#zato and millia is a no because of their relationship in canon

I saw someone do a Guilty Gear shipping tierlist and thought I would put myself into the ring.

I'm gonna share some Guilty Gear LGBTQ+ "headcanons" that are most likely canon. Most of these go off of the idea that Elphelt's Magnum Wedding Instakill (MW) doesn't override sexuality.

Despite my claims of these being most likely canon, most things here are not directly confirmed by Daisuke Ishiwatari, ArcSystem Works, or any other individuals involved with the making of these characters or the Guilty Gear franchise and the following should still be taken as headcanon as these are my readings of certain things I've found in the games. You have been advised.

May - Bisexual, possibly confused lesbian - She does, in fact, fall in love with Elphelt here, but has a thing for Johnny, possibly. The thing with Johnny is that she might not actually have a crush on him. From my own experiences, it's possible that May could be overly obsessed with Johnny, and may be misunderstanding her obsession and hyper fixation on him as a romantic interest in him. This idea also makes the whole Johnny and May thing less creepy as Johnny is her dad, and, I believe is supported by one of MW lines being "C-Could this be romance?! Oh my gosh!" implying that how she feels for Elphelt during Magnum Wedding is different from how she feels for Johnny, possibly even completely redefining romance for her, which is pretty huge for someone who's been seemingly romantically attracted to someone for years.

Millia - Bisexual, possible preference for women - She 100% had romantic and sexual feelings for Zato, which he manipulated prior to his death. Because of the sexual manipulation from Zato, it seems that she is not keen on being involved with a man again in any way. However, in MW, she falls in love with Elphelt, even going as far as to say "Have I chosen the yuri route..?" This doesn't really explain the "preference to women" part of this idea, but another quote of Millia's is "This is a whole new world...!" which, at least to me, shows that she experiences romance with a woman in a much more positive way than with a man.

Elphelt - Pansexual - When MW is used against herself, Elphelt says "I-I'll just take anyone...?" So like, yeah. Also she fell in love with herself, that's pretty gay.

Baiken - Bisexual - I'm pretty sure that she and Anji are confirmed to be a thing? I could 100% be wrong on that. However, when Baiken gets hit with MW, she falls in love with Elphelt. Despite that, she seems very reluctant, which could be shown as rejection (which I'll get to because it DOES happen), but I interpret this instead as denial of her feelings. This is further emphasized by her character, being a cold, lone wolf type of person. This can be seen in her platonic relationships as well, in which, only really accepting the company of Anji (possibly not platonic) and Delilah with Delilah being her latest friendship. The idea of her being in denial is in the line, "Won't work. Try to fall for someone el...?!" which, in my interpretation, means that she doesn't believe she's good enough, but is cut off by the sheer amount of love she's feeling from MW.

Jam - Bisexual - She wants to hire "cute boys" (boys she's attracted to) like Ky Kiske to work at her diner. In both Jam's Story ending 1 and Bridget's story ending 1 of Accent Core Plus, Jam actually hires Bridget to work at the diner. While Bridget identified as male then, she now identifies as female, though, that might not mean much. What means much more is her MW line, "Cute girl maybe ok, too." which implies that "cute girls" (GIRLS she's attracted to) would be hired as well.

Jack-O' - Bisexual - Is Aria, wife of Sol Badguy. They're also together in the ending of Strive. Reason that she's bisexual is because she refers to her and Elphelt as a couple in her MW line "Birth of a new-age couple?!" so that's pretty cut and dry.

Kum - Lesbian - When hit with MW, she falls in love with Elphelt as shown by the line, "Romance filter severely damaged!" meaning that, well, romance. Duh. I say lesbian specifically because, to my knowledge, she doesn't show attraction to any men, really just Elphelt, if anything were to come out where she shows attraction to a man or if I missed something that does the same, then I'd say she's bisexual. But for now, she's lesbian.

Venom - Gay - Now for the part that proves that MW doesn't override sexuality and that all of the above characters are attracted to women. Venom is canonically gay, this isn't a headcanon, this is just outright confirmed. However, it's important to note that Venom resists the romantic nature of MW as shown by his lines, "My loyalty cannot be broken!" "You cannot tempt me!" and last, but not least, "Lord ZATOOOO!" The fact that Venom, who in canon is exclusively attracted to men, does not fall in love with Elphelt in MW, means that the above characters DO fall in love with Elphelt and ARE attracted to women.

Bedman - Aroace - Completely rejects the concept of being in love ("Damn witch! You cannot take my heart from me!" "Are you trying to corrupt me?) when hit with MW, and, in one line, exclaims, "You cannot replace Delilah!" which is just comparing the effects of MW to his only other relationship, which is platonic, which is with his sister, which makes me feel like it's not at all romantic or sexual to him in any way.

Ramlethal - Aroace - At first, I thought she could be lesbian, but one of my friends who knows a lot more about GG lore and Ramlethal in specific than me argued that she's Aroace, citing one of her taunts in Strive that implies she has no concept of romance and that it's kinda gross to her. He also said that her saying "Is this my true self?" is about her experiencing human emotions, which she doesn't believe she can do (at least during Xrd's story mode). He, however, did say that as her concept and expression of human emotions develops, things could change, and she may end up developing romantic feelings, but that is not definite. As of right now, Ramlethal is aroace, at least in my books.

Testament - Nonbinary with attraction to men - I don't know if Testament has any attraction to women, but I read their intro lines in Strive with Johnny as them being a thing, as Johnny offers to go out to eat after their fight in one line. Testament is confirmed to be nonbinary though.

Johnny - Bi or Pansexual, though could still be straight? - This one veers much more into headcanon territory, but it's possible that Johnny could be bisexual or pansexual as he may in a situationship with Testament, as I mentioned just above. Testament does, however, present more femme than masc, and does use feminine pronouns alongside gender neutral and masculine pronouns, so it's possible that Johnny simply counts Testament as a woman and is still straight.

Bridget - Sapphic transgender woman - Bridget is a trans woman in canon, however, it's not confirmed if she is attracted to men, women, neither, or both. However, Daisuke once made some very interesting art where May is gripping Bridget's butt pretty strong (which is really just more evidence for May being sapphic), but Bridget doesn't seem troubled by it or anything soooo. Also, of the 2 characters that have special lines when defeated by Bridget in Strive, May gets 2 lines while Bridget herself only gets 1, no one else has a special line at this time.

I-no - Pansexual - Pretty sure she'll top anyone, even people who claim to be tops. This is basically just a headcanon, but apparently she teases both men and women when defeating them, soooo.

BONUS!!

These characters are, in my opinion, heterosexual despite this being contested in some smaller aspects of the community.

Sin - When hit with MW, one of Sin's lines is, "Farewell... virginity..." so yeah, he's straight. Idk, could be bi, but I see no evidence for that. Most people say he's aroace because he's so young, childish, and dumb, but Dizzy fell for Ky around the same age soooo...

Dizzy - When hit with MW, it feels like she's rejecting Elphelt, much like Venom and Bedman, saying "I'm married!" "I'm sorry, I can't!" "I-I have a son..." much less like a denial of feelings similar to that of Baiken. I don't think her sexuality is contested as much as Sin's is, but I still feel like this is worth mentioning.

As we all know, the Guilty Gear Series is wildly popular with the LGBT Community, which is why we at Arc System Works have decided to compile a few of the Guilty Gear Characters canon sexualities!

Sol (Literally Freddy Mercury, Bi.)

Ky (Married to a woman but had that incredibly gay scene with Sol in Revelator and a lot of homoerotic official art, Bi.)

May (Has a crush on Johnny but shows interest in Elphelt during Magnum Wedding, which is incapable of overwrititing sexuality, so Bi.)

Millia ( Her favorite thing is Not Fucking, so likely asexual. Was in a relationship with Zato and shows attraction to Elphelt during Magnum Wedding, so Biromantic.)

Johnny (Loves women and is very vocal about it. While some of his past may lead Gearsters to believe he is straight, like his embarassment when finding out Bridget was a guy, this is because he realized he hit on a minor, not because Bridget is male. He has a very ambigious relationship with Testament. While they have come out as Nonbinary since, said relationship existed beforehand: Likely Bi. )

Axl (He misses Megumi his girlfriend, but is also fuckbuddies with Sol, so Bi.)

Zato (Was in a relationship with millia before dying, but after being revived by the conclave, they took away his horny priviledges, so he is Asexual now. Eddie fucks and cannot be stopped.)

Chipp (has not shown attraction to any women outside of Magnum Wedding, has had some gay moments with Anji and Answer but isn’t aware of either. Bi and a dumbass.)

Testament (Not interested in anyone except for maybe Johnny, likely asexual or gay. Also Nonbinary, which, while not a sexuality, is still worth mentioning here.)

Kliff (Hasn’t gotten in up in 40 years and is too busy being dead to even consider getting with anyone. Has shown a lack of interest in women. Likely asexual.)

Dr. Baldhead/Faust (Fucks, Bi.)

Potemkin (Has never shown attraction to anyone, is immune to Magnum Wedding, Asexual.)

Justice (Doesn’t have a gender and is too angry about humanity to be attracted to anything. Asexual.)

Jam Kuradoberi (Attracted to both Ky and Elphelt, Bi.)

Venom (Venom. Gay.)

Anji Mito (Has an ambigious relationship with Baiken, has flirted directly with Chipp and told him to wear less clothes, Bi or Gay.)

Dizzy (Married to Ky, immume to Magnum wedding, thought her justification boils down to the fact that she is married and has a child, ambigious as of now.)

Robo-Ky (Very horny for women, but also opened up a bakery with Venom, so Bi.)

Bridget (Doesn’t care about these things yet, focused on playing minecraft.)

Zappa (Wants to get with women, but also had a very gay time in finland, leading him to realize that he is Bi.)

Slayer (Dandyism is inherently not straight, Bi.)

I-No (Violently Bisexual. Swings both ways, with a guitar.)

Asuka R. Kreutz (Catboy.)

Raven (Horny on main, regardless of gender. Bi.)

Sin Kiske (Doesn’t know what sex is. Sol never bothered to explain it to him.)

Elphelt (Bi but nobody wants her)

Leo Whitefang (Hasn’t shown attraction to anyone but is affected by Elphelt’s Magnum Wedding. declared himself “a dandy” when talking to Slayer. Has fucked your mom and complained about his guards being more attracted to Ky than him, A Lion is an animal of pride. Ambigious.)

Jack-O’ (Affected by Magnum Wedding and is in a relationship with Sol, Bi.)

Ramlethal (Is confused by the concept of love as of now. Immune to Magnum Wedding. Is based on Aria and the other two Valentines are bisexual, ambigious as of now.)

Baiken (Much too angry to be attracted to anyone. Lost her gender in the war. Affected by Magnum Wedding. Nonbinary and attracted to women.)

Answer (Chipp and him are a yaoi couple, so Gay.)

Kum Haehyun (Hangs out with Johnny without him ever even trying to flirt with her, forced to live as a man due to societal expectations which is why she has her mecha. Her greatest fear according to Theater of Pain is living as a man. likely a Trans Lesbian.)

Bedman (Immune to Magnum Wedding. Has never shown attraction to anyone. likely Asexual.)

Giovanna (Has shown herself to be attracted to Leo and no one else so far. Ambigious as of now.)

Nagoriyuki (A follower of dandyism, Not Straight.)

Happy Chaos (Fucked Daryl in that swivel chair. Violently Bisexual)

Daryl Darylian (See Happy Chaos.)

Goldlewis (Has never shown attraction to women. Has remarked that he could “Never say no to those eyes...” when talking about another man. Likely Gay, ambigious as of now.)

So you have done a summary of the canon character endings for XX and how those endings lead into accent core plus. I was wondering if you can do the same for the accent core plus endings and how they lead into the future games if you haven't already done so.

Kliff Undersn_____: His story in AC+R is a flashback to just prior to the final confrontation with Justice, but he would later encounter his son Testament a few years later in 2180 before his death.

Axl Low _____ : His time-slipping caused him to run in to Slayer and Panonika in New Delhi at one point, and this event eventually gave Axl a "hint" about his powers being somehow linked to his subconsciousness.  But not long after he would end up being "trapped" in the year 2192 post-apocalyptic Babylon and would run in to Bedman only to be rescued by I-No.

Jam Kuradoberi _____ : While at first she went back in to the Bounty Hunting business alongside Bridget, she found it was much more lucrative to run her own Foodcart, though she did get to rebuild a smaller version of her restaurant, it got destroyed YET AGAIN (the cause was never explained).  In frustration, she took a break for a while, only to run in to Jack-O' by sheer coincidence.

Zappa _____ : Zappa was unable to find a medical solution to his supernatural problems, but his run-in with Crow Kuruwaba gave him an opportunity to apply for working with the Government and begin his investigations in to supernatural activity.  As a result, he created something he would later call the "Zappa Scale" and has been using it to "avoid" Information Flare events ever since.

Chipp Zanuff _____ : After settling things up with Slayer, he promised to finish the training that his Master Tsuyoshi had passed on to him, but at some point around 2183 he ran in to the girl Erica Bartholomew who coincidently was the "elected" President of the United States.  She was being attacked by Assassins, but Chipp intervened.  After that whole problem was resolved, Chipp decided to travel to South Africa, where he ran in to Answer who picked a fight with him.

Answer lost that fight, but as a result gained a friend in Chipp and the two would go on to build their own country: Eastern Chipp Kingdom.

Dizzy _____ : After having a serious conversation about her future with Testament, Dizzy decided to finally move in with Ky now that he had secured a job as Police Commissioner of the International Police... of course, not long after this, things happened, and Ky ended up becoming the High King of Illyria due to the Conclave's involvement.  Dizzy, meanwhile, had to go in to hiding, despite her relationship with Ky (along with her son, Sin).

Anji Mito _____ : He was responsible for sealing I-No away as a favor to "That Man", but because of Baiken's feelings on the subject, he decided working with That Man wasn't such a good idea.  Instead, he decided to head back to the Japanese Colony and oversee things there while keeping an eye on Baiken in the process, as her "bodyguard".

He wouldn't been seen for a while after this, but he was in contact with Baiken when she was involved with the later Colony incidents.

Slayer _____ : Taking Anji's advice, he decided NOT to retire just yet, but he did decide to take a break from being active.  He settled in Illyria in secret, and had several men working under him act as his eyes and ears so he could observe the Conclave and Pope from a distance.  Later, Bedman killed one of his subordinates, and it was also around that time he decided to look in to Zato's resurrection.

He was also responsible for passing on that information to Faust, despite their connection being tenuous, he felt Faust deserved closure.

A.B.A. _____ : She was last seen 'temporarily' working for the P.W.A.B., but has since gone missing.  Where she and Flament Nagel went is still unknown.  Most likely though, she is still trying to find a way to give him a humanoid body, despite his desire to remain a weapon.  She is also looking for her creator, the real Paracelsus.

Johnny _____ : After things calmed down with Dizzy, May, and Testament, Johnny continued to further his underworld connections and expand the Jellyfish as an organization.  He would later have to put his plans on hold for May's sake, since she began developing a periodic headache (symptoms of Ki Overflow syndrome).

Millia Rage _____ : After witnessing Eddie's "death" she was forced to run away from the P.W.A.B. Robo-Ky units, but she continued to pursue the ones who stole Zato's corpse (as a favor to Venom) and tracked down their whereabouts to nearby Harden Fortress (VastEdge events).  Due to the situation, she was forced to arm herself with guns and deal with heavily armed bounty hunters, but she was able to relay her findings to Venom and confirm what the Conclave had done with Zato's body.

She would later have to play a ruse and meet up with Venom under false pretenses, but this was all overshadowed by Zato=ONE's revival from death.

Robo-Ky _____ : Funding and support for mass production ceased, and so the only Robo-Ky to remain ended up running away from his makers and settling in a small town within Illyria's borders.  He ended up doing small jobs for self-maintenance, and while he wasn't well-respected, he was at least content with living among humans.

May _____ : She learned a bit more about her past connection with the Japanese people from Ky, but was still unconvinced.  She was upset with Johnny for avoiding the issues around them (he was actually trying to resolve a lot more than she knew).  But after the incident with Dizzy was cleared up, things finally settled down for a time... though May would later develop symtoms from an as-yet not known disease connected with her past.

Eddie/Zato=ONE _____ : His corpse was taken by the P.W.A.B. and used as part of the Conclave's experiments involving Revival magic developed from Dr. Faust's research.  The end result was that Zato's body had been dead and in preservation for nearly 6 years, but once he was revived, his soul became a blank slate, save for the last memories he had of Millia.

Testament _____ : Despite his objections, Dizzy left the forest for good, and so Testament was left to his own devices.  While he hated humans, he understood Dizzy's determination to change his point of view by setting out on her own.  His encounter with the "then dying" Eddie reminded him of the distant past, and his connection to his father Kliff.  Despite everything, he decided to stay in contact with Johnny as a precaution for future events, while keeping an eye on the P.W.A.B.'s movements from a distance.

Baiken _____ : Baiken decided to let Anji be her "protector", even if it didn't mean much to her exactly... but Anji's ominous warning that "That Man" was "too strong for her to deal with", left a bad taste in her mouth.  For the time being, she would lay low among the colonies and out of sight from the police, investigating any possible place the Gearmaker might have been... though she wouldn't have much luck until a certain incident started in Miyabi, the largest Japanese colony.

After that incident, she would encounter the enigmatic Ninja, Answer.

Venom _____ : Having settled his affairs with Millia Rage, he decided to act like a proper Leader of the Assassins.  So proper in fact, his subordinates gained a lot of respect for him, and his brutal methods continued on for nearly 6 years.  After having picked a fight with the current P.W.A.B., he felt he needed more political influence... his next goal would be to take over the United States Government!

(Venom's activities would later be thwarted by Chipp and Gabriel in the Butterfly and Her Gale novel!)

After having lost his chance to control an entire nation, Venom was stuck with doing small-time work under the P.W.A.B. for a time... that is, until Millia supplied him with some unsettling news: Zato was alive!

Bridget _____ : While he did work under Jam's restaurant for a time... his uncle came by to tell him some unsettling news... his twin Brother had left the family home and had gone missing.  Bridget set out to go after his brother, but has been missing ever since.

Faust _____ : Faust wasn't able to get as much information out of the P.W.A.B. as he had hoped, and so he ended up going back in to hiding for a time... though, a certain "incident" in May of 2184 had him run in to a then-pregnant Dizzy who was now IN LABOR!  It was short notice, but Faust was able to help deliver the baby safely!  (Faust wouldn't know it, but that child would later be known as Sin Kiske!)

Faust also went on to save the life of Erica Bartholomew when she was attacked by assassins and wounded by one of them.

Sometime later, he was contacted by Johnny concerning May's sickness, and also given some new information regarding the whereabouts of Zato=ONE, said to be a key witness to events in his past!

Potemkin _____ : After the P.W.A.B.'s underground activities were silenced, Potemkin returned back home to Zepp.  Sometime later, the Assassins tried to incite a war between America and Zepp, and it was Potemkin's job (as per usual) to protect the President at all costs... though he did end up getting in to a fight with Chipp Zanuff under a misunderstanding.

Rather, Chipp had gotten stronger than their last encounter, and so Gabriel decided to challenge Chipp directly, only to defeat the ninja on his own...  Potemkin was not surprised at all by these results, but was still concerned for his nation's wellfare.

After Erica resolved the incident and the Assassins were dealt with, Chipp left to resume his training.

And while Zepp was still monitoring things around the world, it would be a while yet before they got directly involved with another incident.

As time passed however, Potemkin recieved unsettling reports of two strange entities: Ramlethal Valentine, and a mysterious being known as Bedman.

I-No _____ : Her story was put to an end as "That Man" utilized Anji Mito's talents to seal up I-No for the time being... and while I-No was upset concerning this, she had no time to ponder it.  That is, until she was unsealed once more by "That Man" sometime later, and given a NEW mission.

This mission would be to secretly Assassinate the Valentine known as Ramlethal, and also investigate any potential changes in the timeline.

She would not be very successful for a while (even having to fight Sol once again)... that is, until a certain Axl Low fell in to her "net".

Justice _____ : While her final memories took place in AC+R (just prior to her death in 2180), half of her memories were transferred in to a new body... this body was given a new name: Jack-O'Valentine.

Jack-O' was forced to lay low and keep hidden for nearly 8 years after the death of Justice... and it would be some time yet before Jack-O' would accept her 'past self'.

Ky Kiske _____ : Ky settled up his rivalry with Sol, but later decided having Dizzy under his protection was the best for both their goals.  And while he wasn’t given much leeway, his reputation would later put him under the eye of the Conclave.

Sol Badguy _____ : After things calmed down with Dizzy, and I-No was no longer an issue (due to Anji’s meddling), Sol settled up with Ky, drawing an end to a chapter in their rivalry (fall of 2181).

After this, Sol continued his work as a bounty hunter for a while... though, around the end of the year 2184 (just four years since they last spoke), Dizzy contacted Sol with some vague information regarding Ky being depressed and in a bind.

Not sure what was going on, Sol travelled back to Europe where Ky and Dizzy were staying, only to discover that Dizzy now had a son!

But more shocking than that, was Ky’s disheveled state.... he was much slimmer than he’d ever been, and a shell of his former self.

Sol couldn’t bear to see Ky depressed such as he was... and the only solution he could think of, was to knock some sense back in to Ky with his fists!

After some fighting, and knocking Ky down repeatedly, Ky revealed his problems to Sol... he asked Sol to adopt the boy Sin, and keep him under his care!

Sol wasn’t exactly prepared for this... but knowing what kind of person Ky was, and the burdens he was under, finally made sense...

It was then, that Sol decided to take Sin in as an ersatz, “son”, and raise him better than Ky ever could as a father.

Or, at least that was the plan... Sin grew up much faster than Sol expected, and his personality was very different from Ky’s as well... not to mention the “Gear” powers growing inside him...

Still, they would continue as Bounty Hunters for the time being... until they were attacked by Valentine’s Servants: The Vizuel, only to be rescued by a certain Fox named Izuna!

Is Millia's canon last name actually Rage lol

It’s a reference to the bands “Rage” and “Meliah Rage” respectively.

From a “technical standpoint” Millia’s mother died while protecting Millia from a Gear attack.  This tragic event took place in Russia, though it’s never officially stated where Millia’s village was originally located.

(In other words, we do not know if “Rage” is her real last name or not!)

As an orphan, Millia had no place to go, and it would’ve been difficult for a little girl at her age to traverse the expanse of wasteland battlefields that the Gears had been leaving in their wake.

While the details are vague, Zato (he was not leader at this time, but he was low in rank and standing) and upper members of the Assassins came upon her by happenstance.

I cannot say for certain if Zato still had his eyesight or not at this time, but what we do know is that Zato chose to be a test subject for the Postwar Administration Bureau, and shortly thereafter gaining his powers, he rose quickly through the ranks of the Assassins.

Whether it was before or after Zato gained his power, regardless, he chose Millia to fight by his side, forcing her to take in Angra against her will.

And while she had regrets, Zato insisted on being the one to train her.

For a time, she thought of him as an older sibling, but those feelings were changed when Zato tried to push their relationship in other directions.

Millia became obsessed with the notion of death and of dying for a time (i.e. she was suicidal) because she was made to kill people against her will.

It wasn’t until the Night of Knives incident, when Millia finally stood up for her own identity, that the name “Rage” actually applied to her feelings at that time.

Zato had abandoned and betrayed her, but instead of merely holding a grudge, Millia chose to betray him back and from then onwards began making choices on how best to “live”, rather than how to die.

Perhaps it was because Slayer had secretly gotten himself involved with Millia’s life, but after that time, Millia learned how to live for herself, even if she still carried hatred and “Rage” for Zato at that time.

Of course, much has changed since then, and now their roles have reversed.

Now Millia is the leader and Zato her subordinate.... but perhaps now her Rage can finally subside.

Do you ship anyone in guilty gear? Aside from ky and dizzy of course. Just curious!

If I “ship” anything, it’s strictly what’s canon and only from a neutral indifferent perspective.  That is to say, I probably don’t ship anyone or care to.

In other words, unless it’s story related, it’s not really pertinent to the lore itself.

For example, Zato=ONE’s relationship with Millia Rage is very tumultuous and complex, and is worth studying to understand how their personalities clash against one another, but beyond that I don’t make any assumptions of what directions their relationship will go.

People have made plenty of crazy assumptions and Headcanons about characters over the years... and to be honest I just got fed up with it, so I only stick with what’s actually THERE in the story.

Still, I will discuss relationships that DO exist, like friendships, rivalries, and other nuances that are present.

Probably the most complex relationship in this series is that of Frederick and Aria, because of everything that happened and what “will” happen... but there’s still a bunch of mystery to everything too, so I won’t assume anything.

Annon-Guy: I know this ending in X2 is Non-Canon, but in the ending where Millia defeats I-No (after the latter kills Eddie), how come she burries and makes peace with Zato, despite the fact he hurt her? Also, if Millia hates cutting her hair, how come she leaves a portion of it with Zato's blindfold?

It’s better to think of it like this:  they were fishing for an impossible ending here and this was the result.

Millia struggled most of her life not just to get rid of Zato, but to understand his motives for doing what he did to her.

I’m sure much of that hasn’t gone away at all because of recent events… but Zato has no expectations of forgiveness, only to do better going forwards.

Also, keep in mind the events of GGXPlus… Zato killed himself trying to SAVE Millia from Eddie… that was a heavy blow to Millia’s motivation against him.

Millia’s relationship with Eddie is a tad different from her relationship with Zato himself.  Eddie mocked all of what Zato was in the past, even laying all his sins to bear before Millia, as if to say “Zato is worthless, I am more supreme”, but what Eddie failed to understand is that he shared Zato’s pride and Ego and that ended up being a large factor in what killed him in the end as hubris.

This ending assumes that Millia knew the difference between Eddie and Zato, and took Zato’s actions as an attempt to redeem himself in her eyes in his final moments as he struggled against Eddie.

The act of cutting her hair was Millia’s symbolic way of saying “You made me, you died, and now I am dead as well.”  In reality, simply cutting Millia’s hair would not end the Angra Curse… but this ending assumes that Millia found a way to finally end the Angra curse that bound her for so long as well.

By defeating Eddie, by defeating Angra, Millia would finally cut ties with Zato once and for all and finally live the life of a normal human.

But, reality is not so kind.

Millia learned over time that the powers held in her hair would never let her live a normal life… and so when Venom asked her to help learn the truth about Zato’s death and revival, she didn’t hesitate.

Because even amidst the shadows and despair she once despised, she learned that was also the place where she was the most “alive”.  That WAS her life, in the darkness of the Assassin World.

Venom knew this, and this is why he sought to become a “wall” between the Darkness and the Light… by defeating Bedman, he accomplished much of this, and gave both Zato and Millia a new future.

And they, in turn, gave Venom a new future as well (albeit a more humble one).
