Anyone who seriously believes that Vin, Elend, and Zane were in a love triangle blatantly fell for Zane’s propaganda because like
The only person in the book who thought it was a love triangle was Zane

One of the funniest ways to find out you have a brother is by having your gf come up to you and be like :( sorry i killed your brother :( when you didnt even know you had one. The second funniest way is that your god dad tells you in a dream that you and your friend that youre really close with are actually brothers because your mom had an affair with his sister
#soop.txt#fable smp#mistborn#in both cases theyre half siblings too!#icarus morningstar#rae morningstar#elend venture#zane venture#<- i dont think zane has a las t name but i havent read the books in a while

reading part 2 of well of ascension and part 4 of oathbringer at the same time is... an experience
#cosmere#stormlight archive#mistborn#cremposting#i hate zane and his stupid edgelord self so much it's unreal#mostly just reading mistborn for the cosmere lore and to have something to listen to while not getting ahead of my wife in ob#it's not really my cup of tea and brando sando's writing has definitely improved over the years#which makes going back to earlier works...... kinda rough

If Era 1 Mistborn and Stormlight characters met each other…
If the Era 1 Mistborn gang and the Stormlight characters happened to meet up, what would that be like?
[Includes spoilers through Rhythm of War & Era 1 Mistborn!] 1. Dalinar & Elend
Elend: And THEN the council voted ME out! Man, democracy is just so hard!
Dalinar: Have you considered straight-up tyranny?
Elend: A-actually, yeah. Unfortunately.
Elend: It just…works so well…
Dalinar: I know.
Dalinar: Let’s not dwell on it.
2. Shallan & Vin
Vin: My mom tried to kill me.
Shallan: Same.
Vin: Luckily I had my brother who cared for me. But he also had a cruel streak.
Shallan: Yeah—trust me, I know.
Vin: I trained as a thief & con artist for a while.
Shallan: Oh hey, me too! And that’s fun, but I also like wearing nice clothes and marrying someone socially above my station, you know?
Vin: Yeah, same!
Shallan: But also…I’ve murdered, just, so many people. Including family!
Vin: Killed my boyfriend’s dad.
Vin: And ex-fiancee.
Vin: And brother.
Shallan: Yeah, the murders just keep coming!
Vin: Crazy how that works.
3. Straff & Sadeas
Sadeas: Knifed in a hallway by my nemesis’s son. Right into the brain. Eye popped and everything.
Straff: Literally cut in half by a giant sword wielded by my son’s girlfriend. My horse, too.
Sadeas: Bro.
Straff: Bro.
4. Breeze & Sebarial
Breeze: Well, it certainly is nice to relax with a glass of wine & let the other characters make the jokes, isn’t it?
Sebarial: …why did I just get you wine??
5. Sazed & Sigzil
Sigzil: And as a Worldsinger, I learn about other places and then share that knowledge to bring people together.
Sazed: That’s simply wonderful! I think feruchemy would work so well for you!
Sigzil: It does seem like an amazing power.
Sazed: Also, do you ever want to, just…
Sigzil: …strangle Hoid?
Sazed: Yeah.
Sigzil: Yeah.
Kelsier: Yeah!!!
Sazed: Kelsier, get to your own section!
6. Spook & Lift
Lift: So you…eat metal. And it gives you powers?
Spook: Yeah. I get my power from burning Tin.
Lift: After you eat it?
Spook: After I eat it.
Lift: Sucks to be you! I get my power from PANCAKES.
7. Marsh & Navani
Marsh: …and with these metal spikes piercing my body, I gained a number of powers. Also immortality. Apparently.
Navani: I am so horrified. And so intrigued. You’re going to make SUCH good research!
Marsh: The horror doesn’t, you know, put you off?
Navani: Nah, you should have seen my last research partner.
8. TenSoon & Kaladin
Kaladin: So you are a…puppy?
TenSoon: Well, I have the ability to consume the bones of a canine and then take on this shape.
Kaladin: [nodding]
TenSoon: That doesn’t…disturb you at all?
Kaladin: I don’t know enough about dogs to judge.
9. Zane & Szeth
Zane: And basically, with the voice of God constantly in my ear encouraging me to kill, I did that! Kill, I mean.
Szeth: Obeying an unknown disembodied voice because you thought it might be god? What foolishness.
Zane: Didn’t you obey a rock?
Szeth: That was DIFFERENT.
10. Kelsier & Moash
Kelsier: The thing is—aristocrats just gotta be murdered, you know?
Kelsier: You look into their faces, see the reflection of their endless crimes, and just think, “Yup. Murder time.”
Kelsier: And some people are like, “Kelsier, stop murdering everyone!”
Kelsier: And it’s like—do I tell YOU not to do what YOU’RE good at?
Kelsier: I’m good at three things! Survival. Starting cults. And murder.
Moash: …
Moash: I think I love you.

"You were never insane."
And God laughed.
Reading the Cosmere all out of order, and just finished Well of Ascension. Don't think I'll be getting Zane out of my head anytime soon. 🖤

Mistborn Era 1 Characters- Would They Listen To My Chemical Romance (as an MCR fan)
Kelsier: Yes, but specifically Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge and the heavy songs in Black Parade. It's great background music for killing nobles.
Vin: Yes, she is obsessed. She has posters in her room, merch, and has seen them live. She has listened to all their songs, and Gerard Way's solo music.
Elend: Not really, they used to scare him. Now he'll sometimes listen to them with Vin but they're not his favorite.
Sazed: During the time between Tindwyl's death and his Ascension, yes. But all other times no, he finds them too intense. Even during that time he only listened to their sadder, calmer songs.
Marsh: definitely after he escaped Ruin's control, I'm not sure about before that.
TenSoon: not until he met Vin. But he spent a lot of time listening with her and now loves them.
Rashek: I want to say no because if MCR formed in The Final Empire he would probably have them killed but like... he has dark pitch black hair and hates the world. If you looked at him you would assume he's an MCR fan.
Ruin: He would find them very fun, so probably.
Straff: The only main villain who definitely would not listen to MCR. He would probably be one of those people who's think MCR is ruining younger generations.
Zane: Do I even need to write this one? He would probably be creepily obsessed. Like Vin is jut having fun with it, Zane tries to find out where the members live.

Ballroom couple
I'm playing a Mistborn role campaign. In-game, our party belongs to the Buvidas noble house, Anika (my character) being the cousin of the official household heir (a party member). Anika is a mistborn herself, who takes pride on what she is and doesn't hide her powers. Everyone in the court knows it. She is a mistborn in the public eye, something no one other mistborn dares to do.
Zane (a character from the books) who is secretly a mistborn too, and also the bastard son of Straff, head of the Venture house, takes interest in Anika for being open about her powers. At first, he hides his identity from her, always showing in front of her dressed with the mistborn cloak that hides his features. Until he loses a bet and is forced to reveal who he is in a party hosted by house Harding.
They attend to the party together, and Anika presents Zane to the nobles under a fake identity. They are the main attraction of the night. They even start dancing on the ballroom and burn pewter to compete against each other while doing so, acquiring superhuman speed on their dance movements. Straff is present during the party, and only him recognizes his bastard son while he is using his powers to entertain the guests. The Venture patriarch isn't happy about it for sure, but the consequences for that act are still pendent for the next session.
It was fun! I had to draw them~

The Well of Ascension finished!!!
Excuse me?! What the actual f*?!
I mean, I suspected something was up with the whole Well thing when Sazed and Tindwyl were studying it and I even guessed the main thing about it but I didn't expect it to hit so hard...
I genuinely had to take breaks to stare at the ceiling after every chapter toward the end.
I heard quite a lot of people say that the second book of the Mistborn trilogy is boring and.... What do you mean!? This was probably even better than the first one!
I agree that the start was kind of slow and I admit that there was one storyline that I didn't enjoy. The whole Zane and Vin thing. I enjoyed Zane's story separately though.
*spoiler alert*
The last line from Zane's POV was brilliant and after reading to the end, it hits even harder. What I don't understand is why that thing was influencing both Zane and Vin. Why not just one? Because it needed a Mistborn to do what it wanted to do? Why did it choose Zane? I need to know!

One of the trillion reasons Mistborn solos all romantasy in terms of romance (and fantasy too) is that a lesser writer would’ve had Vin end up with Zane bc “enemies to lovers” and “the villain gets the girl” bs rather than what would make sense for Vin as a character

I feel like maybe we should revisit whatever Zane Venture had going on. This doesn't even cover Amaranta getting Straff addicted to drugs and Zane acting like he's been poisoning his father to cover that up.

The Well of Ascension - Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn Era 1, #2)
4/5 - Docked a point for dragging, fantastic political debates, succeeds at the tried and true end-of-second-book disaster
Spoilers below!
I really love this book just for the character growth that everyone is undergoing. Lots of introspection and learning acceptance of one's self, but also, many of them need to abide by the principle of "I think you're just thinking about yourself too much". However, given that they're like always in life or death situations, I'm letting it slide.
My main gripe with this book is that I feel like the politicking takes too long. It's a lot of hemming and hawing for the first 1200 pages and then in true Brandon Sanderson fashion, you have to strap in for the rollercoaster in the last 25%. Not a bad book and all necessary plotlines, I just wish they could have been slimmed down a bit. My eyes tend to glaze over when there are too many similar battles scenes and there were a lot of those in this book.
I also know that some people have very strong feelings about Zane - doing this as a reread, I actually liked him a lot more as a hint of what's to come. The first time I thought he was annoying and a distraction, I can be honest, but now I appreciate his character for allowing Vin to really struggle with her understanding of herself.
One of the big positives for me is (potentially controversially) the miscommunication between Elend and Vin. The miscommunication trope gets a lot of heat for being unrealistic and/or annoying, but personally I can't think of anything more human than assuming the other person means one thing and they mean another and not having the time or seeing the need to clarify those things. That happens literally every day in my Outlook inbox. The disconnect here makes their reconciliation feel all the more earned and such a relief at the back end of the story. Plus, both of them needed to question these things a little bit. A big pet peeve of mine is when characters fall in love and that's just that, happy ending, no questions asked. This is especially irritating to me when, like Vin and Elend, they are each others' first loves. It just feels more believable to me when they struggle with themselves and their differences.
Favorite subplots include TenSoon/OreSeur and Sazed and Tindwyl. Sazed POVs introduce a very stabilizing presence into the novel and he looks at things so differently from everyone else in the novel. I didn't cry this time around (I was close though) when Tindwyl died, but reading how Sazed loses faith in everything is still so painful. He's usually the heart and soul of realistic optimism in the group, much like Elend is their unrealistic optimist. Seeing him lose that in his grief is just like a stab to the chest.
As a side note, the concept of Ruin changing words on paper and altering people's memories is such a creative way of having your "evil" force seem all encompassing. I'm obsessed with the Shards in this series.
#it was a good thing I knew what was coming because reading the battle of luthadel the first time dehydrated me from crying#still its like :') ow#anyway i also love that Vin (even tho she's still technically a normal Mistborn) is so much more ingenius? powerful? creative? with Alloman#tldr Vin is still everything to me#trying to sell my friend on reading this trilogy and trust that Vin and her arc is playing a major role in that#mistborn#mistborn era 1#the well of ascension#brandon sanderson#book review#fantasy#high fantasy#cosmere#vin venture#sazed mistborn#zane venture
