter than your present self.
“Yeah, I hate it. I still have so much to study. It´s so annoying” he openly complained, and you weren’t surprised. You didn’t want to judge but he didn’t seem like the studious type to you.
“I´ve already studied so much but it feels like a never-ending circle” you agreed with a small sigh.
“Just try to get enough sleep and drink and eat a lot!” he made it sound so easy and even he knew that it wasn´t but he could at least hope that his words would make you get a bit more sleep.
When you looked into his face, at this bright smiled and sparkling eyes you almost wanted to promise him but you knew that it wasn’t as easy when you were completely stressed out.
“Will do!” A smile settled on your face when you said that. This was only small talk and you were pretty sure he wasn’t interested at hearing you ramble about how easily it was to lose yourself between studying, classes and your part-time job.
The conversation dwindled after that and you were worried that it would end here.
“By the way, I am not exactly short. That shelf was high. Maybe you are a little too tall” it was probably strange to go back to the beginning of the conversation, but you weren’t exactly known for your conversation skills. Maybe you didn’t need to worry so much because you still didn’t know why he spoke to you to begin with since he seemingly didn’t recognize you beforehand.
“Can someone really be too tall? If anything, I would be an even better player if I was a bit taller” he mused as his mind went straight back to volleyball.
“I guess, it´s helpful for volleyball” you mumbled under your breath, not thinking that he would hear you, but he did, considering the confused look he was giving you. The way he cocked his head to the side made him look cute.
“Did you just say volleyball? You know me?!” His excitement went through the roof as the emotion mixed with pride. He always thought that he looked the coolest on the court, so maybe you were already a fan of his.
He made it so easy for you to hide the fact that you looked him up online. All you had to do was telling him that you had seen in a volleyball game or that you were at least aware of the volleyball team, and you had recognized him.
Instead, you went in panic mode and made it awkward.
“I don’t! I guessed it! Volleyball, basketball… those are sports at which height is important and you look like an athlete” you stumbled over your own words as you tried to explain.
“And how did you guess that I am a volleyball player?” Bokuto asked once more, slight disappointment could be heard in his voice.
“Intuition?” It sounded more like a question than a statement but luckily, he didn’t have time to make fun of you because of your answer thanks to the fact that your professor finally walked through the door, making you turn around to face the front of the class.
That seemed to remind Bokuto of something as he immediately reached out to you once more. Apparently, this time he chose to slightly pull at the hood of your sweater.
“I almost forgot because I didn’t expect to see you here but can I have a pencil or something? I forgot mine” he admitted almost sheepishly.
“You´re lucky I´ve always got an extra one, here” without hesitation you grabbed your second pen and held it out for the male to grab.
As he grabbed the pen his fingers slightly touched yours. You didn’t want to be all cliche, but you swore you felt something when his fingers brushed yours. For a moment you made eye contact with the white and black haired male who didn’t seem to mind the contact at all. You on the other hand blushed, which was why you turned around before he could spot the change of color on your face.
-
When your class finally ended you took your time to put away your stuff in hopes that Bokuto would talk to you once more. You knew you could just start a conversation and he wouldn’t mind, considering how nice he was but you couldn’t just throw away your shy nature.
Luckily, he didn’t leave you hanging this time.
“I almost forgot to ask again but what’s your name?” You looked up from your bag and over to Bokuto who was already ready to go and now stood by your side.
Your heart skipped a beat at the mention that he almost forgot again, meaning that he already wanted to ask the first time you met.
“It´s Y/L Y/N” you pronounced your name with a small smile.
“Y/N” he tested it out and you swore it never sounded better.
"I´m Bokuto Kotaro!" he told you as if you didnt know. Well, he truly didn´t know that you knew.
“So now that we are practically friends how about we study together?” The tall male suggested, and something told you it had to do with the fact that he practically never visited this class and had no clue what’s going on.
Luckily his endearing personality made up for that.
“Well, why not? Want to meet up sometime?” You gulped, feeling a little too giddy. You had to remind yourself that this wasn’t a date. He just wanted to study but your heart didn’t seem to listen.
“We can exchange phone numbers and text each other when we have time” Bokuto spoke excitedly, already fishing for his phone in his pockets.
You nodded, also pulling out your phone. Without thinking you unlocked it right in front of the male and what greeted you almost gave you an heart attack or at least you wished you had one.
Your Instagram was open and of course it was Bokuto´s page that was proudly displayed. You forgot that your friend pestered you about him just before this class, so you decided to show her some pictures from his Insta.
The color of your face turned into a deep red. Bokuto looked confused as he was connecting the dots. As fast as possible you swiped your finger over the display in order to close the app. Acting as if nothing happened, or at least you tried to – your hands were still shaking – you opened your contacts and held your phone out to the ace.
You didn’t dare look up to see his reaction as you drowned in your own embarrassment.
Bokuto was enlightened though. It took him a moment to remember that Akaashi called out his name, so that was probably how you got it but it must have been a good sign that you looked him up. You must have been interested in him, at least a little.
“So, you purely guessed that I play volleyball, right?” He teased you with a smirk on his face. You gulped once more, wishing the floor would swallow you.
“Can we act like you didn’t see that?” Your voice came out a lot more timid than you intended to.
“Not gonna happen, I have to tell my friends about that! They will be so jealous!” That didn’t make you feel better but the bright laugh that followed somehow eased your nerves.
At least you had his number now.

When you tell him you used to have a crush on him (pt.Two) (Atsumu ver.)
Pairing: Atsumu x reader
Wordcount: about 5300 (wtf thats even more than last time)
Genre: fluff
Part One: Atsumu
Other Versions: Kuroo Oikawa
A/N: Here it is! I hope you enjoy it because i am not 100% happy with it. I haven´t edited it yet, so bear with the mistakes. Btw, I know that he probably didnt play for the MSBY after a few months after high school but I wrote this when I was pretty tired and forgot that this is before the timeskip. I don´t mention Hinata though because he is still in school at that time. So there is a bit logic in this illogical mess lol.
Within the next few days you left Japan to start studying at an university in (c/n)
You weren’t as excited as before though since it felt like that conversation with Atsumu about your feelings changed something
It hurt. In your mind Atsumu must have been extremely uncomfortable with the thought of you being anything more than a friend. There wasn’t another way you could explain why he was suddenly pulling away.
In truth, Atsumu was overwhelmed with his own emotions. He felt lost and helpless. On one hand, the girl of his dreams confessed to him and on the other hand those feelings were in the past because you thought he wasn’t interested in a serious relationship
He knew he still should have enjoyed those last few days with you, but he couldn’t bring himself to forget those words and act normal around you. Instead, whenever he saw you, he was reminded of his lose and couldn’t help but act distant
So, he let you go that day
It´s been six months since then and somehow your friendship started to normalize again
Maybe it was the physical distance but the two of you would soon bicker just like before
You haven’t seen each other within those six months but that would change soon: Atsumu was actually going to (c/n) because he and his team had a game there
Both of you were happy and nervous at the same time
Atsumu looked out of the window, music buzzing in his ears due to his earphones. His eyes focused on the soft looking clouds that passed by the plane he was sitting in.
He knew that his thoughts should be occupied by the upcoming game but instead it was you who he was thinking of and if that wasn’t enough, it was a specific moment that he couldn’t get out of his head that had happened when he has last seen you in person.
The day has finally come on which you would go abroad to (c/n) to study and hopefully figure out what exactly you wanted to do in life.
You were packed with nerves. This was a big step, after all. All you´ve ever known was the warmth of your parent’s home and the company of your friends but right now you were about to step out of the nest and into the wide world.
And you would have to take that step on your own.
You arrived at the airport, and it wasn’t that much time left until you would have to step through that gate. It helped that you weren’t on your own yet.
As of right now Suna, Osamu and Atsumu were with you, and you were in the middle of saying your goodbyes.
“I promise the first thing I am going to do when coming back to Japan is visiting your restaurant” you told Osamu as you gave him a hug. He let out a low chuckle.
“Ya are just about to leave. Maybe ya shouldn´t talk about coming back so soon” he teased you with a grin on his face.
“You might be onto something” you admitted, as you pulled back, giving him another smile before your eyes shifted over to Suna, who looked as uninterested as ever, but you knew he would miss you deep down.
You actually got emotional as you stared at the male that was by your side since elementary school. Without saying a word, you hugged your best friend tightly, hiding your face in his shoulder just in case you would cry.
“Idiot, stop being a baby” he huffed, putting one hand around you while the other came up to your hair to softly pet you. You knew before you even arrived that you would become emotional about this.
“Stop acting like you aren´t upset. I can´t believe we won´t see each other for an entire year” you sighed as you tightened your grip anxiously.
“Stupid, obviously I am going to come visit you. That is if you get a grip on yourself. Don´t wanna visit, if all you are going to do is cry” he slightly pulled back to give you a pointed look. You chuckled, bringing one hand to your face in order to get rid of the tears that gathered in your eyes.
“Then I better stop” you squeezed him one more time, knowing that this was his way to comfort you. Shortly after, you moved on to the last person who patiently waited for your attention.
“Hey” you said lamely as you stepped in front of the taller male who was already gazing down at you.
“Hi” he replied with a light snicker in his voice.
“So, I guess that’s it?” You honestly didn’t know what to say. You knew you would miss Atsumu horribly and considering how strange you acted around one another within the last few days, you felt even more uneasy to just up and leave.
What if your friendship would change for good?
Unbeknownst to you, Atsumu had the exact same worries. He spent the last few days thinking about a what if as well as if he should say something now or if the timing was so bad that he better waited for you to come back.
Well, that was, if you didn’t find yourself a boyfriend within the next year.
“Come on, don´t act like we won´t see each other again. I am yer best friend, aren’t I?” His eyes shifted over to Suna who watched the exchange. The black-haired male rolled his eyes at Atsumu´s statement. By now, he was used to Atsumu trying to claim the spot as your best friend, even though both males knew that he wanted to aim for way more, “It´s my duty to facetime you every day to make sure ya don´t get yer pretty face in trouble” he teased, playfully ruffling your hair.
You glared at him and shoved his hand away.
“Stop it, Tsumu. I will look like a mess anyway after being on a plane ride for hours. I don’t need you to enhance my ugliness before it even started” you scolded him, but you were secretly glad that he was back to acting normal again.
“Maybe that’s my plan to make sure all those freaky boys keep their hands to themselves” he smirked at you, but you only shock your head.
“You are unbelievable” you grinned at him, unknowingly making his heartbeat speed up.
“Well, what can I say. I am a posse-“ his joke was interrupted by Osamu who stepped beside you.
“While I would love to see the two of ya continue to flirt, I have to tell ya that it´s time” Osamu reminded you to which your eyes flickered down to the smartwatch around your wrist. He was right.
“Well, I guess I will be going then. I will miss you guys so much. Try to stay out of trouble as long as I am gone, okay?” You smiled at all three of them as you slowly took steps back.
“Shouldn’t I be the one saying that?” Suna raised an eyebrow.
“Not sure if that’s possible if ya are related to that idiot” Osamu snickered.
“Can´t make any promises” Tsumu winked.
You really were going to miss them. You let out a laugh before raising your hand one last time to wave at them.
With one last look at your three friends, you turned around. Your heart felt heavy with every step you took. You needed to remind yourself that it would only be a year and then you would be back. Obviously, things would still be different from before but at least there wouldn’t be that much distance between you.
Atsumu couldn’t take his eyes off of you as you walked away and for a second a feeling of panic overwhelmed him. That second was enough to get him into motion. He didn’t even glance at his other friends as he left them behind to chase after you.
“Y/N!” You were surprised when you heard your name being shouted and before you could react you felt a hand on your wrist, turning you around to face the person.
“Tsumu?” You stared at him with wide eyes.
“Y/n, I-,“ he stopped as he looked into your (e/c) eyes. The words that felt like he needed to say or else he would suffocate on them, died on his tongue.
“Tsumu? Is everything okay?” Your tone of voice was cautious. You were confused by his behavior but at the same time hope started to spread through your chest as you looked back at him.
You knew this wasn’t a movie, but you couldn’t help but hope for a movie like ending.
“I-, it´s nothing. Sorry to hold ya back. I guess, I just got anxious for a second. Don´t worry about it and call me when you arrive at the hotel, kay? Just so I know ya´ll be fine” the volleyball player ended up making up an excuse. His gaze shifted to the side as he felt like he couldn’t look at you right now or he would burst.
Maybe if he looked, he would have seen the disappointment in your eyes before a soft smile settled on your lips.
“Of course, no need to worry. I will call you” you softly pulled your wrist out of his grip before once more taking a few steps back.
At your action Atsumu couldn’t help but bring his eyes back to you. For a moment the two of you shared a look and deep inside your hearts you both knew what the other tried to convey.
Please don’t leave like that, I love you.
Please don’t let me leave like that, I still love you.
But neither of you were courageous enough to speak those words.
-
He still hated himself for letting you go like this. He should have said something, anything really. It didn’t have to be a speech about great love. Three simple words would have been enough, but he wasn’t even able to do that.
He was determined to make amends by finally telling you. He didn’t want to do it over the phone, so when he found out he would have a game in the country you were currently at and it wasn’t even far away from the place you were staying, he was excited.
You were meeting him at the airport, even though he told you, you would meet up later on. After all, his plane arrived at 05:00 AM and he knew you weren’t exactly a morning person.
But apparently you couldn’t wait to see him, so you were adamant on coming to the airport.
-
About two hours later he finally arrived and was done getting his luggage. He felt butterflies in his stomach just thinking about how you were minutes away. When he stepped through the gate his eyes automatically flickered from person to person in order to find you.
His teammates knew he was looking for a special someone and therefor didn’t question his almost frantic behavior he had since they landed.
“Tsumu!” His head whipped around as he heard a loud voice calling out for him. You didn’t give him any time to react as you pretty much tackled him the next second. Thanks to his fast reflexes he dropped his luggage and instead wrapped his arms securely around you while also steading the two of you so you wouldn’t topple over.
“You don’t know how much I missed you” for once you didn’t care if he would tease you for your sappy words. Those six months were hard on you, and you couldn’t hold back.
“Of course, ya would, princess. It must have been horrible to be without yer best friend” he answered you jokingly, but you could tell by the way he tightened his arms around you that he felt the same as you.
“Are you saying that you brought Rin along?” You teased, while pressing your cheek to his shoulder.
“I see ya still are in denial, but I will forgive ya since I missed ya too” he gently nuzzles his nose into your hair, immediately calming down when he was able to smell your familiar scent.
For a moment the two of you didn’t exchange any words. Instead, you closed your eyes as you silently agreed on just enjoying the presence of the other.
You honestly felt like crying. Atsumu kept his promise and called and texted you a lot, but it just wasn’t the same.
You missed all those little moments with him. Be it the times he would steal your food and deny it while looking like a hamster, the times you would stay with him in the gym when everyone went home and it was just the two of you, the movie nights in which you would fall asleep on each other or even the times he would hug you after a game, all sweaty and smelly but also at his happiest which made you the happiest as well.
You never wanted to let him go.
“Hey, hey, hey! What do we have here? Is that the girl you talked about all the time for the past week?” A loud voice that you didn’t recognize immediately boomed through the airport. You took a step back from Atsumu to his disdain to greet his teammates.
When your eyes looked at the ace you immediately recognize him as Bokuto. You didn’t interact that much but you remember seeing him at the nationals and generally he had been a big name in high school volleyball.
“That´s me! It´s nice to meet you, too. I hope Tsumu only said nice things” you side glanced at the setter who looked at you with an innocent smile.
“He made you sound pretty amazing” Bokuto smiled, and you couldn’t help but blush a little.
“Read the room” Sakusa mumbled as he walked up to the three of you. Your eyes met with the dark-haired male and you smiled at him and he gave you a nod.
“What? Is something going on?” Bokuto asked, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.
“Everything is fine, I am really excited that you are here. This is the first time I get to see you guys play as professionals” you pointed out, your gaze shifted over to Atsumu. He was already looking at you and when your eyes met, he winked at you.
A soft blush formed on your cheeks. You really were excited to see them play. You used to be the manager of your school´s volleyball time and you would be lying if you said that you didn’t miss the sport and even more so the team.
Atsumu saw the small blush. He hoped to see that expression a lot more often from now on.
He would be here for about a week.
Plenty of time to confess.
-
Maybe he underestimated how hard it would be to find a moment to confess to you. He didn’t need the most romantic setting to tell you about his feelings but being alone for a minute would help for starters but even that was a hard task.
Especially Bokuto stuck to the two of you like glue. Not that he could blame him. You were their tour guide and when your group weren’t roaming the city, you were at practice at which you weren’t present since it was closed practice.
So, when the game day arrived, he grew panicked about the entire thing. He had less than 24 hours to confess and he wasn’t even one step further.
“Are you nervous?” He looked down at your figure that stood beside him in one of the endless hallways of the stadium. You wanted to meet Atsumu before the game. Mostly because you knew that this wouldn’t be the same as it was when you were still in high school.
Back then you were able to stick to the team the entire time as you were their manager but today you had to go to the stands. While Atsumu made sure that you would get a special seat, it still was a change.
“Not really. Today isn´t any different from usual” he responded as his lips formed a lazy grin.
“Today I am going to watch you and as your former manager I expect the best” you grinned, softly boxing his arm as you giggled. He couldn’t help but chuckle at your adorableness, but something was missing as he looked at you.
And then he got an idea what it was.
“Hey, ya look kind of lame” he frowned at you with furrowed eyebrows, mustering you in a judging manner and for a moment you were confused. The smile slipped of your face, not knowing what exactly he was referring to. You didn’t wear anything from your usual cloths.
“I know” you stood still as you watched him unzip his jersey and soon enough moved closer towards you to put it around your shoulders.
“Arms out, princess” he mumbled as he helped you slip your arms into the sleeves before zipping it all the way up, making you pout as the collar almost reached up to your mouth.
“Way better, now you look like you actually belong to us” he put his hands on his hips as he nodded at you in satisfaction.
Now you looked like you belonged with him.
When you were finally able to speak again you were sure that you already looked like a tomato. You quickly buried your face even more in the jacket as you glared at the male.
“You could have just told me and I would have bought some merch. No need to give up your jersey for me” you tried to play it cool. Wearing his jersey´s had always been your weakness. It sounded cliche but wearing something of him made you feel save and his lingering scent calmed you down.
Atsumu used to be quick to give up his hoodies or jackets to you, mostly when you underestimated the weather. It still felt different to wear something that had his name on it.
It felt more intimate.
“Nothin´ can beat the original, sweetheart. Just make sure yer are cheering the loudest for me and we are all good” his smirk grew as he observed your flustered expression.
“Only if you impress me. You know, Bokuto or Sakusa might win me as their fan, if they do a better job” you teased, knowing that you hit his ego right where it hurt.
“The setter is the best player on the court. Ya wont even be able to take yer eyes of me for a second. Just like in old times” he shot right back.
“You mean when I only had eyes for Samu? I really miss his pretty face” you pouted, laughing when he let out an annoyed huff.
“We share the same face, idiot”
“Yeah, but he also has the personality to fit it” you snickered to which he rolled his eyes. You weren’t sure if he was aware of it but you knew that you were all talk. Ever since the first game you´ve watched him play in, you truly couldn’t look away. He always looked so passionate and in the moment when he played volleyball. He looked like he was happy, and you didn’t want to miss a moment of that emotion.
“I guess, you should go to your team” you said after taking a look at your watch. He silently nodded, not taking his eyes off you. With an almost timid smile you walked a few steps back, not breaking eye contact before you decided to turn around.
“I have to tell you something after the game. That is if we win” he caught you off guard midturn, making you look back at him.
His words weren’t the surprising part, it was his change of tone. He suddenly sounded so serious.
“You can´t say it now? You know I am impatient” you reminded him, a small frown settling on your lips.
“Nah, don’t want to rush what I have to say” he told you. Even though he was smiling again, you knew something was off.
“Then why warn me ahead of time?”
“Just wanted to make sure I don’t chicken out again and I feel like a win would give me the courage to just say it” you became even more confused at his last words. What did he mean by chicken out again? What would he need to be afraid of to tell you?
Your heartbeat picked up and you were about to voice out your thoughts, but he was faster.
“Have to go now. Make sure to cheer for me, okay?” And with that the setter turned around and left you alone.
You stared after him for a few more moments before you decided that it was time to get to your seat. Luckily, you didn’t have too much trouble finding your way, so after a few minutes you finally sat down and not long after you saw the teams walking onto court.
You couldn’t help but smile when you spotted Atsumu. You have watched his games online, but this was different. You felt the general excitement of the stadium catching up to you as well.
Maybe he felt your stare, maybe not but after a few seconds Atsumu looked over to you. You immediately waved at him and to your utter joy he didn’t hesitate to wave back.
He was the one to get you this seat at the front, so it was natural that he knew where you would be.
Soon enough the game started, and you were immediately spellbound. Just as you promised your eyes followed Atsumu the entire game and to say that he played well would be an understatement. You knew he became better within those few months but today he had a unique aura surrounding him.
You weren’t overreacting if you said that this was one of his best games.
Just as promised you were screaming your lungs out, cheering whenever one of the boys scoured a point, concentrated in critical moments, and disappointed when the other team scored or one of their tactics failed.
It was an emotional roller coaster, one you used to be used to as a manager but now it almost felt new how many emotions surged through you within such a short amount of time.
You became the loudest when the game ended and their team won. They won. Atsumu won. You were cheering and clapping, you seat being long abandoned as you couldn’t sit still.
You wished you could rush out on the court and hug Atsumu but instead you had to wait until you would meet up with him at your planned meeting spot.
Your eyes met Atsumu´s one more time and you tried to mouth “I am proud of you”.
He grinned. You didn’t know if he understood you but the fact that he only had eyes for you right now made you feel all sort of emotions.
Your crush definitely wasn’t gone. Not after high school. Not after those few months apart. You weren’t sure if your heart would ever be able to let go of him.
When the teams were dismissed, you rushed to your meeting spot as fast as possible. You knew he must be tired and probably longed for a shower, but you hoped he would meet you first anyway.
You felt like you needed to see him and the words he spoke to you just before the game enhanced that feeling. You tried not to overthink what he had said but your mind couldn’t help but wonder in one specific direction. After all, there couldn’t be too many things that he could be afraid of.
You arrived before him. You tried to use that time and calm down a little. You buried your hands into the pockets of the sweater and nuzzled your nose into the collar in hopes of grounding you.
And for a moment you swore it worked out. Your thoughts stopped to rush, and your heart found a lighter rhythm.
All that progress was gone when you heard your name being called out.
Atsumu was definitely tired out after the game but the face you made in the stands while cheering for him made him decide that he had to see you as soon as possible. You looked so happy and undeniable cute in his sweater. The sight gave him a funny feeling in his stomach and the only thing that came to his mind at that exact moment was that it should always be that way.
You should always wear his jersey, his name on your back, written out for everyone to see for whom you were cheering, who you belonged to.
Still, he took his time to take a shower real quick and he meant real quick. He probably never was that fast showering and throwing his things in his bag before making his way to you.
He honestly would have liked to run to you instantly but if what he wanted to do next went well, he hoped you and him would get a bit intimate and he didn’t want to be all sweaty when that happened.
His face lit up when he already saw you standing at your meeting spot. To other people you must have looked like someone who was simply waiting but he knew you better. He could tell that you were slightly nervous in the way you tried to stand a little straighter or how you buried your hands in the pockets of the jersey to get a grip on yourself.
Have you figured him out? Did you know what he wanted to say?
“Ya couldn’t wait to see me, could ya?” he asked as he approached your smaller form. You beamed at him with a small smile on your face.
“Right back at you or else you would probably be in the locker room with your teammates now” you replied, “your hair is even still wet” you pointed out, observing how the wet strands of his blond hair fell perfectly into his face.
“Ya got me there” he admitted, taking a few steps closer to you. When he stood right before you, you looked up at him.
“So, what was it what you wanted to tell me?” You asked, preparing yourself to either hear what you have wanted to hear for years or that he lost or broke something that you once gave to him. You decided that those were the only things he could possibly be fearing to say to you.
“Ya are kind of cute when ya are impatient. Maybe I should wait little longer” he knew he was just trying to prolong the moment of his confession. He felt very confident two minutes ago but now that he was looking at you, he felt insecure.
His heartbeat picked up and he felt like the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat, making it impossible to breath.
He didn’t want to lose you as a friend but at the same time he knew he would never be happy to be “just a friend”.
“Tsumu, stop it. Just say it” you huffed, playfully glaring up at the tall setter.
You didn’t pick up on that and were rather confused when he just stared back. You at least expected some silly comment, so you started to complain again.
Atsumu didn’t really hear what you were saying but he saw you rambling and as the seconds ticked by he realized that he had always better at doing things than saying them.
Why would this be a different situation?
Without another word, the blond stepped forward, catching your waist with one hand while the other found its way to the nap of your neck. Words stopped coming out of your mouth at that unexpected movement. Your eyes widened as you realized how close his face was.
Atsumu gauged your reaction and when he didn’t find any uneasiness he leaned down and captured your lips with his. Your eyes fell shut and you melted into him. You placed your hands on his chest, one of them gripped the fabric of his shirt as you felt like you needed something to hold on.
After a short while, the two of you reluctantly pulled back. You rested your head on his shoulder while he leaned his cheek on your head. It reminded you of the hug you had a few days ago when he first arrived but this one felt like so much more. It meant so much more and just like last time you hoped he would never let go.
The kiss was so much more than what you imagined. Passionate, soft, and affectionate. Those three adjectives probably put it best.
Something told you he wouldn’t.
“Okay, fine. Suna is your best friend but I am your boyfriend, so I think I´ve won” Atsumu declared proudly and you let out a laugh.
“Way to ruin the moment, dummy” you scolded but your tone gave away that you weren’t really mad at him. If anything that was the most Atsumu-like thing he could have said in such a moment.
“So I guess, you wanted to tell me you like me?” You decided to bite the bullet, even though the answer was pretty obvious.
“More like I love ya, actually. I think after all the moments we shared that word hits the mark more” he corrected you.
“I love you too, Tsumu” your hands wandered to his neck to pull him closer as you pressed yourself against him. The male reacted immediately and tightened his grip on you as well.
“So, this is okay for you? The long-distance thing?” You questioned. It was one of your biggest worries which was why you craved his answer so much. Honestly, you just wanted him to tell you that it would be fine.
“I don’t care. In a few months ya will be by ma side again. I´ve loved ya too long to let distance get in between us. Ya remember when I ran after you at the airport last time? I wanted to confess but I got too scared. I wasn’t sure about your feelings and about the fact you were leaving”
“What changed?”
“I couldn’t get ya out of my head within those few months. I honestly was always worried that ya would call me one day and tell me that ya´ve found a boyfriend. I didn’t want to confess over the phone but I also wanted to have a chance with ya”
“Tsumu” his words touched you and you could feel how a new set of butterflies spread their wings in your stomach.
“I didn’t even look at other boys. I couldn’t, not when all you had to do to make me fall all over again was send a simple good morning”
“I am irresistible, aren’t I?” You let him poke your side, which caused you to let out a giggle.
“Maybe a little” you admitted, letting out a happy sigh.
“It better be more than a little because ya stuck with me forever, sweetheart” you could hear the smirk in his voice which was a stark contrast to the soft kiss he pressed on the top of your heard as he continued to hold you close.
“That’s nothing new really. Ever since we´ve met you follow me around like a puppy” you joked.
“Just marking ma territory” he replied, squeezing your hips. You rolled your eyes at his silly comment.
“Whatever” you mumbled, “by the way, does that mean I can keep the sweater?” You finally asked the important questions. He laughed as he softly nudged you off his shoulder so he could take a better look at you.
“As I said, I´m marking my territory” he gave you a cheeky grin and you were about to scold him once more but before you could do so, he pressed his lips to yours once more.
You fell under his spell once more.
So maybe it was okay for him to do so.
At the end, you couldn’t imagine anything more thrilling than being his.

When you tell him you used to have a crush on him (pt.Two) (Oikawa ver.)
Pairing: Oikawa x reader
Wordcount: about 4300 words (Didnt I say this won´t be as long? oops)
Genre: fluff
A/N: I haven´t proof-read this yet, so please excuse my mistakes. Also, I don´t know if I am happy with this or not. I thought the idea is cute but i am not sure if I am happy with the way I´ve done it. Anyway, it´s 6 AM, I have an important presentation today and isnetad of sleeping I´ve wrote this. I need to overthink my priorities.
Ever since that call in which you confessed that you had feelings for him, there was a strange tension between you that neither of you knew what to do about
You still texted, still called – the amount of time you spent with one another didn’t change but it felt like the “what if” was on your minds constantly, even if you didn’t know that was the case for the other
You were still slightly bothered about his comment about him not breaking your heart while he was actively imagining what the future would have looked like if one of you confessed
Would you be with him right now? Would you have left Japan with him? Or would he have stayed? Technically, there were plenty of opportunities in Japan for him. Maybe it would be the same as now but would the two of you be in a long distance relationship? The thought didn’t bother him as much if it was with you.
Ultimately neither of you knew what to do about it
Maybe it was time to move on
You took a shaky breath as you took one last look into the mirror. He should be here any second to pick you up, so there wasn’t much you could do about your outfit anyway.
By he you meant your date. Yes, you had a date and no he wasn’t your longtime crush. Besides the fact that Oikawa wasn’t even on the same continent as you which made it physical impossible to go on a date, there was also the problem that he didn’t seem to like you back.
After a lot of thinking, you got to the conclusion that Oikawa didn’t mean anything by it when he said he wouldn’t have broken your heart. He probably was just reassuring you that he would have been gentle with rejecting you and still would have been friends with you afterwards.
If he meant anything else by it, he would have said so. You knew him well enough to know that he was rather cunning and that his words didn’t always reflect his true thoughts. He wasn’t just a silly idiot who loved volleyball a little too much. No, he was rather smart and knew how to charm people.
But this was different. There was no reason for him to be pretentious, no reason to talk in riddles. He could have just said “too bad, I liked you too”.
He wasn’t exactly shy in that way, so why would he start now?
It was almost funny how the day after you came to that conclusion, a boy from your class asked you out. You had talked to him a few times due to sitting next to each other or even having projects together.
He was kind and polite, truly a good guy. He also was easy on the eyes and had the sweetest smile. Still, you always thought of him as a fellow student since you never really became too personal with one another.
So, it came as a surprise when he suddenly asked you on a date to the movies. You hesitated but eventually decided that this might be a sign.
Your phone that rested in your hand vibrated and your gaze immediately shifted to the bright screen.
It was a text message. A reply from Oikawa.
You didn’t tell him about the date since you knew he was too busy anyway to help you, so instead you had freaked out about it to a girl friend of yours who matched your excitement and provided great advice.
You still couldn’t stop yourself from sending him a mirror picture when you were ready for your date.
It was just the picture and a Do I look cute?” with a winking emoji. You weren’t embarrassed about it since such texted were normal between you too. You always made sure that the other knew that they were attractive, not that Oikawa needed any more reassurance.
Oikawa: super cute ;) why are you dressed up though? Having a girl’s night?
You still blushed whenever he complimented you, which he knew and used to make fun of.
Cutie: No, I actually have a date. It´s the first one and I want to make sure I look my best :)
Oikawa: What? A date? And you only tell me only now? I thought we tell each other everything. I am not sure where I stand with you :<<
You chuckled as you read his overdramatic reply.
Other than you, Oikawa wasn’t laughing; he wasn’t even smiling. A deep frown was present on his face as he looked down at the device on which your recent picture was still shown.
You definitely looked cute and to be honest, his heart skipped a beat when he saw the picture you´ve sent him.
Now that he knew that you looked this good for another guy, he couldn’t really appreciate it anymore.
He knew this day would come, of course it would. You were beautiful and in your own unique way absolutely charming. He was pretty sure the only reason why you weren’t snatched up in high school was because at one point you were pretty much known as the girl of the Aoba Joshai volleyball club and most guys were intimidated by the players that seemed to be always around you.
It wasn’t like that was exactly their intention, but it just happened naturally that you would spend pretty much every moment in school with them. It wasn’t easy to ask someone out when behind them stood three towering guys who looked intimidating if you didn’t know them.
Anyway, he knew this was coming but he still wasn’t prepared. He just came back from training and actually planned to ring you up but obviously you would be busy.
Cutie: Anyway, he is here so I have to go now :)
Oikawa: where is he taking you anyway?
He decided to ignore your previous message as he felt strangely inclined to know exactly what was going on where you were.
Cutie: To the movies :p
Oikawa: How lame. That’s so cliché. You only deserve the best, princess. Don’t settle for such an uncreative guy :(
Yeah, he didn’t sound jealous at all.
Cutie: You mean someone like you who literally only goes to a restaurant or the park as a first date?
You knew him so well but unfortunately you got him there. To be fair, his previous relationships weren’t that serious, so he never felt like he needed to go all out for a girl. If he had the chance to take you on a date though, he would make sure to come up with something super romantic.
Oikawa: This isn´t about me. Stop reflecting. Your date is lazy :<<
Cutie: As much I would love to hear you complaining even more about my date you don’t even know, he is here and I have to go for real now. I will text you later xxx
Oikawa frowned once more. He knew it wasn’t possible to completely make you forget about your date but he still had somehow hope that he could have kept you on your phone longer.
He sighed.
-
Your date and you made some nice small talk as you were driving over to the cinema. Once you arrived you got your tickets, some popcorn and before you knew it you were sitting at your seats.
“I´m going to the bathroom real quick before the movie starts. I will be right back” your date excused himself and you nodded with a small smile.
It was nice. It didn’t feel exactly like a date though. Your nerves calmed down which you were thankful for but somehow you missed the spark.
Shouldn’t there be a spark?
Your thoughts were interrupted when your phone vibrated once more. It did that ever since your left your apartment. You furrowed your eyebrows as you picked up the device and turned on the screen.
You weren’t surprised at what you found.
Oikawa: So is he nice? How do you know him anyway?
Oikawa: Are you already there? I hope you arrived safe and without anything inappropriating happening, young lady
Oikawa: Helllllloooooo? Where are you? I am worried he kidnapped you
Oikawa: Or are you ignoring me? That would be so rude :<<<
Oikawa: If he does anything you don’t like tell me and I will come and beat him up for you. I don’t care how far away I am.
Oikawa: Cutie? Princess? Best friend? Cutest best friend ever? Y/NNNNN?
You groaned as you read all those random texts, especially because you weren’t sure what he was thinking. You considered ignoring him or even turning off your phone completely but somehow you didn’t want to. Maybe you were so desperate for the male that you even liked his attention while being on a date with someone else.
Did that make you a bad person? Probably.
Cutie: What the hell are you doing? I am fine. He hasn’t kidnapped me yet but if that happens you will be the first to know
Oikawa: Don´t joke about that. It´s a real fear of mine :(
Cutie: of course, it is. Btw, I am not ignoring you. I am on a date. Are you really trying to third wheel on my date while being on another continent? That´s even a bit much for you.
Oikawa: Well, I am pretty ambitious and as you can see it works. You text with me instead of paying attention to your date. So, who is the one third wheeling? :)
You blushed as you realized how right he was and there wasn’t exactly any hiding it. Your date still wasn’t back, so you weren’t exactly ignoring him, which you wouldn’t do anyway because you weren’t rude but still.
Cutie: He is at the bathroom. I am not ignoring him for you
Oikawa: He left you alone? If that isnt a red flag, I don’t know what is
Cutie: the only red flag here is your trolling as my best friend. I see him coming back. Bye.
Oikawa: Don´t go!!! Tell me what´s happening. By now I am a vital part of this date. I have any right to know.
You rolled your eyes as you read the last text before putting your phone into your lap.
“You okay?” The male smiled as he sat down in his seat once more. Your eyes left the device as you gave him a bright smile of your own.
“Yeah, everything is good. I am excited for the movie” you answered, choosing to not address that your best friend was trying to invite himself to your date.
“I am glad you are. I´ve actually waited forever for it to come out. So what´s your favorite movie genre?” once more the two of you ended up having small talk, patiently waiting for the movie to start.
Sooner than later the movie started, and the theater grew rather quiet. There weren’t that many people to begin with but now everyone was paying attention to the movie, which you were supposed to do as well.
Instead, your gaze flickered back to your phone that you put on silent due to Oikawa not giving up. You couldn’t help but wonder what he was texting you but at the same time you couldn’t be so rude
Your mind couldn’t shut up though, trying to figure out Oikawa´s intentions. There was a high chance he just wanted to annoy you. You remembered that he once spied on Iwaizumi when he was going on date. He forced you to come along and as ridiculous as it sounded, it was actually kinda fun. Until Iwaizumi spotted you two and was ready to beat up Oikawa while you would get a good scolding.
But you also felt that small spark of hope lit up in your chest, a feeling you knew too well as it came back over and over again ever since you´ve realized you liked your best friend.
Sneaking a peak wouldn’t hurt, right?
You tried to do it in secret by shielding the light of your phone by pulling your jacket into your lap.
Oikawa: The movie started, right?
Oikawa: Wanna stream a movie together later this week? I kinda miss our movie nights :(
Cutie: Yeah, it´s good :)
Oikawa: Must be if you rather text me instead of watching ;)
Cutie: okay, I am going back to ignoring you
Oikawa: wait
Oikawa: don’t
Oikawa: come back to me. Don’t leave me
Cutie: calm down, idiot
Oikawa: your idiot <3
Cutie: Ehh
Oikawa: I should change your contact name to meanie and I was just about to give you great advice :(
Cutie: Go ahead :D but what advice are you talking about exactly? :o
Oikawa: Advice to keep your innocence
Cutie: I am not 12 anymore
Oikawa: Yeah, but this is your first date and I know all the dirty thoughts a guy has when he takes a girl to the movie theater, you know a dark, big space.
Cutie: Too much information. Maybe it´s just you. He hadn´t done anything. He is a nice guy. I don’t think he will try anything
Oikawa: and that, my darling, is exactly what he wants you to think
Cutie: Stop trying to scare me
Oikawa: just call me if he tries to kiss you
Cutie: maybe I want him to kiss me :p
Oikawa: do you really?
You frowned at his last question. Your heartbeat quickened and suddenly you felt like the light hearted tone of your text conversation got lost.
Your turned off the screen of your phone and straightened yourself, eyes now fixed on what was happening before you.
You tried to concentrate, you really did but Oikawa´s words didn’t want to leave your mind. What would you do? Would you kiss him? Did you want to do this with a guy like him? Would you then feel a spark? Or would it just be a bland kiss?
You shock your head, you shouldn’t worry. That won´t happen. Oikawa was a drama queen. He was just trying to scare you. Maybe he was offended that you´ve never told him about the date or maybe it was because he felt protective as your best friend.
Or maybe he liked you.
It didn’t matter because you wouldn’t do anything about it anyway.
You left your phone alone and for the next 30 minutes you actually managed to enjoy the movie and follow it´s storyline.
That’s when a romantic scene appeared on the screen and you visibly stiffened.
You felt awkward. It was almost like watching a sex scene in a movie with your family.
You flinched when you suddenly felt a hand touch yours. You gulped, your eyes shifting over to your own hand before you looked up. Your date turned himself to you, staring at you with a look you couldn’t read.
He wouldn’t, would he?
“Y/N” he whispered your name in a way that made you want to run away. You froze as the boy suddenly leaned closer. You appreciated that he wasn’t ambushing you and actually gave you time to react, showing that he wasn’t trying to force himself on you. Still, you couldn’t think right at that moment.
He leaned closer and closer, slowly closing his eyes.
Oh, he would.
-
Oikawa was bouncing his leg as he sat on his bed restlessly. He hated that he couldn’t do anything. You haven’t answered for almost half an hour. He knew he had no right to feel jealous or even prevent anything from happening between you and that boy but he was selfish in that way.
He was enlightened and a bit smug when he got you texting him back. It gave him confidence to know that he was on your mind instead of whatever loser you were dating.
Maybe he was the loser. He hated the guy without knowing a thing about him.
He took a deep breath as he suddenly regretted that he had never said anything. He didn’t have the right to feel jealous but he could have prevented all of this by confessing to you when you were still in high school.
And right this moment he couldn’t help but wonder if he wasn’t doing the same mistake once more.
His phone vibrated and he immediately looked down.
His eyes widened at the massage.
Cutie: He tried to kiss me.
A mix of anger and sadness surged through him until his mind finally processed the entire message.
Tried.
As in, you didn’t let him?
-
You flew to the bathroom. You weren’t proud but when he had leaned in you panicked and before his lips could meet yours you pretty much jumped up and told him that you needed to use the bathroom.
You didn’t even wait for an answer.
To make your embarrassment complete, you immediately texted Oikawa. You felt like a teenager. You should have just told him that you didn’t want to kiss him instead of running away. He seemed considered. He wouldn’t have forced you.
Not to forget that you were anxious about Oikawa´s respond. Would he make fun of you? Would he think you were childish? You buried your face in your hands with a grown.
Your pity party was interrupted when Oikawa called you. It wasn’t just a normal call. He tried to facetime you. What the hell?
You hesitated but ended up picking up.
“Hey, Tooru” you said almost too casual as you weren’t even sure what you were doing. You were in a bathroom stall, hiding from your date because he tried to kiss you and now you were facetiming your best friend. It couldn’t get any weirder.
You looked at your screen at which Oikawa was now displayed. Your heart automatically skipped a beat. His hair was slightly tousled. He was wearing a simple black shirt that you have seen him in countless of time but you still never failed to appreciate how handsome he looked even in the most simple things.
But what really caught your attention was his expression. His face almost looked tense. His mouth was formed in a frown and his eyed held a serious glint that you usually only saw whenever he was on the court.
“Please tell me you didn’t kiss him” you were surprised at the urging tone of Oikawa´s voice. He almost sounded desperate.
“What? I mean, I-. No, I didn’t kiss him” you answered, your cheeks started to turn red. “I am sorry, It was stupid to text you like this. I mean, you warned me to but gosh, this was so embarrassing! I literally ran away! I should have just said no and kept my cool. Maybe you are right and I am still a kid when it comes to this stuff. Why am I even saying all this? You will never let me live that down, will you?” Your nerves got the better of you, making you brabble.
Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up
“Fuck, no, I am glad. I mean, it´s definitely a nice confession story for sure. That is if what I am about to do works out” he finally interrupted you. He clearly was more relaxed now. Instead his demeanor became almost shy as he shifted his eyes away from the screen for a second before his brown eyes met your e/c ones once more.
“Confession story? What are you-?”
“I like you. I like you so much and I am an idiot for only saying it when you decide to go on a date. I know you said that you don’t like me anymore but I know I wouldn’t be able to move on if I didn’t say anything”
After he said “I like you” you weren’t able to comprehend whatever he was saying after. All that rang in your ears were those three words.
Oikawa watched your reaction. He wasn’t sure if it was good or bad when you became completely silent and looked like you´ve just seen a ghost but this couldn’t turn any more embarresing, so he gave you time to process his words.
“Are you serious? You mean it?” Deep down you knew that he would never joke about something like that.
“Yes, what about you? Any chance to revive your past feelings for me?” he sounded so vunerable when he said those words. A small smile played on his lips. A smile you easily reciprocated.
“Yeah, actually they have never died down. I was just too much of a coward to confess directly to you. I mean, you are you and a long-distance relationship isn’t ideal as well”
“What do you mean I am me? Don´t you dare be insecure about yourself. You are gorgeous and so goddamn cute. Do you know how hard it was not to confess to you when we used to spend so much time together?”
“I wished you had” you joked, “I like you too, Tooru” you had to hold back tears as you looked at your phone. You waited so long for this moment and now that it was here you felt overwhelmed. You just wished he was here. You wanted to hug him, kiss him – just be close to him.
“Don´t look like that, sweetheart. God, if I was with you right now I would kiss you and not let you go for the rest of the night but I guess, I have to wait a bit longer until you visit me” You let out a chocked giggle as you felt so much affection right now that you didn’t know what to do with it.
“So you gonna be my girlfriend? No more dates with random guys who don’t know what a good date is?” His teasing grin made you fall in love even more.
“Yeah, I only want to go on uncreative dates with you from now on” you joked
“Hey! I told you I would do better nowadays. Especially when it is with you” he pouted playfully and you let out another laugh. This was typical Oikawa.
Your Tooru.
“Anyway, now that that´s settled, how about you show me the dude who tried to kiss my sweet girlfriend?” he spat, a scowl forming on his face.
You rolled your yes. He was truly an idiot.
“I wasn’t your girlfriend at that moment and besides, you aren’t exactly intimidating while being on a phone screen”
“Hey! As my girlfriend you are supposed to support me!”
-
One month later
“Tooru!” You jumped in his arms when you finally reached him. Your plane just landed and you swore you´ve never been that impatient about going through the process of getting to the gate where the people would wait for their friends and family.
After all, that would be the first time you would see your boyfriend in person.
He wrapped his strong arms around you, pressing your smaller body tightly against his. You had hugged him countless of times, but this felt different. More loving, warmer, more meaningful.
“Finally, you don’t know how long I´ve waited until I could finally shower you with all the love you deserve” the male whispered right into your ear, softly nipping at it.
A shiver went down your back and your cheeks were tinted red within seconds. You knew he was forward with his affection but you didn’t expect this.
“I missed you too. I couldn’t wait to finally come here. This was the longest month of my entire life” you admitted, tightening your arms that were around his neck, burying your nose deeper in his shoulder.
You felt his chest rumble softly as he let you a chuckle, his hand softly squeezing your hips.
“Missed you too. I even had a hard time to concentrate in practice. You wouldn’t believe how mean the other guys were about it” you didn’t need to see his face to know he was pouting. “but now I don´t have to miss you anymore, so show me your beautiful face”
The setter pulled away, bringing one hand to your chin to make you look up at him. Your blush deepened as you peered directly into his handsome face. His eyes were slightly hooded as his typical smirk played on his lips.
You couldn’t avert your eyes even for a second.
“You gonna run away, pretty girl?” He teased as he slowly leaned down. You couldn’t answer, only slightly shaking your head as you waited for the moment his lips would meet yours
Your eyes slowly closed and soon enough his warm lips met your soft ones. The kiss emitted the familiar spark in your chest that you always felt whenever you were just thinking about him.
Your grip on his shoulder tightened as you felt the need to steady yourself while getting lost in the kiss. Oikawa was a good kisser. While you were pretty sure that gentle wasn’t his go to method, he chose to kiss you slow and deep, taking your breath away.
Literally, which was the only reason the two of you pulled apart. He leaned his forehead against yours. A satisfied sigh leaving his lips as he just enjoyed the moment.
You kept your eyes closed as you tried to concentrate on the feeling of him.
“I love you” he mumbled, only for your ears to hear.
Your eyes snaped open, meeting his as he was already gazing at you. The usually playful glint was replaced by an affectionate one that told you everything you needed to know.
“I love you too, Tooru” you replied without any hesitation.
“I wanted to tell you when I first confessed but then I thought it would be so much nicer if I could kiss you right afterwards” he smirked, softly cupping your face with one hand as his eyes traced over your adorable face that started to resemble a cherry.
“Then what are you waiting for?” You teased shyly, hoping he would just kiss you once more.
And he did.
And you kissed back.

The Soulmate Games - Oikawa x Reader (pt. Two)
Pairing: Oikawa x reader
Wordcount: ca. 3400 words
Genre: fluff, angst (not really), Soulmate Au
Summary: A countdown to your happy ever after. Something that is a dream to most people is a nightmare to those who don’t believe in an happy end. But how can you avoid a part of your life that was always supposed to be there? Exactly, you just try to keep the clock ticking.
Disclaimer: Haikyuu and its characters don’t belong to me.
Unknown Number: “Hey, here is your soulmate”
Your heart almost stopped when you read the message, sitting in your own room a few streets away from Oikawa´s house.
Your timer didn’t seem to be bothered.
Seemingly the universe didn’t foresee the advancement of technology.
-
For a moment you only stared at the offending object, not moving a muscle. Your mind was already in overdrive, trying to find a way to resolve the situation and the first thing that came to your mind was to completely ignore him but then you thought about the consequence.
You could already see him barging into your school, seeking you out and demanding to know why the hell you acted as you did. Not to forgot that within your imagination you saw Mina and Ray cheering him on from the sidelines while the other people around you were completely shocked that someone would actively avoid their soulmate.
You shock your head and decided that you couldn’t let that happen. You needed to face this head on and somehow get him to stay away from you.
Playing dumb could work.
You: and who is my supposed soulmate?
The male answered immediately, showing that he waited for your reply. Unbeknownst to you, even quite anxiously.
Oikawa: Come on, Soulmate-chan! Don´t be like this, I think you had your fun by running off all the time ;)
You: as far as I remember you were the one running off this time
Oikawa: So, you know who I am? It breaks my heart that you pretended not to know :<
You snorted.
You: Fine, I know who you are but that doesn’t mean that you are my soulmate. It´s only possible to know for sure after meeting your soulmate
Oikawa: Wanna test it then?
You: No.
Oikawa: so cold :<<<
Oikawa: why don´t you want to meet me? :(
That was the question you wanted to avoid all along. While you felt too insecure to answer, you decided to give him a vague reply in order to not leave him hanging.
You: I have my reasons. Just know that it isn´t because I don’t want to meet my soulmate
Oikawa: ???
You: It´s complicated
You: can we please leave it at that for now?
Oikawa: So even though we know each other, you still don’t want to meet? :0
His way to text irritated you to say the least. You couldn’t tell if he was serious, angry, or just joking around. You didn’t even know if he was truly hurt by your actions or if he wasn’t bothered at all.
Oikawa stared at his phone in frustration as you took your time to answer his latest questions. He tried hard not show his true emotions. Instead, he was his silly self and hoped that this and a few added emojis covered up what was truly inside him: a storm of emotions.
By now he wasn’t even sure if this was just out of habit or if it was a conscious decision to make you open up to him. He knew you could block him anytime but he wouldn’t want that to happen because he knew what he would have to have to do then.
He wasn´t known for his inteligence but he was perceptive enough to know that he had to go careful about this in hopes of making you comfortable enough to share whatever his holding you back with him.
And he would rather want to avoid having to force his way into your life but he would do that if there wasn’t any other option anymore.
Finally, he heard the noise that notified him that he had another massage from you.
Soulmate-chan: Not yet.
Not yet? What exactly did that even mean?
Oikawa: and how long is this “not yet” going to last? :(
Soulmate-chan: I honestly don´t know.
Soulmate-chan: I don’t really want to ask you to wait for me, but I want to at least ask you to tolerate my decision.
He huffed. Of course, he would wait. He didn’t even meet you in person, but you still managed to annoy him to no end but he knew that you were meant to be with him, so how could he not wait? And he would make sure that you understood that he wanted to be with you. Of course he would be subtle about it.
Oikawa: I don’t want to force you, but I really really want to be with you!
Subtle for sure
Oikawa: You are playing with my feelings here!
Oikawa: Since you seem to like games, how about I start playing, too? :D
Soulmate-chan: what do you mean?
Oikawa: A simple game of cat and mouse. I won´t ambush you at school or something but the universe still has its plans and whenever it gives me the chance to actually meet you, I will take it.
Oikawa: It´s easy, you keep running away and I try to catch you. Nothing much is changing from how it has been before but now I am an active player
Soulmate-chan: are you for real?
Oikawa: of course, I am. I want to meet you and you want to postpone that. Whoever wins the game gets what they want.
Soulmate-chan: fine, but I am on a winning streak ´, so don’t be too disappointed if you don’t succeed any time soon, okay? :)
God, even one stupid emoji sent by you made him excited at this point.
Baby steps, he had to remind himself.
Oikawa: don´t worry, I am ambitious. I will catch you.
Soulmate-chan: good luck
Oikawa: It´s destiny.
Soulmate-chan: We both know how much destiny was of help until now
Oikawa: so mean :<
You sighed as you let yourself fall on your back on your bed. Motionlessly, you stared at your ceiling. A mix of anxiety and excitement started to build within your stomach.
Deciding that it would be the best to try and sleep – even though you were sure you wouldn’t be able to – you reached out for the lamp on your nightstand, turning it off.
You were about to put your phone on flight mode when you heard the familiar sound of a notification.
You hesitated for a moment before texting back.
Oikawa: Good night, Soulmate-chan, hopefully you dream of me
Soulmate-chan: good night.
-
The next day you felt absolutely anxious.
The moment you woke up you were on guard, even if there was no way Oikawa could get in your own house. Still, you couldn’t help but look at your wardrobe in suspicion as if the boy would jump out of it any moment. Nor could you help but anticipate seeing him standing behind you through your mirror when you looked up again from washing your face.
When you walked into the kitchen you weren’t surprised to find it empty. Your mother stayed over at her boyfriend´s again as she did almost all the time. Leaving you alone with not just you schoolwork but also other tasks that kids your age usually didn’t have too worry about as much.
You only had enough time left to make yourself a toast that you took between your teeth as you were hastily putting on your shoes before storming out of your house.
Throughout the day your skittish behavior continued on. It didn’t help that your timer was seemingly going crazy. Maybe it was the fact that the two of you knew who each other were but it would easily jump from days to hours and back. It was strange and made you question in what way you were able to manipulate it.
Maybe the mere thought of going over to his school and meeting him would be able to influence your timer or maybe it was influenced by things that were beyond you.
You jumped when two trays suddenly hit the table you were sitting at in the moment. One beside you and the other one on the opposite of you. You shouldn’t be surprised anymore since the three of you ate lunch together for years without fail which made your jumpy behavior even more embarrassing.
You felt a soft red blooming on your cheeks.
“So do you want to tell us what the hell is wrong with you on your own free will or do we have to interrogate you?” Mina´s voice sounded from beside. You didn’t need to look at her to know that her eyes were burning into your skull.
You knew that the two of them would realize that you were acting off and you knew that they wouldn’t let it go, so you were already mentally prepared for this conversation.
“Well, I started to talk with my supposed soulmate” you said, making sure to keep your voice as steady as possible.
“You started talking? So you met him? Who is he?” Again, you didn’t need to look at Mina to know that her eyes were most likely sparkling.
“Wow, really? When the hell did that happen? Did you meet up last night?” Ray on the other hand seemed surprised, which you could understand.
“That is not exactly what happened” you put your arm forward, softly tucking at your sleeve to reveal your timer that was still ticking away on your wrists.
The black-haired girl furrowed her eyebrows at that while Ray looked at you in question.
“He texted me and to come back to Mina´s question. It´s likely Oikawa” you admitted before shoving a spoon with your food into your mouth.
“Oikawa?” The girl exclaimed excitedly “He is so cute! I cant believe your soulmate is such a-“
“Hey, shut up!” Almost chocking on your food due to her outburst you lunged forward to put a hand over her mouth. You didn’t need anyone to know that Oikawa was your soulmate. While you didn’t go to the same school, you could imagine that a social butterfly like him had connections everywhere or at least some fans.
You didn’t even confront him directly, so you sure as hell didn’t want to put up with some girls who thought of him as some kind of divine being.
“I don’t want the school to know. I don’t even know for 100%” you scolded her with a glare. She gave a muffled sorry and said some other words you couldn’t make out which was why you decided to let her go again.
“Are you sure it is him? You seemed unsure yesterday?” Ray asked you, remember the conversation the two of you shared while walking home together.
“As I said, I am not 100% sure but..” you stopped for a moment to find the right words “it is very likely since he seemed to have trouble with his soulmate running away from him” you continued.
“But how is it possible that the two of you have contact without stopping your timers?” Your female best friend finally asked the question that not even you could answer or at least you couldn’t answer it with certainty.
“Well, he has my number and texted me because he is sure I am his soulmate due to what happened yesterday. I believe you didn’t realize it Mina but the second before this thief tackled me out of the way, I was supposed to meet my soulmate, so-“
“so, if Oikawa didn’t decide to run after the thief the two of you would have met and that meeting lines up perfectly with the way your timer ticked down?” She finished for you, realization found it´s way on her face before she started to pout.
“That sucks! You were so close to meeting him. Now I am even more annoyed with that scum of a thief” she huffed.
“I guess, it played in my cards” you disagreed, slightly shrugging. It wasn’t like you were happy that your best friend was robbed and yes, you most likely would have preferred to meet your soulmate than having any kind of harm coming to your friends but a small part was also relived that that encounter bought you time.
“When are you going to meet up?” The question interrupted your train of thoughts, making you blink a few times.
“What?” you looked over to the male that was shoving his own food ungracefully into his mouth while waiting for your answer.
“You talked over the phone. The cat is out of the back. He knows who you are, so when are you going to officially meet?” the black-haired male clarified. You frowned.
“Not anytime soon,” you replied immediately.
“Wait what?” Mina piped in “you are telling me that you are still running? Come on, it´s starting to become old. Just go on a date already!” She encouraged you but knowing how much of a romantic she was you weren’t entirely sure if this was for you or just so you would live the romantic fantasy she imagined for you.
“We kind of made a bet or to be more exact: we started a game. We agreed that we wouldn’t actively seek each other out but if we are close to each other we will try to meet me while I will give everything to avoid that” you summarized what you talked about with Oikawa yesterday.
“It´s kind of weird but there is something romantic about it, too!” Mina grinned which made Ray roll his eyes.
“You see something romantic about everything!” He exclaimed, making your friend giggle.
“The world is full of romantic. Some people are just to bitter to see it” she countered, playfully sticking out her tongue.
“It´s really not like this. It´s the same as before. The only difference is that I now know who I have to avoid while he knows who he needs to find” you waved her off, hoping she would stop to put more meaning to the arrangement than there was.
“The two of you are hopeless but just wait. Oikawa will get you at some point and sweep you off your feet and you Ray, well, I just hope your soulmate doesn’t have too high expectations” you burst out laughing at her comment while Ray glared at her dangerously.
“Oh, that´s rich coming from the most annoying girl in existence. I can only pity your soulmate for having to put up with your loudmouth 24 hours” he spat.
“What did you just say?” Now it was her turn to glare at the tall male.
“You heard me” he replied dryly, and she was about to say something back when you decided to break this up.
“Let´s be real, we all three are exhausting as soulmates. Can we just agree on that and move on?” After all the three of you knew each other well enough to be aware of your good and bad sides.
“Fine, but there is one question I would like to have answered” Mina sighed. You looked at her, waiting for her to pronounce her question.
“How is it possible for you two to be in contact without disturbing your trigger?” You thought about it for a second but when you opened your mouth, Ray beat you to the punch.
“As I see it, there are to options. Either texting doesn’t count as meeting or the two of them aren’t soulmates. I would suggest looking it up if there are cases of people meeting online without knowing they are soulmates since you don’t want to meet Oikawa anytime soon”
“That’s a good idea. You only texted each other, right?”
You nodded.
“Yeah, it was late. I don’t know if a phone call can trigger the timer, but wouldn’t it jump then? Like if I asked him to call me right now, do you think my timer would jump to like two minutes and stop working when I answer the call? Or is technology something the universe just didn’t expect to happen?” You voiced out what has been on your mind all day.
“Technically, it shouldn’t matter if a phone call triggers it since you still wouldn’t have met him in person, but I am sure the internet will provide answers. You can’t be the first one to start of your relationship with your soulmate over the internet – even though you might be the only one to actually know that it is your soulmate” Ray said.
“We aren’t exactly in a relationship”
“Whatever”
As if scripted, you felt your phone vibrate. With a quick look you saw Oikawa´s name on your display. That reminded you that he even went through the trouble of sending you a quick good morning text. Even though you didn’t have time to answer and – (acted like)- it slipped your mind.
[07:26 AM] Oikawa: Good morning, beautiful!
[12:33 PM] Oikawa: Sooo, how was your day? Have you already been bragging about me to your friends? ; )))
If he only knew.
-
Oikawa didn’t even notice that he was grinning at his phone like an idiot. His teammates who were in the changing room with him though, had no trouble pointing it out.
“What makes our captain look even more idiotic than usual?” Matsukawa asked while pulling his shirt over his head.
“Or to be more precisely, who?” Hanamaki piped in with a small grin on his face. Oikawa had always been a flirt but ever since his soulmate was close by he didn’t have eyes for anyone else, which was why the boys were surprised to have Oikawa staring at his phone like he just won the lottery.
“Believe it or not but that idiot finally found his soulmate but instead of cornering her he just sends her silly texts” Iwaizumi explained with a deadpan expression on his face. When he met up with Oikawa in the morning, the captain was even more energetic than usually. He didn’t even have to ask before Oikawa told him about – as well as showed him – the texts he exchanged with his supposed soulmate.
Oikawa also informed him about this challenge which he personally thought to be stupid but when he saw the determination in Oikawa´s eyes he knew that there was no way to convince the male to drop this game and just find his soulmate.
“What do you mean they are texting?” Matsukawa´s eyes immediately fell to the brown haired male´s wrist. His eyebrows furrowed when he caught sight of the timer which was still working. “Your timer is still going” he pointed out.
“Yeah, well. We didn’t exactly meet in person yet. I saw the back of her head but that´s about it” Oikawa explained with a grin but the other boys looked at him with confusion.
“Then how do you know she is your soulmate? She could be a scam. Did one of your fangirls finally convince you that she is the love of your life?” Hinamaki joked, which earned him a pouty look of the captain.
“She isn´t a fangirl. She doesn’t go to our school. It´s complicated but I know it is her. We almost met and the timing was just too perfect. Her story with her soulmate also matches mine. There is just no way it´s not her. I can feel it” Oikawa tried to explain when he noticed how suspicious everyone was.
“A feeling? If you say so but that doesn’t explain why you don’t go and meet her?” Matsukawa threw in.
“She doesn’t want to meet him yet but he wants to. Instead of forcing her, though, he wants to beat her at her own game. I see it as a waste of time but I guess, some people could call it romantic” Iwaizumi replied before Oikawa could open his mouth.
Now that everyone was dressed he was the first one to leave the club room, followed by Oikawa and the other two boys.
“I call that stupid. Why wait? I would want to meet her immediately” Hanamaki admitted, a dreamy look took over his eyes as he thought about meeting his soulmate one day.
Oikawa was aware that most people wouldn’t be as patient as him but he couldn’t bring himself to force you to meet him – at least not without going over all the other options.
You haven’t even met officially but your happiness already became one of his priorities.
[12:39 AM] Soulmate-chan: Besides the fact that I expect you to jump me any second, good I guess
[12:40 AM] Soulmate-chan: I wouldn´t call it bragging. More like analyzing the situation
[12:40 AM] Oikawa: You mean, analyzing how hot of a soulmate I am? ;))
[12:43AM] Soulmate-chan: Bye :)
[12:43 AM] Oikawa: Don´t leave me, Soulmate-chan. We know it´s the truth :<<<
Both of you smiled as you looked down at your phone.
Oikawa couldn´t help but be over the moon that you would answer him while you couldn´t deny that he was kind of adorable.
And hot, not that you would ever tell him.

Of pens and papers - Bokuto x Reader (pt. One)
Pairing: Bokuto x reader
Wordcount: ca. 1300 words
Genre: fluff, future angst, college Au
Summary: Sometimes you are lucky enough to meet the right people at the right time. This is how you first met him.
Parts: One Two Three
A/N: Its not like a continuous story but more like multiple drabbles/one-shots which belong together and play out the important moments of how Bokuto and the reader became a couple. I think there will be about 8 to 10 parts. The length of each chapter will vary greatly. I would also recommend to read all of them in the right order. Also this is a college Au, so it doesn´t follow the actual story line of the manga.
You huffed as you looked at the offending book on the shelf. It was just out of reach. You wouldn’t call yourself especially short. Actually, you were pretty much average but that one book was just a few centimetres too high for you.
You frowned as you looked around for a ladder or something like that but weren’t too surprised when you didn’t find one. Logically, you were aware that you could ask someone else to help you. It was exam season, so there were plenty of students of all sizes lurking around the library in hopes of surviving this critical time within every university student´s life.
But logically, you were also shy and disliked asking strangers for help, so instead of doing the smarter thing, you did what everyone would do in your situation:
You tried the exact same thing you were doing for a few minutes now, getting on your tippy toes while reaching a hand out for the book and hoping for a different outcome.
Your fingertips brushed the back of the book but it wasn’t enough to grip it or even slightly move it.
You were about to give up when suddenly another hand reached out form right behind you and grabbed the book right off the shelf.
You blinked as the book was pulled away from your vision.
Since you were so focused on the book, you didn’t realize that someone had come up behind you to help you. Only now you felt warmth radiating from another body and the brush of a soft fabric against your shoulder when the book was pulled away.
Slowly you turned around, still not sure how to react to a situation that seemingly came right out of one of those romantic romcoms you guiltily loved to watch.
Your (e/c) eyes met golden ones.
While you must have worn a starstruck expression, the man before you grinned down at you. His white and black hair was spiked up in a way that you would expect from the protagonist of an anime. He was definitely build. You could tell, even though he was merely wearing a light sweater that slightly hung of his big frame and shorts that fitted the hot summer weather.
You were sure he was some kind of athlete or maybe he just won the lottery when it came to his genes.
Realizing that you must have stared at him for an uncomfortably long period of time, your eyes found their way into his face again.
His golden eyes held a friendly glint that somehow calmed you down.
“That’s the book you wanted, right?” The male who stood rather close to you, took a step back while also holding out the book to you.
Your gaze flickered to the book and you nodded.
Wow, could you be even more lame in front of an attractive guy? You needed to say something!
“I am sorry, if I startled you,” he didn’t seem to realize that it wasn’t just his actions that made you feel shy “but I´ve watched you struggle to get that book for a few minutes now and I thought it would be easier to help!” His voice was loud and bubbly and you were about to reply with a thank you, when suddenly his expression fell and he almost looked like he was about to panic.
“I mean, I wasn’t watching you in a creepy way! I promise, this is the first time I´ve ever seen you. I don’t go around campus watching random girls. I wouldn’t have noticed you if it wasn’t for your struggle. Not that I am saying that you aren’t worth noticing you! You are pretty! Now I sound like I am hitting on you but I swear I just wanted to help!” His wild display of nervousness somehow made you feel better. You couldn’t help but let out a giggle, which effectively shut him up and made him smile again.
“Oh, great. You are smiling” he stated the obvious.
“Yeah, I mean-, thank you! I really appreciate your help and it´s fine! I get what you are trying to say. I must have been a funny sight, though” you finally spoke your first words, blushing a little when you realized that you must have looked stupid to try the same thing again and again instead of coming up with a different solution.
“I wasn’t noticing because I thought it´s funny. I really just wanted to help you” he ensured you, his bright smile turned a little softer.
“That you did, so can I have the book?” You pointed at the object that was still in his hand.
“Oh, of course. Here!” he immediately shove it into your hand and you couldn’t help but smile at how eager he seemed to have done a good deed.
“Thanks” you said as you took it and for a moment there was silence between you two as neither of you knew what to say or do next.
Should you just say your goodbye and walk away? You didn’t want that. You didn’t know his name but what if you came off as too forward when asking for it? He might not be interested in getting to know you at all.
You shyly averted your eyes as you got lost in your own thoughts.
Bokuto bit his lip as he watched you. You were cute and while he definitely only came up to you to help him, he couldn’t deny that you were attractive to him.
He was about to say something else in order to keep the conversation going but before he could do so, someone called out his name.
“Bokuto, come on. We are going to be late,” it was one of his friends. He looked over in time to see how Akaashi quietly scolded the other for pretty much shouting within a library.
Not wanting to be scolded by Akaashi, he decided to wave over to them to signal that he would be there any moment.
“Well, I have to go. I hope to see you again!” He exclaimed excitedly, giving you another one of his bright smiles.
“S-sure,” you answered surprised as you watched him walk off. Your gaze shifted from the back of the boy to the book in your hand as a small smile appeared on your lips.
You would like to see him again as well.
-
“She was so cute! All shy but really nice and when I told her that I wanted to see her again, she said yes! I swear she is the prettiest girl on campus. I can´t believe I haven’t met her before,” when he, Akaashi, Kuroo and another friend of him were on their way from the library to the gym, Bokuto couldn´t help but take this as a chance to gush about you to Akaashi, who narrowed his eyes at his friend.
It wasn’t surprising that Bokuto showed interest in a pretty girl but he seemed a little too taken considering the fact that he knew you for like five minutes.
There was also something else that bothered the setter.
“So what is her name?” Within the last few minutes of Bokuto talking about you, he hasn’t mentioned your name once.
“Well, her name is-,“ the volleyball ace stopped as he processed the question. For a moment no one said anything as they waited for Bokuto´s answer which came in the form of his mood dropping drastically.
“I can´t believe it! I forgot to ask for her name,” he dramatically put his face in his hands as he couldn’t believe how stupid he was. How was he supposed to see you again, if he didn’t even know your name? He also didn’t have your number or knew your major. He knew absolutely nothing that could help him to find you and the campus was rather big.
“You are such an idiot,” Akaashi sighed as he watched his friend drown in his misery.
“And that, ladys and gentlemen, is why Bokuto won´t find a girl. He never asks the important questions.” Kuroo teased with a smirk on his face.

When you tell him you used to have a crush on him (pt. Two) (Kuroo ver.)
Pairing: Kuroo x reader
Wordcount: ca. 2700 words
Genre: fluff
A/N: This wasn´t supposed to become this long! Don´t expect the other ones to be like this but I am not done with those, so who knows what happens. This literally wnet from I don´t know what to write to maybe I should stop now.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the second and final part!
Part One: Kuroo
Other Versions: Atsumu Oikawa
It´s been a few weeks since you accidently told Kuroo about your past feelings
You weren’t sure if you were disappointed or not, but nothing changed since then
The evening had been a bit awkward but when you saw each other the next day it was like you didn’t confess at all
Only one little thing changed and that were your thoughts about dating
Ever since high school you were hung up on Kuroo which was why you didn’t even consider to go for anyone else
But when you confessed last week (kind of) and Kuroo didn’t even seem to care that you used to have feelings for him, you realized that it was a lost cause and that you should just move on
That’s how you ended up in the situation you were in right now
You asked a friend of yours who knew a lot of people to set you up with someone. You knew a blind date wasn’t ideal but sitting around at home, watching romantic comedies while asking yourself why you couldn’t have that kind of relationship wasn’t ideal, too
The date was tonight, so all you had to do was getting ready and surpringly your best friend was very interested in helping you do so
“How comes that you suddenly decide to date? And why starting off with a blind date?” Kuroo questioned as he watched you adjusting your outfit in the mirror while he himself sat on your bed, which was crowded with pieces of cloth you had tried on already.
“I guess, I got inspired when we were studying last week,” you admitted as you pulled at the hem of your skirt. You decided to go with a shirt that you tucked into the skirt you were wearing. You wanted to look nice but you also didn’t want to overdo it.
“Talking about your past feelings for me makes you want to go out with other guys? Wow, I must have been a bad crush,” the dark-haired male joked while letting one of his hands run through his own hair. It wasn’t like it could get any messier.
You froze when he mentioned your “past” crush but tried not to show it.
“No, not exactly. You asked me why I don’t date, and I think you are right. Why do I not go on dates?” Because the guy you wanted was sitting on your bed right now, “I always wanted a meaningful relationship,” and you knew you couldn’t have it with him, “but I wont be able to find someone just by staying home.”
“I get where you are coming from but why a blind date? You don’t know anything about this guy,“ the male continued to complain while you tried to get your hair to look as good as possible.
“He is a friend of Mina. What is the worst that could happen?” When those words left your lips you weren’t sure if you were trying to comfort him or yourself. Ever since you decided to do this, you were full of nerves. You weren’t exactly good at meeting new people and the thought of having to get to know someone while being on a date made you want to throw up.
“Considering that we are talking about one of Mina´s friends, a lot,” you knew exactly what he was playing at. While Mina herself was a bubbly and overall friendly girl, she had the habit to befriend the weirdest people.
“She knows me well. I am sure she knows not to set me up with some kind of creep” you pointed out, putting on a necklace or at least you tried to.
Kuroo saw your struggle and immediately got up to help.
“Let me” he mumbled as he reached out for the thin material. Without hesitation you pulled your hands away to let him take over. You kept your gaze at the big mirror in front of you as you watched him adjust the necklace. You knew it was a foolish thought but as you watched the two of you in the mirror, you couldn’t help but think that you would look good together.
It also didn’t help that you felt his fingers brush against the sensitive skin of your neck, sending shivers down your back that you tried to hide as much as possible.
When he was done, he made sure to pull your hair back from the side he had put it at and let it flow over your shoulders once more.
His hands slipped on your arms as his eyes left your form to gaze into the mirror.
“Beautiful” he mumbled as he stared at your reflection. Your eyes met as he said so and you couldn’t help but blush at his comment. It shouldn’t surprise you. Even though you were just friends, Kuroo always made sure to tell you that you were pretty.
You used to answer by telling him that he was just saying this because friends were obliged to boost your confidence like that. He didn‘t take that well.
“I am not obligated to anything. I just call it as I see it and honestly, every guy who doesn’t see how pretty you are must be blind”
That made you never question him again.
The two of you stared at one another for a few more seconds before your alarm rang. Your eyes shifted to your phone as you hurried over to find it and stop the noise.
It was time to go and if you weren’t nervous before, you were right now. Was this really the right thing to do? Kuroo wasn’t wrong. You didn’t know the guy but what if he was exactly what you needed. You would only be able to find out by going.
The black-haired male observed you for a few seconds as you seemed to be frozen while staring at your phone. He knew you well enough to know that you were probably considering to dip out.
As much as he wanted to encourage you to do exactly that and spend the night with him, he knew that would be wrong.
He was your best friend and your happiness should come first always.
“Come on, you have to go or you will be late. The first impression counts, you know?” The male softly scolded you. Upon hearing the male´s voice you seemed to break out of your train of thoughts.
“Do you think this is a good idea? I want your honest opinion” you voice sounded almost timid as you turned towards him.
The male sighed.
“Listen, I know I joked about him being a psychopath all week-“
“Don’t forget serial killer, kidnapper and-“
“I´ve got it, I said a lot of stupid stuff but honestly, you will be fine. You will go there and get to know this guy. If you like him then that’s a win and if you don’t, you have my number”
Right, you could always call him.
“Fine, you are right. For once I shouldn’t overthink this. It’s not like a have to marry him at the end of the night” you awkwardly laughed at your own joke as you grabbed your purse.
“Better not because I haven’t prepared my speech about all the embarrassing things you have done within the years I´ve known you” he grinned as you softly slapped his upper arm.
“Shut up, its bold of you to assume that you would be allowed to hold a speech at my wedding”
“and its stupid of you to assume that I wouldn’t just grab a mic and do it regardless of what you think” he fired right back, which made you laugh.
You could imagine it.
“I really need a new best friend” you mumbled, your bright e/c eyes meeting his dark ones.
“Well, only if that means I get an upgrade” Kuroo teased, his eyes glinting mischievously. Your heartbeat picked up at that suggestion. You waited for him to continue, saying something along the lines of him just being joking and that you would have to deal with him as your best friend forever but that never happened.
Instead, he was just staring at you, almost expectantly as he wished to hear something you couldn’t say at that moment.
“I should probably go” you whispered after a few more seconds. He silently nodded, swallowing down the words that were about to escape him.
You made your way over to the door, you opened it and with a soft goodbye you closed it.
Kuroo watched the door fall into the lock. The noise almost startling him as it snapped him out of his thoughts.
The silent of the apartment was suffocating but he promised he would wait here in case the date went bad and you needed to talk to him. It was almost ridiculous how anxious this date made you but at the same time he couldn’t blame you as you missed out on that experience in high school while you were still crushing on him.
Was this how you felt when he was out and about with other girls?
He frowned as he sat down on your bed once more. Was this how it would be from now on? Even if this date went bad, there would be others. Truth be told, he never had to deal with any kind of jealousy since him and the members of the volleyball team had been the only guys within your life, with him usually being the one who received most of the attention.
When he mentioned dating a week ago, he was trying to see your reaction in order to give him a clue if you could be interested. When you started to talk about your feelings and how they were in the past he was too thrown off to do anything. Instead he chose to ignore the conversation. That was until you came up to him four days later and asked him pick out an outfit for a date.
He should have confessed then and there but he chose to play best friend like he had done the years before and answered all your questions about the topic while also making sure you would look gorgeous tonight, not that you needed help to achieve that anyway.
“Fuck it” he muttered as jumped off your bed and reached for his phone and keys. If he was fast enough, he might be able to catch you before you even reach the restaurant. If he was too late, he would think about what to do then.
The male ran out of the apartment complex, intending on going to the restaurant to ruin your date when a voice stopped him.
“Tetsu?” He halted in his steps, slowly turning around as his mind rattled in confusion. He was hearing things now, wasn‘t he?
When he finally faced the other way his eyes met your e/c ones which seemed to panic the moment you made eye contact.
You averted your eyes as your mind tried to come up with an excuse what the hell you were doing here since you were supposed to be on your way to your date.
Truth be told, when you left the building, you felt absolute sick to the stomach, and you knew the cause wasn’t the date alone. You couldn´t go to a date while still being head over heels for Kuroo. It wasn´t fair to the boy nor was it fair to yourself but you also knew you couldn´t be hung up on him forever. The most logical thing you came up with was to cancel the date and find a way to confess to Kuroo.
The chances were high that he would reject you but at least you knew for sure then.
What you didn’t expect was Kuroo running out of the building like a mad man. You called out to him out of instinct and only when he acknowledged you, you realized you weren’t ready for this kind of confrontation. That was also why you were still here, standing in the cold, even though your warm apartment was right there.
“Y/N?” He questioned, furrowing his eyebrows “, are you alright? Did something happen?” His first instinct was to worry since he couldn’t come up with a positive reason why you would linger outside of the building.
“I am completely fine, Tetsu” you assured the guy as he came closer to you.
“Then what are you doing here? Shouldn´t you be at the restaurant? Don´t tell me he canceled last minute?” By the tone of his voice, you could tell that he grew irritated with your date.
“It´s not that. To be honest, I was the one who called and canceled” you admitted, your fingers were playing with the hem of your jacket in a nervous manner.
“What? Why?”
“I couldn’t do it” it was a simple sentence, but it made both of your hearts beat faster. Silence surrounded you as your words hang in the air.
You tried to figure out how to follow up your statement while Kuroo tried to interpret your words.
His eyes met yours and when they did, he couldn’t help but feel hopeful. You looked at him with a mix of nervousness and anxiousness but underneath those emotions, he swore he saw more.
“Tetsu, I have to tell you something. It´s something I should have said years ago, but I wasn’t brave enough and very unsure about it, but I feel like I need to say it before I-, you know, move on, so what I am trying to say-“
“I like you” the black haired male interrupted your speech, immediately shutting you up as you processed those three meaningful words.
“You like me?” You asked, wanting to make sure you heard him correctly.
“Fuck, I know I probably shouldn’t have interrupted you because it sounded a lot like you were trying to confess but I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I like you. I always have or at least for those last few years. I just never knew how to bring it up, but I realized now that by not saying it I might lose my chance the same way I lost it a few years ago when you didn’t confess” he hurried to get those words out before anything could stop him. Clearly stressed, he pushed a hand through his hair. His dark eyes watched you for a reaction, anything really.
To say you were overwhelmed would be an understatement. It felt like your heart would give out as your cheeks turned red. Your hands started to shake, and your mind tried to search for the right words to bring this confession to the perfect ending but halfway through you decided that this was already as perfect as it could be.
“I like you too and god, I like you so much” energized due to what just occurred, you came forward, throwing your arms around the male´s neck. Kuroo caught you easily by wrapping his arms around your waist.
His grip tightened around you, trying to bring you as close as possible as he nuzzled his nose into your shoulder.
Both of you couldn’t believe how long it took to finally end up like this.
“I am so happy” you mumbled, burying your own face in his shoulder.
“Me too, kitten. Me too” he replied, a grin adorning his face.
Ever since the two of you became friends, you felt the most comfortable in his presence. It wasn’t any different right now.
His embrace felt like heaven. The warmth of his body was such a contrast to the cold air of the night that it made you shudder. His hold felt strong and safe, almost like home and maybe that’s what he always felt like: home.
The two of you slowly pulled away but refraining from letting go of one another. You gave him a bright smile as one of his hands came up to hold your cheek.
You let out a nervous breath as you anticipated what was to come and you weren‘t disappointed. Seconds later Kuroo leaned in, slow enough to give you time to pull away but still fast enough to shock you when you suddenly felt his soft lips on yours.
You closed your eyes as you enjoyed the new sensation of warmth that spread through your entire body.
After a moment the male pulled away, putting his forehead on yours while giving you his infamous grin.
You let out a giggle.
He definitely felt like home.

The Soulmate Games - Oikawa x Reader (Pt. One)
Pairing: Oikawa x reader
Wordcount: ca. 5900 words
Genre: fluff, angst (not really), Soulmate Au
Summary: A countdown to your happy ever after. Something that is a dream to most people is a nightmare to those who don't believe in an happy end. But how can you avoid a part of your life that was always supposed to be there? Exactly, you just try to keep the clock ticking.
Disclaimer: Haikyuu and its characters don't belong to me.
Author´s note: IMPORTANT! For the very unlikely case you recognize this first chapter, I´ve posted it before on my old account on Wattpad that actually focuses on other stuff. I haven´t stolen it! As you will see, it´s gone from Wattpad and if you don´t believe me and actually know with what account I´ve posted it before you can go over there and slide in my dms. I will gladly tell you once more that this is my story!
“I guess, I am your soulmate”
“Y-yeah and you are mine”
“Wait, that was what you were saying in the first place. I am sorry, I can’t help but be nervous,” a soft laugh left the lips of the girl that sat only one lunch table away from you and your friends. Her eyes were almost sparkling as she gazed at the friendly male that stood right in front of her.
Even though soulmates meetings like this weren’t anything new and were part of daily life, people still had to observe when two lucky people finally met after waiting all their life for this specific moment.
No matter how common it was, it never lost its magic and that was something even you had to admit. Still, gazing at the new formed couple that awkwardly got to know each other, you didn’t realize how your friend that sat to your right gave you a teasing grin.
“You know, this is going to be you one day, and I hope that I will be able to be there to record the entire thing. Just so I can repeat the exact moment your frown turns into a lovestruck grin,” she taunted, slightly nudging your side with her elbow.
At that you huffed, turning your gaze back to your food instead, to hide the small blush that threatened to turn your cheeks rosy.
“24 days. That’s more than enough time to leave the country,” you muttered, playing with your food.
“You make it sound so easy. Maybe this is exactly what you need to be doing to find him. He might be a Peruvian farmer” your friend across of you joked. When you lifted your gaze to glare at him, your face turned into an expression of disgust.
“At least swallow your food before speaking,” you retorted but unfortunately, he just waved you off.
“He is right, though. The universe has mysterious ways to bring people together,” Mina, your girl best friend agreed “,but Y/N is right. Stop talking with food in your mouth, Ray. It´s disgusting!” She added, frowning at the male as well.
“After five almost run ins you are telling me that this guy is a foreigner? I am fairly sure he is at least from Miyagi” you reminded them.
“Well, maybe you should read the newspapers and be on the lookout for any farmer-conferences” Ray joked, making Mina laugh out loud.
“You are so weird” you clicked your tongue before standing up. The lunch break was almost over and if you were honest with yourself, you weren’t very hungry anymore anyway. Grabbing your tray, you were on your way to put in back but then you stopped in your tracks and walked back once more.
“And stop making fun of farmers. Without them you wouldn’t be able to eat most of your favorite foods as well as this apple” you scolded the boy before snatching the apple right off his own tray.
You might not be hungry now but maybe you would be later.
-
Soulmates really were a crazy thing and to you just another part of life to stress about. Just that this part was really annoying and unfortunately really persistent.
It wasn’t something you talked about to a lot of people – not that many would care anyway – but you were one of those people who tried to avoid the destined meeting at any cause.
How was that even possible?
You liked to treat this like a game and the rules were rather easy. You had a timer on your right wrist that showed the exact moment you would meet your significant other. The goal was to keep that countdown from hitting zero or else it would be game over.
And there was no restart button.
The ways to reach that goal were endlessly and still there was never a guarantee to win. Actually, the chances to lose and give in to the universe were much more likely than getting away.
Some deemed it even as impossible. There were countless studies of those people who had their timers going up again just shortly before they were supposed to meet their soulmate. Some thought that those few minutes just before the meeting were some sort of “space of possibilities”. The universe somehow brought you close but now you and your soulmate needed to make the right choices to find one another. It´s commonly said that the easiest way to pass that time was to act naturally and not to waver from what you wanted to do. So, in some way you would meet your soulmate instinctual.
But all this also meant that you could try to cheat destiny and make decisions to bring the timer back up again. The most obvious choices weren’t always the right ones, though. You heard countless stories but one that stuck out for you was about a woman who decided to stay home all day because she didn’t want to meet her soulmate yet. Her neighbor somehow set fire to their apartment complex and the firefighter who saved her from the fire turned out to be her soulmate.
She had to decide to die or go with her soulmate. Even you would have given that one to the universe, if you were in such a situation that was.
But what were the right choices then? There weren’t any. It was a game that was purely based on luck and instinct.
That was only one view though. The other claimed that even those cases were planned by the universe. To put it easy, they thought the universe was sort of teasing you by bringing your soulmate so close just to let them slip away again. It would be rather cruel but deemed as necessary by those who absolutely believed in the bound of soulmates.
You didn’t really know how to feel about it. You hoped that the universe gave you a little span of time to decide for yourself how to act but you couldn’t be sure since soulmates never meeting was still rare.
Even people who didn’t want to have a soulmate - and there were a lot – met them at some point but separated from them to pursue their own lives.
That seemed plausible and easy enough. You could do that as well. Meeting him once and never having to be frightened by the small numbers that were slowly ticking down on your wrists again.
Unfortunately, it was way more complex.
You hadn’t been always against the idea of soulmates. As a little girl you couldn’t wait to find the one. Someone to tell all your secrets to, to do romantic stuff with that you saw on TV and just someone to stand by you.
That kind of thinking didn’t change for the most part of your life. Only 3 months ago your feelings started to waver.
You didn’t need to lie to yourself. You had a lot of problems. Problems you only enclosed to your closest friends and mostly concerned your state of mind.
It started with seeing how your parents – two soulmates – broke apart by the selfish actions of your father. You watched him walk away from your mother and yourself just when you hit the age of 9. He never tried to contact you again.
Suddenly soulmates didn’t seem so unbreakable anymore.
It continued with you being mocked and bullied a lot through middle school. You, always being the odd one out, even though you tried your hardest to fit in.
Suddenly you started to see yourself in a different light.
Words that didn’t have any truth behind them turned people against you. People you trusted didn’t believe in you and people you reached out to rejected you without thinking twice.
Suddenly you feared feeling this lose again, making you too scared to reach out for people that might be able to bring you back on the right path, because what if they didn’t?
You started to get in more fights with your family and especially your mother. You knew deep down that she loved you but the words she carelessly threw at you every so often started to reflect on what you actually thought what you were until you started to believe that you were exactly that.
Suddenly you were selfish, arrogant, cold-hearted, replaceable, and unlovable.
Suddenly you didn’t think that you would be good for your soulmate.
It wasn´t like you have given up on yourself. You knew you had problems but you also knew that you could overcome them. You just needed time.
You tried hard to work on yourself and at least some wounds seemed to heal but far too slowly to let them show.
In started getting better in high school.
You were able to make few but good friends. While you never could win the crowd for you, there were people who liked you.
Seeing as you started to do better, you started to believe that someday you would be ready to face your soulmate and you hoped that the universe would acknowledge that. After all, through your first two years of high school you didn’t even get close to meeting him once. The timer never jumped and when you were in your second year, it still read about 7 years.
It comforted you to know that you had time to become a better version of yourself before meeting him, but everything changed within your first week of your third year.
You remembered waking up one morning just like always. Sleepily, you had managed to get into the bathroom and soon you were brushing your teeth. Only then you saw that the timer changed drastically. You furrowed your eyebrows as you stopped moving altogether.
You had glared at it for a moment before your brain finally processed the information and then your anxiety hit you.
2 days, 4 hours, 3 minutes. 22 seconds.
Since you were still soulmate-less it was obvious that you had never met him but knowing that just one wrong choice would have thrown you into something you were not ready for spiked your anxiety every single time.
It happened a lot after that.
Four more times to be exact and every time you felt like those few minutes just before the apparent meeting were the worst of your life.
At the same time, you were well aware that this wasn’t fair to your soulmate. He might actually be looking forward to meeting you and you were pretty much crushing his hopes. Maybe you were selfish after all, and you were a coward. That made you think that you needed to work on yourself and your self-esteem especially – which in return made you pull away even more in order to protect yourself from those fears and worries. You knew that this also wasn’t right which spiked your anxiety yet again-
It was a circle of wild emotions you could not control yet and with every time this circle repeated you started to feel more hesitant to submit to your destiny since your soulmate must be annoyed by you as well. Perhaps he already had enough of your nonsense before even meeting you.
So, the short answer to why you would not just meet him and tell him off was because deep down you wanted to meet him and didn’t want to throw your chance with your soulmate away, but you were too scared to face him yet.
-
His brown eyes stared intensely on the small timer on his wrist that was inked into his skin. He watched the seconds go down almost mindlessly but in truth there was a lot on his mind.
Since the nationals would be coming up soon and this would be the last chance for him to actually participate, he didn’t have too much time to think about other facets of his life.
It hadn’t been too long ago that the male would ignore the timer and just accept it to be there. That was mostly because of the amount of time he still had left to meet his soulmate.
Back then he believed that he still had years before having to take on that chapter. So, his time was completely filled with volleyball.
He didn’t know what happened exactly but someday the numbers on his wrist sprang to a significantly shorter time than it had been the day before.
It was unexpected and threw him completely off. For the first time something or rather someone seemed to rival with volleyball as his first and foremost priority.
Still, he couldn’t exactly be mad at that. He always wanted to meet his soulmate, wishing for true love and a person he could do all this cute soulmate stuff with he so often saw on TV or even in ads.
He was absolutely ready to find his soulmate and make her the happiest person alive.
If there wasn’t this little problem.
“Staring at it won´t make your runaway magically appear, you know?” one of his teammates joked as they passed him by at their way to the gym.
His soulmate apparently didn’t want to meet him.
Runaway-Soulmate or short just “Runaway” was what the people started to call his soulmate without even knowing her.
What got you this lovely nickname?
Well, when Oikawa noticed the change of his timer, he was quick to announce it to the members of his team. He was smart enough to not let it slip with everyone else since he wanted to avoid a crowd of girls stalking him an entire day just to somehow turn into his soulmate.
They clearly didn’t understand the concept of soulmates since they´ve met him plenty of times but their timers were still ticking away.
Anyway, that day he was over the moon and even thought about words to say to her. He also considered to buy something for her like flowers but what if she was allergic? Or just didn’t like them?
That was a struggle that busied him for almost the entire school day.
Well, back to the important things: he was excited and the harder it hit him when he somehow didn’t meet her. The happy-go-lucky boy for once struggled to keep up his act.
Back then, his members felt bad for him and tried to cheer him up by telling him that he would get another chance soon.
“It was probably just bad luck,” one of them would say.
And he believed those words. It wasn’t that strange that the first attempt on meeting failed. So, he waited patiently for the next chance to come around which wasn’t much of a wait really.
After that memorable day, his timer showed 5 days, 2 hours, 4 seconds.
He was surprised that he apparently was going to meet his soulmate while practice but on the other hand that would be a great opportunity to impress her immediately!
She never showed up, though. There was a person he met and at first he believed the girl was the one, but with a swift look at her timer and the fact that she arrived way too early, he knew that this person wasn’t his soulmate.
This was the second failure.
It didn’t get better from then on. Every time he prepared himself to finally meet you, it didn´t happen.
After the third attempt, even his teammates couldn’t hold themselves back anymore and started to joke around.
“Maybe she has a feeling how much of a whiny kid you are”
“I would run, too, if you were the one, I would be stuck with forever”
“Maybe your fan-girls are keeping her in their dungeon”
He got why they thought the situation was funny. Especially because Oikawa of all people had to deal with such a problem.
Someone who was adored by countless of girls that would ditch their actual soulmates for him and someone a lot of other people, his teammates included, thought was incredible annoying with how arrogant and entitled he could act.
It still hurt a little from time to time to think that his soulmate didn’t want him. After the fourth time, he even thought about forgetting this entire soulmate thing but last time, which counted the fifth time, he still was on the lookout for his soulmate or a person that was suspiciously running away from him for that matter.
Well, he didn’t exactly know how she managed to avoid him this often, but he was determined to break their streak and get them to tell him why the hell she was playing this game.
Right after hugging her to death, of course.
-
Unbeknownst to Oikawa, the two of you always had been closer than he anticipated, and you were comfortable with.
The first time, he was at the park with some of his teammates after practice and you happened to be there going for a run. Unfortunately, when you saw the crowd of people within the park, you suddenly panicked and started to run off track and pretty much just passed him by a few meters, hidden by bushes and trees.
So yeah, that time you were literally running away from him.
The second time, he was at practice, and you were right outside the gym. Your friend happened to be friends with Iwaizumi and came to drop something off. You didn’t tell her that you were supposed to meet your soulmate that day, so when you told her you would wait outside since you felt a little dizzy, she didn’t question you.
You were simply happy that you avoided a crowd of boys that potentially could have happened to be your soulmate.
The third time was much closer than the two of you could even comprehend. Against your own will, you were at a café near your school with Mina and Ray. You were just making your way back from the counter when Oikawa came from the bathroom.
You were mere seconds away from meeting but (un)fortunately a guy suddenly stepped in front of you, making you spill your drink on his shirt. Oikawa was even turning his head to look at the little accident that just happened right in front of his eyes, but he suddenly got crowded by some of his fan girls, making it hard to see what exactly happened.
You pretty much stood back-to-back to each other for a few minutes, only separated by some girls.
That time it was truly pure luck.
The fourth time happened to be at your own school. Ever since the café accident you tried to hide your timer from your friends since they were ready to pin you down, if that was what it took to make you meet your soulmate.
As mentioned before, Mina was friends with Iwaizumi and him and Oikawa came to pick you guys up. Back then you didn’t know them.
But you knew that every meeting could end with a potential soulmate, so you panicked when you found out that Iwaizumi´s friend was as soulmate-less as you. Mina didn’t know that you were supposed to meet him today. Instead, you had told her that tomorrow would be the day and made an effort to wear your sweater in order to hide the numbers.
Mina was already waiting outside your school with the two males, but you didn’t dare to go out there. You called her and told her that you forgot to buy milk for your mom and that you were already at the supermarket, when in truth you were still hiding away in your classroom.
She scoffed but bought your excuse. When she left with the two boys, she also missed the way Oikawa´s face would turn sour when he yet again didn’t get to meet his soulmate.
Iwaizumi decided not to comment on it, knowing that it wasn’t something Oikawa wanted to enclose to any other than his team.
The fifth chance didn’t take too long to arrive. It also proved fruitless but at least it gave Oikawa some inside. Once again, he found himself at another school. To be exact, your school. The one he was supposed to meet you last time.
He was absolutely sure that whoever his soulmate was, they were going to that school but that didn’t make it easier at all. After all, it was a big school, and he couldn’t just freely roam the place.
He was only here to have a game against the school´s team in the first time. So, if his soulmate wasn’t watching the game or near the gym in general, he had a slim chance to corner them. Not to forget that they might have heard about this game and might avoid it on purpose since new people were always a risk.
He tried to understand her way of thinking in hopes that at some point he could turn the tables, but he knew that it wasn’t an easy task and most likely wouldn’t be succeeded today.
He knew that because this morning his timer jumped yet again. He was surprised when that happened since it was unusual for a timer to jump randomly.
When you noticed that, though, you were enlightened. When you found out you weren’t feeling well this morning and called in sick, you panicked, fearing that your house would catch on fire and that your soulmate would come and save you.
“Iwaizumi! Oikawa!” Mina called out to the two boys who walked ahead of their team. Oikawa faked a smile as he saw the girl in hopes of appearing normal.
“Hey” Ray, a friend of her, greeted them as well with a friendly smile.
“Are you ready to lose?” the female teased with a confident smile.
“As if,” Iwaizumi huffed as his eyes scanned the two people before him. “Where is Y/n? I thought the three of you were attached to the hip while school?”
Y/N
By now Iwaizumi had already met you.
Oikawa on the other hand never got even a glimpse of you but he heard of you.
“She actually has a cold. This girl is unbelievable. I bet she got it while running through the rain. She forgot her umbrella yet again but instead of letting Ray walking her home, she just ran,” she pouted while crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“And you could have been a little bit more persistent about it,” she gave Ray a side glance which the male returned with a frown.
“You know how she is. Once she decided on something she keeps going. How do you think does she manage to outru-,“
“Guys, are you coming?” The captain of your school´s team called out to them, interrupting Ray in the process.
“Yeah, sure!” Mina
-
Those 5 situations caused the predicament you were in right now. Once again your timer was close to hitting zero and this time the time was rather odd but at the same time it wasn’t, considering that a festival took place.
That meant that most people would spend their evenings dressed up in traditional Japanese cloths, going from booth to booth and just enjoying themselves.
It was fun and usually you were all for it but this year you couldn’t shake off the anxiety for the entire time you were there.
Yet again, the universe wanted to unify you with your soulmate and unfortunately your friends knew, too, which meant that new players arrived and now you had to trick them while avoiding your soulmate at a place with hundreds of people.
Sounded easy enough, right?
It wasn’t. From all the times you had to deal with your soulmate this one was the worse. You couldn’t help but stare at your timer every few seconds just to realize that it didn’t even take 10 minutes anymore.
Your eyes shifted to your friends that walked on your right and left side. Almost like they wanted to keep you from running off. Who were you kidding? This was exactly what they were doing.
“How about we get something to eat. I am hungry,” you told them, hoping to distract them from their task at hand.
Mina´s gaze was sharp when your eyes met.
“I am not a prisoner, you know?” you huffed in annoyance.
“You are. You are cheating destiny. That should be illegal,” she snickered but the three of you still made your way to some stall with crepes.
Not too far off, Oikawa and Iwaizumi were walking down the road as they were deciding what to do next. Admittedly, Oikawa wasn’t really paying attention to his friend since he instead analyzed the people around him.
It´s a habit he picked up over time. He hoped that at some point a person would stand out. Maybe he would be able to spot someone, he saw the other times he was supposed to meet his soulmate. After all, it was proven that just looking at your soulmate wasn’t a trigger. There were two ways to meet your soulmate. Either making eye contact or bumping into each other.
Unfortunately, no one stuck out to him.
He was interrupted when Iwaizumi suddenly called out to him.
“Are you listening, Shittykawa?” Oikawa flinched since the male screamed at him while standing right next to him. He was surprised that he still didn’t have any problems with his ears, considering how often was yelled at.
“Of course, I am” he lied right through his teeth. The spiker rolled his eyes but decided to not argue any more.
“Mina, Ray and Y/N are over there,” the male pointed over to three figures. The captain´s eyes followed were Iwaizumi´s finger was pointing. He recognized two of them immediately.
The one in the pink kimono was Mina and the male in green Yukata was Ray. But in between those two stood a girl he hadn’t seen before. The girl wore a violet kimono. He couldn’t see her face since she stood with her back to him, but he could tell that the kimono accentuated her (h/c) nicely.
So that was the mysterious Y/N.
He felt a strange feeling overcome him while gazing at her, but he still managed to put on a carefree smile while approaching the group.
Inconspicuous, his eyes shifted down to where his timer was located.
15 seconds.
It couldn’t be her all along, could it?
“Mina, Ray!” Iwaizumi called out.
-
While your friends were ordering food, your eyes were glued to your wrist.
30 seconds.
29 seconds.
28 second.
27 seconds.
Your heartbeat picked up and you felt like throwing up. You would be meeting your soulmate every moment and this time you couldn’t just run away from the crowd and hope that this would stop the universe from setting you up.
26 seconds.
25 seconds.
24 seconds.
23 seconds.
He probably was close by now. How would you meet? What would you say? Would he be mad? Would you have to explain yourself on the spot? Would he humiliate you by rejecting you in front of the crowd? You kind of deserved it but that didn’t mean you were fine with it.
Your breath started to exhilarate and with every second that passed you felt like you might not be able to meet your soulmate after all because you were about to get a heart attack.
22 seconds.
21 seconds.
20 seconds.
19 seconds.
You weren’t ready. You weren’t ready. You weren’t ready. You weren’t-
“Mina! Ray!” A voice called out that you were able to recognize as Iwaizumi´s. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Ray turning around, greeting him.
It was just Iwaizumi. He already found his soulmate, He-
“Iwaizumi, Oikawa. Nice to meet you here,”
Oikawa?
10 second.
9 seconds.
8 seconds.
7 seconds.
6 seconds.
“Hey guys, didn’t know you would be here tonight, or I would have asked you to meet up at some point” Mina who had turned around as well laughed. Most of the time you thought her laugh was cute but somehow it rung in your ears like it was mocking you.
4 seconds.
3 seconds.
“Y/N. Don’t be so rude. I know you are shy, but you could at least look at them,” your friend scolded you. You gulped as you closed your eyes. You saw the timer. You knew what would await you if you were to turn around.
Your heart wasn’t the only one that wanted to beat out of its chest. Oikawa felt the same way as he was approaching you guys. His gaze was fixed on you. Determination burning in those chocolate brown eyes.
This had to be it. You had to be it.
Both you and Oikawa were literally breathless as you slowly started to turn around.
Finally, the two of you would-
A strong push made you collie into Ray´s chest and a scream of Mina that her purse was gone alarmed the people around you, including Oikawa and Iwaizumi.
Out of instinct, the males started to run after the male that stole from your friend and that tackled you out of the way.
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” Ray who had caught you looked down at you worried. You looked up at him with a shocked face before your eyes went down to inspect your wrist.
This couldn’t be. What if your soulmate was a thief? A bump counted as meeting and as far as you were concerned, he hit you the second you were supposed to meet your soulmate.
You sighed in relief when you realized that your timer was still intact. It had jumped again. 2 days, 18 hours, 59 minutes, and 38 seconds.
Ray caught on rather fast on what was going on and when he saw that your timer was still ticking, he couldn’t help but be relived as well. While he also wanted you to finally meet your soulmate, he probably would have lost his mind if his best friend was destined to be with a criminal.
“I see you´re good,” he chuckled to which you gave a nod.
“Yeah, I don’t care about the bruise I will probably have by tomorrow as long as it wasn’t him” you answered finally pushing yourself off the male. Mina who watched the two of you, pouted.
“I am fine too guys. Thanks for the concern” she informed you, sarcasm was pretty much dripping off her voice.
“Come on, we all know that we need to be more worried about the thief, if you ever get a grip on him” Ray teased, knowing that Mina had a short temper and as well as a background in Taekwondo. No one should mess with her.
“I guess so. Anyway, I still hope that Iwaizumi and Oikawa catch him. I hate how those thieves target people at a place that’s supposed to bring joy” Mina frowned.
When the name Oikawa fell from her lips you almost jumped.
The timing was perfect. Just a second more and you would have met him when you were supposed to meet your soulmate.
“I think I need to go home. I feel a little dizzy after all” you quickly put a hand to your head, hoping that they would believe your little act.
At the same moment Mina´s phone rang which she picked up immediately.
“Iwaizumi?” She spoke into the speaker of her phone. You didn’t really hear their conversation but considering the sour look on Mina´s face they didn’t catch the thief. Meanwhile Ray gave you a worried look.
“Should I walk you home?” The taller male asked, putting one hand on your shoulder in a way to comfort you.
“No, its fine. I don’t want to ruin the evening for you” you told him and you meant that. Just because you felt like hiding in your room for eternity, didn’t mean that your friends had to suffer as well.
“I think the evening was ruined by that scum that decided to steal my pursue. Luckily, he didn’t get my phone, but all my money and my Id was in there” she pouted “but really, I feel like going home as well. Ray, how about you take Y/N home and I meet up with the other boys before going home? I think that’s the best solution” the black-haired girl suggested.
“Okay but be careful on your way home,” Ray replied. He might act like an idiot a lot, but he was truly a good friend.
“I will make Iwaizumi take me home, don’t worry,” she chuckled. You waved at each other before you parted ways.
You and Ray walked next to each other in silence for a while. Usually that didn’t bother you since the two of you didn’t have to say anything all the time but this time it felt a little oppressing, almost like the male was holding something back.
That wasn’t like him, so you decided to ask about it.
“You know, if there is something you want to say then do so,” you mumbled, your eyes were fixed on the river that was flowing past the two of you. The moonlight reflected beautifully in it.
“Oikawa is your soulmate, isn´t he?” His words caught you by surprise. With slightly widened eyes you turned to the male who was already looking at you. His dark eyes seemed so serious as he gazed down at you.
“Well, maybe. I don’t know yet.”
“But it fit the moment perfectly. I don’t think Mina paid attention to it, but you were so worried that the thief was your soulmate after he bumped into you, meaning that it could have been only seconds before meeting your actual soulmate and of course you would have known that because the entire evening you were gawking at your timer.”
“And here I thought you didn’t pay attention to anything but food and videogames,” you tried to joke. “Maybe you should become a detective.”
“What do you think?”
“I don’t know. Since it isn’t any use to deny it, I will admit that it was close to the meeting with Oikawa but who knows? Maybe My soulmate is someone else who stood next to us. This accident really disrupted everything there. After all, the timing also would have worked for the thief, so it could have worker for Oikawa as well, without him being my soulmate”
You didn’t know if you were trying to convince Ray or yourself.
“That’s true”
-
Oikawa sat on his bed at home, already dressed in his nightwear while starring at his phone or to be more exact at his new contact.
After what happened at the festival, Oikawa decided to get the number of that Y/N. He knew there was no guarantee since soulmates were such a complex thing but something inside him told him that it was you. It had to be you.
With hesitant movements he finally tipped on the screen.
"Hey, here is your soulmate"
Your heart almost stopped when you read the message, sitting in your own room a few streets away from Oikawa´s house.
Your timer didn’t seem to be bothered.
Seemingly the universe didn’t foresee the advancement of technology.

I am alive
I´ve been gone for way too long. Sorry about that but the last few months were kind of eventful. Anyway, I am back with a few things. I dislike making promises because I know how easy those are to break as a writer but I´ve written a few things which are done, so I can at least promise you guys those.
There will be
A short Oikawa x reader series (Two parts are done, about three more to go)
Pt. 2 of the Kuroo version of you know what
A one-shot
and I´ve got a lot of new ideas. Of course, I know I also have to finish the Atsumu and Oikawa Version but those are only half done, so I haven´t added them yet. I will start of with the series and the other things will be published shortly after.

When you tell him you used to have a crush on him (Atsumu ver.)
Pairing: Atsumu x reader
Genre: angst (kinda but not really)
Wordcount: 1900
A/N: First of all, thank you for all the support you showed the Kuroo ver. of this. I hope you enjoy this one too. I will drop Kuroo´s pt. 2 at some point next week, so stay tuned!
Other Versions: Oikawa Kuroo
- You two met when Suna forced you to become manager.
- Something about your duty as his best friend and since you were looking for a club to join anyway, you rolled with it
- At first you had a hard time to connect with Atsumu since his outgoing and flirty ways were pretty much the opposite of you
- You even avoided him at the beginning, feeling irritated by the way he seemed to be playing with you whenever you crossed ways
- Which he probably was since you´ve never seen him being serious about any girl
- This boy collected relationships like other people collected postcards
- Still, due to multiple training camps, study sessions, movie nights, late night practices and other things you got robbed into due to you being the manager, you eventually warmed up to the male
- You only had a crush on him in your second year and when the realization hit, it hit you like a truck
- You really, really didn’t want to be in love with him
- It wasn’t even because of his jerky attitude. By then, you knew him well enough to know that teasing was pretty much his love language and unfortunately it seemed like it was yours too. At least when it came to Atsumu.
- At some point your bickering became the highlight of your day
- But you knew his views on relationships and they didn’t add up with your expectations
- Other than most people, you didn’t judge him for his careless flirting. As long as both sides knew what they got into, he wasn’t leading anyone on and Atsumu always made his intentions clear.
- You didn’t judge him, but you wouldn’t be able to do it like him. You always dreamed of the Disney kind of love.
- True love, soulmates, love at first sight (even if that was something Atsumu couldn’t achieve) etc.
- Not to forget that a one-night stand or a careless relationship would probably ruin your friendship which you didn’t want
- Those were mostly the reasons you had never said anything. You weren’t compatible in romantic matters and your friendship was too important
- You also had the sneaking suspicious that you weren’t exactly his type since he seemed to be more in those confident, straight forward ones while you were more on the shier side
- So within those two years of having a crush you failed to make your feelings clear and high school was over now, meaning that the two of you would go different paths in life
- While he followed his dream to become a professional volleyball player, you decided to look for your purpose in another country.
- You were leaving to (c/n) in a few days
“I can’t believe ya are going to leave. I feel kind of betrayed” Atsumu pouted as he laid on his back on your bed, watching you pack. You rolled your eyes at his childish behavior. Ever since you told him about you leaving, he would be whiny about it.
You didn’t take it to heart though. He had always been a bit overdramatic.
“You are acting like we won´t see each other ever again. I am just leaving for a year” you reminded him while folding another one of your shirts.
“You obviously wouldn’t forget me, I mean we both now you love me,” if he just knew how much “,but don’t miss me so much that ya try to replace me with a new best friend or even a boyfriend,” he joked as he turned on his stomach to get a better look at you.
You let out a laugh.
“Excuse me? Suna is and always has been my best friend, so if anyone should worry about that, it would be him” you mused as you moved over to your dresser to look through it some more.
“Rude” the male huffed, even though you didn’t face him, you knew he was glaring at you.
“And about the boyfriend thing, I hope so! Can’t get any worse than with my first crush” you blurted out, without considering that the male didn’t know about your first crush or any crush at that.
“Wait, what? You had a crush on someone? Who? I always assumed, I don’t know, you were broken or something” you knew the last part was a joke which was why you weren’t hurt by it but you still sent him a glare.
He wasn’t even off. Maybe you were broken for liking a guy that’s this incompatible with you.
“Well, it´s been a while, so it isn´t worth talking about,” you gulped as you tried to reflect.
You hoped he would leave it at that, but that would be too easy.
“How comes you never said anything? I could have helped ya, ya know? I know a thing or two about dating” he boosted, making you want to slap a hand against your forehead. Not only would be completely useless in that specific case, but you also doubted that he would be helpful if you crushed on someone else.
You ran a hand through your hair as you considered your options. Maybe it would be easier to just get it out and over with. He couldn’t reject you anymore since it´s all in the past, right?
“That’s why Suna is my best friend” you joked, lifting a box out of your dresser, and putting it on your bed, right next to Atsumu and your open suitcase.
“That’s so mean, I´ve always told you about the girls I liked!” he complained at which you chuckled.
“Its not like you tried to hide it whenever you liked someone. You pretty much announced it to the entire school. It truly would have been hard to miss, even for people that weren’t friends with you” you exclaimed.
“Ya got me there,” he chuckled slightly “, but I am still curious. Come on, if its in the past, I can´t tease ya about it,” he gave you one of his famous grins and even though you didn’t want to, you couldn’t help but blush a little. You were able to cover it up by turning back to your dresser before he would be able to spot it.
“Something tells me you would tease me about it regardless” you mumbled in a low tone, but he still caught it.
Upon your words he raised himself in a sitting position, mustering you with a questioning gaze.
“Don’t tell me its Osamu! That’s a betrayal I wouldn’t forgive ya” unsurprisingly, he truly sounded offended when he accused you of liking his brother. They have always been competitive. You, liking his brother would probably be a blow to his ego.
“I wish” you muttered, this time saying it quietly enough to make sure he wouldn’t hear it.
“So?” he insisted to which you let out a sigh.
“It´s you, idiot. Samu definitely would have been the better choice but apparently I was into flirty volleyball nuts” you tried to sound as indifferent as possible. Your heart was almost jumping out of your chest while your mind was running miles a minute, fearing his respond.
“Me?” His voice suddenly sounded a lot softer, a tone you´ve never heard from him. That got you turning around, meeting his gaze for the first time since this topic was brought up.
“Yeah” it´s always been you.
You didn’t dare to speak your thoughts, instead of decided to just not say anything else.
“I always thought you only saw me as some kind of fuckboy, someone you could never be with,” his words threw you off since they sounded almost a little dejected.
“Well, its not like it was a conscious decision. It just happened. I guess, I just really enjoyed having you around and at some point, I didn’t want to be without you anymore, even though I knew we weren’t compatible” you explained, keeping your voice steady.
You never thought you would have this conversation with Atsumu.
“I can’t believe that I would get someone like ya to like me” you furrowed your eyebrows at that.
“Someone like me?”
Atsumu didn’t answer immediately. It was a rare sight but apparently the setter didn’t know what exactly to reply. Should he admit that he thought that you were too good? Or should he play it off like always?
He wasn’t good at being vulnerable, which was probably part of the reason why he didn’t have a serious relationship before. That and the fact that he never felt anything for all those girls.
They were pretty on the outside but that’s it. Maybe some of them even had decent personalities but he wouldn’t know because he didn’t care to get to know him.
That was just the dynamic he was comfortable with.
He kept those girls around to satisfy his physical needs. When it came to the emotional part, he didn’t need them. He had you.
Ever since he had met you, you had been there to make him smile. You were the one to cheer him on at games or give him an emotional speech when they lost. You would pull him out of the clouds when he started to reach too high.
You were the one he could trust.
He knew that his way of thinking was probably not healthy and pretty much set him up for heartbreak.
After all, both of you were moving forward in life and at some point, your friendship would change. Not that any of you would abandon the other but you would go different paths and meet new people.
It was only a matter of time until you would fall in love with another guy and then your focus would shift.
He feared that day ever since he realized how much he relied on you emotionally, how much he crafted your presence, how much he loved you.
That was also one reason why you leaving Japan felt like someone splashed ice cold water on him.
Hearing how you used to like him, hurt even more because he missed a chance at something special without even knowing.
“Okay, I get it. I am not your type, and you would never go for someone like me. I know, believe me, I know but could you stop acting like I just committed a crime? I didn’t think the thought of us together would be that disturbing to you” you tried to sound as sarcastic as possible, wanting to hide the insecurities that were bubbling up in you.
You always knew that you weren’t meant to be but his almost stoic reaction hurt the most. Atsumu was the type to laugh situations like this off, to make fun of another person to break the tension, so having him staring at you like you just grew a second head told you that he took the news worse than you thought he would.
Feeling hurt and rejected you decided to end the topic just when Atsumu was about to repl.
“Its not like it matters. My feelings for you are completely gone. You are just my annoying almost best friend, so don’t worry. Nothing is going to change. Well, besides the fact that I will be gone for a year,” you didn’t dare to look him in his eyes when those words left your lips. You came off harsher than you wanted to but you couldnt help it.
You were hurt and that always let to you becoming defensive. It was a bad habit of yours that you weren´t proud of.
If you just were aware of the fact that all you needed to do was look up.
His eyes would tell you everything you needed to know but you didn´t.
You are just my annoying almost best friend.
That hurt but like you, he wasn’t brave enough to voice it out directly.
He really missed his chance.

When you tell him you used to have a crush on him (pt. One) (Kuroo ver.)
Pairing: Kuroo x reader
Wordcount: 1600
Genre: angst (kinda but not really)
Part Two: Kuroo
Other Versions: Atsumu Oikawa
- The two of you knew each other since middle school.
- Like he did with Kenma he pretty much adopted your introverted ass and decided that you were his friend now.
- You didn’t complain.
- Due to him, you met so many wonderful people and became manager of the volleyball club of Nekoma. You considered those three years the best ones of your life.
- Also, pretty much all your best friends were made in that time and you could proudly say that you were still friends with them to this day.
- Some also went to university like you while you kept in contact with the rest thanks to social media.
- It was also easy to fall in love with Kuroo. You didn’t even know when exactly it happened.
- At some point you just realized that he was the love of your life.
- You never got to confess.
- Unfortunately, you were too late.
- It took you years, several pep talks and practice in front of your mirror as well as some internet forums that told you to go for it until you finally decided that you needed to tell him.
- You planned to do it after practice when you would walk home together.
- That was also the day Kuroo came into the gym announcing proudly that he had a girlfriend.
- She confessed to him, and he accepted her.
- You honestly had no idea he even had feelings for her or that the two knew each other but you didn’t question his decision.
- You could see why he would like her. She was extremely pretty with long shiny hair, big round eyes and cute smile and on top of that she was kind.
- It was the saddest day of your life but at the same time you were relived.
- You shivered at thought of what could have happened if you had actually confessed. He obviously didn’t like you, so maybe her confessing first even saved your friendship and in a strange way, you were thankful for that.
- Your friendship didn’t change since then.
- Now you were both university students though.
“Maybe you should try to date. I am actually surprised that you didn’t have a boyfriend back in high school. You were kind of popular” Kuroo gazed at your form on his bed as he was sitting at the floor, a book sitting in his lap as the two of you had one of your study sessions.
“First of all, I was only popular with you guys and second of all, it’s hard to date when you only have eyes for your best friend” you joked, not even realizing what you just told him since your mind was mostly occupied by the algebra problem in front of you.
Kuroo opened his mouth to make a snarky comment but closed it again as he finally registered your words or to be more exact, what they implied.
The male froze as his mind was thrown into a frenzy. He was your best friend but technically Kenma was very close to you, too. You never cared too much about terms or ranking your friends, so maybe you meant Kenma but what if you didn’t?
Thinking back on all the times you actually used the term best friend, you always referred to him.
Realizing that Kuroo was way to quiet, you looked up from your paper and gave him a questioning look. You slightly titled your head when you saw him pretty much staring holes into you. It was hard to read the meaning of it, though. He definitely stared but his eyes were glazed over, almost as if he was so deep in thought that he just blended everything out.
“Kuroo?” You called out to him and when he didn’t answer immediately you playfully threw your pencil at him, hitting his shoulder. That seemed to snap him out of it.
“You have a crush on me?”
Now it was your turn to freeze up. You recalled the words you carelessly threw out and couldn’t help but start to panic.
He wasn’t supposed to know.
He couldn’t know.
Your mind already went over all the worst-case scenarios that could play out within the next seconds.
From him laughing in your face and telling you that he would never like someone like you to him kicking you out of his dorm room and telling you to never show your face again.
Deep down you knew that those scenarios were ridiculous, but you didn’t have time to pounder about it. You needed to act quickly.
“Obviously not, idiot” you let out a giggle, hoping it sounded real, “we were talking about high school. Back then I liked you, but I am over it,” you lied, giving him a teasing grin that would hopefully do the job and make it seem like you were truly over your feelings for him.
The male slightly frowned but you tried not to think too much about his reaction.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice almost sounded cautious when he asked you that.
“Well, I planned on doing so” you decided to go with the truth this one time, “but the day I wanted to, you got together with Hana,” you still remembered the exact moment he told you about her as well as the feeling of your heart breaking into a million pieces. The worst thing had been that you couldn’t show your true feelings back then. You had to hide behind a smile and tell him how happy you were for him.
Just for a moment you frowned at the memory. You didn’t look heartbroken, but it was the first time you showed him at least a little how you truly felt.
“I guess, she kind of saved our friendship. I really dodged a bullet. I mean, imagine how awkward it would have been if I actually had confessed to you,” once more you chuckled, hoping to come off as casual as possible.
“I had no idea” Kuroo bit his bottom lip as he let those words out. How could he have known? You never dropped any hints. You were close and your behavior around him never shifted. When did you fall in love?
You were always a bit awkward when it came to affections, so he never read too much into it when you blushed when he ruffled your hair or when the two of you hugged.
Maybe that was the problem. The two of you had always been so close that the line between friends and lovers wasn’t as clear anymore.
“It´s fine, Kuroo. I´ve never blamed you. You can´t force feelings. I fell in love, and you didn’t. That’s life. I am just happy that we are still best friends. Wouldn’t know what to do without you in my life.” You meant those words.
You never resented him for having a girlfriend. You never hated Hana for taking him away from you.
His dark eyes were still fixed on you, taking in your every expression and gesture. Even though you really looked carefree he somehow wasn’t able to relax.
He too had a crush on you and if he had known you felt the same, he wouldn’t have hesitated for a second to make you his girlfriend.
Kuroo used to be so confused about his feelings. One day you were his best friend, almost like a little sister and the next you were the most gorgeous girl to ever walk the earth.
His heart had started to skip a beat when you smiled at him.
He had had to stop himself from shivering when you put a hand on his arm or shoulder.
He had felt jealous, even of his own teammates, whenever you paid more attention to them than you did to him.
He had constantly felt the need to have you close by.
He had felt like his heart would explode when you would fall asleep on his shoulder when you were having a movie night.
He hadn't known how to handle it. He had crushes before but never as intense as that and he was so sure you didn’t think of him like that.
That’s the only reason he dated Hana in the first place – as well as the girls that came after her – he hoped to be able to move on when he spent enough time with another girl.
It never worked, though. Other than you who always had been surprised when one of his relationships came to an end since they were always such a great couple according to you, he knew exactly why the relationship didn’t last.
“I´ve heard that Hana is studying in France right now. Pretty cool, isn´t it? I think-“ he didn’t say anything as you rambled on about his ex – you knew that Kuroo and her were still on good terms which was why you didn’t hesitate to bring her up – but the dark haired male could only stare at you.
He suddenly regretted all the relationships he had since high school and couldn’t help but question what if?
What if he hadn’t accepted Hana back then?
You would have confessed and maybe you would be together to this day.
What if he would have had the guts to confess to you after he failed his first relationship due to his feelings for you?
Maybe he still would have been too late but maybe not.
Was is too late now?
