So I love Teresa Li so this was a definite watch for me. Teresa was super adorable and funny in this. I wasn’t into the ML but he grew on me though at times I was like omg come on man lol. This was such a slow burn, not because it took them a while to fall for each other because honestly that was quite fast, it was more that it took them forever to finally tell each other how they felt. The third wheel character wasn’t super annoying because he never had a chance. Qui Yuan’s cousin was such trouble and annoying for most of the show but his side relationship was fun to watch. In the end I thought this was a super cute romcom that’s definitely worth the watch especially if you are a Teresa Li fan 🥰🫶🥰

Kim: Like a wet, feral stray cat. Huge eyes and so, so pretty. Good at music and fighting but so socially awkward. Responded to "I love you" with "I'm hungry." Desperate for love and affection but believes he doesn't deserve it. Engaged in a relationship under false pretenses with a teenage fan (Chay) of his in order to gather information on Chay's brother who is a new bodyguard for his mafia family. Also does a lot of maiming and killing. Shatters poor Chay's heart (and his own) to pieces by breaking up with him and saying he never loved him. Realizes he does in fact love Chay and wants him back. Does he try to accomplish this by taking to Chay? No. He stalks him and kills people for him and publicly posts a song begging for Chay to come back. Definitive poor little meow meow.

Thanks so much for tagging me, @bbcphile, how fun! I ended up rereading some of my older fics for this. Onward!

In no particular order, let's start with Not Too Sentimental, which I wrote for Yuletide in 2014 (which is not, I regret to say, ten years ago! Je refuse!). I based this on the wonderful novel The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine, which is a Jazz age retelling of the 12 dancing princesses. It's gen and about the two oldest sisters, Jo and Lou, who have a love-hate relationship.

Next is the first DMBJ fic I wrote, Reach for their Scabbards, which is Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling/Liu Sang for my beloved @uschickens, who in the best tradition of fandom friends dragged me down into the pits with her. Wu Xie and Xiaoge take care of Liu Sang and then decide to keep him. There's a whole series.

Whatever Our Reckoning is also in DMBJ, a short little fic I wrote because we needed more Hei Xiazi/Xiao Hua/Huo Xiuxiu fic (we always need more but we needed it for a specific reason) and it's a twisty little thing. I like that there's nothing explained and everything explained in under 3k words. I have a sequel started, but I don't know that I will ever finish it.

I wrote With Water and a Star for an exchange and until recently it was the longest fic I wrote without coauthors. I got the assignment and I said to @uschickens, well, @merinnan really loves fake dating but how can you do fake dating with three people? And it turns out this is how. Another HeiHuaHuo fic, and what I loved is that I managed to pull it off, three points of view, a satisfying story, a happy ending. It even has a little post-story sex-tra.

(I feel like I'm pushing it with the extra links but also, this is a self-rec post and I do what I want).

The last one... ok, I'm going to take "5 favorite fics you've written" to mean finished fics. I love my wips, but in terms of finished fic, I'm going to go with No Rug to Sleep On or Fish to Eat. KinnPorsche fandom, Kim/Chay (why did I fall for the most adorable little pairing? because of all the delicious trauma? because they don't end up together at the end? how about both.gif). Kim gets turned into a kitten and events ensue. The tag "Kitten Thinks About Nothing But Murder All Day" is absolutely correct.

@dribs-and-drabbles' ask to @respectthepetty about gloves being used to represent the love that characters have reminded me in a way of this image that's been sitting in my mind since I first saw it.

While that post is about the use of red to represent celebration and love, mine is about the metaphorical spilling of blood in the name of the ones you love as shown by the costuming in this scene of To Sir, With Love, or Khun Chai.

As someone who almost never picks up on colours, this image of Tian stayed in my mind long after the show was over. There are so many things that contribute to why this costume and scene made such a lasting impression on me.

In this scene, the members of the Five Dragons Association, headed by Song, meet to pay their respects to the dead members of the association. Song makes use of the occasion to announce that Tian will be getting married to Mud and will also inherit the role of leader of the association from Song. As this is supposed to be a celebratory event, many in the scene, are wearing either red, pink or lighter colours. The irony that the choice of red clothing, which is supposed worn in this scene for the joyous occasion, seems to look like blood splattered on Tian's shirt.

Being the successor of Song's position, it makes sense that both Song and Tian are wearing shirts with the same motif of embroidered dragons. The image of the white dragons is clear, against the dark blue of Song's shirt. However, Tian's shirt sports a dragon in red against the darker shade of red, causing the dragon to look almost blood-like, rather than being a clear image. Although Tian does not spill any actual blood, the sacrifices that chooses to make during this scene are represented by the red on his shirt.

Tian's love for his mother results in him making numerous sacrifices for her. He agrees to the engagement with Mud, despite knowing that he loves Jiu, because his family, especially his mother, wants him to be the successor of the association. Aware that his mother has been murdering people in his name, Tian also purposely sets himself us to be seen burying the evidence so that he will be caught and exposed by Chan, whom he knows will not hide her discovery from their family. Tired of carrying his secret, which he knows is the reason that his mother has been killing people, he also chooses to out himself and the relationship that he has with Jiu. His last sacrifice for his mother is choosing to turn himself into the police for her crimes, as he blames himself for being the reason that his mother has felt the need to commit murder in her attempt to prevent the secret of him being gay from being revealed, which would result in him being removed as heir and possibly even disowned by his father.

By choosing to take his secret that he has buried deep within him and making it known to his entire family, Tian understands that he is going down a path of no return. While it would stop his mother from killing for him, he would also be condemned by his father. Having witnessed his father's strong reaction to Zhang being gay, the love that Tian had been receiving from his father may have felt as thought it were dependent on the condition that Tian were not gay. Tian may have tried to be the perfect son to be worthy of that love, but knowing that he was not able to meet that sole requirement would have been a pain and fear that would have kept growing within him.

The secrets, lies, guilt and pain that Tian chooses to carry and take responsibility for become a visual metaphor through the red on his shirt, which is meant to evoke joy and happiness, but is instead representative of the immense pain that Tian chooses put himself to go through for the rest of his family. The irony of this scene is that red is worn to represent celebration of Tian's parents' wishes for him: inheritance of the position as heir and marriage, while Tian is condeming himself to a tragic fate that he has not wanted nor asked for and his pain is visualised as the red across his shirt.

currently watching: 一念关山 a journey to love (yngs), but i'm kinda only half watching it rn bc i zone out whenever a scene does not involve li tongguang or yu shisan. unsolicited opinion and i'm in the minority here but the main cp has largely bored me since ep 12 bc i'm not a fan of how the show is writing their relationship development now even tho i liked their initial dynamic. ANYWAY i am also thinking abt rewatching some episodes of story of kunning palace since there is a canto dub out now hahaha

Summary:

The Jade Emperor's younger sister, Yao Ji (played by Liu Tao), had a private life with mortal scholar Yang Tianyou (played by Li Guangjie), and she gave birth to three children. Knowing all this, the furious Jade Emperor (Wang Weiguo decoration) killed Yang Tianyou, and pressed Yao Ji under Taoshan under a mountain forever. Fortunately, Nezha arrived in time and rescued Yao Ji's children Yang Jian (Jiao Enjun) and Yang Chan (Zhou Yang) from the Jade Emperor's butcher knife. After growing up, Yang Jian became the apprentice of Daoist Taiyi and acquired an amazing ability. Yang Jian wanted to save his mother, but he didn't expect that the Jade Emperor sent ten suns to burn Yao Ji to death.
