Zongkhul monastery, also spelled as Dzongkhul, is a fascinating cave architecture with a touch of peace and seclusion; located in the arid valley of Stod, Zanskar. The history of monastery dates back to the time of Naropa (956-1041 CE) who is said to have meditated here in a cave around the gompa. This monastery belongs to the Drukpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Trek to Umasi la (5340m) A standout amongst the most remote and difficult treks, the trail offers astounding perspectives of the Zanskar, Pir-Panjal and Kishtwar ranges of Indian Himalayas. The trek traverses from the dry Zanskar to the greener slopes of Kishtwar with deodar and conifer woodlands. @hippie_in_hills we have completed our recce for this long awaiting strenuous trek, a gem in the Indian Himalayas. Sadly, very few tour operators run this trek now due to its remoteness, unavailability of knowledgeable guides and lack of the right clientele. We would be starting with our commercial groups for this particular route from the summer of 2022. Do let us know if you are planning for a challenging long trek next summer.
