yes yes yes. yes. i know . i know i know . i understand that familial and platonic relationships are just as important as romantic ones. i know that love can come from anyone and anywhere and that it is valuable even when it is not romantic . i am grateful for my platonic and familial relationships . but none of these people will sleep with me in my bed .

One of the worst things about reading a lot of Batman comics is that you get to a point where you realize that a lot of people who have a lot of very strong opinions on Batman do not in fact read many comics that are about Batman. And then you have to restrain the urge to be very very annoying.

I started drawing Dick with his mom and dad taking care of baby Dick after a nightmare... than it kind of went from there.
I imagined they had this big blanket his Mary treasured, but one day, Dick accidentally ripped it. So she cut off the damaged piece, fixed the edges, embroidered it, and turned it into a mini version just for him.
That got me thinking about how confusing everything must’ve been after his parents died, and how much must’ve been lost. I mean, I’m sure Bruce, Alfred, or even Haly’s Circus tried to return his parents’ belongings to him, but realistically, it’s hard to believe nothing got lost in all that chaos.
So… cue the angst.

BruDick with DickBats.
I imagine this is around the time when Bruce came back from his “death”. After the level-headed talks and such, Dick just got..sort of angry/relieved/hysterical/idk so eh.
I sketched a short comic about this but didnt get to finish it so I drew this instead _(:‘3_

I think there's an odd tendency to sometimes sort of forget that Dick did in fact watch his parents be murdered when analyzing his behavior, which results in a lot of his more negative traits being ascribed solely to influence from Bruce. When in actuality they just have negative traits in common because they both saw their parents gruesomely murdered as small children.

I know we talk a lot about letting Tim grow up, but honestly, let Dick grow up too.
Bro is pushing 30, has had multiple Adult Careers (cop era, curator, volunteering at the support group, etc), has his own city, has been engaged twice (honestly I’m not even sure what’s canon anymore but idc - and this isn’t even including the time he got legally married for a case), raised Damian for a bit, and like half of his childhood friends are parents. I think we can stop treating him like he’s 21 now. I’m not saying make him settle down with a spouse and kids, but, at times, he is still treated like a wide-eyed and bushy-tailed kid who - for all his skill as a vigilante and detective, and the more serious side of his personality - is incapable of functioning like an adult? It’s doing him a disservice, in my opinion.
At this point, I’d love a Nightwing story which actually explores the idea of Dick being A Real Actual Adult™️, with his level of experience, as he approaches his thirties. I’d even take just a throwaway line about how he’s having to adapt his acrobatics as he gets older. I just think it could be something fun and new to explore, characterisation-wise.

one of my most firmly held beliefs is there's no such thing as an inappropriate book for a kid and people try to debate me saying like buhhhhhh I shouldnt have been reading the things I did when I was a kid and it's like cool but did you die??? did anything bad happen to you?? or were you allowed to think about what you did and didn't know and walk away when something got too intense or whatever.
