#zander learns nothing

Ok, I'm kinda conflicted about Lander - primarily what it means for Zander's character.

Some have pointed out that him and Luke getting together arguably changed nothing about each other's character, and that for Zander's arc it would've been better for Luke to reciprocate Stacy's crush, and for Zander to learn to deal with the heartbreak, because he can't control how others feel about him, and he needs to learn to deal with his attachment issues stemming from his past father. That he should've been honest with his feelings, and learn to not push Luke away, but that he shouldn't have gotten in a romantic relationship with him.

I can see where this is coming from. Zander has many issues that he is yet to confront, and his relationship with Luke, on surface level only reaffirms in his dreams that he likes him back the same. Yet is that what he really needs? Or would've it been better for him to learn to accept Luke may not like him back the same?

On the other hand, is such an arc really that revolutionary? Or even necessary? Simply by growing the courage to confess Luke (despite of the possibilities of him not liking him back the same way) in some sense signifies a development of his character - letting go off his fears and deciding to be honest and vulnerable with his feelings. Admittedly, he immediately runs away and cries when he sees Luke and Stacy kissing. Because he's upset, obviously. Idk.

I don't know. I'm not even sure what's best for Zander's character. Because it's not as if he's undeserving of love. But he's afraid of losing that love - is the solution really to be given that love anyway, which only makes him not think about his fears and attachment and trust issues?

I mean, I guess you can explore unreciprocated love through characters like Jake (with Daisy) and Stacy, and possibly Drew (though I sort of doubt RosyClozy is going in that direction), Zander doesn't necessarily need to be one of them. I'm just not sure what's best for him

I don't think him learning to heal his attachment issues is necessarily exclusive of Lander being canon, like some people appear to think so - but his requited love may make him ignorant of his own issues, and only avoid them and not make them confront them

Idek if any of what I had just said makes sense - I hadn't watched TMF in quite a while. I love Lander but Zander just cuz you've got yourself a boyfriend now doesn't mean you get to ignore your trauma you still clearly haven't healed through.

Storytelling Secret Saturday Sunday

@havenroyals tagged me in a super cute post to share some juicy story-related secrets. So, for anyone interested, here are some A Devil Between Us lore straight from my brain:

(side note, I will finish the story if it's the last thing I do! There's literally only the ending left and I hate the idea of pouring years into it only to leave it unfinished!)

I put this all under a cut as it got way lengthier than I anticipated! Considering how friggin long the story is I tried to keep it fairly brief (I failed but anyway)

Tillie was supposed to get more screen time, mostly in Prodigal Daughter (ch.4). She hasn't really been seen much since her romance/marriage to Airdan. Nothing overly exciting, but a few cut scenes with Sky but mainly Kyra (we'll get further into that). Also cut was at least one scene showing Tillie and Airdan in wedded bliss. There will be a cute scene with them in the epilogue though!

Zander was also supposed to get wayyy more backstory, but I ended up cutting a lot with him, for the sake of time/trying to stay focused on the main storyline, especially as it was nearing the end. In the first couple chapters, there are several references to his difficult childhood, complicated family dynamics and the resulting impact on his mental health etc. There's a scene in Devotion (ch.3) where we see him cutting while dealing with the aftermath of Aida disappearing/skipping town. At this point in the story he has not-so-secret feelings for her and relapses as a result of this loss. I don't think there are any other mentions of this after Tillie finds out and. I also cut pretty much everything in relation to his relationship with Kyra (again will get into this more), other than they're together and very happy. Them getting together wasn't even a planned thing, but it was a good decision because they are cute AF together. There will also be a sweet epilogue scene with them at least. One last point, a while back I did a Faelern family tree post, I'm thinking I'll do one for Zander for context at the very least.

Amazing, awesome, gorgeous Kyra. To say I did her dirty is an understatement. She initially appeared as Aida's doctor in Tender Prey (ch.2). I had so many plans to flesh her out but, like many Tillie and Zander scenes (she was supposed to be properly introduced in Devotion (ch.3) as Tillie's acquaintance turned friend) they were cut purely in the interest of time/focus. She's a great character and I love her so much but I definitely fumbled her. It sticks out to me even more considering she's the only black character (will touch on this a little more). I don't even think I mentioned the fact that in her spare time she writes smutty novels under a pen name 😭 she will get a moment to shine and a sweet epilogue post but still. I'm so sorry Kyra!

Sky was always meant to be bisexual. Another thing I meant to touch on a bit but ended up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. I have regrets.

I definitely wish I did better with representation. I did my best with my knowledge at the time of starting the story/introducing the characters, but as a learning, growing individual there are things I wish I did a better job with now. Namely Kyra being cast aside as a minor character, definitely not intentional but I have big regrets here (not because of her race obviously but I hate the thought of a successful, intelligent black woman not being given enough screen time as she's so awesome and was meant to be seen a lot more, especially considering she's the only black character). Not to say I didn't try to include a variety of ethnicities/cultures in the story (Sky and Diego are both Latinx, Airdan is of Persian descent, Faelern is half Lakota though I think when I made him in CAS in 2014 I based his features on those of Cree peoples). But like Kole was meant to have Asian ancestry (where???) so I definitely did him dirty. During one of his more recent makeovers I did give him a new eye overlay but it definitely doesn't fix this glaring issue. Anyway, at the very least I can say I've learned a lot and can identify ways to do better in this area. Growth is good.

Speaking of Kole, it's very obviously alluded to the fact that he and Aida start sleeping together after Jace ends his relationship with her. I was gonna include a NSFW scene but cut it because it was too depressing. It's already blatant that she's in a very destructive downward spiral at this point.

Finally, I've been back and forth on this over the years but I decided I do not regret the copious amount of graphic sex/violence featured throughout the story. When I was first putting it together in 2015 simblr stories were the equivalent of the Wild West, the large amount of stuff I distinctly remember being written about (often with not a trigger warning in sight) would probably not fly today (I can think of two off the top of my head that included assaults on minors that even I found very disturbing). I definitely noticed a shift after the Great Titty Ban of 2018. I totally get being sensitive regarding triggers/trigger warnings and ensuring that minors aren't exposed to shit they shouldn't be. That being said, I do think there's a balance. For me personally, my blog is intended for adult audiences and is labeled as such. And, like other media that features graphic/disturbing elements, I think it moreso depends on how things are handled. While the story features some very heavy/disturbing topics (kidnapping, murder, sexual assault etc etc), in retrospect I think I did a decent job of being deliberate with these elements. Each dark/disturbing scene is intended to be just that, and treated with appropriate gravity. While I recognize that this is not everyone's cup of tea, I have no regrets. As for the non-disturbing sex scenes, what can I say, I love a bit of smut lol.

PRE CANON THROUGH THE EYES OF FLORIBETH DALISAY, PART 3: LOSING EVERYTHING, THE TRIAD INDUSTRIES DETENTION CENTER & BECOMING A YEAR-ROUNDER

she runs, runs until she's home, desperate to wake up from this twisted nightmare. but it's no nightmare. it's real. her tears are real, her ruined clothes are real and the blood on her face is real, too.

it's like she runs from one nightmare into another, because when she gets home, her house is ransacked, her parents are dead and burr is waiting for her, together with his team.

instead of killing her, which was the previous plan, burr calls veronica greasley.

floribeth gets taken to the triad industries detention center, where she meets davos e. crane, frances 'frannie' decatur and zander benvenuto because she ends up in the cell next to theirs.

it is there that floribeth first learns of her propensity for compulsion, headdives and reverse-headdives.

and although frannie was the one who got taken out of her cell the most to do locator spells, as soon as her propensity got revealed, floribeth got taken out of her cell to do the work too.

davos came up with the name 'the sitting ducks' and the four of them kept each other upright. they also made a pact: you get out, you run. you don't look back.

that's where caleb smallwood - untriggered werewolf and guard - came in. at first, he - like the other guards - drank vervain tea on the daily.

slowly but surely, however, floribeth managed to convince him to lower his dosage and then to quit drinking the tea entirely. she struck up a friendship with him, which he was happy with. discussing everything ranging from philosophy to mythology, caleb saw her as one of the good vampires. she wasn't a monster; she's smart.

he was right. she is smart.

once she was certain there was no vervain in his system anymore, floribeth fed from him when caleb got close enough. then she healed him and compelled him to get her out of there and to tell everyone who asked that his orders came from burr and veronica.

once outside, her final words to him were: "keep walking. no matter what happens. no matter the urges you feel. hunger, thirst, the need to relieve yourself. you keep on walking. even when you're tired. even when you're in pain. even when your feet bleed. you keep walking."

that's the last she saw of him.

caleb smallwood vanished into the woods and floribeth ran into the opposite direction under the cover of night.

she'd been stumbling alongside the freeway when a good samaritan picked her up. asked if there was someone to call. floribeth shook her head. said nothing of importance. so the good samaritan dropped her off in grove hill and personally walked her to the front door of the trauma center bearing the same name.

this is where jeremy gilbert found her: emptying their blood bags.

he took her to the salvatore boarding school where she received ivy's unused daylight ring in lieu of her own.

floribeth has been a year-rounder ever since.

Zander looked high and low for Notch. It was lunch time and he knew just how much Notch loved food. It was unlike him not to be the first one there with his head in one of the pots or bowls. Zander wasn't a chef by any means, but he knew how to cook a chicken or boil an egg. Not to mention the few times he was cooking for the greater knight Notch was there, trying to sneak in a taste the moment he turned his back around to do something.

"Notch?... Where ya at Notch? Lunch is ready! ... Food Notch!" He called out in the hopes that would entice the Ceruledge to come over. A growing sense of worry was starting to manifest itself in Zander. It really wasn't like Notch to pass up on food. He checked the sitting room in case he was asleep on a sunny spot, he checked the garage in case he somehow got himself locked in there, he then checked the front garden.

Nothing.

Just were on earth could Notch be?

Before resorting to calling work for help, Zander went over everywhere again. Only to spot him in the back garden passing by. He seemed to be enjoying himself sat there in the sun. With a sense of relief Zander went to approach the greater knight only to pause. A strange and cold-like feeling washed over him. He glanced around for what may be the cause of his unease, only to learn it was Notch that was the cause. The closer he got to the greater knight, the more intense this unpleasant feeling grew.

"Notch?" Zander called out in a concerned tone. Notch seemed to be startled and frantically rubbed something off his face before turning around. But there was no denying it, Zander could plainly see he had been crying.

Zander gave a sigh accompanied with a weak smile. Catching a glance of Notch's namesake and the evidence of tears, his hear sank at the thought of what or whoever mistreated such a kind Pokémon. "Mind if I join you? Think I'll sit over...here" he chose to sit in front of Notch's and to his left a bit.

"... quite nice here ain't it? Ya wouldn't think that Galar of all places would get sunny days. Was threatening tae snow earlier, bet that's odd to you, snow during spring." Zander gave a small chuckle before looking at Notch to see if his small talk was doing anything to cheer him up.

Needless to say it wasn't. Least it seemed it wasn't.

".... I don't know what happened to you Notch. And part of me wishes to never know just what you went through. But I know this much. You're safe now. You're safe and with someone who cares a great deal about you, and they ain't even a Pokémon trainer! Bet they never really planned tae be one in all honesty. And yet they're trying their best to give you the love and care you deserve".

Zander looked away briefly and mumbled something about how some people don't deserve to be trainers before returning his attention to Notch.

" I can give Harper a call later if you like. And I may not be them, but I give pretty decent hugs! Well i think they're decent." He opened up and offered the knight a hug if he wanted one.

"Once we've got you feeling better we can get you fed with whatever delightful meals i have in the house. What'cha think about that?".

Freemaker Adventures Headcanons

Zander's passion for starships came from Pace. The reason why Zander is just so obsessed with starships is because they remind him of his father. It's kinda a comfort thing.

Kordi is so overprotective towards Rowan, because the loss of their parents had such a huge impact on her, that she's terrified of losing another family member (and Rowan has a knack for getting into trouble and almost getting killed).

Roger blames himself for not being able to find Pace and Lena after they disappeared, even though he tried many times.

The reason why Rowan was so happy to admit that he's a Freemaker in "Duel of Destiny" is because he often doubted if he should even consider himself a Freemaker. He had a huge complex about not being as skilled as his older siblings and often causing trouble instead of being helpful. That's why he tried to find different, more fitting path. He always wanted to help people and that's why he wanted to be Jedi so much. However, after finding out about Naare's true plan, Rowan started thinking that he's not anything. Nor Freemaker, nor a Jedi. But after reuniting with his family in "Duel of Destiny" he finally managed to believe that he's a Freemaker and he doesn't need to be anything else to be happy.

When Freemakers were still living in the Wheel, Kordi had a lot of problems casued by stress like constant tension headaches, nightmares and overall problems with sleeping. Although after joining the Rebellion she became much happier and those issues stopped bugging her that much.

At first, Zander really couldn't grasp flying with starships and he often made really stupid mistakes. But then he started doing things "his" way and that's why sometimes he's flying like a madman.

Kordi learned to fly with starships quite fast. She also likes doing it, because it helps her relax a bit whenever she's stressed.

Rowan can't whistle, no matter how much he tried to learn it. Zander even tried to help him, but he failed.

Kordi swears a lot, but she tries to do it less and she always holds back when Rowan is around.

Even though Zander calls himself 'superstar pilot guy' sometimes he doesn't actually realize how great his flying is and how many times it actually saved his family.

Kordi tried many times to give Zander some advice when he tried to talk to Becky and maybe ask her out, but every time Zander backed away in the last moment, so Kordi kinda gave up.

Zander likes to pick Rowan up just for fun. He started doing it when they were both younger and Rowan was really small. Zander was just very excited about being a cool older brother, since he never felt like a cool older brother around Kordi who liked to boss him around.

Rowan doesn't get sick very often, but there was this one time when he was sick and although it wasn't very serious, Kordi was on edge almost all the time.

After joining the Rebellion, Rowan actually started having nightmares with Naare. Since at first they didn't know what exactly happened to her after Empire Day, Rowan was actually anxious that she's going to quickly come back to take revange on Freemakers. It got to the point where Kordi and Zander had to have serious talk with him.

Zander hates coffee and he stares with fear when Kordi drinks cup after cup.

Rowan would totally hyperfixate on games like Five Nights at Freddy's and he would tell Kordi and Zander about it and they would understand nothing out of it. He would also love games like Sonic The Hedgehog and Pokemon.

Now some LGBT+ headcanons:

Kordi is asexual lesbian.

Zander is bisexual.

Rowan is aroace.

Naare is a lesbian.

Being born of noble blood usually meant many things.

Or at least, Remy thought it meant they should have had the best nannies… And the best tutors. And some very competent servants. At least… Sindra's money allowed for that to be a possibility.

If only the old tiger wasn't a complete douchebag. Yes, he enjoyed every single perks that Sindra’s money and name gave him. He despised everything Sindra and his acolytes represented. Always going around like a fucking peakock parading Balis like a fucking trophy. And completely ignoring the mere existence of the twins while belittling Silas with every breath he had.

Silas… Silas was a whole different matter. Ever since Remy could remember, Silas had been left to his own devices while Sindra could have been less of an imbecile and made all their lives easier. As it was… Silas struggled. Daily. Only a blind person wouldn’t notice how Silas wasn’t fit for life in the high court. Or damehood for that matter. Five children to raise on his own… Sure that spoke more about Sindra’s utter imbecility than Silas’s innate inability. One would dare say that the ever perfect, could do no wrong, Taj was enough proof that Silas may have some competence… And he’d have to… Physically restrain himself from pucking. Or punching that person in the nose. Because when the punching started… People were reminded who the rumors claimed that really was Remy’s sire.

Trenton. Fucking. Coliar.

Tall, dark, knot for brains, fists of doom, Trenton Coliar. The Coliars were equally rich. Equally influential. Trenton in particular was twice as imbecile. Remy heard the rumors. Heard the tales. Trenton’s yearly visits and the subsequent tell tale of an incoming pregnancy and Sindra walking around even more like his assholish pompous self. 

The tales about Trenton were no better than those about Sindra. Omegas fucked and impregnated left and right... No one was ever truly safe if they were in their fertile period around the bear. And damned be the stupid soul that wanted to stand in the way of that hard cock and the nearest wet hole he wanted to violate. It was a marvel Orion accepted to train him. But then again... Trenton was of noble blood as well... He had been fed with a silver spoon and learned that a single growl could get doors and legs open for him. And if that didn't work... He would push and force his way through.

Such a stellar batch of role models...

How didn't any of his siblings end up messed up in the head was a mystery. Because Remy... Well... Growing up he had to call out for attention, otherwise his dame would be too busy with his perfect little protector and soldier. Or his "Sire" would be too busy showing off the little one he decided was the worthy heir out of the litter his good for nothing seed produced. And his true sire... Well... No point in dwelling there.

Everything Remy did was outshined by one sibling or another. Singing? What good was that against Balis' nearly realistic paintings? Serving the royal guard? Taj was already there casting a long fucking shadow with his perfect posture and his perfectly honed technique and his undeniable discipline. And the twins were already a source of scrutiny as it was, a constant reminder that Sindra wasn't the high and mighty breeder he claimed to be. Not to mention Zander and Vander had each other's backs at every waking moment.

Bitter as he was about all that, with the additional weight that he couldn't stand his older brother and didn't have a single ounce of respect for his younger, on one thing all five alphas agreed. His travels would take him to the path towards the same village they had sent their dame months prior. And Remy didn't think he'd come so far to escape the shadows of alphas to settle in that village with Silas. No. He would stay on the road and stop in the next village. 

He just didn't expect to find himself taken out of his path and out of his time and brought into a future that he did not understand. 

In New Haven: Remy is still getting used to the technology. To the future. To the chaos of war and the impossibility that was the mere existence of a place like New Haven. He found his place in the night. In a bar. Wearing flashy clothing and pouring drinks to men that had a long day and want to ignore their own misery. At least the tips are good and the hours keep him from crossing paths with his siblings in the house they all share.

Whoever thought keeping all the Riveras under the same roof was a good idea was an imbecile beyond measure and a being completely devoid of tact.

I’m very competitive so~ But yeah! I think when I first learned about Ian, I was upset at what he did, but the afterlife story combined with what we know from the original game hints more as to why he did it and why he wouldn’t do it again. Self esteem issues mixed with religious trauma can definitely f-up someone’s mental image of sex and taboos. Of course, there’s a part of him being so used to m/c being around that he took them for granted a bit, but it’s normal to get more comfortable with someone after knowing them for so long. This whole situation was a reminder that M/C chose to be with them not because it was easy and convenient, but because they wanted to and so doing something like cheating might make them step away. But outside of that, I feel like a long heart-to-heart conversation and some counseling would really help their relationship heal, as couple or as friends. He never did it out of spite of M/C or to purposely hurt them so I don’t think it’s right to demonize him.

It's cute how honest you are with me, I think you know I'd see right through you if you tried to lie. Ooooh see I don't think Ian took mc for granted at all. What I think happened is that his mother somehow convinced him that mc was being unfaithful. Whether it was just through constantly sowing seeds of doubt, or having mc followed and photographed in innocent situations framed to look scandalous, or paying someone to lie to him and say they'd slept with mc/seen mc sleeping with someone else. From what we've seen in Afterlife, she's not above things like having Ian followed. She clearly has the money for this sort of thing, doesn't approve of the relationship, and will go to any lengths to manipulate Ian and make him do what she wants. I think Ian didn't know what to do when he was made to believe mc cheated, so he slept with someone else to at least feel desirable and like he was as capable as mc of finding someone else. But as soon as the heartbreak and anger died down (and post-nut clarity hit), he realised it was his mother orchestrating the whole thing all along. So he feels guilty and responsible (because he was ultimately the one who believed it and made the choice to sleep with someone else) but it still keeps in line with the personality we saw in Afterlife and tracks with what we know of his mother. idk this might not be the way they go with it, but to me it makes more sense with what we've seen of his character than him just... deciding to cheat on a whim. Or cheating because he somehow takes mc for granted and assumes they'll forgive him (which is like... the exact opposite of what we've seen of his personality so far).

I have a Persona 5 oc based within the world, and I'm really struggling to figure out a good design/aesthetic for his metaverse outfit. I've had a few ideas previously, but nothing that really matches his personality, his interests, and flows well with the other rebel outfits. I've researched a lot of metaverse outfits and ideas, (I run a Persona 5 role play server, and I help everyone else with theirs), and there's this idea that the metaverse outfit represents the users idea of a rebel. For example, Haru's is based off "rebels" of literature she might appreciate, daring stories like the three musketeers and Robin Hood. Ryuji's is based off that bad boy and punk stereotype he's gotten. I'd really appreciate some help developing him!

Here's some basic info on him. (Not everything is here cause I might change other things based on the aesthetic I choose)

Name: Zander Ethnicity: South Asian/Japanese Physical Appearance: Messy Black hair, Tan skin, glasses, brown eyes.

Arcana: Judgement Ranged Weapon: Flare Gun Affinities: Psychic and Gun Persona: Houdini (Harry Houdini) Persona Appearance: A large, thin, female humanoid monster wearing purple and black escape artist attire, surrounded by chains and purple smoke. (Is a woman for lore reasons)

Personality: Relaxed, calm, witty, head in the clouds, over-emotional, over-dramatic. Occupation/Hobbies: He's a computer guy, doing coding, but his hobbies include graphic design and digital music

Backstory: (Taking Place between Futaba's Palace and Okumura's)

Zander’s mother was Japanese and his father was Pakistani, but he’s not really involved in the backstory. Anyway, his mother was a researcher working on an experimental drug. She worked on it with her associate, Eika Lyaire. Lyaire had a daughter about Zander’s age and the two were friends. Lyaire and his mother were close, but she was arrogant. During the final stages of the drug, which was supposed to help with insomnia, an argument broke out between the two women on who would get rights, and who to sell to. Zander was young at the time, so didn’t remember much, but Lyaire slipped some of the drug into his mother’s coffee before she left for the night. Because of it, she crashed her car that night and ended up dying on impact. Zander was also critically injured, but Lyaire’s daughter donated blood to him and he eventually survived. Zander was taken in by Lyaire, but was guilt-tripped every day of his life by her. Eventually, this weaker and more submissive Zander drew Lyaire’s daughter to be like her mother, and he basically became a slave for them, and eventually anyone. He assumed everyone around him was using him, but he deserved it. He did owe them. This led to him gaining a palace. A cult, where he was the false god that everyone took more and more from.

The Phantom Thieves got involved by a student who saw him acting strange on the Phan Site. They attempted to causally approach him as friends, just to get the palace information. When Zander found out about this, this made him very antagonistic toward them, until he accidentally stumbled into his own palace. Inside it, he was put to death by a shadow version of Lyaire, and his heart actually did stop the moments before he awakened. He then finished up the palace, learned the truth about his mother’s death, and Lyaire was subsequently arrested, and her daughter was horrified to learn the truth, begging for forgiveness

I HAVE TO CONFESS IT. I HAVE TO SAY IT. GOSHDARNIT I HATE LANDER WITH EVERY BONE IN MY BODY- 😭😭😭

Okay, so, may get some slander for this but Let me explain myself first- Lander is literally the least developed, most emotionless relationship in tmf.

1. Its (pretty much) useless to the plot

Literally like, they’re supposed to be “super close”, they used to be childhood best friends and now they’re lovers! But like…When do we see that ever???

Lander was basically just an excuse to give luke some screentime, and to give zander some more screentime. I know that not everything has to be necessary to the plot of tmf, but in general, when things happen, especially in such a short series (less than 15 episodes in season 1), even filler content should somehow be able to push the plot forward, right? Apparently not, because Lander literally did nothing plot wise!

You could argue that yes, it did show Zander and luke that jake was a trustworthy, but theres so many other ways that he could have done it, without the whole lander arc, which could have arguably set up both characters for more interesting arcs?

Honestly, I feel like there could have been an arc where luke accepted stacy, and zander had to learn to deal with heartbreak, and it would still push the narrative in the same direction, could have had a lot more buildup too

2. It feels like it’s just there for representation

As a queer person myself, do not get me wrong, it is WONDERFUL to have representation within media, on bigger more popular shows too! I’m eternally grateful that rosy added them in to showcase a queer relationship, however, lander honestly feels like its just that. Like its there, JUST to showcase a real relationship.

Like, they had a cute confession moment, but it was so early on in the series that it genuinely didn’t seem like something that was built up to. Sure, we got a bit of time, but how much time was that? 2 episodes of build up tops? “Lovesick luke” and “a drummers confession” was like, literally it. Nothing beforehand to build up to it, besides the whole “Zander is gay” and “zander and luke are childhood best friends” thing, but those can exist within platonic relationships too, so thats not really buildup at all

We never get to see why they’re attracted to eachother, other than “wow, they’ve been friends for a while and admire eachother, they must have crushes on eachother” like- even as a person who is VERY VERY VERY romantically attracted (think opposite of aromantic, then scale it 20x past that), its just giving “boy and girl co-star on a show and end up together at the end because you cant have 2 friends be close without them being romantic,” but made queer.

Genuinely, if theres going to be a relationship, i think that (as much as i personally am not really a shipper of it) jailey is a WONDERFUL example.

They kind of grew on eachother, and we see that attraction growing slowly, rather than being shoved in our faces or being rushed. Its a well thought out love arc, and almost perfectly encapsulates a slowly formed relationship. even in such a short show, it didn’t feel rushed.

(While rereading this, i’m really notsure how to phrase my words, so these words absolutely do not reflect my ABSOLUTE feelings on this, but this is about as close as I can get with it. I am in absolutely no way accusing rosy of being homophobic, Infact i see quite the opposite in her, she’s a wonderful ally, its just meh writing)

3. Its honestly not the best ship? (This part is my opinion purely)

Dont get me wrong, they’re not toxic by any means, (infact, they seem quite healthy!) but they 100% have some issues they need to work on. Like… does no one notice how Luke like, threatened jake if he hurt zander? Obsession issues a tad bit, perchance?/notneg

Luke kinda exists to push zander’s story arc along in the first season, so we get like, no luke character traits, which i think definitely contributes to them not being the best pairing, but overall they’re so generically “mehh” of a relationship. They’re just kinda together, to be together.

4. FINAL REASON: It was just there to push jake’s story along.

Honestly, I think this is the underlying reason here. Jake is the main character in a really short show, so if somethings not revolved around him, its gotta be quick. Lander would definitely be so much better with more development, but because its not jake centred, we basically get nothing on them. This isnt rosy’s fault by any means, shes gotta get the main story in ofc, it just sucks that that seems to cost other characters screen time and development that could have been really nice.

Overall, Rosy please make more lander stuff in season 2, I need to stop hating it cause it could genuinely be so cute 🙏

today has been hectic, so i haven’t had the chance to update yet, sorry! i’m typing this out from someplace pretty sandy, on the hunt for our next titan! we’ve found a small cave to shelter ourselves from the sandstorm, so my boyfriend and i are just sort of sitting here, haha! anyway, here’s how today has been so far!

it started with a call from a… friend, or maybe just an associate of mine. i don’t know their name, and it’s pretty obvious they’re using a voice changer, so i have no clue who exactly cassiopeia is. i’m very certain that’s a code name of some sort. there’s a lot of things about what i have done that i’m not sure i can really talk about… but i trust my followers aren’t part of team star, so i can spill the beans!

me - and this familiar faced fellow here that i met - along with my boyfriend aether, cassiopeia, and at least one other person… are all part of a covert operation called operation starfall. our objective is to defeat team star by debasing its leaders, one by one, until their entire team crumbles. i’ve been pretty quiet about this, because until today, aether and i weren’t sure we should join cassiopeia’s cause. but things are different now.

we stumbled upon a team star base today. and cassiopeia - who i guess is somehow tracking us - alerted us of this, assuming we were joining. well, seeing our team star harassed that one uva student from before… our choice was clear. the base belonged to the schedar squad, a fire-type subdivision of team star that is camped out near artazon city. aether and i defeated the grunt by the gates with ease, and took six pokémon in, between the both of us. clive, also a fellow uva student, found a friend - charlos the charcadet, who lived on the grounds of uva itself. what is he doing way out here, anyway?

anyway, i took in meatball, gwaine, and my zangoose, zander. aether took his houndour (dabi), his buizel (leon), and his luxio (arisu). we absolutely ripped through the schedar squad’s pokémon, defeating at least sixty of our opponents. this was just what we were looking for. after we made enough noise, the leader of the schedar squad came out to meet us… mela.

despite her very intimidating demeanor and glare, mela seems very cool! her fashion sense is next level, and that gruff attitude of hers actually accentuates how cool she seems. somehow, i actually think i may have some gender envy looking at her! :0 anyway, she’s an absolutely terrifying opponent to face off against! meatball was actually able to turn the battle around when it was looking pretty scary!

maybe he wanted to make me proud since he couldn’t participate in the battle against brassius? either way, with most of my party defeated, he made a pretty good last stand against the schedar starmobile, a scarily amped up varoom (i think?). in the end, mela complimented our battling prowess, especially that of meatball, which made him jump for joy.

she even gave us TMs! both were for flame charge, which she promised was for meatball and dabi, and definitely not for us. if you’re reading this, mela, thank you! according to the tm machine at the pokémon center, meatball can’t actually learn it, so i’ll just keep it as a keepsake of our awesome battle! you’re really cool, and i hope we can battle again soon!

my boyfriend snapped this picture of us on his rotom phone after the battle! (wow, what a strong grip!) anyway, now that we have her leader badge, does that make us leaders of team star? i don’t think we really qualify! either way, we’re 1/5th of the way through with operation starfall! we’ve already declared war on you, team star, but here’s it written a bit more clearly: we will defeat you!

maybe you aren’t all bad. i think mela is good, deep down! and she thinks of you so fondly, you know? it’s nothing personal, but we have to defeat you. mela said something about an operation star… not operation starfall. what is it, i wonder? i didn’t want to pry, even though clive seemed to really want to.

and charlos tagged along! he and mela used to be friends back when she still attended uva, and it seems he hasn’t forgotten her so easily. charlos really wants mela to return to uva, but she says she can’t go back. it was heart wrenching to see, especially because you could tell she really cares for that little charcadet, too… she understands him so well. i’m certain a part of her wishes she could take him with her. :c this is getting a little long, so i’ll make another post!

Also as someone who is getting in my last semester of an English degree it is astounding the impact fanfiction has on writers.

Truely if all you do is read fanfiction your writing is shit.

Is there incredible fanfiction ? Of course I LOVE FANFICTION.

But it’s full of writing issues.

For example:

Not establishing a setting (because your used to your reader already knowing the show)

No build up to relationships (because the charectors know each other already)

THE ORBS the charector descriptions are so obvious to fanfiction writers in comparison to contemporary fiction. DONT describe everything about someone in one get go, let your MC learn things like a normal human.

Ex. Most people forgot Jason Grace in the Percy Jackson has glasses, because they are only relevant when affecting him. Yet everyone knows Dean Winchester has green eyes, freckles, is bowlegged, and dirty blonde hair. All of which affects no one but him (and maybe Cas) so how does knowing this information affect your plot ?

The names, full stop. I’m sorry, but if I read one more “Damon” or “Gray” or “Steel” or “Asher” or “Zander” I’m going to loose my mind. Same with Deanna Sam and Cassie you’re not slick y’all.

This is a big one

CHARECTORS THAT MEAN NOTHING TO THE PLOT. Why are the side charectors there ? Are they stand ins for other charectors in shows ?? What do the main two love interests have going on other then each other ?What is happening around them or too them ? Does the plot affect literally any of their friends or family in anyway ?

And If it’s all “implied” or “developed off screen”it’s not good writing, you’re just used to knowing the charectors and world from the jump and it’s made you lazy and unable to build your charectors and world.

It’s the instant gratification that is killing the writing.

Also it’s getting to the point fanfic writers outnumber straight writers so people don’t get useful critique because the fanfic readers give comments like “I didn’t get it” “too much exposition” “I can’t picture the main character” “I got bored”

And those can be valid criticism under the right circumstances, but for the most part it boils down to “I didn’t get the immediate gratification of my blorbos so I stopped caring” and it’s endlessly frustrating.

this is going to sound like the most boomer take ever but I genuinely think increasing reliance on technology for entertainment in youth is draining creativity. it's that instant gratification which allows you to shut your brain off for a while. these kids aren't having to resort to their own creativity when bored. there's always a solution to "bored" now. BRING BACK PLAYING WOLVES UNTIL BEDTIME

Tiny story!

Today Zander went to check on Chip and give him a box of cookies. Today he learned Chip knows Lava Plume. After a quick trip to the Hospital Zander hobbled his way back to see chip, determined to give the little Charcadet his box of mixed biscuits. "That was quite a spicy attack ya got there Chip! No as spicy as your bite though, this still stings" he said while inspecting the backmof his right hand. He still had the plaster over the bite wound from their first encounter.

Chip just glared at Zander from his bed. He didn't care so much about him being in the room as long as Zander kept his distance.

"Anyway I'm gonna leave this box here for ya then find a corner to sit in. Gotta figure out just what happened to ya after all" and Zander did exactly that.
