This is my chance to look back. If Sokka had turned around to catch a glimpse of Zuko walking away, just to take in who the name belonged to, it would be Zuko’s sign to pursue his ignited curiosity. It would be a sign that they both wanted to know more. This glimpse would be the single moment in which Zuko either let this go, or let this consume him entirely. So, he did what any normal person would do if their future depended on it. He stopped to look over his shoulder. Or, a Zukka college AU inspired by the song "Mastermind" by Taylor Swift.

HELLO EVERYONE! I am happy to share with you my work for the @zukkabigbang2024 : cryptic and machiavellian ('cause i care), a college AU based on the song Mastermind by Taylor Swift :3 HUGE PROPS to my lovely & crazy thorough beta reader @kartoonkrazy who worked endlessly with me through schedule changes and helped shape this story into what it is. A round of applause for the kind & insanely talented artist, @lnuns, who brought this story TO LIFE and captured the essence of this work so beautifully!!!!!! Okay so College AU, Sokka, an engineering major juggling his undergrad studies, takes on a side gig as a math tutor in the library. On the flip side, Zuko, a philosophy major, has confidently avoided math classes. One day, while wandering into the tutoring section of the library, Zuko is star struck. A pretty boy is here and he’s teaching math?!

Intrigued, Zuko starts attending the one-on-one math tutoring sessions. He begged Mai to share her calculus homework with him, providing him an excuse to spend more time with Sokka. Sokka is very obvious to all of this. He doesn’t mind helping Zuko, he actually looks forward to it a lot, but by GOD somebody needs to get Zuko out of a math class. This boy isn’t going to make it in stem.

Zukka modern AU where they all work at an ice rink:

- Zuko and Azula have been ice skating their entire lives and have done a lot of competitions as children

- after the scar thing Zuko and his uncle moved and Iroh reconnected with an old friend who owns the ice rink (Piandao)

- now he sells tea there and Zuko teaches kids how to skate

- Katara is manager of this whole mess because I can't really imagine her on skates but I very well think she was born with a clipboard

- Sokka is part of the college hockey team that trains there (defence)

- Mai and Ty Lee are defying gender norms and do ice dancing together (slay)

- Suki and Toph are playing hockey for fun because Toph would definitely be a goalie and Suki would scare every single one of the guys on the college hockey team

- Aang is referee and skates for fun

- Jet is the weird kid that hands out the renting skates

- anyways, Zuko has too many kids in his class so Katara signs Sokka up to help him teach

- they initially clash because Sokka really wants to be Zuko's friend but he comes in a little strong and Zuko is very awkward

- but they eventually manage and Zuko is very impressed with Sokka's teaching skills

- Sokka says: "bitch, hold my hockey stick" one way or another (no you don't get context)

- Sokka really wants to learn ice dancing so Zuko teaches him (or tries)

- Katara takes matchmaking upon herself and arranges a same sex ice dancing competition and Sokka jumps at the chance to skate with Zuko

zukka college where they spent the last year nonsensically hating each other and now theyre roommates

they go crazy the first month trying to spend as little time possible in each others presence until one night sokka is up really late studying for a test playing music and zuko walks in, stunned sokka is still up, and listens to the music.

its “his music”. why was sokka listening to what zuko would listen to ?

and so he asks sokka whats up with the music choice “surely you would listen to anything else ?”. but sokka shakes his head and says “nope.”

zuko goes to lay down and when sokka gets up to go to the bathroom, zuko puts a bottle of water and a can of some energy drink on the desk for sokka before falling asleep.

Sokka is the kind of guy to 100% brag about how he can't get sick in rainy weather, and think it's flirting, only to get clocked out by the flu the very next day. Good thing Zuko has a thing for dumbasses.

uhm zukka/zuko/sokka enjoyers would you guys be interested if I were potentially to start posting a fic (on Ao3) I’ve been chipping away at. asking here because I haven’t actually posted on Ao3 before and idk what it’s like over there.

anyway it’s a Zuko centric (but with much Sokka, and appearances from the Gaang (including Suki) and naturally Iroh) hero/villain/vigilante slash modern college au that follows the two boys when they accidentally end up roommates in the same dorm sometime in the equivalent of Season 2 Ba Sing Se and decide to go with it because they both think they can get information from the other. meanwhile in the wacky world of vigilantism Sokka ends up tailing a mysterious vigilante he’s heard is called The Blue Spirit because the guy seems to be active in the area, supposedly saved Aang’s life once, and if he’s a good guy, he could be a useful ally to take down Ozai, corrupt super-powered politician and secret lead of the city’s crime underworld.

Sokka has no powers/bending, Zuko swears up and down that he does (even if he can’t firebend, not like his sister or father or anyone else, even if he can’t really prove it right this second), and I’m working on a superpower system that is largely based on the Avatar spirit world. It’s a relatively slow burn, but we’ll get there, and I will be doing my best to give theatre kid Zuko justice. I’m working on main themes rn but I also hope to dip into sub-themes exploring disability, sexuality, and healing, and there will be an eclipse.

I have the plot outline and various details of the whole story, I’m most (probably?) of the way through Chapter 1 (4000 words and counting), and I’d probably start posting once I finished up the chapter and also decided on a title.

Kataang will also feature relatively canon compliantly :3 and also major character death. mostly temporary but i might change my mind

hiiii i don't know if you are the right person to ask. but. i've been looking for a specific zukka fic i read on ao3 during covid. it's an au where zukka and sokka hook up the day before the college semester starts. then they go their ways in the morning.... and then when sokka shows up to class zuko is the professor. they have to navigate that. do you maybe know this fic or who wrote it? i can't find it anywhere 😭😭😭😭

Imagine college au Zukka as the campus couple. Normally everyone minds their business and all but sokka is just so happy to be in love that he almost always forgets to use his lower voice when zuko does something sweet for him. So he’s always “Omg my boyfriend is the best!”

“My turtle duck is the prettiest!” While they’re having a conversation on one of their walks. I assume zuko would love long walks in the sunset cause he loves the sun and it keeps him calm and steady too. So very evening they’re the couple that’s so loud and sometimes they bicker and now the dorm memebers keep their windows open in the evenings to hear their chatter and flirtings.

A week goes by and no one hears anything from the boys , and zuko finds himself opening his dorm door so so many people asking about sokka, if they broke up is he sick and what not but it’s not that sokka was nominated to attend an engineer summit thingy and present his invention.

By the time sokka’s back everyone’s made him some celebratory gift and wishes him and zuko a long long relationship with longevity symbols from their various cultures 😂
