This line always struck me as odd. Homie spent 23 years palling around in Gondor and Rohan, and the Argonath are like a two week ride east of Edoras.
If you always wanted to see them, why didn't you just go see them? Your job is literally wandering around the wilderness. A four week camping trip is surely within your skillset.
