Tres Zapotes is a Mesoamerican archaeological site located in the south-central Gulf Lowlands of Mexico in the Papaloapan River plain. Tres Zapotes is sometimes referred to as the third major Olmec capital (after San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán and La Venta), but the Olmec phase is only a portion of the site's history,[1] which continued through the Epi-Olmec and Classic Veracruz cultural periods.

U.S. Navy Bluejackets during the Battle of Zapote River.
On June 13, 1899, General Lawton's division moved south from Manila in order to capture the Filipino stronghold of Cavite. Reaching the Zapote river, they encountered Filipino entrenchements and engaged its defenders in a fierce fight.
To aid their assaults, American forces called on for support from the US Navy gunboats in Manila Bay, among them being the USS Helena and USS Monadnock. These two ships would provide naval gunfire, while also landing around 90 Bluejackets on shore, to support one of the attacks along the beach shore, as well as provide the army troops with additional supplies and ammunition.
----------------------------------------
Depicted in this piece is Fetch, as a US Navy lieutenant, dressed in the 1898 lieutenant's shore duty uniform, and Magpie, dressed in a seaman's shore duty uniform and manninng the M1895 Colt machine gun.
Both characters are owned by: @fetch26291
In the background the USS Monadnock can be seen firing its main guns.

La Mojarra Stela 1 is a Mesoamerican carved monument (stela) dating from 156 CE[1] (2nd century CE). It was discovered in 1986, pulled from the Acula River near La Mojarra, Veracruz, Mexico, not far from the Tres Zapotes archaeological site. The 4+1⁄2-foot-wide (1.4 m) by 6+1⁄2-foot-high (2.0 m), four-ton limestone slab contains about 535 glyphs of the Isthmian script. One of Mesoamerica's earliest known written records, this Epi-Olmec culture monument not only recorded this ruler's achievements, but placed them within a cosmological framework of calendars and astronomical events.[2]
