Jewish people in the diaspora: Hey I believe Palestinians should have self-determination and rights that have for too long been denied to them and I believe the architects of Israel's response have gone too far and slaughtered and displaced innocents and the human cost of this "self defense" is too great and something needs to be done to stop this before it's too late, Palestinians deserve their place in the Levant and the ability to self-govern, but hey it's also kind of concerning that some of you will ignore when actual dangerous antisemitism is being displayed and spread and I'd just really appreciate if you also would watch out for people like that in the pro-Palestine movement and call people like that out, thank you

something that really pisses me off from like a capitalist realism perspective is that advertising and marketing more broadly are presented as the sites that must be at the forefront of progress/change. marketing is seen as the place where change happens. so u have people hailing things like gender neutral beauty brands, plus size models in ads, rainbow capitalism, and other such diversity bullshit as representative of progress. and if u say 'its not progress they just want ur money' ppl are always like "oh but its representative of broader societal change cos it shows [insert minority] are now a viable marketable demographic" like since when the fuck has being a 'marketable demographic' been representative of anything?? women have been the most marketable demographic since ads were invented, do u know how many ads were geared toward women in the 1950s for example? im sure that was representative of something, but progress was not it. or ppl are like "ppl deserve to see themselves in advertising" why? so they can buy more products? marketing is manipulation pure and simple. buying things will not give u power. progress is not represented by your ability to buy things. some guy in an article i read once said that “branding, packaging, fashion, and even the act of shopping itself are now the central meaning-making acts in our postmodern world.” that sucks! we do so much more than that as humans! why the hell would u want to be reduced to a marketable demographic? all that shows is that your movement has been eaten by capitalism. not approved by capitalism (which, why would u want that anyway?), but eaten. coopted by neoliberalism that presents identity as what products you consume. if youre being represented in marketing that just means that capitalism is trying to take the reins of progress from you so that it can steer the ship from now on, to stop u from actually achieving something.
as always, heres that quote everyone shares from the wikipedia page for the book 'capitalist realism' by mark fisher: "According to Fisher, capitalist realism has so captured public thought that the idea of anti-capitalism no longer acts as the antithesis to capitalism. Instead, it is deployed as a means for reinforcing capitalism. This is done through media which aims to provide a safe means of consuming anti-capitalist ideas without actually challenging the system. The lack of coherent alternatives, as presented through the lens of capitalist realism, leads many anti-capitalist movements to cease targeting the end of capitalism, but instead to mitigate its worst effects, often through individual consumption-based activities"
movements for progress are being 'deployed as a means for reinforcing capitalism' when they are featured in advertising. everything is now reduced to individual consumption-based activities, where progress is made when one becomes part of a marketable demographic who can now buy products because we have 'seen ourselves' in ads. you are living your life as a consumer, a person who buys things, who can change the world by choosing where to put their money. consumerism is literally the idea that buying something betters u as a person, and that can be extended to the idea that buying something betters the world. it doesnt. in the words of cj the x on youtube: ur not a consumer, youre a person. dont let them tell u there isnt a difference.
