Terminal and the Inspirations from Other Places
Around the start of the month I did a big post on Terminal and how the Matrix inspired it as well as generally espounding on my thoughts around influence, pastiche, and analogues. I found it interesting, and some people enjoyed reading it, so I figured I'd do a post on all the other things that inspired Terminal.
Ok, almost definitely not covering all the other things. But some of them. The big ones maybe. Or the thing that are easiest for me to explain.
(This will also involve previewing some of the full game. Any art in this post is by Gormengeist and any completed layout was done by me, while any text will have been written by me and edited by Alyssa.)
Let's start of by sharing the Inspirations and Influences pages from the book itself.
Tumblr media
Some of these will only probably ever make sense to me, and that's fine, that's how creating things goes. I won't go linearly, I guess I'll go in order of what seems important. At least to start, I'll probably end up following some whims.
Black Sails/Treasure Island
I think this is something I got asked on both The Weekly Scroll, by Zach on This is Your Lifepath, and also just by people. "Why'd you add pirates?"
I actually tried looking through some notepads where I first jotted down ideas to see if I recorded my actual thought process as it happened. No dice. "Zion as Pirates" is one of the earliest notes I have.
I think my early logic was about avoiding just doing a complete 1-2-1 of how reality was in the Matrix. First this just started as "I don't wanna do the sun blocked out thing and the energy stuff" and I think that evolved into the shattered moon and flooded Earth which made arriving at pirates logical; sailing the seas rather than jetting around underground tunnels.
It was in righting and exploring these early ideas I found a resonance with pirates that made me excited to make that such a core part of the book; themes about rejecting society and civilization, loyalty among a crew, the idea of being an outlaw, the Robot Authority as the British Navy.
Being honest the line I often used of "The Matrix x Black Sails" was more using Black Sails as a touchstone to convey an idea, rather than crediting for my conception of pirates. It speaks to a pirate epic and the focus on pirates creating a home.
Libertatia was down as the placeholder name "Pirate Island" for much longer than you'd expect (I think I had some crews written at this time but nothing about the setting). Someone suggested the name when I asked for ideas and doing some research the pirate legend ended up informing the development of the setting. Libertatia is implicitly anarcho-communist rather than the more heirachy based structure of Zion seen in the Matrix films.
I also like how this created such a different relationship with your home setting that the one in Inevitable, the books system influence which focuses on protecting a kingdom. In Inevitable you are given quests by your king, or more often the king's advisors, and you're an agent of a crumbling monarchy. In Terminal people suggest things that someone should deal with but none of the NPCs have any authority or ability to command your characters, you have to choose to listen to them.
Tumblr media
Twin Peaks/Lost Highway/Blue Velvet
I'll go to this next as it was the third influence that got shouted out in articles. The answer to "why" Lynch was such an influence is basically that I'm a fan and so his work is on my mind frequently enough that it's a common influence.
The sort of eery dream-logic is part of the influence, though that also draws from lots of other things. I notice dream logic or living dreams are a recurrent theme in a lot of my work, which is interesting for someone who never remembers any dreams. The way your dreams are walked through by sinister forces was definitely aping some of Fire Walk with Me.
The inclusion of doppelgangers, of yourself, of people you love, people who loved you, that's coming from the Return for sure. It's also hitting a theme of embracing your own imperfections and messiness as some of these antagonist doppelgangers are explicitly versions built around expectations characters couldn't or wouldn't live up to.
The Puppeteer, a villainous program who strives to manipulate people emotions to inflict psychological torture, has some of the Mystery Man from Lost Highway in him as well as the Man from Another Place's desire for armonbozia" (pain and sorrow). The fact that The Seer, our prophetic program who serves as a tense pirate ally, is always met on a lost highway is more in the realm of a reference.
The Crash, the name for Terminal's major story arcs, Tortures of the Killer combines a lot of Lynch influence. The Killer has influences from Frank from Blue Velvet and BOB from Twin Peaks though without the sexual violence being a major aspect of the character, instead the Killer's focus is in blackmail and threats. The video tape element draws from Lost Highway while the setting of that scenario draws on Blue Velvet as well.
A pair of linked characters, The Arm and someone more mysterious, are another thing more in the realm of reference rather than attempted analogue. I think the big influence for those characters is my own interest in the ideas of partitioning off aspects of yourself, and then having to deal with those aspects brought to life, because of some of my personal experience.
Tumblr media
Paprika
Paprika was the fourth big influence I explicitly shouted out in marketing. This relates to the dream hopping element.
In Terminal freeing someone from the simulation involves delving into their dreams and guiding them to a door they must open to wake themselves up. The reason I came up with this was that basically because of how the red pill/blue pill symbolism got used after the release of the Matrix I felt I needed to avoid anything to close to that. Dream delving came to me probably because of my aforementioned fixation on dreams in fiction, and also the way that distinction between dreaming and waking is so blurred in Neo's early life.
It also put me in the mind of Paprika, which in turn influenced the Crash The Dying Dream, specifically the Dream Parade influenced a lot of how that developed. I think following a whim I'll do a section on all the stuff that ended up combo-ing to form this Crash, cause it's maybe an interesting insight into how I wrote.
Tumblr media
The Dying Dream
My memory isn't super exact but I recall the early writing process in Terminal, once the big central idea and themes were sketched out, involved some jotted down ideas for Crashes and then I ended up writing a big list of characters. I think I wrote a document of routine programs, a document of obsolete programs, a document of Robot Authority characters, a document of Special Agents (at that time called officers) and a document of pirates. I think with some characters written I began combining them with Crash ideas that i started writing in full.
There was a lot of jumping around. This wasn't an linear process at all. There were some ideas for Crashes that could quashed and then ended up creating other parts of the story (initially finding the Omen was a Crash and they were going to be an NPC, quashing that Crash came with jumping to writing the stuff about characters becoming Omen, together). I interrupted this to properly sketch out Libertatia and with that came a lot of new pirates. I think there's a chance the Hedonist has an associated Crash at some point before I decided I liked her better as an a sort-of-not-really ally.
Anyway when I wrote the Special Agents I had a few ideas; a "standard" agent who exposed the ways other deviated, a agent deliberately created as a woman to poke at gender-based hang-ups some characters could have, 0 our agent-turned-malware and then a pair of agents; one who'd been corrupted and deleted and their partner who's reaction to this was question everything they thought they knew.
(The reason I initially named the Special Agents Officers was to make them seem a little further away from the Matrix agents, but once I decided on this angle with a character questioning their role I enjoyed the wordplay in fact that the agents lack agency so renamed them.)
So I had this pair but no idea what Crash they'd end up in. The Archivist was an early Crash, the idea for Multipled by 0 came early on, "hacked pirates" was the note that lead Corruptions of The Passenger. But I was a little stuck on Crashes full stop and none of them served as a home for these two agents, and I wanted these two in the book.
I ended up thinking about Inevitable and what purpose the story arcs, called Dooms there, played. The Tower Wizards Doom takes your cadre into the dangerous Wizard's Bluff to retrieve a dangerous artefact that's crash landed there. I tried to think of what a Crash could look like where the threat wasn't a specific character but a situation.
This brought me to the Dream Parade from Paprika and so I settled on a dying dreamer's nightmares corrupting a domain. The corrupted agent I had in my notes (Special Agent 7) got changed to have been corrupted by this situation and their partner (Special Agent 5) had a place as a possible obstruction, ally, or strange encounter.
Figuring out what the artefact at the centre of the Dying Dream was was part of what lead to Transmit, the last Omen, emerging as such a major character (the other thing that contributed to this was the need for the Omen code to have been modified) and that lead to a hidden story arc in the book that reflects some of the core themes about the power of positive connection being able to save you from people who want to control you and make you feel crazy.
Tumblr media
Some Smaller Inlfuences, Explained as Well as I Can
The Wizard of Oz is on the list partly for doppelgangers, but also partly for the way its influence is felt in The Matrix and David Lynch's work (hence Lynch/Oz, the video essay film, being included). It's also there because the character of The Wizard, an obsolete program with the power of recognition, the ability to see what's already there, is an extended Wizard of Oz joke.
Inception is there because of dream hopping, even though my version of dreams is much more Paprika than Inception.
Stuff like Fallen Angels, Taxi Driver, and Fight Club are there for a mood that I was channelling in writing at certain points. I find making these lists interesting, when I do them, because I could restrict to to the obvious, explainable stuff, but personally I like including things where my only explanation was "I was thinking of it while writing and maybe that bled in".
Pacific Rim is there because the description of drift compatibility and the neural handshake influenced the way I described becoming the Omen and connecting your hearts to share the code. (I do find it interesting which things I knew were influencing me as i was writing - Matrix, Twin Peaks, Paprika, etc - vs things I only really noticed after the fact like this Pacific Rim influence).
Tumblr media
I mentioned in the Matrix influences post that The Hedonist was partly influenced by Carrie Ann Moss's character in Mass Effect 2. That's part of why that's on the list. The other thing is that the eventual way I settled on travel (a map for the Wake with various mind docks that you travel to via sea and then plug you into different domains) was partly influenced by the way the overworld space travel worked in the game.
Transistor influenced depictions of certain places; the inner workings of the Terminal, corrupted domains on the verge of system crash. Additionally it was something that I think, this is a part in reflection, influenced two character's relationship.
Metal Gear Solid was an influence of the tagline "Digital Pirate Action", I think there were other reasons I added it to the list though I can't recall them right now.
Finding Yeezus, a pop culturual investigate docu series about the creator of a viral ARG game, is on the list for being part of what got me thinking about the Matrix again so much.
The music list is mainly music I listened to while writing, in some cases certain lyrics felt very resonant to me.
Monsterhearts and Apocalypse World are there, and there together, because there's an optional move around physical intimacy and in developing that I read back over the sex moves in both games.
Dream Askew and Dream Apart is credited because of how the "Pick questions to ask left and right" technique became a big part of character creation.
Orbital Blues is there as it influenced some of the ship creation stuff.
Influence Comes from Lots of Places
So like I said a YouTube series is there because it was part of what got me thinking about the Matrix again. It wasn't the main thing though. That was because my therapist at the time used multiple Matrix metaphors with me in sessions. (I managed to resist replying to her first question of "Have you seen the Matrix?" with "Yeah, I'm trans" and I'll never get enough credit for that).
I like learning about the things that inspire people. I do a whole podcast about, so you'd hope that's the case. But I know that's not always as clear cut as influences from other works of art. That's a big thing, obviously, and it's a thing that can help with marketing in a way that talking therapy doesn't. But this life stuff is also pretty huge.
Tumblr media
This is the title page for Terminal (subject to change, credits for the stretch goal writers need to be added in). I think the thanks are as important, honestly more important, in terms of saying what made the book what it is. In many ways Terminal is a break-up album. If it's a love letter to anything it's to my best friend before it's to the Matrix. It's about the way I've felt crazy, and against the people who wanted me to feel that way. One of the domains is a thinly veiled Canary Wharf because that's a place I really hate. Also auteur theory is bullshit and the book is also only what it is because of Gormengeist and Alyssa in combination with me.
When it comes out I hope people like it, and I sincerely believe this book is great and enjoying it doesn't rely on understanding any of the things I've spent two overly-long tumblr posts going on about.
“The connection we share is deeper than the sea, realer than blood and tougher than steel blades. It’s the connection you feel when you look at someone and know that you are the same, that they’re one of yours and you’re one of theirs.” - Ariadne

Abigail Claremont-Diaz ✤ Miss Americana
For all that Abigail Claremont-Diaz wanted to build a name for herself outside of being First Daughter Of The United States, she also couldn’t imagine her life without the past four years.  Without her daily commute from the White House to the GWU campus, without the secret service always a step behind her, without the beautiful, bustling streets of DC to call her own.  She missed Texas, it would always hold a special place in her heart, but she couldn’t imagine life if she’d never left.  She certainly couldn’t imagine her life if she’d never started dating the Prince of Wales — although did it count as dating if her eyes always strayed to his sister?  Abi had spent four years building her perfect life under the microscope of Capitol Hill but, much like a £75,000 wedding cake, her twin brother’s lack of impulse control and obsession with her boyfriend had to send it crashing down around her.

FO: Desert-Inspired K+C Tote
Hallo friends!
You may have noticed I stepped away for a bit on this blog. Last time I posted, it was a couple days before Mother's Day in the US, and I had just had to frog over 10 inches of scarf due to an error. Learn from me - count your stitches. I got too confident.
So I intentionally took a bit of a break, partly because I was about to go on a trip for vacation, and partly because I was on a milestone long-term vacation leave for four weeks and I was intentionally trying to make the time disconnected from work to decompress and relax. I tried not to put pressure on myself to post. But I did try to stay somewhat productive with my crafting. Frogging was an absolute bummer, so I managed ... eh, four rows on that thing.
I regrouped by starting some new WIPs, and one of them I actually finished.
I found myself at the local JOANN (craft store chain in the US) during my time off, and even though I just needed a size up in knitting needles, I had wanted to give their K+C brand cotton yarn a feel, a try if I liked it.
For a quick reference: K+C Cotton - Category 3, 100% cotton, 180 yards, 3.5 oz.
I really like enjoy their labelling, which includes a knit stockinette image of what the yarn will look like worked up. It's a very nice touch, as yarns can evolve in their aesthetic from skein or hank, cake or ball, and in the final presentation of your piece.
As I was there, I was inspired by the colors to prepare a desert themed tote. My vacation in a few days would be to travel to a part of the country I've never visited including the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and the deserts in Arizona and Nevada.
Since I am home now, here are a couple shots from my trip, and you can let me know how well I managed to match colors before ever seeing these places in person! (note, all pictures taken by me - Canon Rebel T8i)
Tumblr media
My JOANN had a selection of the colors, and Zion was not among them. But not all was lost. Though some of the names of the yarns are direct hits to the above, I chose four colorways for my desert colors.
For places I was going to visit - Canyon, Red Rocks For complementary colors - Santa Fe, Golden Coast
We're going oranges, reds, yellows, a scattering of grey.
I used the recommended 3.75 mm crochet hook throughout.
Tumblr media
I knew I wanted the Golden Coast yellow to be my border, so to start I just started cranking out granny squares. Canyon became the consistent color in each of the squares, and I used either Santa Fe or Red Rocks with the variegated stripes as the main color scheme.
The granny square itself is motif #113 in Beyond the Square: Crochet Motifs, by Edie Eckman, and I love it for that extra bit of variety and those beautiful circle centers that truly show off the variegated yarns.
The layout you see above is a common structure for creating a bag. There are a few different graphics you can use, and this is a 13-square version, and you'll find it in a number of patterns. There is one more Red Rocks square than the Santa Fe, and as you can see I did some rearranging throughout the layout before I decided on the final in the left hand picture. I did some winging it with connecting all the squares together, but I knew I wanted the yellow to pop. So I used a single crochet border to connect all the squares. Since it's the front of the squares, the actually granny sits a bit behind. Some good 3-D flair, in my opinion.
If you've made it this far, thank you so much! I know the exciting part is the final piece, so here ya go!
Tumblr media
I know I should have gotten a photo of her out in the desert wilds, but I am afraid I used this bag to hold all of my crafting items throughout the trip, so she was less portable than my purse.
I loved working with this yarn - the variegation was a constant surprise, especially since I worked it up in crochet instead of knit, and the color options give you a lot to play with even with the solids. It was a soft cotton that felt good on my hands. The pattern worked up quickly, both in the granny construction and final assembly, but I did work on it exclusively and for a few days in a row.
Now I just need to choose where to go next, and whether to bring her along or start a new one!

Evolution of Exhibition Companies in Delhi
Gone are the days when exhibitions were mere showcases of products and services. Today, they represent a dynamic platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and business expansion. In this rapidly changing environment, top exhibition companies in Delhi are leading the charge, revolutionizing traditional practices to meet the demands of the digital era.
Embracing Virtual Platforms
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional concept of physical exhibitions took a backseat. However, this setback led to the rise of virtual platforms as viable alternatives. Recognizing this shift, exhibition companies in Delhi swiftly adapted, leveraging technology to host virtual trade shows and exhibitions. By harnessing the power of digital platforms, these companies have transcended geographical boundaries, connecting businesses and attendees on a global scale.
Enhanced Safety Measures
In the wake of the pandemic, ensuring the safety and well-being of attendees has become paramount. Exhibition companies in Delhi are implementing stringent safety protocols, including temperature checks, mandatory mask-wearing, and sanitization stations. By prioritizing health and hygiene, these companies are instilling confidence among exhibitors and attendees, fostering a secure environment for interaction and collaboration.
Hybrid Events for Enhanced Engagement
Recognizing the importance of both physical and virtual interactions, exhibition companies in Delhi are embracing the concept of hybrid events. Combining the best of both worlds, these events seamlessly integrate in-person exhibitions with virtual components, allowing for greater reach and engagement. Attendees can choose to participate either in person or virtually, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Strategic Marketing and Promotion
In a competitive landscape, effective marketing and promotion are key to the success of exhibitions. Top exhibition companies are employing targeted strategies to reach their audience, utilizing social media, email marketing, and digital advertising to create buzz around upcoming events. By harnessing the power of SEO techniques, these companies ensure maximum visibility and engagement, driving attendance and participation.

[ad_1] Bryce Canyon is one of the Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah. Its amphitheatre of colourful hoodoos is not to be missed. Here’s how to spend one-day in Bryce Canyon National Park and see all the best sights. LAST UPDATE: 19 Jan 2024 Anywhere We Roam is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a small affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support - Paul & Mark. Bryce Canyon National Park is a geological wonder. Stunning amphitheatres are filled with row upon row of towering spire-shaped rock formations known as hoodoos. These hoodoos are a vibrant mix of reds and oranges, pinks and whites. In the early morning light, they look like they’re on fire. Hoodoos come is all shapes and sizes, formed by nature into figures that resemble cultural icons including Thor’s Hammer and Queen Victoria. Bryce Canyon National Park is not that big, and the highlights can be comfortably explored in one day on several achievable hikes in the area. Here’s our one day in Bryce itinerary, it captures all the best views and visits the strangest rock formations. There’s a map of the area and tips on where to stay. BRYCE NATIONAL PARK HOW MANY DAYS IN BRYCE CANYON? One day is the perfect amount of time in Bryce Canyon National Park. Plan your itinerary well and you can see all the best viewpoints and hike to the most interesting parts of the amphitheatre.  Avid hikers may want to spend longer, but with so much else to see in Utah we recommend following our 2-week road trip itinerary and heading on to Zion Canyon National Park or Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. BRYCE CANYON LAYOUT Bryce Canyon National Park is relatively small. One main road runs from north to south with viewpoints stretched along its length. It only takes about 30 minutes to drive from one end to the other. The most dramatic part of the park is the main amphitheatre which sits just under the rim between Bryce Point and Sunrise Point. QUEEN’S GARDEN MAP | BRYCE CANYON The map below shows the layout of the main amphitheatre area and includes our favorite viewpoints and hiking trails. Rim Trail from Sunset to Sunrise Point – brown. Navajo Loop Trail – orange. Queen’s Garden Trail – red. Peekaboo Loop Trail – purple. >> How to use this map / Click on the top left of the map to display the list of locations, then click on the locations to display further information. Click on the top right corner of the map to open a larger version in a new tab or the star to save to your Google Maps.   SUNRISE AT BRYCE CANYON Dawn in Bryce Canyon National Park is magical. As the sun rises over the horizon it gradually lights up all the hoodoos in the amphitheatre. The slightly dull browns become a shimmering of pinks, oranges, and reds. The best viewpoint at sunrise is (not the misnamed Sunrise Point) but Bryce Point. From here you get a view of the entire sweep of the amphitheatre as the sun lights it up. It can get busy, so it’s worth arriving 15 to 30 minutes before the sun comes up. There’s a large parking lot next to the viewpoint which is a 10-minute drive from the visitors’ centre. Breakfast – If you fancy breakfast after the early start, Bryce Canyon Lodge serves breakfast from 7 am to 10 am (April to October) and has a choice of buffet or à la carte. They don’t take reservations, so you can just turn up. BRYCE POINT MORNING IN BRYCE CANYON Straight after breakfast is the best time to hit the trails before it gets too hot. With only one day in Bryce Canyon, you should focus on exploring the main amphitheatre between Bryce Point and Sunrise Point. There are hikes for all abilities, so pick the one that suits you most. 1. RIM TRAIL The Rim Trail is an almost entirely flat walk along the edge of the canyon rim. Looking down on the hoodoos you’ll be able to make out some of the strange shapes like Thor’s Hammer. The views gradually change as you arc around the amphitheatre. It’s a very easy hike and you can pick the length you want to complete.
Sunset to Sunrise Point (brown on map) – 0.5 miles | 20 minutes Inspiration to Sunrise Point – 1.2 miles | 40 minutes Bryce Point to Sunrise Point – 2.7 miles | 1 hour 30 minutes Shuttle buses run on the road behind the rim, so you can walk one way and get the bus back. RIM TRAIL VIEWS 2. NAVAJO LOOP TRAIL The Navajo Loop trail begins at Sunset Point. It drops just over 500 feet down the canyon via sharp switchbacks between narrow walls. Along the way it passes the famous hoodoo called Thor’s Hammer and Douglas Fir trees that contrast beautifully with the orange rock. The loop has two sides: Two Bridges and Wall Street. The park authorities recommend hiking down Wall Street and up Two Bridges. The hike is only 1.3 miles but with 500 feet of ascent and descent it can take 1 hour to 90 minutes. (Marked in orange on map above) Unfortunately, the walk cannot be completed in winter as Wall Street closes. It was also closed in fall 2023 due to trail damage, so check the latest information before you set off. NAVAJO LOOP NAVAJO LOOP THOR’S HAMMER 3. QUEENS AND NAVAJO COMBINATION LOOP This is the most popular hike in Bryce Canyon National Park. It heads along the Rim Trail (brown on map) between Sunset and Sunrise Point, drops down into the canyon via Queen’s Garden Trail (red on map) and climbs back up to the rim using the Two Bridges section of the Navajo loop (orange on map). It’s a great contrasting combination of trails. The Rim trail offers grand views over the canyon, the Queen’s Garden Trail sweeps gracefully around the hoodoos, while the Two Bridges section is wedged between the narrow canyon walls. The walk is 2.9 miles long with 625 feet of ascent and descent. It takes about 2 – 3 hours. QUEEN VICTORIA QUEEN’S GARDEN TRAIL 4. FIGURE 8 If you’re an avid hiker, we recommend the Figure 8 trail. It combines the Queen’s Trail and Navajo Loop above with the Peekaboo Loop. The Peekaboo loop is a bit tougher than the others, but the rewards are fewer people and great views over the Wall of Windows and Cathedral. It starts at Sunset Point, follows the Rim Trail to Sunrise Point (brown on the map), drops down into the canyon using Queen’s Garden Trail (red), completes the Peekaboo loop (purple on map), and reconnects with Navajo loop (orange) to climb up to the rim. The entire hike is 6.4 miles with 1,575 feet of ascent and descent and takes 4-5 hours. Half-way around there are pit toilets (summer only). WINDOWS PEEKABOO LUNCH IN BRYCE CANYON There are several options for lunch in the park, but they are usually only open from May to October. If you take one of the longer hikes (like the Figure 8) it’s a good idea to bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. The Lodge at Bryce Canyon – Lunch is served in the wood-panelled dining room from 11:30 to 3pm on a first-come-first-served basis. The General Store – Located next to Sunrise Point, it serves grab and go hot and cold foods like soup and sandwiches. Valhalla Pizzeria & Coffee Shop – Opposite Bryce Canyon Lodge it offers pizzas, salads, and drinks. Water-filling stations are at Sunset Point restrooms, and the General Store near sunrise point (May-October). AFTERNOON IN BRYCE CANYON The temperatures rise in the afternoon so it’s a good time to get in your car (or use the shuttle bus) to explore the other viewpoints in the National Park. You should have already seen Sunset and Sunrise Points on the hike, but here’s our pick of the others to see on a one-day Bryce itinerary. INSPIRATION POINT Inspiration points is a three-level viewing platform looking over the main amphitheatre. The view towards Sunset Point with the hoodoos backed by Boat Mesa is wonderful. (5-minute drive from the visitors’ centre) BRYCE POINT If you did not get here for dawn, head to Bryce Point in the afternoon. It provides the best sweeping views over the entire amphitheatre. (10-minute drive from the visitors’ centre). SUNSET POINT RAINBOW & YOVIMBA POINTS At
the very southern end of the park (a 30-minute drive from the visitors’ centre), these two viewpoints are not as dramatic as the main amphitheatre, but they do offer good views of the Grand Staircase. The Grand Staircase are a series of colourful rock layers that rise like a staircase from Grand Canyon North Rim to Bryce. At Yovimba you are standing on the Pink Cliffs, looking down at the Grey Cliffs. In the distance you can see the White Cliffs and beneath those the Red Vermilion cliffs. Much of this wonderful scenery can be explored in nearby Grand Staircase Escalante National Park.  RAINBOW POINT FAIRYLAND POINT Many visitors forget to stop at Fairyland Point. North of the visitors’ centre and down a wooded track, it provides a wonderful view of younger hoodoos overlooking Fairyland Canyon. In our opinion, it is the best viewpoint not on the main amphitheatre. (8-minute drive from the visitors’ center) To drive and stop at all the above viewpoints takes about 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes. If you don’t have that much time skip Rainbow & Yovimba Points. FAIRYLAND POINT SUNSET AT BRYCE CANYON Sunset at Bryce Canyon is nowhere near as impressive as sunrise. The main amphitheatre is facing the wrong way and most of the hoodoos are in the shade. It would be no crime to leave Bryce Canyon in the late afternoon and head off to your next destination. However, if you want to add sunset to your one-day itinerary in Bryce, head back to whichever is your favorite viewpoint. We’d go for Bryce Point. VIEW FROM SUNSET POINT WHEN TO VISIT BRYCE NATIONAL PARK? The best time to visit is from May-June and September-October, when the temperatures are good for exploring and the trails are less busy. At 8,000 feet in altitude Bryce Canyon National Park is cooler than other National Parks in Utah, but it can still reach 80°F (26°C) in summer, and a mighty cold 14°F (-10°C) in winter. In summer the weather conditions are still good, but the summer holidays make the park a lot busier. In winter many of the park facilities are closed and the trails often covered in snow. QUEEN’S GARDEN WHERE TO STAY NEAR BRYCE CANYON There’s only one lodge in the park, but it’s easy (and cheaper) to stay just outside and drive in (the park is open 24 hours) to visit all the sights at Bryce Canyon. OUR PICK TROPIC BRYCE CANYON LOG CABINS Cute, well-decorated, good-value log cabins in the town of Tropic. An excellent place to spend the night between Bryce and Escalante. It’s a 15-minute drive from the visitors’ centre. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM BRYCE CANYON THE LODGE AT BRYCE CANYON The only lodging inside the park, this historic building is very atmospheric and just a short walk from the rim. It’s not cheap but is great for just pottering outside for sunrise and sunset. BOOK ONLINE WHERE NEXT AFTER BRYCE CANYON Bryce Canyon is one of the Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah. All can be explored on a wonderful 2-week US road trip that includes Las Vegas, Grand Canyon & Monument Valley. Here are our recommendations on how to see it all: [ad_2] Source link

SHERRI LOWE ( CARLSON YOUNG ) is looking for their (1/2) ROOMMATES. they should be 26-36ish and look like Willa Fitzgerald, Kaylee Bryant, Sean Teale, Tommy Martinez, UTP you DO NOT need to contact the player (@withbitterness) before applying.
TYPE OF CONNECTION: platonic
SUGGESTED FC: FC is UTP, but here's a list of some personal faves! Bex Taylor Klaus, Willa Fitzgerald, Maya Hawke, Caitlin Stasey, Raymond Ablack, Anya Chalotra, Henry Golding, Candice King, Dylan O’Brien, Sean Teale, Zion Moreno, Bianca Santos, Jenny Boyd, Paul Wesley, Priscilla Quintana, Blair Redford, Nathalie Kelley, Britt Robertson, Alex Saxon, Ricky Whittle, Samara Weaving, Harry Shum Jr., Lily James, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Alexxis Lemire, Victoria Justice, Camila Mendes, Aria Shahghasemi, etc.!
DESCRIPTION: These muses are Sherri’s roommates. Sherri lives in a 3-bedroom, 1 bath apartment in the Bronx, in the Park Place Suites. For the layout, I am very much stealing the layout to the New Girl apartment for this apartment, only with Schmidt’s room disappearing from it. Here’s an edit of what that would look like. Sherri lives in Room B (Jess’s Room) because even though it’s not the largest room, it has the best closet and lighting in her opinion.
Room A: Open!
Room C: Open!
Sherri has lived in this complex since June 2017 - whether these roommates have also lived with Sherri for this long, or are recent roommates who saw an ad online or smth and moved in after an old roommates moved out is UTP. I just imagine that out of the current tenants, Sherri has been there the longest. Any kind of personality or relationship type (gets along great, act like siblings, always at each other’s throats, constantly warring for bathroom space, the best of friends, etc.) is welcome for her roommates!
Here’s a bit about Sherri’s living tendencies: She is a perfectionist and a workaholic whenever she books a gig, so when she’s booked, her roommates are always aware. And when she’s auditioning, her roommates are also always aware. She sings and dances and practices lines all the time. She can cook. She’s health-conscious and works out regularly. She can be rude and blunt, as well as easily annoyed, but also surprisingly kind (if not nice). When it comes to her clutter, she is paradoxically clean in the kitchen but messy in the bathroom. She’s tactile with roommates she’s close to (if she considers you a friend she will lay on you while watching movies it’s just going to happen). She’s self-centered and talkative and will monopolize her roommate’s time if she has something she needs opinions on (will happen often). She’s a little shit and says she doesn’t like chaotic roommates while, in fact, BEING a chaotic roommate.

Seven Hundred Signs
The Seven Hundred Signs of the Unseen, Alice White, 2013
Alice White is quite the multi-talented individual. She's a solid game designer, and writes clearly, but her main skill is as an artist. Seven Hundred Signs puts her creative talents front and center.
The game's core conceit is that there is a hidden world layered beneath our own, "the Unseen", with magical conspiracies, invisible portals, impossible buildings, astral technologies, etc. People disappear from our world and end up trapped in an in-between state, from which they eventually escape. The way in which they escape - ripping, bargaining, squeezing, etc. - sets their character type. That's Session 0. After that the game revolves around various major factions and their quests for worldly power, often by acquiring magical power.
You've heard this setting's story before, but that doesn't make it bad. It just means that you can take bits and pieces from Unknown Armies, Delta Green, Over the Edge, Mage: The Awakening, Underground, Living Prism, Kingdom of Nothing, JAGS Wonderland, Night's Black Agents, ConX, Nahual, and more and they'll all fit in your game without too much extra work.
The mechanics are taken from Exacting Calibration, a 4000-word game in the same lineage as Snow & Silence. It uses a deck of playing cards that you write on and alter as the game goes on, a little like "legacy"-style board games. Your character might want there to be more 3s in the deck, for instance, because one of their powers triggers when a 3 comes up, so they might quest for the ability to add an extra diamond to the 2 of diamonds. Or you can place special sigils on cards, which lets you reduce ill effects or trigger critical successes and unseen power surges. It's a fairly slow progression, but by the end of the game the deck is pretty literally stacked in your favor. Balance is not necessarily great. The number of people playing also has a major effect on the odds of a particular card coming up. We'll eventually see those kinks get ironed out in Break of Night (2021), but for now it's still a bit wonky.
The game really shines in its layout and artwork. Full-color two-page spreads are common. Text is placed where it reads clearly, without trying to get too clever about it. On pages that are mostly text, there's still always at least one piece of art - things like a character walking past a streetlight in a bottom corner, or a monster creeping out of the seam in the center of the book.
Two intertwined stories run through the book's art: one of redemption, one of corruption. Different factions have their own subtle color themes. That makes for a really cool moment when the color of someone's wallet makes you realize that they've switched sides. The Unseen is painted in a hyperreal fashion that contrasts with the more typical painting style of the Common World (our world) in a way that makes it feel more real and more important.
There's a little bit of weirdness in the specific conspiracies - some of them are connected to real-world antisemitism and pseudoscience - but it seems like Alice was genuinely unaware of that at the time she wrote the game. Ten years ago I would not have possibly guessed that lizard people theories, of all things, are connected to antisemitism... but it turns out that if you dig deep enough in almost any conspiracy theory, someone starts spouting off about "Elders of Zion" and it alllll rolls downhill. Anyway, like I said, it doesn't seem to be intentional here, and the setting is modular enough that you can remove the problematic elements.
Seven Hundred Signs was expensive when it was first published, and it's only become more so since then. Your best bet may actually be the art book section of a used bookstore. Alice left the RPG scene for computer game visual design back in '15.

Introductory Post
Welcome all to the world of Temoracan!
Derived from the Spanish and Nahuatl words for "fear" and "place", Temoracan refers to a select number of characters and concepts that take inspiration from Mesoamerican Folklore; it primarily consists of exploratory drawings of the characters involved and their relationships with one another.
As of now, I simply sketch my characters on a whim; whether this becomes something more or not can only be determined by time and fate itself.
Until then, feel free to explore this blog of its characters and concepts based; should you have any inquiries on the world itself or my art in general, I'm happy to answer!
Note: this blog will be updated in due time as I figure out the layout and theme.

Oh, good, Zion was putting the dagger away now. In his... boot? Was that where people ordinarily stored their weapons? That was a slightly alarming thought, but Daniel quickly brushed it aside in favor of worrying if Zion was only putting their dagger away for his benefit. Had his anxiety been so obvious? The thought only made him more anxious, though he did manage to ignore that particular concern pretty quickly as Zion transitioned from explaining his new dagger to talking about how he was settling in. "That's good! That you've got the layout memorized, I mean - it's no fun getting lost. I'm sure you'll have everyone's names down soon enough as well," he encouraged - or, he hoped he was being encouraging. It was hard to tell for certain, sometimes. "Oh! Erm - yes, I was just on my way to the kitchen, if that wouldn't be out of your way?" He'd hate to derail Zion if he'd been on his way elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Zion noticed Daniel getting slightly anxious, and bent down tucking the dagger into the side of his boot. "Sorry about that, it's new so was inspecting the hilt to see if I needed to add anything to it for comfort and ease of use." He sort of quickly mumbled the last bit, though it was still very much able to be understood. Straightening himself out he nodded as he thought about the question that was provided. "I think I'm settling in alright, I'm pretty sure I have the layout of the ship under wraps in my memory, just like I said matching faces to names and all that is a small struggle for me. I'll probably take me about the time it took you if I'm being honest.." He side stepped slightly, "you seemed to be on your way somewhere, we could continue walking and chatting to where you were going if you'd like?" He offered, hoping he wasn't being too awkward.
