Never watched Supernatural but wondering what all the hype is about? Then this is the post for you. If you have been on tumblr for some time or just from November 5, 2020, you may have seen a gif set or two or a hundred with destiel aka Dean and Castiel from Supernatural. @fandom​ even made a Destiel Is Canon post with short overview of basic facts! Are you interested but have no idea where to start? We know, we know. 2. If you don’t want to bother with Supernatural canon at all, then you are still in for a treat. With 92,500 fics (December 12, 2020) and counting, destiel is currently the biggest ship on AO3. Destiel fics cover a lot of popular tropes and kinks but some are more popular than others among destiel fans. Angst, miscommunication, exploration of Dean’s low self esteem, Cas’s rusty people skills and general otherness are a staple of AU fics. But also exploration of one’s sexuality - internalized homophobia, coming out, bisexuality and asexuality are common themes.

oh boy. ok. know ur herstory ! this was written from 2011 to 2012 and it is thee s7 fic, a virtual season written by 17 fans all together. it’s very very long and it suffers sometimes from having being written a decade ago, but im making my way through it right now and it still fucking holds up. i really do recommend reading at least some of it, you can stop around halfway through and you should be fine.

the can of worms this opened. I'll tell you @americachavez has like legit compiled shit but the ones that hold up for me have been. like Moses and batman and James dean. and named. and also. asunder bc of the nostalgia it brings me. if you do not know who zatnikatel is. Lol before I finished reading your message I was going to say...”Dust Devils!” 

I know right, it’s way, way up there. It’s so good I’m amazed none of the show’s writers didn’t rip it off and turn it into an episode. 

As for others, it’s been such a long time, I’m trying to think back but unfortunately, a lot of the good one’s I remember are ship heavy. 

The only one I can think of is The Woods Are Lonely, Dark and Deep written by Zatnikatel. It’s s1 so no Cas, and it’s pretty gen but also very dark so quite hard to read sometimes but worth it. 

Have you tried the hoodietime’s livejournal or tumblr account? 

They have an excellent tagging system, and also they do thread fics and requests. It’s the source for Dean hurt/comfort. 

In fact, it’s been a while so I’m going to go there myself.
