⚡️🔌 First post reanimating…

Piece I did when I was on the other website. I’m less of a fan artist nowadays. I want to be as great as the people I’m drawing, too much of a good thing (appreciation) leads to a bad thing (no sense of self). But one thing about an artist is they always want eyes on them. If you like fall out boy, my chem, Zelda, zombie movies— I’m all of that rolled up into one. I don’t need to be those things to show that I love them. You’re gonna like me, if you have eyes. Whether I make fanart for you or not. I will make my own way, I will infect everyone. Welcome to my blog

things we made for the pizza tower rpg
-
Noisette Cafe
there was going to be the Noisette Cafe acting as a shop where you could buy extras, such as music tracks.
Reanimated Sprites
sprites were getting reanimated to have a more "pizza tower" feel.
Early Game Pizzahead Fight
pizzahead was going to have a "unwinnable" fight, where he would throw away and separate the party at the end.
Forkington & Fencer
two new characters that were set to appear were Forkington, a timid young and clumsy Forknight who wields a spoon (they ran out of forks) and Fencer, his mistreating mentor, who vows revenge on peppino. Forkington's bandana design ended up the one used.
Anton
anton was part of the game as a secret sidequest. he would have been a party member for the duration of the sidequest, having a Partner Attack with peppino called "Destruction Zone".
this is also where i made siqequest portraits, to differ them from the main game's story.
Chapter Title Cards
title cards were also here to act as chapter intros.
RPGsonas
an equivalent to pizzasonas, RPGsonas acted the same. they would give you a rare item upon interaction. most of them were simply my friends
Massacre Mode
massacre mode was an unlockable extra gamemode. you would play as only pizza horror/massacre peppino, changing up the gameplay to an action-rpg more akin to zelda.
New logo
self explanatory.
Misc.
mr stick, who would have acted as a shopkeeper with overpriced items.
vigilante, a party member. he was supposed to have his own chapter.
peppino clone, a mini boss.
unique overworld abilites: peppino could pick up and throw objects and gustavo could jump.
peppino & gustavo battle animations.
again, i'm very sorry.

“It’s all Hylia’s fault, why doesn’t she talk to Zelda??? She only talks to Link thats bad” STFU STFU STFU
SHE LITERALLY DOESNT HAVE THE POWER OF A GODDESS ANYMORE????
She loses most/all of her power when reincarnating for the first time. She probably CAN’T talk to Zelda, much less awaken her power. The most she can do in botw/totk is 1. give Link health/stamina, which is something previous Links can do separately of her, and 2. give small quests and provide tips, which is little more than speaking. She can’t even give him rewards without an outside source of energy, she’s so weak.
Link DIES and is reanimated. Idk about you, but to me that sounds like something that would bring you closer to a (dead-ish) goddess. Hell, Zelda can talk to him through his mind! Maybe Hylia’s just riding that train since Zelda is (at least tangentially) her reincarnation. Hylia just doesn’t have the power or the physical form to talk to anyone other than Link.
Maybe the Hylia you speak to is just the ghost of sksw Zelda. Maybe she has no more power than your typical ghost. Maybe you should STOP FUCKING BLAMING HER for not having any power after nearly DYING trying to defend the world from a threat even bigger than Calamity Ganon. She played her role, she did her best, and now she should be at rest. The only reason she talks to Link is because she cared about sksw Link and wants to help his reincarnations the best she can. She never wanted this to happen, but she can’t break the curse of a dying god. The only thing she can do is defend her people with what little power she has left in her brittle, crumbling form.
Hylia’s statues are small and hunched over because at her heart, she is small and old and weak. She lived the life as a mortal and was never meant to return to divinity. Now she sits in her gilded cage and watches as people she can’t help plead with her, and she cries as the mortals she cares for die and bleed in a war that isn’t for them. She offers what little she has left, and fuels the champion with her frail spirit. And you laugh at her. You yell at her for not giving enough and you go and speak poisoned words to your friends about how she isn’t trying. She weeps and gives all that she has, but it’s never enough for you, is it? Take your cowardly ways elsewhere. We want you not.
(Also, “Hylia swoops in and saves the day and Link doesn’t have to lift a finger” doesn’t exactly make for a compelling game, does it? You forget that the story is in service of the game, not the other way around. We’re trying to give Link reasons to run around and chop at grass. Hylia is a story device to get Link health and stamina. It’s not that deep)
(I recognize that saying “it’s not that deep” after typing a whole essay is a bit hypocritical, but I never claimed to be the paragon of morality)

4) LISA FRANKENSTEIN

there's a very limited amount of people for whom this movie is great, but if you're one of them, hoooly shit
she's serving death becomes her, she's serving heathers, she's serving "nobody but kathryn newton or winona ryder could play this lead," she's brilliant, she's gorgeous, she's perfect
lisa frankenstein is a fucking love letter to being a weird goth girl in the 80s. it's about a weird goth girl, in the 80s, who winds up the subject of affection of a reanimated dude as they go about killing people to make her life easier and his body better
it's the kind of movie they don't make any more. zelda williams stepped up to make an absolutely iconic piece of throwback cinema and boy howdy did she succeed. this is for sure no question going to be on my list of Comfort Rewatch Movies. it's outstanding
and i totally get that this is probably not a movie for everyone, but it is for me, so anyone who doesn't like it is objectively wrong
1. late night with the devil | 2. history of the occult | 3. destroy all neighbors

An End of Burning Flame - A WIP Intro
Zara Engelvar was never expected to do anything great with her life. She's just an intern scribe, new enough that her placement recording the history around the Firestorm is a surprise to even herself. Not that there's anything new to record about the greatest calamity to ever face the three kingdoms, which has been recorded in such detail she's beginning to think her assignment is a subtle way to drive her out of the college entirely. So imagine her surprise when her digging uncovers a body entombed in secrecy, who wakes and introduces himself as Cillain Veras, the greatest knight to have ever been recorded in the books of history. Only, Cillian is nothing like what the history books have said him to be, and his reanimation defies every law of reincarnation Zara has ever believed in. The Firestorm has begun to expand once more, and the gods have demanded a new set of champions to save the kingdoms before they've all been scorched beyond recognition. Zara isn't sure she's prepared for this responsibility - or even wants it to begin with - and Cillian is obviously hiding something from her. But a historian traveling with history's greatest knight? It's a wealth of information Zara isn't going to pass up on, no matter what it demands of her.
Genre: adult high fantasy POV: multi pov 3rd person limited Status: plotting Inspirations: genshin impact, legend of zelda, greek myths, one very specific song that's i've had on loop for weeks

My finished scene for the CDI Zelda Reanimated project! Specifically this is from Wand of Gamelon. Watch the full reanimated collab here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvxE6IUCPxU Really had fun with Impa the most in this animation. She came out bouncy and cartoony. There's a small visual gag in this based on original scene (look out for it haha)

2024 Horror Challenge: [1/?]
↳“They say time heals all wounds, but time is the wound.” Lisa Frankenstein (2024) dir. Zelda Williams
Plot: A coming-of-rage love story about a teenager and her crush, who happens to be a corpse. After a set of horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a journey to find love, happiness - and a few missing body parts.
Starring: Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest & Carla Gugino
Goodness, another horror challenge has officially begun (technically this wasn't my first horror watch of the year, I have a few others I need to make a review for) but it figures this would be the one that convinces me to make the first post for this year's challenge (my 8TH YEAR doing it!) I was excited about it when I first heard it was going to be a thing. It looked like it was gonna be super fun as a concept. Not that it's completely original (reanimating life has been done more than plenty. Case in point - I literally watched Poor Things before this. lmao) but knowing that the script was coming from the zany mind of Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) I knew to go into this expecting the tone to be at least slightly off. And well, ofc it was. lol I don't know if it ended up being an instant classic as I thought it would be but I honestly don't really care because overall, I did really enjoy it. Kathryn Newton really impressed me once again like she did in Freaky, really owning that scream queen title. I loved her so much. And her chemistry with Cole was rather solid imo, despite his role mostly being silent. I thought Liza Soberano was a definite scene stealer as her step-sister Taffy as well. And ofc I gotta mention the wonderful Carla Gugino who is always good because her character was quite memorable, despite not being in it very long. I'm a sucker for a comedy horror so I'm not surprised I ended up liking it even though I've seen some mixed reactions (tho more good) It probably could have been better but I will say, even the movies from the 80's that you can tell inspired this one even had their flaws so let's not pretend they were perfect. I think this lived up enough to my expectations that I'm gonna say it now, I can see this one making it on the end-of-the-year faves list. Maybe it won't be for everyone but I think it was pretty good, for whatever that's worth. lol

It's been over 6 years since Dynasty Warriors 9 came out, and 6 years since we've had a new main series entry. We're not getting another main series entry at least as of yet, we're getting Dynasty Warriors Origins, which was revealed in Sony's 2024 State of Play show, which has been remarked to have been an utterly mediocre event (much like this entire generation of tRIpLe A video games). The first trailer is here:
youtube
So, what do I think of all this? My overall sentiment can be summed up as follows:
Fuck man, I dunno.
Dynasty Warriors means a lot to me. It means so, so much to me. It's shaped a lot of aspects of my life, my taste in video games, music, characters, and costume design, my academic interests and aspirations, etc. I learned Chinese in college and studied abroad in Beijing largely because Dynasty Warriors stoked that interest in me from a young age. So yeah, I *really* love this series. I *really* am not sure what my life would look like if it hadn't been part of it. And I *really* hate what's become of it.
I want to be excited. I want to be optimistic. But at the same time, I don't, because man, does getting your hopes up only to have them dashed hurt. Nothing last forever, and after the sorry affair that was Dynasty Warriors 9 (the strongest defense I've heard for it was 'it's wasn't as bad as people say' it wasn't AS bad. Yeesh), it's made me wonder if there's really much of anywhere left for the series to go that's interesting.
The formula itself, the 1 vs 1,000 gameplay, has long been ported to other IPs such as Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Berserk, and a lot of them have been great (holy shit I love the original Hyrule Warriors). This proves that the gameplay concept can continue to evolve and be engaging. But Dynasty Warriors as a narrative device for that concept has been pretty played out, and it's not like this is a new observation, anyone who's played more than one or two Warriors games would probably be able to tell you the same thing.
Given the differing gameplay with the whole nameless hero bit and the title it's probably more like (another) spin-off than a main sequel, and that may very well be because the devs don't have much of anywhere else to go with the main series, which may be for the best. I'd rather let something go quietly into the night than watch as it shambles on like a reanimated corpse, although I'd rather it ended on a better note than Dynasty Warriors 9. Something that particularly bothers me is the wording of some of the ad blurbs, like on Koei-Tecmo's official twitter account announcing the game: 'In addition, for the first time in a Dynasty Warriors title, the storyline will be told through the eyes of a “nameless hero.” Play through the historical tale of war as chaos erupts throughout the Three Kingdoms, showcasing the vast lands of China and its most ruthless generals like never before!’
That's *technically* true, but in a very legalese way. This isn't the first time the Warriors series has had an original character with no historical or cultural background being 'the main character' of the game. Dynasty Warriors 4 and most of the Empires games have the option for you to create a player character and play through the game with them, and Samurai Warriors Chronicles is the same deal, albeit that's even more like the premise of Dynasty Warriors Origins because you play as an OC going through the late Sengoku Era. And man, the evolution of the character creation over the years has been pretty amazing. It makes me wonder if this 'nameless hero' is going to be customizable other than changing their weapon (which was showcased in the trailer). I'm going to be really honest, unless that character ends up being extremely compelling and well-written, I'm going to be very put off if we can't customize them, or if there's only a small degree of customization. In Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 I can make a player character who’s a woman that’s taller than virtually every male character, isn’t stick thin, can wield any other character’s weapon or her own unique weapon, and I can put her in cool armor that isn’t pointlessly sexualized, and I can give her different voices who all give the character different personalities in their lines and delivery, and I give her the overconfident, ruthless voice actress. If you take that degree of customizability away from me after having given it to me on a handheld system from the previous generation, I will lose a ton of interest, Dynasty Warriors Origins.
Another thing that maybe isn't quite as major but still gets me is the announcement tweet on Koei-Tecmo's official twitter account that goes 'Fueled by exhilarating 1 vs. 1,000 action and the rush of massive armies, DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS delivers an unrivaled sense of realism to the battlefield'. Realism. In Dynasty Warriors. A game series where you play as characters with superhuman abilities and are at a peak physical condition that most people could never hope to achieve. Realism? You think I want realism? You think *anyone* plays this series for realism? One of the best parts of Dynasty Warriors is how flashy and campy it is, and how unabashed it is about that (or how it used to be, anyway). Dynasty Warriors has never, ever been about realism and feels more like chasing trends, since realism has been a buzzword in the video game community for years now (albeit it's quieted down within the past few years, thankfully).
Still, this is just a very basic first trailer. Could it be great? Yeah, I'd love for it to be. But do I think it will be? Most of what little evidence we've been given so far makes me lean towards 'no'. That doesn't mean I necessarily think it'll be terrible, but I also don't really think it will be great.
As much of a cynical, joyless bastard as I can be, I don't get anything out of saying all this. I usually love being right, but not about this. Man would I *love* to be wrong about this. I really, really would. Also, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade or try to convince them that they shouldn't be excited or should expect the worst case scenario, I'm just throwing my opinion out there. Maybe once we see more my expectations will take a turn for the better.
So I guess I'll end this with the sentiment I began with: Fuck man, I dunno.

Greetings, adventurers, I am Whisper - welcome back to the library!
March is Women's History Month! It just didn't seem right to let this month come and go without talking a little about it. We recently passed International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th. I didn't even realize, but all of my posts this month have been about books and novellas by women!
When I started this blog, I wanted to talk about books, games, and movies. So far, I've only written about books and little about writing. Even over on my YouTube channel. So today, I wanted to take a look at a few movies.
Women and movies have a long history. The first movie considered to be both written and directed by a woman was "La Fée aux Choux" (The Cabbage Fairy) by Alice Guy-Blaché in 1896. It's argued to be the first narrative filmmade! So, for decades, women have done more than just be pretty faces in movies. Today, I wanted to take a look at some more modern-day films that were written and directed by women - I'm sure you've seen a couple of them!
Jennifer's Body (2009)

Jennifer's Body is a cult classic, and one of my personal favorites! It's a 2009 horror/comedy starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. On the off chance you don't know Jennifer's Body or what it's about --
"When a demon takes possession of her, high-school hottie Jennifer (Megan Fox) turns a hungry eye on guys who never stood a chance with her before. While evil Jennifer satisfies her appetite for human flesh with the school's male population, her nerdy friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), learns what's happening and vows to put an end to the carnage."
I love this movie.
The film was written by Diablo Cody, who you might know from her debut film, Juno. She writes punchy dialogue that has a certain style to it you just won't find in other films. It definitely makes her stick out.
Karyn Kusama was the director for this film. Her directorial debut was a movie called Girlfight in 2000, which was a sports drama. I've never heard of it, but it must have done well! She won Best Director and the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for it, and was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Kusama also directed Æon Flux, which I have seen, and is currently the executive producer on Yellowjackets.
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

If you're looking for more Diablo Cody movies, then look for further! Lisa Frankenstein released early last year (2024). It's a romantic horror comedy starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse! This is one my husband and I went to the theaters to see, and it was so good! It still has that punchy Diablo Cody style, and such a fun story!
In Lisa Frankenstein -- "A misunderstood teenager and a reanimated Victorian corpse embark on a murderous journey together to find love, happiness, and a few missing body parts."
The film was directed by Zelda Williams, the daughter of Robin Williams. She voiced Kuvira in The Legend of Korra. She wrote and directed a short film called Shrimp, about the lives of dominatrices in a Los Angeles BDSM den. However, Lisa Frankenstein was her feature-length debut!
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

Love Lies Bleeding is another movie that came out last year in 2024! It was directed by Rose Glass, who co-wrote the film with Weronika Tofilska. It's an LGBTQ+ romantic thriller starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January of last year, followed by its theatrical release by A24 in March.
This was another movie my husband and I really enjoyed watching. In it -- "Lou is a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder who's heading to Las Vegas to pursue her dream. Their love soon leads to violence as they get pulled deep into the web of Lou's criminal family." It definitely took some twists and turns we were not expecting.
Loves Lies Bleeding is Rose Glass's second feature-length film. She made her debut with a short film called, Room 55, in 2014. Then made her feature length debut a 2019 psychological horror film, Saint Maud. It was nominated for two awards at the 74th British Academy Film Awards. Later in 2020, she was named Best Debut Director at the British Independent Film Awards.
There isn't much on Weronika Tofilska's career. She's mostly directed TV episodes, including four episodes of Baby Reindeer, and has written and directed a short film called, Love Life. However, she is best known for Love Lies Bleeding.
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

Bodies Bodies Bodies is one of those movies that took me by surprise. It's a dark comedy horror, which features a cast of friends played by Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson. It debuted at South by Southwest in March 2022. Then was theatrically released by A24 in August 2022.
In the movie -- "When a group of 20-somethings gets stuck at a remote mansion during a hurricane, a party game gone very, very wrong ends with a dead body on the ground and fake friends at every turn as they try to find the killer among them."
The director, Halina Reijn, is a Dutch writer, actress, and director. She has acted in many Dutch films and TV shows. But she only has direct in credits on four projects, one of which is a short.
The writer, Sarah DeLappe, is a playwright. But there isn't a lot in her portfolio. Her play, The Wolves, premiered Off-Broadway in 2016. It received the American Playwriting Foundation's Relentless Award in 2015 and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It doesn't seem she has any other movie credits.
Fresh (2022)

I love this movie, and I'm not really sure why. Fresh is one of those movies that I thought about after I watched it. Something about it stuck with me and I thought about it every day for two weeks. It stars Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones. In the film -- "The horrors of modern dating are seen through the eyes of a young woman who is battling to survive her new boyfriend's unusual appetites."
The movie premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022 and was released in March 2022. It's directed by Mimi Cave as her directorial debut. The writer, Lauryn Kahn, has writer credits on a movie, Ibiza. Along with additional crew credits on The Other Guys and Step Brothers.
There are so many amazing movies out there that were written and directed by women. These are just a couple of my favorites. A few to add to your watchlist this month!
Thanks for reading, I hope you stop by the library again soon!

TOTK had a whole ancient reanimated corpse of a dead ruler and a clan who was all about that jerky god and did jack shit with it.
At least give me a horror aspect with his corpse jumpin me if I stay in the darkness of the depths too long somethin or dragging me somewhere (and soft locking me lmao) Them Hands were great and stressful but I really hoped they’d lean more into the unsettling aspect of a deadman walking instead of putting him in a fucking crockpot for the entirety of the game
Have him stalk the halls of Hyrule castle like a restless spectre instead of that weak ass fake Zelda shit like I’m fine with him puppeteering Zelda’s visage but shit got old quick. I wanna see that dead old bastard. Have the yiga be affected by gloom in a drastically different way than others (how? I don’t know but if there’s a clan that basically worships Ganon like he’s god then of course they’d pull some fuck shit with his goop to varying degrees of success or just peep the horror)
I also kinda wish we had a segment where we try to escape the depths at the beginning (at the same time the game not revealing it in its entirety by keeping it isolated to like a mini labyrinthian cave where we run from malice hands or tendrils or whatever Old Man™️ be shittin out or running from Ganondorf himself until we reach a point where we’re saved by that gay old goat man idk
#rambling about a game that’s been out for a year already and wish it did so much more with its premise#this game makes me physically ill and killed my grandma#ganondorf#totk yiga#totk critical#can’t even be that mad at him stewing in the pressure cooker#he cooked w forbidden cookout tomes tho bc why’d he come out juicy as hell???#ik if I shook him that meat would fall off the bone

LISA FRANKENSTEIN (2024): Perplexingly tepid retro pastiche of HEATHERS and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, about a teenage outcast (Kathryn Newton) who befriends a reanimated 19th century corpse (Cole Sprouse), leading to murder and mayhem as they try to get him the spare parts he needs to be a Real Boy.
The premise promises grisly fun, but Diablo Cody's hopelessly muddled script undersells the central romance, takes a weirdly ambivalent attitude toward its own violence (which fails as both horror and revenge fantasy), and awkwardly nerfs both the gore and the obviously necrophiliac overtones in pursuit of a misguided PG-13 rating (which I'm astonished it actually received, given the content).
It's clear that Cody and director Zelda Williams are big fans of the older cult classics the film endlessly quotes and paraphrases, but it's equally clear that they've failed to grasp what works (and doesn't) about those movies, much less how to combine their various homages into a coherent original story; LISA FRANKENSTEIN has no real satiric direction of its own and is only intermittently funny. (Also, despite the title, the film, which is set in 1989, includes no vintage Lisa Frank designs, the filmmakers having apparently blown their entire licensing budget on REO Speedwagon and Echo and the Bunnymen songs.)
This could have been a slam-dunk for people who grew up loving the movies it references, but you'd be better off just (re)watching HEATHERS instead.
