The gate squeaked as it opened and Trixie shushed Katya as he followed behind. The pool had closed hours ago, but the latch had proved faulty and Trixie was glad that he didn’t have to scale the fence as part of Katya’s hair brain scheme for a midnight dip.

The lights strung along the patio were off, a sign that guests should not be in this area. But the sky was impossibly bright, a shade of blue neither of them had ever seen before, stars speckled so dense across it.

When Trixie had brought up the idea of a trip to Zion, Katya had surely thought it was a hypothetical. Even as they talked about it at length, he assumed it was the same as when Trixie talked about running away to some tropical beach and ditching their phones somewhere along the way. Sure, they were actually going to Utah, but it wasn’t until his assistant was confirming flight details that Katya realized Trixie had been serious.

The four hour drive, just the two of them in the rental car, should have been long enough for the decision to really sink in. Instead the disbelief gave way to utter awe as the landscape unfolded in front of them.

Dropping the towels on a deck chair, Katya turned to Trixie. He had barely made it two steps in, neck craned up to take in the sight. Even with his mouth slightly ajar, Katya could see the relaxation on Trixie’s face. That alone made the whole damn trip worth it.

Katya’s flip flops slapped onto the ground and Trixie turned toward the sound. Trixie watched as Katya pulled the t-shirt over his head, revealing muscle after muscle. With his attention decidedly shifted, Trixie walked toward the pool as Katya slipped in. Quickly Trixie followed suit.

They each made leisurely strokes through the water, unintentionally swimming to opposite ends of the pool. When Katya realized, he called out, “Marco!” A laugh following.

“Shh, someone is going to hear us!” Trixie loudly whispered.

“Then come over here.”

With a sigh, Trixie swam toward Katya.

“You’re not going to get in trouble,” Katya reassured Trixie as he reached Katya’s side.

All of the scenarios Trixie had been playing through his mind were on the tip of his tongue, but he felt the brush of Katya’s hand. Felt Katya’s eyes focused on him. And as he met Katya’s gaze, he let the thoughts drift away.

Treading water, they both fell silent.

The sky beckoned to them, a work of art right in front of their eyes. They had been stunned by beauty all day; the pictures they had seen nothing in comparison to experiencing the national park in person. But there was something so simple, so daunting, so inspiring about the unpolluted night sky.

Both let out a gasp as a shooting star appeared, burning even brighter. Squeezing his eyes shut, Katya held a thought in his mind.

“I wish we had more days like this,” Trixie said. He bumped his should into Katya’s. “What did you wish for?”

“You’re not supposed to say, or it might not come true,” Katya told him.

Trixie felt a laugh rise in his throat and he tried to stop it, at first because he knew it would be too loud. And then because he saw the look in Katya’s eye. Katya wasn’t joking.

They looked at each other for another beat as Trixie felt his heart begin to race. This time it wasn’t because of anxiety. He watched as Katya’s lips parted just slightly, and then his eyes darted back up to the sky.

Two more shooting stars blazed through, one after another. Daring to look at Katya, Trixie saw him close his eyes. Trixie took a deep breath and did the same.

He wished for more chances, even though he knew he had already blown so many. And he wished for the courage to follow through — soon.

“Haesol I’m a grown woman. I can go to the doctor on my own.” You sat in silence waiting for Haesol to respond to your request.

He continued to ignore your protests making it clear he was set on accompanying you to the doctor. Even if you had betrayed him he was still worried about you. He wanted to make sure you were fine.

“You have a meeting with Young Woo tomorrow anyway. Move it up to the time I’ll be at the doctor that way you can see I’m telling the truth.” If Haesol didn’t let you go on your own you would be in trouble. After letting Young Woo know about your situation you cried in his arms.

You admitted to being scared of finding out who was the father of your baby. Right now all you had to go on was a home pregnancy test. Those only told you whether you were or weren’t pregnant. What you needed to know was how long had you been this way.

“I don’t think that will be possible.”

“Why not?” You stood up in front of him wanting a straight answer.

“What if you have multiple affairs?”

You slapped him only hard enough for his head to turn slightly to the left. “I’m not like you!” During the beginning of your marriage, he had slept with multiple women. You never confronted him knowing how it would affect his reputation and really you weren’t ready to let go of him. At that time you were in love with him.

“Jagiya…” he reached out to hold your arms but you shook him away. it was evident in his voice that he was worried.

“Don’t call me that.” You sighed heavily, it took all your strength to not expose his lies in that moment. “Tomorrow I am going alone. If you even think of following me think again because everyone will find out exactly how much of a joke this marriage is.”

His eyes followed your movements as you stepped out of his home office. To his knowledge, you never knew anything about his affairs. He had managed to stop and conceal them before anyone found out. “No” his mind raced through his memories of those times. He remembered the person who had helped him cover up his mistakes.

The next day after getting ready you passed by Haesol as he sat down to have breakfast. “I’ll be going now.”

“Fine” he promptly responded. He didn’t look up from his food knowing very well he couldn’t look at you in the eyes. But, he did have to inform you of something. “Don’t be late.”

After you left Haesol retrieved his cellphone from his pocket and sent a message to Young Woo. He wanted to meet him as soon as possible.

Haesol: Young Woo let’s talk today. Same spot.

Young Woo: I’ll meet you later.

“Hello, Mrs. Kim I’m here to take your ultrasound.” The ultrasound technician set up her equipment while you lay on the examination table in worry. She could tell you were nervous by the way your eyes shifted around her equipment. “The first time you see your baby is always exciting.”

“Yeah” you tried to smile. Excitement wasn’t what you were feeling. You were anxious, nervous, stressed, but most importantly scared. Scared to find out exactly whose baby you were carrying.

The technician began to prep you by pulling up your shirt and laying down a towel at the end of your abdomen. Having your small bump exposed was different for a change. You had tried very hard to hide it since you began to see it. “The gel will be a little cold” she informed you before squeezing a fair amount of green gel onto the middle of your stomach.

You held your breath as she began to roll the device on your stomach. You watched her hands as she began pressing buttons with her left hand and rolled the device around with her right. “Oh, how interesting” she commented.

“What’s interesting?”

“Do you feel anything? Any pressure against your bladder?”

“No” you responded with concern. “Is that bad?”

“Oh no, don’t worry Mrs. Kim.” She moved the screen so it was now within view. “You see your baby is really moving in there but you can’t feel it so I’m going to say the fetus isn’t strong enough yet.”

Your eyes wandered to the screen as you saw the outline of small hands. The head was most noticeable, you could even make out some features like the smallest lump in the middle that was the nose. A tear slid down your cheek reaching your lips. “It’s so different than I expected. I thought it would be less human-like.”

Both you and the technician laughed at your choice of words. “Oh no, at 12 weeks your baby is developing just fine. Its skeleton is currently being formed of cartilage that’s why the movements don’t have any effect on you. In the next few weeks the cartilage will become bone and then you will begin to feel the movements.”

“12 weeks?” You asked trying to assure you had heard correctly. “Are you sure it’s been 12 weeks?”

“Yeah, you could probably hear a clear heartbeat. Let me just adjust this.” She began pressing some buttons and before you knew it the room was filled with the sounds of your unborn child’s heartbeat. Tears of joy began to fall freely and you began to enjoy the experience of being pregnant.

This was Young Woo’s baby. “12 weeks, you’ve been here that long?” Three months ago the only man you had been with was Young Woo.

Haesol and Young Woo sat in silence as each one dared the other to begin. It was clear that this wouldn’t be a business talk. “What did you want to talk about.” Young Woo decided to finally ask.

“I feel like you and I are best friends because we know many things about each other that others don’t.”

Young Woo nodded in agreement.

“I, for example, am one of the few people who know you have gone to prison and that you are banned from certain countries.”

“That is true.” Young Woo didn’t really care if people knew his secrets. It didn’t bother him because it’s part of his past, he was a better man for it.

Haesol sighed, “now you know many things about me as well but there is one thing that only you know about me. Back when I first married my wife I indulged in many affairs and you so graciously helped me cover them up.”

Young Woo wasn’t proud of helping Haesol but he was glad he did it. After having a guilty conscience he went to tell you the truth. That was the day it all began between you two. You felt unwanted, while Young Woo saw you in a weak state he felt himself wanting to protect you. “Are you wondering if I told your wife?” Young Woo decided it was time to stop tip-toeing around the subject.

“I’m not wondering. I know you did. You told her about it so you could sleep with her!” Haesol was reaching a boiling point while Young Woo remained calm.

“What do you care? You were sleeping with other women.”

“She’s still my wife!”

“Not for long.” Young Woo reached into his jacket pulling out an envelope. He went over to Haesol and dropped it onto his lap. “Those are the divorce papers. Sign them quickly.”

Haesol’s brow furrowed. “Are you crazy? Why would I do that?”

“Y/N is pregnant and I would like to marry her before our child is born.”

“What?!”

You tossed and turned as you laid in the dark bedroom. Your hand laid on top of your stomach trying to soothe yourself to sleep. Your eyes flew open when you heard the bedroom door open. “Young Woo” you yawned.

When he got closer to you there was a visible cut at the edge of his lip. “Oh my, Young Woo are you okay?”

“I’m fine, I’m fine” he got you to stay in bed. “Haesol deserved to get one in. He’s the idiot that lost you.” He got in bed beside you feeling content with the fact that you were permanently beside him.

“Young Woo” you hugged him taking in his scent. The strong smell of cologne mingled with that of the cigarette he had probably smoked before getting there. “I love you Young Woo.”

“I love you too.” Young Woo ran his fingers through your hair soothing you back to sleep.Now after more than a year-long affair you were beside him. It was the first time he would be able to sleep comfortably by your side and wake up to your face every morning.

About the Matrix movies

I watched the 2nd and 3rd for the first time this weekend. I am posting this now because apparently there will be a 4th movie and it is the hell of a coincidence.

I hadn’t watched them when they first came out because I was lazy and everyone was saying that they weren’t good. Also, I had enjoyed the first one so much that was afraid the 2nd and 3rd would change its taste. That may be also why everyone said they weren’t so good, the first one was stunning.

Before I continue: you may disagree with my vision and with what I understood from these movies. I would like to hear other perspectives as long as you don’t insult me. I do think we all agree that the so-called red-pills did not watch the same movie the Wachowskis made. 

And now: These movies are good. Evangelic in a way (The One = The Messiah, The Saviour) but that’s half of the US action movies for me (”americanada”, as we call it). And they are also groundbreaking, not only technically but also from the character and scenario point of view. They are not old if you watch them now. It’s still wonderful action, wonderful special effects and very diverse. Let’s keep in mind that I watched these two movies with the idea that it was a story about transition and transexualism. This puts the directors in a different frame, and a different society.

SPOILERS FROM  HERE

To me, it looks like the producers agreed only to a certain level of diversity in the first movie, but as they moved onto the others, the producers didn’t notice and apparently less people were watching so they started to put more and more. Like, it literally says that the Matrix is becoming white men (Agent Smith taking over the people and cloning himself) and that the real world is full of non white people (hi Zion). In the 3rd movie, there are only 5 or 6 white characters, and only 2 of them are main characters (Neo and Trinity). And they only appear at the end and they both die.

Also, in the 3rd movie, they made sure to have some badass women doing badass things (Niobe driving the ship and making the men characters mention how well she drives; Zee and her probably lesbian mate shooting bazookas)

In the 2nd movie, you see it goes there, they make sure to show it but apparently too many people were still watching for them to be so open. In both the 2nd and the 3rd are 2 very sexual scenes that are both explicit and incredible well done (the orgy in the temple and the Merovingian’s BDSM club). In both of them you can see lesbians going for it but very casually and quite respectfully, you may miss it. There are also gays. And it’s well portrayed so it’s safe to assume these sisters know what they are talking about here..

Speaking of sex: very refreshing that the first sex scene between Neo and Trinity was an established couple that is horny and really wants it. It’s not romantic, it’s passionate and necessary. And they begin in a lift. That is how couples fuck.

Also refresing to have Persephone asking for sex and being extremely sexual. It was a completely unnecesary scene, yes, but it’s usually men playing those games.

And now about women: there are barely to none misogynistic comments or reactions. There are women in positions of power and they are listened to and treated like equals. When in disagreement, the men disagree with their opinions or plans, not with their womanhood. It is so subtle yet clear, that at some point, in the 3rd movie, when Agent Smith goes into the real world to kill Neo, he finds Trinity going towards him and says “I knew he’ll send his bitch” (or something like that) and it surprised me because it’s the first time in two movies (I hadn’t re-watch the first one) that someone uses that language towards a woman, to diminish her not as an ennemy, but as a woman.

It makes sense: Agent Smith doesn’t keep up. He wants to take over the Matrix and make everyone his literal equal but even the machines don’t like him. As the Oracle says "We can never see beyond a choice we don't understand" and that is what happens with Agent Smith, he didn’t really choose but he also can’t understand other choices, which is what ultimately ends with him.

I loved it when Neo and Agent Smith are in the final battle and Agent Smith cannot understand why Neo keeps fighting. Neo just says “Because I choose to”. I liked this moment just because it was an excellent conversation about suicide ideas. I keep fighting because I choose to. That is literally how life Works.

But if we stay in the transexualism vision, the white man in power is literally fighting Neo, or Mr. Anderson as he keeps insisting, and struggle to understand why wouldn’t Neo assimilate, why wouldn’t this man in a dress (yes, Neo wears a dress for 2 movies) accept and integrate. But something clicks, and Agent Smith says “Neo”, recognising him. And what happens when Neo assimilates is that Neo dies but so does Agent Smith. 

I’m not sure what this means but the Oracle said she was there to unbalance what the Architect wants to balance. Again, a minority (in this case represented by a black woman) opposes a white man. It is all power dynamics and balance, and how it may look like balance is necessary but maybe it’s not so. They really reinforced this idea in the epilogue, when a black woman, an indian child and an asian man say they’d keep an eye on the white man so that things stay peaceful.

So yeah, they are certainly not as bad as people are saying, and they have layers over layers, which is more than we bargain for in action movies. I’d put it at the same level of Mad Max Fury Road in content and action.
