I'm trying so hard to get a grasp on the theme of consumption/cannibalism in the broken earth but I haven't changed my mind's oil in a sec and my brain's about to seize up
#when lerna asks why hoa doesnt eat essun and hoa asks why lerna doesnt eat essun...#and the answer is the same for them both (they love her)#and it's different because it has to be but it's the same because love doesnt rely on humanity#and besides. the whole story is about who gets to be perceived as human and when and by whom#says kenna#mirrors whatever's going on with nassun and shaffa and jija#how not their nature but the upbringing of both men tells them to kill nassun. but they love her. they can't. they won't.#i need to lie down#i decided to try to wrap up children of virtue and vengeance since im halfway done before i read broken esrth book 3 but#goddamn this book pisses me off it's SO BAD#zelie and inan are so blatantly zutara i have to shake my head every few pages to stop picturing them as zutara#hate#book 1 was so fucking good man what happened
