Schools of Magic in D&D

So, I’ve been thinking about this recently.

Necromancy isn’t bad- Or at least, it isn’t the most evil school of magic. Necromancy isn’t all about summoning undead and cursing people, necromantic spells include Revivify and Ressurection. The real baddy, when it comes to magic schools, is Enchantment. It is a school of magic designed to take away people’s free will. It is manipulating, tricking and abusing through magic. 

Fantasy cliche has seemingly made every setting see necromancy as an evil school of magic and Enchantment has had it too good! So, if you’ve got a setting and you want to do something different, don’t bully all the necromancers of the world! There’s plenty more targets when it comes to the Arcane

Religious freedom, if that’s a thing that can be hunted for. At this point I’d settle for religious tolerance where the majority of governments and the most powerful religion don’t want Reapers dead. ‘Please stop killing us’ is such a low bar, and yet...

Wizard: What does your character consider more important - natural talent or work ethic? Regardless of their convictions, do they rely on their training or their talent more often than not?

Dear Reaper,

Natural talent only gets a person so far, you have to work to excel at something. My abilities are not from talent or something I was born with, I had to study and learn and grow to believe in myself.

( She was not born with her magic abilities, those only came about when she started to trust and believe in herself. The degree of self confidence you need to cast faith based spells is something she had to learn. Unless I write a version where her powers are actually from a secret god or demon or something, which could be a fun story to explore. -- Cen )

When entered into by consenting and informed adults, it’s a wonderful thing! Unfortunately it is often a contract that one or both parties feel coerced into from pressures inside and out. Sometimes it’s arranged by others, sometimes one has more power than the other and use that disparity to get what they want, sometimes it’s society or family or financial reasons.

Dear Reaper,

I can’t guess how I will change my mind in the future, as I don’t know what new information I will learn that will make me reevaluate my core beliefs and morals. I doubt anything would make me stop believing in the right to control your own life.

(( I can see Tali going numerous directions based on Brai’sa��s actions and how the story goes. Given the campaign has been canceled that can only be explored in stories. If the Speaker isn’t as bad as the Spoken Truth that would make her reevaluate her opinions on them. If Brai’sa went bigot and proved her fears right she could easily go an antagonist route to try to protect others from faith-based slaughter. There is also a possibility her powers come from a (currently unknown) source, which would also force her to rethink how much control she has over her life. Running into evil Reapers would also make her rethink things. Many possibilities and options! -- Cen))

What physical traits, if any, do you find attractive? Do you have a "type"?

Dear Reaper,

It’s a mix, honestly. Sometimes I see someone and just think “oh my that’s an attractive person!” Other times the trait is suddenly attractive after I’ve known a person for a long time, generally when I’m developing a crush. It seems to be anything, their eyes, their hair, nose, height, smell, you get the idea. 

As for finding a stranger attractive, that happens most often with someone tall, broad, and muscled. No surprise there, that was the glorified body type in Mysthal.
