Zachi/Vader Appreciation Post
A lot of Tamagotchi books were released in early/mid-1997 before the release of the International P2 that features exclusive mystery creature Zachi/Vader-chan. While Japan saw a lot of reverse-import International P1s that saw Sam/Bill integrated into most Tamagotchi visual media post-May 1997, the International P2 was much more niche. As a result, there's nearly no art of Zachi/Vader, and no profiles in Japanese guidebooks and comics! He also wasn't included in any of the videogames. Per request, I was able to dig through my library and find some weird little dudes hanging around.
Bask in the alien glory of the most mysterious hidden character!

Proto-Vader-chan from August 1997's "Tamagotchi Research Report" (Tokuma Shoten's Roman Album line) as the International P2 wasn't released overseas until a month or so later. The tokusatsu alien/robot vibes are strong here.

Here are two Vaders from the harder-to-find second volume of Tamagotchi Research Report. The first is a sticker, while the second is from a gathering on the beach.

Tokuma Shoten went to town in their kids activity book "Doko² Tamagotchi". Look at him go! He spends a lot of time either introducing himself (ベーダーでーす "Iiii'm Vader") , hanging with Sam/Bill, or just living it up!!

Finally, obligatory English profile from the English "The Official Tamagotchi Care Guide and Record Book" by Doris Betz
And...that's it.
Justice for Zachi, he needs more media!!

Tamarindotchi
I've heard of these things since I was a baby, but they never interested me, so there's no "I got inspired by" or "I loved this as a kid" today lol
The thing is that I drew this back in 2021 because I saw the Tamagotchi Video Advetures on YouTube, and I liked the crayon-like style they had there, and the simple design of these characters was pretty cool to me. I don't know much about this franchise, but I'm aware that Mametchi is like the main one in the series, and, at least in this american version it was just another character (and apparently it was a girl), the common early weirdness of franchises lel
Anyway, this version was pretty nice to me, and hard to not draw the characters hehe

My cybies collection grows slowly. Masktchi is my white whale but sadly there's like no listings.
Sadly they can't stay there because they're blocking access to my drawers... hopefully i'll move to a place with a bigger room and enough shelf space for all my junk one day. For now though, everyone but Zatchi is getting tucked away.

Question for Zatchi ! Have you heard about the tama carddass ? do you collect them ?
Zatchi: *looking it up* OOooh! I have not heard of these! How wonderful!!
Zatchi: They are a little out of the range of what I usually collect truthfully, but these seem quite nice!
I'm not quite the type to collect trading cards, I'm more of a telephone card collector!

Okay does anyone know how to get Zatchi on the Tamagotchi original p2 remakes??? He's the one character that I reeeeeally wanted for maximum nostalgia but I can't figure out how to get him for the life of me 😔
#i did the whole 'no discipline until Zuccitchi and then provide perfect care' thing and no dice (unless i messed up and didn't realize???)#I've tried so many other possible variations too#I'm getting kind of sick of Zuccitchi 😬#please help me Tamablr :(#Tamagotchi#Tamablr#mod's yapping#i used to accidentally get Zatchi all the time as a kid- I'd love to see him again

One of my coworkers fell in love with my Frankentama and begged me for one of their own. This is the first time I've tried multicolor buttons...and I believe it worked!
They didn't believe I could make it sparkle from the inside. Well, surprise! Revenge of the clear hologram film.
Here's this one's pedigree:
-International P2 chip and screen (English language, Zatchi raisable, localized medicine icon)
-Original Tamagotchi Gen 2 wallpaper flipped upside down with a clear hologram sheet placed over it
-Japanese P2 green front shell
-Red buttons from a modern Tamagotchi Original, yellow and blue buttons from the clear blue (my custom) and green shells
-Solid purple screen holder (leftover part from my custom)
-Japanese New P2 clear yellow back shell (the other half of my custom)
-Keyring from International P2
-Stickers I bought literally a dozen years ago
I actually don't know if it works or not because I ran out of loose LR-44 batteries. Here's hoping it's not a total dud and that my coworker likes the result!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!
I was about to give up hope because it felt like Zuccitchi's hearts were draining faster, and I stupidly went downstairs without my Tama several times, just begging for a discipline mistake, but I hear the evolution sound and perk up to see my alien boy, I finally reunited with him after about 20 years give or take.
I told this story a dozen times. But I had a gen 2 Tamagotchi as a kid, white and green with red buttons it was. I took it up to a month long getaway at my Great Grandma's house for Christmas and New Years, which was far from home, the Tama was one of my only forms of entertainment besides a few toys, a tiny TV we didn't get to watch often, and a walkman.
I got Zuccitchi and almost cried, I never saw it before, I thought it was an ugly disgusting house fly or something, I had never seen it before and thought I did something bad to get an ugly adult, which the box kinda nails into your head. ( For the record, I love Zuccitchi now. I didn't have artwork to go off of back then ), but despite my feelings, I still took the best care I could of him, and through sheer dumb luck, I got the secret character, without even knowing a secret character exists. And this was just the coolest thing back then, finding a secret and not knowing what else could be hidden ( granted, with Tamagotchi originals, the secret character is the only secret but I didn't know that back then. )
I don't know how much battery life is left in this Tama, but i'm just happy I finally got Zatchi again, two biggest Tamagotchi Original goals, Get Mametchi, and get Zatchi, are met. I am very pleased.

What are your favorite Tamagotchi devices and characters from each of the different "eras"? (Vintage, connection, modern/color)
Oh, that's a tough one.
Ramble ahead.
Well let's start with the vintage era. I only have the P1 and P2 rereleases, so those are the only one I can talk about. Though there are many other releases in this era that I find interesting!
The gameplay on those two is basically the same, but the P2's game is better, so I generally enjoy running that one more. I also prefer the characters on that one, but I love the P1 characters too!
If I had to choose, I'd say the Kabuki group characters are my favorite. Those would be Maskutchi and Zuccitchi. They just look so funny to me, and I love that they are sort of mean and weird. The secret characters are great too, my favorite would be Zatchi.
The Connection era is my favorite by far, so I've got more to say about this one.
My favorite devices here would be the V4 and the Entama (plus their Ura counterparts.) The V4 and the Entama are really different from each other, but they both have their own charm.
The V4 has more content. It has many games that I love (Mimic, shapes…) and I really like how complex the growth chart is. The mail system is Cruel though, and I wish the teens you got weren't as random. The V4.5 has better games, but I like the V4 characters a little more. I do like how you need to marry a non-Ura character to get the Universal characters though!
The Entama is a far cleaner experience. The growth lines are all neatly separated, which makes it less random (but a little more boring for some people, maybe). It has less games; it relied far more on e-tamago.
From the devices before those, my favorite might be the Keitai. It doesn't have too much going on, but it's a sweet and simple device. It has a lot of cute details I really like. I love the C-click animations, the connection games, the seasonal stuff… the fact you can give them alcohol.
The V2 is a close second. Despite being very similar, I actually like the V3 far less (still love it though) because its games suck. The only game worth playing on that one is heading, and you don't get it until the teen stage. You might think: "but the Keitai has the Get game too!" but it's completely different to me. On the Keitai I can just play a little tune while wait for a few notes to fall and lose on purpose when I have a score of 3 (or 20, if I want the extra points and 2 happy hearts). That's enough to increase happiness on the Keitai. But on the V3 you need to get to 60 (!) for a single heart?? It just feels like a chore on that release.
The V2 has Jump from the start, which is way faster. And then you get Slots on the adult stage. Plus I just like the characters more. I also like how the treats work on the V2, they fill one hungry heart and two happy ones. On the V3 the foods are just normal meals and snacks.
I also find the V1 really charming, despite how simple it is. I love how the babies drink from a baby bottle, and how each character tier has their own food items. It's easy to get happy hearts from the games too. (The V3 is lying to you, you do not need to win the games to the end every single time for it to be worth anything!)
From the ones after the V4.5, I like the Music Star's gimmick, it's a really fun device. I just wish it didn't practice every 15 minutes… I really like the idea on the V5, but it's kind of a shame how you don't really have 3 characters. The younger siblings are like accessories to your main character. And you don't even get to name each of them. The Tama-Go is fun too, but I don't have much to say about it.
As for the characters, it's still the Kabuki group. I love Masktchi, Gozarutchi and Kurokotchi! I just have a soft spot for shy characters like Masktchi, and Gozarutchi looks so cool. I love all their personalities too. It's a shame people don't seem to like them much. Wooltchi seems to be more liked, despite just being Kurokotchi's fursona.
Kurokotchi loves kigurumis and dressing up as animals, so they're cannonically a furry. I'm right. Wooltchi is their fursona.
Other characters I really like would be Togetchi and Tosakatchi. Also love Hanatchi and Minotchi. Worms.
I feel like grouping the all the color releases together is oversimplifying it. If the Plus Color was released on 2008 (Tamagotchi was 12 at that point), that means we've had color releases for over 16 years. I'd separate them into the color era, the anime era, the m!x era and the smart era… but I don't actually have enough experience with these to talk about all of them.
My absolute favorite device I played with was the Hexagontchi… but mine broke. It was like a Keitai in color, but with a fun quiz gimmick!
My favorite character introduced in a color device would probably be Shimagurutchi. I love the characters introduced in the latest few releases too. Weeptchi and Awamokotchi are so good!
