        He shrugged. It wasn’t anything new. Carol and David seemed to spend most of their time denying their son’s death, resulting in them moving house every few years. Which meant Quentin attending a new school, pretending he was something he wasn’t, with only those running the school district actually knowing the truth.

      ❝ Quentin. We-- move around a lot—for my dad’s job, you know? ❞ Lying came easier to him, after all this time. It wasn’t something the original Quentin would have felt comfortable with, the deception. But he wasn’t him. He was his own person.

After their daughter moved out to attend college, the Coopers left their home of nearly twenty years with the hope of giving Quentin, their artificial version of him, a fresh start. At a new school the kids would treat him just like anyone else and Carol and David could go on reliving their deceased son’s middle school years. This arrangement, for them, was fine. For a few years. But it couldn’t work forever. 

Because Quentin looked fourteen. They could only say he was short for his age for so long and while his features could be readjusted and reprogrammed, his body was permanent. Grown to the real Quentin’s specifications.

BUT ANYWAY-- unrelated to the butt-- I was reading the goonies tv tropes page and it was said that mikey’s kiss with andy is his first kiss but that’s not even true bc in the novel he kissed someone else with braces and they got stuck together and there were other mentions of novel things on the tv tropes page so I was like D: about the braces thing not being there but oh well
