When you were obsessed with Mermaids and K3 as a little kid this movie that is coming out feels like a fever dream yet here we are 😭✨ I’m so curious about this movie and to study all the mermaid scenes thoroughly for even more artworks even if this artwork costed me my art program’s limits ✏️🧜🏼‍♀️

1996 Oslo - Number 24 - Lisa del Bo - "Liefde Is Een Kaartspel"

Lisa is back! My 1993 winner finally actually won the Belgian national final to make it onto the Eurovision stage. Justice!

For a reason I have not yet discovered, the Belgian national final was call De gouden zeemeermin (The Golden Mermaid) for one year only in 1996. It had grown in size to have four heats with 10 acts in each, going through to a final with 12 acts. Looking at the semi-finals, and the variety if vast. From folk to pop to experimental choral works. There was even an extremely popular boyband who seem to have generated audible girlish screams and boos in equal measure.

Anyone could have won, but Lisa Del Bo did despite being the opening act. Liefde Is Een Kaartspel (Love is a Card Game) is similar to the Dutch act, an up-tempo pop-bop-schlager about love and its machinations starting with a line of nanananas. It's exceedingly Melodifestivalesque. Lisa stands alone up front in a white dress with an excessive number of white hearts stuck around her hips that look a little droopy.

Despite the couture, Lisa is a very safe pair of hands to put this song in. She belts it out with full gusto putting not a semitone out of place nor a note unsung. Belgium missed out on 1995 - the year of ballads and by choosing Lisa, they show their intention to buck that trend. This was good enough for 12th place in the qualifying round before dipping a little when on stage to finish the Eurovision final in 16th place. I blame the dress.

I'm just happy that she made it to be forever entered in the Eurovision hall of history - even if the song itself was not up to Vlinder. It's still an absolutely top-class schlager entry.

Vandaag hebben Hanne, Marthe en Julia het langverwachte nieuwe album K3 en Het Lied van de Zeemeermin officieel gepresenteerd. Dit album, vernoemd naar de gelijknamige film, bevat acht gloednieuwe nummers die centraal staan in het nieuwe filmavontuur van K3. Daarnaast staan er op de cd ook nog nummers van K3 uit het populaire Vlaamse tv-programma “Liefde voor Muziek”. Het album neemt luisteraars…

In the show H2O: Just Add Water, Cleo's transformation in the bath has some folkloric origins.

Cleo's transformation in a bathtub is actually an older motif in folklore.

Melusine, the well-known French water-maid with a fish-, serpent-, or twin-tail who was cursed to transform each Saturday into her true form instead of her human one, would hide from her lover Raymondin when she would be about to transform. She would transform in her bath only, hidden away from anyone. Melusine had told Raymondin that she would be together with him only on the condition that he must not look after her when she would be in her bath. In northern Spain, Asturias, a version of the legend tells of an enchanted freshwater-maiden called xana who is said to transform into a full serpent instead. More versions exist too, obviously.

The zeemeermin van Edam of Dutch folklore was once caught by humans when the dikes broke in the city of Edam and was forced to comply with society, being taught numerous things the humans did like wearing clothing and spinning. The zeemeermin would have her tail in the water and was described to have it in a tub of water underneath her chair, specifically made for her.

She seemed to have legs ashore as depicted in some illustrations, but I'm not sure if she could transform.
