i just got out of an early screening of the minecraft movie! (a minecraft movie), and i come to reveal, the mad oracle that i have become:
it will gross two billion dollars. you’re in a bubble if you think otherwise. this is NOT a 1/10, it’s a 3/10 that the average brainrotted american child will perceive as the funniest movie in the world and that’s all it needed to be to make two billion dollars. they play guns n roses and ac/dc. the white lotus lady shows up and plays the white lotus lady and has a minecraft dui. this will narrowly scrape a 50 to 60 critic score on rotten tomatoes. they will compare it to the lego movie (every review will mention the lego movie). “THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT AND PARENTS MAY JUST CRACK A FEW SMILES THEMSELVES!” the villains want to destroy creativity and there’s a line where the main villain says “we are only in this for the money and to destroy creativity” and every reviewer that miraculously doesn’t compare this to the lego movie will quote this line at the end and smugly cross their arms and mutter wow they sure are telling on themselves and the ones that don’t do that will say that it’s too woke.
i don’t have a critical take on a minecraft movie, i don’t have a real analytical thesis or an essay or an unfunny shitty single sentence pseudo-tweet letterboxd review i have a vision like the opening of a final destination movie. but i’m not going to yell at you to get off the coaster. i’m not going to get off myself. we go when we go. better this than the tanning bed.
he sings again. he sung as bowser and he sung as claptrap and he sings as steve. they’ll put him in fnaf 2 and he’ll sing as balloon boy and he’ll sing as tingle in zelda and he’ll sing as kraid and andrew ryan and big the cat.
nacho libre is a fake wes anderson film about class struggle and the glorification of god (and is better than every film wes anderson has ever made) and jack black sings in that movie and i laughed so hard at that as a kid that i pissed myself. not a dribble, i pissed my pants and sat there in the theater and didn’t say anything because i didn’t want to get taken out of the theater early because i was afraid i wouldn’t get to see the rest. i also pissed myself watching the minecraft movie this morning as an adult but it was a protest piss. the theater employees will taste the difference and i hope that my message works its way up the chain, in whatever way it can, and maybe someday jack black will be in a good movie again.

The final chapter of Midnight Puppetry is finally up and out there, I've earned that lovely green check-mark, and it's all got me feeling unbearably bittersweet. But also extremely proud of all the work that's gone into this in the past year, writing and editing in stolen pockets of time, in lunch hours and airplane tray tables, like a fever dream.
If you like a complex relationship and think the Zonai are sus, this might be for you. Mind those tags, though.
Midnight Puppetry (93477 words) by hatenohouse Chapters: 16/16 Fandom: The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Rating: Explicit Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Ganondorf/Zelda (Legend of Zelda) Characters: Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Link (Legend of Zelda), Impostor Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom), Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda), Demise (Legend of Zelda), Rauru (Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom), Sonia (Legend of Zelda) Additional Tags: Puppet zelda - Freeform, POV Zelda (Legend of Zelda), POV Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda), zelgan, ganzel, Masturbation, Sexual Fantasy, Cunnilingus, Vaginal Sex, Vaginal Fingering, Multiple Orgasms, Dubious Consent, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Enemies to Lovers, Link in flashbacks, Gerudo Culture (Legend of Zelda), Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda)-centric, Ganondorf Redemption (Legend of Zelda), Eventually Good Ganondorf, Blackmail, Evil Rauru, Evil Sonia, Evil Zonai, Gerudo King Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda), Gerudo Town, Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, Zonai Culture (Legend of Zelda), Zelda from Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (Legend of Zelda), Porn With Plot, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Non-Consensual Touching, Non-Consensual Kissing, Emotional Manipulation, Emotional Roller Coaster, Heavy Angst, Mentions of Death, Brief/implied suicidal ideation Summary: In Rauru and Sonia’s ancient Hyrule, the Gerudo King Ganondorf and the mysterious visiting Lady Zelda finally have a formal introduction, which makes a distinct impression on the misplaced Princess, and sends her imagination running wild. After discovering Ganondorf’s puppet-led infiltration of the palace, Zelda realizes she may have the leverage she needs to shape a much better future than the one she was stolen from. She embarks on an odyssey to form an unlikely alliance with the Gerudo King, leading to a reckoning with the Zonai's true design for Hyrule--including their ultimate plan for the future Princess herself.

thanks for the tag @yxtkiwiyxt, i can never resist a classic myspace about me bulletin survey throwback bc i yearn for the days of agonizing over finding the perfect profile song

It’s really cool thinking about it like. Roller coaster tycoon and the sims 1 came out in 1999 and 2000 respectively. Half life came out in 1998 and was of the most graphically advanced of the era. The legend of zelda majora’a mask came out in 2000 as well and only 3 years later we’d have shit like mario sunshine. Handheld games still looked like pokemon gold. This era had such a wild diversity of different graphical looks to them depending on the hardware that people were making games on, it’s kind of bizarre.

*quietly sneaks back in here*
*once again, the passage of time is a strange concept*
*leaves a large jug of orange juice, along with allergy friendly cakes and snacks*
*carefully places down a tiny, handmade Wars plushie on a soft pillow. a piece of ass plate mail is placed nearby*
*a note is also left. it reads: 'i hope life is improving for you. life is a roller coaster on fire sometimes, but rest assured that it does get better eventually. enjoy your day.'*
*scurries away back into the void*
WEARY TRAVELER!! YOU’RE BACK!!!
*has some orange juice and snacks*
*spends a good ten minutes crying laughing over the ass plate*
*leaves behind a switch with as many zelda games on it as their can be, a very plush blanket, a plushie goose, and a variety of drinks including teas, hot chocolate, water, and juices*
*places near the switch a little note that reads: ‘I hope you are well, dear friend, and that life hasn’t been too hard. In case no one has told you recently, you are wonderful and you are loved. Make sure to get some water and food, and plenty of rest. Take care of yourself*
*grabs plushie Wars and gives him a very good squeeze*
Farewell, weary traveler!! Until next time my friend :)

From last night's stream-
I don't think RPGs have anything to do with stats.
Tumblr media
I think an RPG, or whether or not a game counts as one, is more about how you can affect it's world or environment beyond just winning or losing.
Like, Skyrim and space Skyrim, for example, are not RPGs. They are a very shoddily made, medieval & sci-fi themed amusement parks.
But neither are any Final Fantasy games, Legend of Zelda games, Shadow of Mordor, the Assassin's Creed series, Genshin Impact, God of War (any of them, even the new ones), Kingdom Hearts (any of them), Diablo, Transistor, or any Pokemon games. These are lovingly crafted roller coasters with various themes, with different additional genres of games therein, unlike most Bethesda games, but not roleplaying games. They're gripping movies, comics, art exhibits, and dioramas with well done and utilitarian world-building.
Or visual novels. And that's not me disparaging these games, just hopefully pushing our evolving language for discussing games in a better direction?
I guess the next question is probably- "What is an RPG by your call then?"
I'd say games like the original Deus Ex, Stardew Valley, Fallout 1&2, Undertale, Pathologic, literally every single Animal Crossing game, Pathfinder/DnD (if your DM has a stable sleep schedule), and Shadow the Hedgehog.
The difference between these two groups is:
group A: Interactive media (games) that are stories, or Games(under the cut), with worlds that only exist to tell their stories or for the player's convenience.
group B: Interactive media that is a world the player is encouraged to interact with as a consistent Character within, or where the player's avatar & actions exists as a character within the world and not just an artifice of design or play.
There is nothing you can do on Final Fantasy VII's Gaea that will impact any part of the rest of the world, besides succeed at a given challenge or die and have another go. Nor in X, IX, or VIII. Locking a world's keyhole in Kingdom Hearts 1 doesn't change the game's state it's the next part of the story and the success state that follows defeating most level's final bosses (or after figuring out a clever puzzle in Traverse Town). Riku can't fail to save Sora at the end of Kingdom Hearts II, you fail to rescue Riku's man, and the game lets you try again until you catch up with canon. Transistor does not care whether you collect certain programs/citizens, the Process [REDACTED] no matter what. Zelda can't not be rescued in any of the series' games where she appears; there are no ways to save the land of Termina except by assisting its citizens in a very specific order. In Pokemon, Team Rocket cannot successfully kidnapp someone's Pokemon on screen, and Team Aqua cannot successfully flood the world.
But in Shadow the Hedgehog; the president can be spared and his life determines how the rest of the game's story plays out; you can steadily work to destroy the world with the Black Arms and feel the progress of the invasion as you complete more of their missions. In Pathologic, failing to cure a patient doesn't send you to a game over screen, the patient just dies. Sometimes your patient is important to you and their death will have disastrous consequences, sometimes not. In ACNH, everything you can do changes the game's state in a meaningful way, there are almost literally no meaningless actions you can take in that game (or any animal crossing game). In a solid Pathfinder/DnD game, unless your party fights and dies to the last man, failing to kill the Lich or Evil king means that they get to take over that town or city. Some tables don't even run TPKs back, that specific world just gets worse and you either abandon it to its fate or have to make new avatars to re-enter a world that's likely grown more hostile because of the failure. In the original Fallouts, the only real "game over" fail state in those games is dying. Everything else is simply a choice to make, or a consequence to avoid. Likewise in the original Deus Ex, JC Denton's actions decide whether the [REDACTED it's old but go play the game] play out as planned, whether [seriously go play it] live or if the [please, you won't regret it] get their way. Each potential reality in these games, doesn't meaning you just lose, but that you now have to account for new circumstances in the world of your own making.
I don't think a game doesn't become an RPG because it has stats, or levels. Those are just conventions of the media of games as a whole. A game is more or less of an RPG based on how internally consistent and independent of the player its world is. I think our language should reflect that that too, but considering that this genre of game comes from the original pen and paper RPGs, I don't like giving the most faithful successors to their heritage a name that doesn't include the words RPG in it. I'd rather call the first group of games "Immersive Movies" and give the term "RPG" back to the second group. But if we must call both groups kinds of RPGs, I want to suggest replacing WRPG vs JRPG, with RPGs vs "VRPGs" or Virtual Ride Playing Games (or Vibe Role Playing Games), seeing as the first group is more akin to a book/movie/play/amusement park ride that you read or ride through than they are games where you meaningfully play the role of a character.
If that makes sense? Replies/rb as are welcome as comments, I had the thought on stream and I've spent all day working to make it more coherent than the babbling that usually rattles around in my brain, but I couldn't make it any shorter than this. So idk, let me know what you think. I'm eager to hear from other devs, or just players for that matter.
Also, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, this isn't me shitting on any game I've mentioned except for Skyrim and space Skyrim. I'm not using RPG as a title of prestige, or saying any of these games are worse than the others except for Skyrim; I'm only saying we should probably re categorize them. Roller coasters are good things when they're well made.

/I need you to tell me about a ride that everyone must go and a ride you think that's like.. "So it's an acquired taste." to the general audiences (zelda theme park)
The ride I would recommend for everyone is Into the Depths, located at the far left end of the Dark World. It's slow-paced, so no height requirement, and intensely atmospheric, but not actively scary like the Shadow Temple--the (trackless) ride vehicle cruises around a huge show building for a tour of the eerie landscape under Hyrule, with its bizarre plant and animal life. Something like Tokyo Disneyland's Journey to the Center of the Earth ride, but more open and without the brief roller-coaster finale.
A ride...well, not actually a ride, but an attraction I would probably consider an acquired taste is Koroks in Concert, a small animatronic theater show in the Lost Woods. Koroks are cute and all, but not everyone will want to listen to several dozen of them sing and play music for 12-15 minutes in a row.

26 Days until Tears of the Kingdom Release. I believe today is Orthodox Easter so happy Easter to those who celebrate. Also I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and that we can continue the hype for TOTK for the next 26 days.
Spoilers under the cut because I'm still not done with the trailer.
Tumblr media
Pokemon Sword and Shield? Nah. Zelda Sword and Shield. I already love fuse so much. Sticking a royal claymore and royal shield together and then using that to parry an attack is insane.
Tumblr media
At first I thought this thing was a Goron but upon a closer look it's got a symbol on it. I'm guessing this ball that moves so fast and leaves flames in it's wake is some sort of game/challenge that the Goron's cooked up. Probably minigame related, like the Challenge at Gut Check Rock or that one challenge where Link has to stand the heat.
Tumblr media
The trampoline thing is so sick and seeing the other flying boats makes me think of how fun it would be to travel by bouncing from one to the other. Also Tulin is more grown up in this shot, proving that a few years have passed between BOTW and TOTK (at least Link and Zelda got some time to themselves before everything went to hell.) It's also my belief that just cause Link is flying with Teba and not Tulin does not mean something bad happened to Teba. I think Teba took over as Chief of the Rito so he's a bit too busy to pull stunts with Link.
Tumblr media
Glowy hand. Also this sequence was so satisfying, even more so than a parry or a bomb. Octoroks always hit you at the most inconvenient of times so it's nice to uno reverse their attacks back at them. Also I wonder if reversing time on one object slows/stops time for everything around it as well but leaves Link free to move. I think that's how it works and if so then I'm looking forward to seeing how it can be used in combat against groups.
Tumblr media
This looks like a neat side quest but also at the same time it reminds me of the escort mission in Twilight Princess. Hopefully this one is far nicer to me then than the TP quest.
Tumblr media
Looks like Link really fused a rocket to his shield. Also he's on Eventide island with all his stuff so we probably won't see a repeat of that shrine quest, at least not on this island. I keep thinking about how funny it would have been for Majora's Mask Link to travel to the moon via rocket in order to fight Majora. Link technically already has experience with space travel of a sort so guess it's not surprising they finally gave him a rocket.
Tumblr media
Speaking of space travel, MOON JUMPS. Yup, these steps absolutely have to deal with funky gravity and I'm sticking to that point (too many reactors keep saying time.) These steps also look like they lead to a giant platform, a perfect place for a boss fight, and with the weird goo in the background I'm guessing the boss fight is with the black and purple ink like alligator we see later in the trailer. If we are getting dungeons again, I wonder if this is part of one of the sky dungeons.
Tumblr media
Nintendo saw that we loved mine carts in BOTW and decided to use them more. Thank you Nintendo. While I think this race with a construct is hilarious, I'm even more excited by the glimpse at an underground area and once with some sick lava falls. Also this reminds me of a roller coaster at an amusement park where there are duel tracks. Maybe they should make one of these in Super Nintendo land.
Tumblr media
The amount of reactors I've seen start laughing once the trailer gets here is numerous. This mech battle, some may say the slowest and shittiest mech battle in history, truly showcases Aonuma's comment about how much room TOTK leaves for the player's imagination. I can't wait to craft my own shitty jousting robot and then see people on youtube make them cooler than I could ever dream. Also the new outfit that Link is wearing reminds me of a Roman Centurion.
Tumblr media
This shot has an even cooler looking outfit. The horns and earrings are absolutely a reference to the unknown character already shown in the trailer. In general, I really like the look of this one and can't wait to acquire it. Then there is the ruby arrow. I hope that it doesn't do the same thing as fire chu chu jelly because I want Nintendo to give us a reason to use an expensive ruby for something other than outfit upgrades and rupees. Huh I wonder if some outfits are going to boost the effects of fusing materials to weapons/arrows. That would be interesting to see. Maybe an outfit boosts the magical effects of gems/minerals and in that case you would want to use rubies instead of chu chu jelly.
Tumblr media
Speaking of fire chu chu jelly, I'm pretty sure that bokoblin is carrying some in a pack on his back. I assuming that some of the enemies will be throwing elemental jelly at us. Also what is that contraption Link and how did you get it up there? I wonder if he just levitated it into the camp using ultra hand and if he did then that bodes well for long range combat. Also pretty funny to drop a giant laser machine from the sky into the middle of a boko camp.
Tumblr media
Giant ice leviathan and 100% a boss fight. I've heard some interesting arguments about this thing being related to the Great Hebra skeleton but part of me hopes not. It'd be tragic if Ganon corrupted a creature like Levias the flying whale from Skyward Sword. Levias was nice. Still, I can't wait to fight this thing. Also Link is wearing a new outfit with some very bright blue stuff (that Tulin also seems to have on him) that I'm assuming works like extreme antifreeze. However, I think the headpiece reminds me of the Statue of Liberty so I will not be able to take this outfit seriously.
Ok, thank you for reading today's piece of trailer analysis. Probably only two-ish more days to go before I finish the trailer in its entirety.
