Now. I never heard of Sabra and Shatila, but I googled that. According to Wikipedia the sabra and shatila massacre was done by the Lebanese Forces, not by Israel, though the IDF could've stopped it and didn't. It was met, again, according to Wikipedia, with disdain and critism in Israel and with calls to fire the prime minister of the time. The Lebanese Forces, by the way, was a mainly Christian group.

I can't find information about your claims that these specific deeds were done, but admittedly I only skimmed the article. However, I fail to see how the fact that these attrocities were commited during one group make them fine to be done to another. Make up your mind- are those actions valid during a war, or not? You can't say they're bad when done by Israel's allies(not even israel itself), but fine when done to Israelis.

Okay. Fuck it. I've reblogged enough posts, I need to speak. Whatever the FUCK isr@el is doing isn't about "Hamas" anymore. We've already established that it's genocide but they've been using Hamas as an excuse to KILL innocent people despite saying they would "try to minimize unneeded casualties" or.. whatever. man. i feel like such an outsider to jewish (specifically yiddish) culture since my great grandma stopped passing on nearly all yiddish traditions to her kids to keep them safe after WWII but like. there's definitely still the ghost of it in our family today.

my mom makes a wonderful matzo ball soup from my great grandma's recipe. same with latkes.

on our christmas tree we have a star of david inherited from my great grandma.

we use a lot of yiddish words when talking to each other ("i need to kvetch for a second," "you have schmutz on your face," "oy vey!", etc.).

hell, even my given name (now a middle name) is yiddish.

but none of the other traditions remain. just the echos of what used to be. and i can't even talk to even my grandmother about her mother since she's dead.

it's just. really isolating. and i have a lot of imposter syndrome surrounding it.

when i try to learn about yiddish traditions, i worry that i'm just an outsider stealing someone else's culture.

and it sucks.
