18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end.

“Care to dance?” Harry asked, holding out a hand.

“This isn’t really a dancing song, Harold.” 

“I wasn’t asking you. Zayn?” Louis watched amused as his two best mates danced together, slow dancing despite the upbeat music. He watched the pair spin around the room, their moves progressing from graceful to clumsy, the two in stitches once the song ended. Once the song had finished, and they had dramatically bowed for the other bar patrons, Harry rejoined Liam at the bar as Zayn retook his place next to Louis, Niall joining the pair soon after for a heated football debate. He had become so invested in their discussion that it took him a moment to realise that Harry and Liam had joined them, Lewis on their heels, phone in hand. The panicked glances that Liam kept sending in Louis’ direction and the angry ones Harry sent in Niall’s sent a wave of worry through him as Lewis passed the phone over to Niall, his face dropping almost immediately.

“Everything alright, lads?” he asked, shifting his weight so he was no longer leaning against the wall.

“I think Niall has something he wants to say to you, Louis.” Liam prompted, causing a strangled noise to come from Niall. 

“I’m sure it can’t be that bad mate,” Louis reassured him, gently patting him on the back. He heard a scoff from his roommate and sent him a confused look.

“Show him,” Harry muttered, raking his hands through his once styled hair. Lewis passed the phone over to Louis, a tweet displaying on the screen.

This passage for my first chapter was rewritten multiple times due to the scene changing as I wrote the ending of the chapter. At first, I had the reveal straight after they entered the pub and then I realised that it was too short and didn't show the friendships well enough. Then, when I'd designed the layout of the pub a bit better, I realised that I could have them do activities before the tweet was revealed. I also really liked the idea of Harry brushing Louis off to dance with Zayn.
