It’s the standard historical drama with all the bits and whistles they usually have. Revenge, check, murdering asshat relatives in a high position (most likely like a emperor) check, second male lead pining over main female lead and you definitely know how it will turn out within seconds, check, despite all the clichés and tropes this is a hilarious cdrama. The main leads have excellent chemistry together despite not as much romance as I can imagine others were rooting for in this and the pacing does get tilted a little in the middle. I still would definitely recommend watching at least once it’s really a fun historical romance drama.

Spent three days binging "Special Lady" (what a lame title) with Xiao Yan and Zhai Zi Lu. It was ridiculously long at 36 episodes. I almost gave up after 5 episodes because they wrote the main character so badly, but am really glad I stuck it out past episode 10 because it got much much better.

The middle 15 episodes are super cute and fun. The two leads showed excellent comedic chemistry and decent acting. All of their bickering and growing closer scenes were addicting, which is why I ended up binging it. The way they spoke without words was SO CUTE. I was quite sad when they decided to throw in a "plot" and get serious. They should have tried harder to keep the charm of the middle while resolving the plot that no one really cared about.

I decided to watch because I remember Xiao Yan being very good in The Legends but I was also impressed by Zhai Zi Lu. He was quite good. I wonder why these two don't get more decent roles considering their acting is better than many. I hope to see them in more later.

I can only give it a 7/10 because of the terrible beginning and quite boring ending. Nevertheless, recommended.
