Meeting You At The Subway

small note: It's my first fic that I'm publishing, so I'm sorry if it's odd in a way!

Summary:

—>A few days ago, Artem's car broke down and required repair. As a result, he decided to start using the subway to get to the law firm. Little did he know that someone would catch his eye while he was on the train. Since then, he has found himself using the train often just so that he can see you.

Lately, Artem has been taking the subway train to work. He’s running to come through as he looks around for a nice seat when he sees an empty chair by the window. Artem took a seat, checked the time and sighed. It’s 12 in the afternoon, well, precisely 12:22 pm. He knew he would clock in to work late today, which would be unusual for others to see him arrive so late. He wished that his car hadn’t broken down a few days ago; it would’ve been quicker to drive to the law firm rather than to commute there. Artem leaned back against his seat, closing his eyes and trying to regain his breath after running so that he could reach the train on time. Even though he knew the train would leave at 12:30 pm, rushing there was better than being sorry. He looked at the train door, watching people go in and out; the train was bustling and loud. Oh, but little did Artem know there was someone fair and pretty who would catch his attention.

    At 12:28 pm, you came rushing inside the train, nearly missing it by 2 minutes. You leaned over to a post— breathing heavily before taking a seat across Artem. Seeing you made him forget about the world and noise around him. Now he’s wondering who you are. You’ve wholly caught his attention overall. He hadn’t even noticed how long he had been staring at you until the train started moving and your eyes locked with his. Artem quickly looked away and cleared his throat. Now, he wouldn’t be the one to believe in such absurd things as love at first sight, but when his eyes locked with yours? It felt like fate. When Artem looked back at you, he noticed you were still on him; it honestly almost made him blush out of embarrassment. He took note of how your eyes sparkled like diamonds underground.  

You looked so simple, yet when you started smiling, it was as if he had caught a glimpse of heaven. How cute… He quickly shook his head at that thought and mentally berated himself for even thinking that you were cute. You are a stranger and don’t know each other well. He shouldn’t be thinking like that towards you. He looked away from you, averting his attention from you. Instead, he focused on the window. He swore he nearly heard you chuckle at him.  He wondered if you caught his tired and weary face; Artem hoped you didn’t.

You smiled softly at the sight of the handsome stranger before you. It was cute how hard he tried not to seem flustered; although he was trying to hide it, his ears were visibly red—it almost made you chuckle. You knew that you would much prefer to do your daily routine while you were on the train, which was starting your work through your phone. But right now? You would much like observing the pretty man with beautiful brown hair and striking blue eyes like aquamarine gemstones. While you would much like to keep your eyes on him, you did not want to seem like a creep, so you searched inside your bag for your phone; only then would you see the book you’ve been meaning to start but never had the time for. 

You’ll just read the book for now while sneaking small glances at the man before you, though you quickly got immersed in the book before you could even glance at him again. 

Throughout the ride to the CBD station, Artem wondered if he said “Hello,” would you say it back or just ignore him? The train arrived at his stop before he could even stand up and shoot his shot. Artem sighed and grabbed his stuff. As he did so, he noticed that you’d put away your book and grabbed your bag, standing up to leave. It seems like this was your stop as well. Though, he can’t waste his time talking to you right now. He’s already late for work. So, with that being said, he quickly left the station and made his way to the law firm while you went the other way.

From then on, Artem took the subway almost every other day just to catch a glimpse of you. While his car was already fixed and he could have started driving to the Themis Law firm instead, he chose to commute. The first time he saw you was on the first of December at 12:28 p.m. For any other person on the train, that date would be irrelevant, but to him, it signified the feeling of fate from seeing you. 

Today, the train was calmer than before; he didn’t have to rush through the door. But alas, Artem had to, hoping to see you once more. He entered with a small smile, looking around for a seat down the aisle. It was 12 in the afternoon, 12:22 pm, the same time he had come here on the first time he had to use the train a few days ago. Artem had noticed that he hadn’t seen the familiar (your hair colour)ed stranger. He frowned a bit but knew deep down that he’d eventually see you again in just a moment. He eventually found a seat. It was by the window again. Artem knows that window seats are pretty, but it would be better if you were with him. Never in his life had he been so mesmerised by your pretty (your eye colour) eyes. Eyes that shine like stars in the night sky, eyes sparkling like diamonds. He wished he could look at them for a bit longer than just small glimpses. 

Artem sighed and looked out the window, then at his phone, looking for some sort of distraction for the moment. But, his mind drifts off elsewhere. He wonders if it would ever be possible for your hands to intertwine with his. He wondered how soft it would be, and even if it weren’t as soft– he wouldn’t have minded as long as he held your hand. Eventually, he heard the familiar footsteps enter the train. At 12:25, he saw you seated next to the sky (window). As if almost immediately, his heart jumped at the sight of you.  

As the train goes by, Artem loses track of time. 

Eight times Artem met you at the same place and time if only he had known and noticed all the different signs. You caught him staring at you seven times in six stops today, and in five seconds, he had already forgotten where he was going and which way. It was a bit embarrassing for him, and it could’ve been if you hadn’t approached him, finally making a move on each other after so long. He looked at you with blue eyes, a little surprised to see you approaching him. You would have been lying to yourself if you hadn’t noticed how your eyes locked on each other longer than usual. 

“Hey.” you greeted first. A voice so warm and welcoming, and boy— did his heart nearly leapt out of his chest. Artem’s voice got stuck in his throat for a second; he looked away from you and cleared his throat to regain his composure. 

“Hey…”  he greeted back, his voice a little strained, and oddly enough, it sounded nervous. He never expected to hear himself sound like that. And as a response to hearing his own voice, his cheeks burned light pink. It was such an adorable sight for you. You chuckled a little before you took a seat right next to him. 

“Y/n, and you are?” You smiled. 

“Artem… Artem Wing.”  

“Well, Artem, I believe it’s finally time we started getting to know each other. No?” You replied with a slightly cheerful tone, tilting your head and grinning right at him. His heart fluttered at the sight. He only gave you a slight nod, returning your smile. 

Perhaps this could be the start of something new between you. Perhaps he was right about meeting you as destiny. He’ll be forever thankful for meeting you on December 12:28

Headcanon: Cooking For Artem

YEAH BOIIIIIIIIII! IT'S OUR FAVORITE SENIOR ATTORNEY, MR. ARTEM WING'S BIRTHDAY! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Okay, so I wanted to write something for Artem's birthday that is coming up (April 26th) because why not? Anyways, I know that I haven't written anything in awhile, but I hope that this kind of makes up for the sudden increase of workload. Either way, I hope you enjoy this one!

For our timeline, you can basically imagine any timeline. Whether you want to be dating, married, engaged to him; imagine this however you would like to. Also, I would like for you to imagine that you're working at Themis as Artem's partner if you decide to not be Rosa.

"How come you're yawning so much?" Kiki asks you in the middle of her story. With the new case that you and Artem received a couple days ago, you two are both swamped with work, trying to sort out the paperwork and known evidence. As much as you love working here, it definitely needs a lot of time and effort to get it done.

After taking a sip of your fresh coffee, you look at her to explain, "Mr. Wing and I just started a new case, so we needed to put in some overtime to get through what we wanted." Kiki only nods in response before taking a sip of her coffee. Suddenly, you notice the confusion in her eyes.

"I don't think that explains why you're so tired though?" she asks, staring into the reflection of her coffee to put the pieces together. "Even if you and Mr. Wing work overtime, he would make sure that you two get home decently on time," she continues before squinting at dark circles, "and you seem to be yawning more than the previous times that you two worked together into the night." You look back down at your coffee cup to hopefully hide your face a little; you didn't want her finding out about your plan and blurting it out to the entire office.

"Y-Yeah, I just didn't sleep well," your voice trails off before you take another sip of coffee. Although you can't exactly see her face, Kiki's studying eyes seem to bore a hole into your forehead. When you finally pull the coffee cup away from your face, Kiki's eyes seem to widen, seemingly putting the pieces together.

"Did you prepare something?" she asks teasingly, poking at your arm. With the blush in your cheeks, you realize that she knew your plans. With a sigh, you can only nod at her response where she excitedly places down her cup and claps her hand like a child who just figured out the hardest math problem in the homework. "What did you prepare? A gift? Or something more?" she begins bombarding you with questions, trying to figure out more about your little surprise. Suddenly, her voice seems to cut off, and you watch her freeze up in front of you. "G-Good morning Mr. W-Wing," she greets, stuttering on her words. Confused, you turn around for your eyes to meet with a familiar chest.

"Good morning," Artem greets with a slight nod. "If you don't mind, I would like my partner for the new case we're working on." Kiki can only nod and excuse herself awkwardly before escaping the senior attorney's gaze. You look back at Artem confused before he looks down at you. "Sorry to disturb your conversation, but I think I found another clue for the case," he explains briefly, catching your attention. The two of you start walking back to his office as you discuss the details.

"Does it regard the testimony of the main suspect?" you question, your thoughts returning to the case. Artem nods to confirm your suspicions before explain his train of thought. While you try to keep your mind on the task at hand, you feel the drowsiness catching up to you, making your steps slow down. Before Artem catches you lagging behind, you try to catch up to him again, but you awkwardly trip over your own feet, causing you to yelp slightly. Closing your eyes to brace for the impact of the hard floor, you feel yourself hitting a softer surface, hands on your arms and a familiar scent hitting your nose. Opening your eyes, your eyes land on the fabric of a suit, making you rush to stand.

"Are you okay?" Artem asks worriedly, looking over your body to visually check everything. Feeling the blood rush to your cheeks from the situation, you can barely give him a verbal response and look at him, making you choose to nod instead. With a sigh of relief, Artem appears to relax a little before checking you one more time. "Did you not sleep well last night?" he wonders aloud, and you're sure that he noticed the dark circles under your eyes.

"I slept well, but I guess I didn't sleep enough," you answer carefully, your voice small enough for only Artem to hear. Artem shakes his head helplessly before you two step into his office. The thud of the door shutting wakes you up slightly, but you can't help but to yawn and take another sip of coffee.

"It is nearing the time for lunch, so maybe you need some energy?" Artem pieces together before grabbing his phone from his desk. "Let's order some food, so we can eat twelve. Do you want your usual order?" he asks, scrolling on his phone screen. With your tired brain, you just process the situation, making you wake up instantly.

"A-actually, I don't think we need to order anything," you suddenly state, making him looking up from his phone confused. Without another word, you walk towards your bag and rummage through the contents from the specially packaged items. With your back facing towards him and his eyes on you, the nervousness finally hits you; you can only hope that he likes your little surprise for him. Your hand brushes against a familiar fabric texture and holds onto it. Carefully, you begin to dig it out of your bag, making sure your wrapping doesn't get too ruined. When you lift the two surprises out of your bag, you turns towards him, and his eyes stare at the two items in your hands confused.

Before you get the chance to explain yourself, Artem suddenly pieces the clues together, "Did you wake up early to cook for us today?" When he completely figures out, you can only nod at his response.

"I decided to cook today since you always cook for us and handle my meals even though that's supposed to be my responsibility," you explain quietly. With a small pause, you realize how the air in the office turned awkward, making you explain yourself further. "W-well I technically didn't really cook much; I only made the rice, cut up some vegetables, cooked it together with some meat, and arranged it. It really isn't much compared to what you do, but I just wanted to return the favor after everything you've done for me," you ramble quickly before realizing that you just made the situation even more awkward. In an instant, you try to hide your face and clear your throat. "W-we don't have to eat it if you don't-" you shyly start again before Artem cuts you off.

"You cooked for me?" Artem whispers, his tone reflecting his touched and confused feelings. You nod again at Artem before you hear his steps approach you. The load in your hands seem to lighten, and you see one of the lunch boxes you packed in Artem's hand. "Let's just eat here then," he softly offers, a small smile on his face. You nod with a smile on your face, feeling slightly relieved that he accepted your gift. After unwrapping and reheating the food, you two are seated on the couch and eating the meal you prepared. However, there's a slight problem: you messed up the seasoning; you only realize it after you take a bite and realize how bland the meal is. Sadly, Artem already had a couple bites while reading the document on his tablet, making you cringe at your mistake. You can only await his comments about the food, making you try to distract yourself by reading a document for the case.

An awkward silence lands over you as you nervously scan through the lines of the document. Although you feel like you need to break the silence, you know that it would still be too awkward for you. The most you could do was to shovel your bland stir-fry into your mouth and to cry internally about forgetting to season your own food. Seriously, how do you forget to season vegetables and meat? While you're mentally kicking yourself about this, you manage to not hear Artem trying to call your attention to the point that he needs to tap you on the head. When you realize what just happened, your cheeks burn red from embarrassment. Trying to compose yourself, you look up to see Artem staring at you blankly.

"W-what is it? D-did you f-find anything?" you stutter out, making you internally scream at yourself again. At the worst possible moment, your tongue slips on the syllables of your words, and you can only hope that Artem notices your nervousness.

"Not yet," he answers softly, "but you have been awfully quiet. Is everything okay?" Of course, he would notice; the top attorney of Stellis would definitely notice any abnormal behavior out of his partner.

You only sigh in defeat before you admit your mistake: "I forgot to season the food, so I just gave you bland food." You want to bury yourself into the ground, so your embarrassment can disappear. However, Artem's reaction catches you slightly off guard.

"The food was fine," Artem responds in an attempt to ease your feelings. "Yes, it was bland, but that's an easy fix compared to cooking it incorrectly." While honest with your cooking, you can't help but feel him picking at his words to not offend you. Because of this, you still feel upset about your lack of memory and don't notice him watching your face twist at your cringe. He carefully sets down the empty container and gently places his hand over yours. Not expecting his warm hands on yours, the blood suddenly rises in your cheeks, and your heart pounds against your chest. "Bland food is better than burnt food. I'm just glad that someone even tried to cook for me, alright?" Artem comforts you as his fingertips slightly press into your skin. You can only nod at him and not make eye contact, slightly relieved by his reaction.

"Next time, I'll make you something better then!" you promise out loud, finally making eye contact with him. With a bright smile on your face, his eyes widen in shock before a moment before returning your smile. His hand squeezes yours for a moment before letting go and turning his body towards you.

"Maybe you should try to cook when we're not overloaded with a case. I know you forgot to add the seasoning because you didn't get enough sleep last night," Artem reasons, patting your head. In shock, you stare at him, trying to piece together how he figured it out.

When you get stuck, you finally ask, "How did you know that?" Your eyes try to blink the tiredness away from your eyes as he stares at you with a smile on his lips.

"I know the work we have to do, and we're partners. Do you really think I wouldn't be able to figure out that you didn't sleep enough after seeing you get more coffee?" he asks. Trying to figure out how he knew you grabbed more coffee for yourself, he awkwardly clears his throat to cut off any questions you have, "I mean, you rarely get coffee around noon since I tell you that I'm going to order lunch soon." Understanding his logic, your cheeks grow red from embarrassment as he seems to read you like a book. Hiding your hands in your face, you hear Artem move off of the couch for a moment and walk to somewhere near his desk. You look over at him as he searches for something in his closet.

"Do you need any help looking for something?" you ask cautiously before standing up. You are about to walk over to him when he finally pulls out a folded blanket from the closet. Glancing over at you, he shoots you a small smile before closing the door and walking towards you.

"Lay down," he tells you, and you can only warily relax your body on the couch. He sits down beside you before unfolding the blanket and covering your body, adjusting the edges of the blanket to cover the entirety of your back and shoulders. "Take a rest. I have energy because of your food, but you must be exhausted from cooking in the morning," Artem quietly explains as he carefully tucks a pillow underneath your head. Before you can protest that two minds are better than one in the new case, he cuts you off, "Not having enough sleep will impede your logic and thinking. It's best if you sleep and let your mind process it for a bit." While you acknowledge that his explanation makes sense, you can't help but feel like you're not doing your part of the work for the case.

"But I want to finish another part before I rest," you complain quietly, almost feeling your lips pout. Although you want to keep working, your body feels warm under the blanket, slowly lulling you to sleep. "I should at least finish reading the document," you mutter out as you curl up under the blanket. Within another minute or two, your mind already eases your thoughts into silence, and you're sleeping soundly with the blanket covering half of your face. When you stop talking, Artem glances over to see you sleeping peacefully like a child and chuckles at you. His hand carefully brushes your hair away from your face, and his voice quietly mutters something.

"Thank you for today. Sleep well."

as soon as artem heard that you were injured, he would want to drop everything he was doing and rush to be by your side at once. unfortunately, reality means that he can't just ditch his job, so he finishes his work so quickly that even celestine is surprised and he heads home at once.

upon seeing the state of your foot and the way you wince in pain as you try to hobble towards him and greet him, artem lifts you up like you weigh nothing and brings you straight to the bedroom. he surrounds you with a million pillows and if necessary, elevates your foot with a stack of cushions too. for the entire time that you're injured, artem applies for permission to work at home, and he'll be by your side day and night. whatever you need, he'll get it for you at once so you don't even have to lift a finger.

when he realises that you're feeling upset about your injury, artem would hold your palm in his, gently squeezing your hand as he listens to you talk about your worries. he understands that such a sudden injury can be earthshaking, especially when it results in such a loss of autonomy. but artem wants you to know that he'll be with you every step of the way until and after you're 100% healed.

[ luke pearce / xia yan ! ]

luke would be working at the antique store when you call him and tell him you've injured your foot while at work. his first emotion is complete and utter panic, he can't lose you again- but then he snaps back into focus and tells you he'll be on the way immediately. he grabs a bunch of things that might be helpful like an ice pack, bandages and cotton pads before driving to your workplace at lightning speed (he definitely runs a couple of red lights in his hurry).

once luke brings you home, he won't even hear one single word about how you want to help him, or how he shouldn't worry too much about you. he'll just carry you and lay you down on the sofa, putting on your favourite tv show to help pass the time while he goes to prepare a meal for you. he does his best to keep you as involved as possible, asking you about which spices you want, and walking to the couch just to give you a taste test. at that point you both remember that he's terrible at cooking, so you settle for ordering takeout instead LOL.

throughout the course of your recovery, luke flits about you like a worried butterfly. he doesn't want you to strain yourself, so even when you're taking your first few steps again, luke is the one who looks like he's going to pass out from nervousness. if you ever tell him that you feel like a burden because you aren't able to do anything for now, luke will reassure you with soft kisses and whispered words of comfort. as someone with a chronic illness, he understands how useless you can feel when you're bedridden, so he knows just what to say to help you feel better.

[ marius von hagen / lu jinghe ! ]

marius is actually the bane of his directors' existence. the second you call him and tell him you're injured, he dismisses everyone in the meeting room, muttering something about rescheduling it to another day. he leaves everything up to poor vincent, who's forced to deal with the wrath of the old men on the board of directors. marius drives way over the speed limit back home, and he doesn't care at all about the accumulated speed tickets he's going to have to pay - nothing is more important than getting to you asap.

once he's got you tucked into bed and is convinced that you aren't in mortal danger, marius is soo dramatic about the whole thing it's almost as if he's the one that's injured. "but i was so worried about you! you almost drove me to an early grave, is that what you want, mx lawyer?!" he clutches his heart and stumbles around the room, which at least succeeds in cheering you up a little. unfortunately, marius can't skip out on work to be with you because pax would probably fall apart in two seconds without him at the wheel, so he relies on payton to give you everything you need (it shows how much he trusts his butler that he even entrusts your safety to him).

marius would spend as much time with you as he could, always cuddled up next to you and resting his head in the crook of your neck as you thread your hands through his hair. he'll talk about everything under the sun, hoping it distracts you from your pain. when you confess that you've been feeling down because of your injury, marius comforts you the best way he can, letting you vent as much as you need to get everything off your chest. after that he tells you that he'll treat you like royalty every day if it means that you'll feel less bad about him doing it while you're injured.

[ vyn richter / mo yi ! ]

one of the perks of running your own workplace is that you can do whatever you want, and that is exactly what vyn does. when he hears you're injured, he informs his receptionist that he'll be unavailable for the next few days except for patients with extremely urgent needs that can't be handled by the nurses. with that out of the way, he calls ogier and drives home at once, not caring how many traffic lights he ignores.

anyone who saw vyn at the time might say that he was unbothered about your injury upon looking at the way he calmly handled the situation, merely asking you what happened and checking the prescribed medications. but you know better, because you notice all the small details about him that no one else would; the way his usually flawless hair is now messy, or how his eyes flicker to you every second as if you're going to disappear into thin air, or the way his hand is ever so slightly trembling as he holds onto you so tightly.

as a psychiatrist, vyn can spot the signs of how upset you are before you say anything, but he waits for you to tell him first because he doesn't want to put any pressure on you. when you open up to him, vyn isn't judgemental at all, he listens to you carefully and reminds you that your feelings are valid. after all, it must have been incredibly difficult for you to cope with such an unexpected injury, and he's so proud of you for being so strong. vyn would help you start to walk again, and the look in his eyes when you take your first few steps on your own almost makes the whole thing worth it.

the times where he would endlessly tease you until no end, the smirk that you oh so wanted to wipe off of his face still stitched onto his features as his confidence was very much loud between the two of you. loving lu jinghe can be quite messy. the times where you’d stay in his studio watching him paint and you hadn’t realized that you dozed off until he shook your shoulders to wake you up. or the times where you’d get mad at his idiotic teasing as he continuously apologized to you.

although loving him can be messy, it can also be nice and caring. the small moments where he would softly smile at you while you two were on a small date in a dessert shop, you could already sense the love he holds for you through that small glint in his eyes if you stared back at him.

sweet as candy and as affectionate as he can be. that’s how he loves you; you’d never leave his mind if you two were far from each other. he’d try to spend a lot of time with you; who wouldn’t want so many memorable moments with their beloved? the little instances where you would randomly bump into each other on the street and soon spend the rest of your time together, whether it was just watching films with cuddles or just playing around in xia yan’s antique shop.

sweet, is how you would describe what loving xia yan feels like. the excitement in your chest when you see him means that you know that you will have a great time with him again today. but there will also be a few butterflies in your stomach as he makes you blush, but he blushes harder than you.

as much as he enjoys music, loving mo yi is like playing the same track over and over again. it’s a never ending feeling of joy and fondness you hold for each other. even if you replayed this track, you still wouldn’t get tired of it. no matter how much you two bond over music, it doesn’t matter because your favorite track will still be his expression of appreciation for you. 

the track containing his soft words of confession towards you—how could you get tired of it? it’d make your heart flutter every time. although most flowers would wilt, you, being his rose in his heart, would never dwindle, for he would cherish it with the utmost care and love it more than anything. the rose in his heart could never wilt like other flowers, could it?

zuo ran — !

a balloon making it’s way up in the air before slowly popping. it’s how zuo ran’s heart would explode every time he was with you. he wonders how a person like you could be with him, but he isn’t complaining. he’s quite grateful that he’s got someone like you with him. the blush creeping up to his cheeks as you fix his tie because it was messy while the two of you are alone at his office is something that he can’t quite control as he tries to regain his composure and stop himself from stuttering.

loving zuo ran would be a nice feeling. a bit cliché during some moments, but overall, it’s just a nice feeling to have. delicate feelings in each other’s hands, his being with yours, and vice versa. it was fragile—this was fragile. but hey, there’s a first time for everything, right?

Headcanon: Meeting Artem in University

I've been kind of on a roll with Artem headcanons recently because I keep looking at his cards (as a simp for him). Either way, I have another headcanon about him for you guys, and it's actually your first "encounter" with him.

I know that Hoyo already has a story set about how you/Rosa/MC first meet Artem, but I feel like this could happen in the actual storyline outside of the cards (?). Also, there is a tiny spoiler from the game about Artem's relationships with certain characters, but I don't think that it ruins too much about the actual story. Either way, I hope you enjoy this headcanon!

For the timeline and setting, assume that you are Rosa and that this is during your time in university, so imagine this being set a few years above the official start of the game.

"How do I improve this part of the paper?" Rosa asks the older woman across the desk from her. The tension in the room feels thick as Rosa begins asking questions regarding the quality of the paper. She needed this paper to be perfect.

After a brief reread of the section, the older woman explains, "You need to elaborate more about the details that you interpreted. Your evidence already discusses a lot about the observations of the scene, so you really need to get deep with your analysis." Rosa nods understanding the explanation, already plotting out how to rewrite the essay. Before she could ask another question, her advisor decides to end their meeting, "It's almost five, and I have another person coming in after you. I'm afraid we have to end our discussion here." Rosa looks confused as she glances to the clock in the office and realizes the time.

In a rush to clean up and leave, Rosa bids her farewell to her thesis advisor, "Thank you for your efforts, professor. I'll be sure to adjust my paper with your feedback." She bows towards her advisor before carefully leaving the building. As she walks towards the exit, her heels click against the ground, and she continues thinking about the discussion with the professor just earlier.

While she's lost in her thoughts, a male on the other side of the hallway sighs, thinking about his current workload. Noticing the girl who just exited the office, his eyes follow her figure. Her medium-length brown hair flow behind her as she briskly walks down the hall, and her fingers seem to be counting something. Her concentrated eyes don't detect a certain campus celebrity watching her intently while standing still. She quickly walks past the male, and his eyes follow her figure getting smaller down the hallway.

He barely manages to break his gaze on her when he shakes his head, but it seemingly breaking a trance he was just in. He approaches the office door and knocks on it, the hard wood against his knuckles echoing in the hallway.

"Come in," the female voice inside answers as she pours some hot water into a cup. The male outside grips on the doorknob before twisting it and entering the room. "How were classes, son?" she asks when she sees his familiar figure in the room. He carefully closes the door to avoid the loud thud when the door completely closes before slipping his backpack off.

"They were okay, but it's just been a long day since it's getting darker earlier," Artem briefly explains to his mom before sinking into the chair. The seat is still warm from Rosa which shocks him at first, but he slowly settles and enjoys the warmth. While waiting for his mom to sit down with him, his eyes wander on the room before landing on the large monitor on the desk. He notices a student's essay displayed on the screen, reading the name: Rosa (L/N).

"It is getting darker, so you shouldn't forget to take care of yourself this winter," his mom reminds him as he only half-listens to her, humming in response. His mind wanders as he recalls the focused girl walking down the hall lost in thought. Although they never physically interacted with each other, she already left a strong impression on him.

"Did someone check in with you about their thesis?" he asks, still looking at the computer screen. "The new semester just started, and someone's already finished writing theirs?" Surprised at the pace, he looks at his mom trying to see what she has to say about it.

With a sigh, she replies, "Yes, that's a student's completed thesis. She wanted me to look over it since she wanted perfect it." Artem nods, understanding the situation. Although it surprises him that someone already decided to finish their thesis, it's understandable to finish early to revise. "Not only that, she works really hard to make sure that she does well on these papers," she comments again, finally sitting down in her chair. Her fingers grips the string of the tea bag as she moves it up and down in the water.

"How is this thesis though in your opinion?" he asks in curiosity. His mother eyes him, noticing his new found curiosity and internally chuckles at her son.

"It's just a draft, so obviously there are some things that she needs to change up. However, considering that, it's coming along well for her," she explains before setting the tea bag down. In response, he nods before seemingly reading the paper himself. "Why are you so interested?" she finally questions, trying to figure out what her son is thinking.

"She just caught my attention on my way here; that's all," he mumbles softly while still skimming the lines of text. She scoffs softly before taking a sip of her fresh tea.

Yeah right. Only caught his attention.

[ the night is young and the season is fierce. it’s a late night at the firm, and the infamous ‘libra’ makes the mistake of letting you slip out before he can take you home.

“stop” a recognizable voice rings in your ear. your steps come to a grinding halt when you feel a hand latch onto your thin office jacket. its’ grip is not tight but it still prevents you from moving.

“artem” you coo, your playful eyes looking back into his stern ones “it’s only the beginning of november. a little chill won’t hinder my way home.” with a light tug your jacket is now free from his grasp, though he still gives you one of his trademark eye rolls.

“i specifically directed that you left early in the winter months due to a lack of transportation. you should rest assured that stuffing you in the back seat of my suv isn’t necessarily a bother.” his hands glide over a few nxx folders on your desk, quietly admiring their tidiness “just because i’m working late tonight doesn’t mean i can’t drop you off and come ba-”

artem groans silently to himself, pinpointing the sound coming from his office. “i have to take this” he sighs “i’ll be back to take you home in five to ten minutes.”

yet when you hear his brisk footsteps and the slamming of a door, you grin to yourself. the sun is only setting now, and the street is guarded by lamps. “surely he wouldn’t miss me if i left early?” you thought to yourself, deciding to leave a small notecard on your desk. the words “i’ll call you when i get home -y/n” written in bold penmanship.

“reports suggest that christmas will be coming early in stellis” a reporter states, making vague gestures to the map behind her “as we could get up to two feet of snow and several fallen trees within the park areas”

celestine is once again grateful for having the deed to the entire building, as any innocent renter below the snack bar would think they were smuggling a clocktower complex inside. his footsteps are loud and fast, pacing back and forth as much as he can in a room filled with paperwork.

“with how big the cloud cover is, there’s a chance they probably sent the message and it hasn’t come through yet, right?” she finds him walking briskly into your office, a room of which he was once terrified of going in alone. “artem, damn it, artem-!” she calls again, looking up at the popup on her phone: a power blackout in y/n’s part of town. she runs to follow him, bumping into his back when she finds him standing perfectly still. there, he stares at the corner of y/n’s desk. there, are their apartment keys.

and that’s where he’s ended up now, thankful now more than ever he knows the back streets and alleyways of stellis. he drives cautiously, but certainly at no speed that could be considered legal. he flicks on the cab lights as he reaches the dark area, silently praising kiki for the idea. by the time his car is shut off, a foot is already on the sidewalk, opting to take the stairs over the out of commission elevator. he thinks he can hear the bellhop asking who he is. he does not answer.

what is stellis’ uprise will also be stellis’ downfall. their technology is fantastically advanced, though when the major tech installations came in back in 2026, several thousands of old furnaces, boilers and air conditioners went for scrap - leaving barely any backup power or generators for most high-end facilities when the electronic grid is struck.

as he climbs to the eighth floor, he’s stripping himself of his blazer, juggling it between his phone flashlight and tying it around his waist like a middle schooler.  he legs it down the halls to find your room, and if the situation weren’t so dire, he’d look hilarious.

“y/n!” he breathes upon seeing you around the corner, staring at your chilled figure. he wastes no time in picking you up; he quietly dreads the jog back down, phone in mouth, though he’d never say it.

“here.” he grabs a few more blankets from the back, draping them over you. you’re pretty tired and out of it- the comforting scent of artem’s cologne-covered blazer isn’t exactly helping. the last you really remember is snuggling into the tailored fabric and succumbing to the weakness in your limbs.

“here” you hear again, this time a little clearer than the last. you wipe your foggy eyes, looking around to unfamiliar surroundings. with all due respect to artem, his apartment...is exactly what you would have expected. the only things you can really see have changed in god knows how long he’s been living here are a few family photos on the wall, clothing and tech in various places and an empty box of asian takeout on his coffee table. the rest is, well, default.

your eyes snap back to your nearby surroundings. a few pieces of clothing lie parallel to the takeout. there, stiff as a board, artem struggles how to hold you as you sleep in his arms. at some point he has changed into a loose button up and some black skinny jeans. despite the slight chill left in your bones, a laugh stifles from your lips.

“is something funny? i brought some clothing for you to sleep in tonight.” his face contorts as he gestures at the stack on the table, opting to look away in embarrassment.

“i never pictured you walking around barefoot in jeans.” you comment, and his face only burns brighter. “well, ehm-- many people- wear-- casual.. clothing.” he feels like dying at his choice of words, heart melting when a full giggle comes out of your mouth. “alright, may i ask how i got here?” your voice is weak from your sleepy state, but you lean over to grab at a large nightgown. his nightgown, you note.

“you forgot your keys at the firm, i’m sure you know by now. i came to get you but by that point the power was out in your district. i didn’t want you to sleep on a clammy paperwork-filled sofa bed therefore i brought you to my place. i.. i hope that was an acceptable thing of me to do.” he sighs, face returning to its’ fire-y glow.

“did you seriously just ask me if it was indecent of you to save me from hypothermia?” you snort, perhaps a little more blunt than usual. this elicits a soft hum from him, making him stand up. the lighting is dim in his lounge but, unbeknownst to him, you can still make out how rosy his cheeks are.

at the sight of you throwing the nightgown over your shoulders and beginning to unravel the layers underneath, artem shuffles awkwardly. he moves to get up, not wanting to disturb you. “i’ll make some hot cocoa” his voice cracks, feet sliding across the wooden paneling.

“wait, artem-” you hand reaches out to him, grabbing two of his fingers. he turns to you almost instantly with a look of worry. “is.. something wrong, y/n?”

“i’m.. still a little cold. do you mind staying with me a little bit more?” your voice is timid, unsure of his reaction. artem blinks a little, gears turning in his head. how you managed to change in that time frame, he’ll never know.

“sure, yeah. here,” he sits beside you, shifting so that you’re huddled in his lap. his chest vibrates against your back every time he talks, providing a grounding rhythm to focus on. “hold still.” he says lightheartedly, proceeding to shove his hands in under your shirt.

“artem!” you scold, ready to start slinging profanities. you don’t even have the chance to do so before a blanket is thrown over your face, however. you slip it over your head. turning to look at him. “would you be quiet?” he says, and you realize that you may have gotten the wrong idea. “i was just placing my arms on your stomach because they’re warm.” the senior attorney spouts, refusing to look you in the eyes. with a petty huff and a lip pout, he snuggles his head into your shoulder. “put your hands on mine. you’ll keep warm like that.”

and you decide, rather suddenly, that perhaps you’d relish in the fact that you now had a pair of rather large and familiar hands-- with veins and joints to trace your fingers over. . . .

“hey! quit that, artem! your feet are cold!”

artem would definitely love having an affectionate partner. he's someone who values communication, and hearing you always remind him that you love him never fails to make his day, whether it's through text messages or verbally. whenever he receives a notification from you, a smile will always unintentionally curve his lips as he stares at the barrage of heart emojis and exclamation marks. celestine has caught him smiling at his screen multiple times now, and she never stops teasing him about it.

as for physical affection, artem is comfortable with it as long as it isn't at work. it's not that he doesn't want to show you off or he's embarrassed to date you, he's just shy and gets too embarrassed when you kiss him goodbye in front of his coworkers (it's mainly celestine's knowing smirk that he doesn't think he can face). at home or when you go out on dates, he adores it when you jump on him in an excited hug or pepper kisses all over his face. he especially loves having your hand in his as you both walk around stellis, it's so casual and subtle but artem secretly likes how it signifies to everyone around you that the two of you are dating.

if you ever get insecure about being so enthusiastic with your love, artem is quick to reassure you. he'll tell you that you're like sunshine to him, and he adores basking in the warmth of your care. he would pull you into a comforting hug, resting his chin on your head and caressing your hair as you nuzzle into the crook of his neck, whispering sweet nothings about how much he loves you. artem hopes you know that he loves you equally, if not more, despite not showing it as boldly as you.

having a partner who's so genuine with their affection would come as a welcome shock to vyn. he's usually more restrained with his emotions, rarely letting his guard down even around you. ever since he was a kid, he's never met anyone who was so eager to love him like this, so it takes some time before he feels more comfortable with your enthusiasm. but once he's used to it, it's a welcome addition to all the things that he already adores about you.

vyn really appreciates the way you always tell him you love him. as a psychologist, he has a tendency to hyper-analyse everyone's behaviour, which includes you, and he sometimes manages to overthink himself into a spiral where he convinces himself you don't really love him (though he'd never voice it to you). at times like these, just seeing an "i love you, vyn!" text from you always chases away his negative thoughts, and he'll remind himself that you truly do care for him. he'll be sure to make your favourite desserts when you get home, but if you ask why he'll simply chuckle with an enigmatic smile and say he just felt like surprising you.

to be honest, vyn would totally one-up you in the physical affection department every time. he isn't shy to show that he loves you through touch, and when the two of you are relaxing at home, his hands are somehow always on you. resting on your waist, intertwining your fingers with his, sneaking under the hem of your shirt - vyn just loves how warm you are, and sometimes he can barely believe that you're there beside him, so the physical contact helps keep him grounded. if it makes you flustered, then that's a bonus! he also has zero shame when it comes to kissing you, and there definitely isn't a single place on your body that his lips haven't marked at least once. can you blame him though? vyn just wants to show his precious partner that he loves every single part of you.
