I wasn't a huge fan of Stardust Memory. The animation is terrific and I enjoyed some of the mecha designs... But the story was a big ol' nothingburger.
Obviously they're somewhat constrained by trying to fit it in-between Gundam '79 and Zeta - but that just means you have to write a story that fits. You can't really blow up a third of the EFSF fleet, drop another colony on Earth, and then have everyone just agree to never speak of it ever again.
Anyway - I built the Zaku II F2 (EFSF ver.) this week.
I really like the idea that the Zaku II is just such a good mobile suit that even the EFSF has to admit it. I like seeing it in EFSF colors, with EFSF markings. It's a neat little narrative thing.
Unlike the Origins kit I recently built - this one has a molded detail for the monoeye. So I was easily able to paint that with my favorite metallic pink Gundam Marker.
This kit is primarily a creamy off-white, which gave me the opportunity to use my brown flow-type Gundam Marker for panel-lining. Normally I'm just using the black and grey ones.
It's weird... Seems like the brown marker dries much slower. Or doesn't set as well? It's much easier to smear.
We get a couple different hand options, which is always nice. But we're still limited in how we can use the weapons... There's two different guns in the kit, but they're specifically designed for use with the trigger-finger right hand. So we can't dual-wield them out of the box.
Also - that trigger-finger right hand is a little delicate. I broke the thumb off when I was trying to remove the gun. Be careful.
I was a little annoyed by these legs. The hoses don't fit very securely and they keep popping out. Also - the tops of the legs are basically open. You can't see much since they've got the hip joint on top and they're up under the skirts... But it still bugs me.
There's no color-correcting stickers in this box at all - just some sticker-style marking decals. That means the missiles in those leg pods would just be all grey. I used one of my DSPIAE markers to paint them red.
There's an extra magazine for the Zaku-style machine-gun. And some grenades (?) you can stick on the side-skirts. There's a connector to stow the heat hawk when it's not in-use... But I couldn't get that bit to attach securely anywhere.
I don't like those missile-pods on the legs much. They look kind of weird? And they don't attach securely at all - they're just kind of hanging there.
I like this gun. I don't specifically love the design, but it's fun to see a Zaku II with something different.
All things considered, I liked this build. It's a nice variation on the Zaku II I've built so many times. A few neat differences and tweaks. And I like the updates to the design enough that I'll probably be picking up the Zeon version of this kit eventually.

Hi, Zack!
Finished up the Hobby Hizack, barring a few stickers. As somebody who wanted the Hobby Hizack as a kit since I saw Char’s Counterattack this is pretty neat, but I do have some mixed feelings here and there. Call this a pseudo-review:
PROS:
Great part separation, stickers are mostly for vent and vernier details. Impressed the shoulder thrusters are separate parts!
Articulation is great for a High Grade. It’s got the Zaku II Revive’s swivel-elbow-thing so you can spin the forearm around while it’s bent AND it has a dropping hip joint to get better kicks and a great ab crunch.
Solid construction. Everything holds together nicely despite all the joints. Feels really good to pose and handle.
CONS:
Oddly enough they abandon the “chin switch” monoeye control in favor of popping the head open like the old HG Zaku II. Better than the static monoeyes of old but still strange.
The front skirt clashes with the waist when tilted past a normal walking angle… so making use of the dropping hip means you have to scrape parts past each other. It’s a weird tolerance oversight.
No hand options. You only get the “holding” hands.
Price. Previously a Side F exclusive and now P-Bandai, it came out to about $30. With no accessories either, that’s a pretty penny for a High Grade.
NOTES:
The Hobby Hizack being a civilian-use machine explains no weapons, but in absence of Hizack weapons I would have liked at least one open hand.
This design borrows some elements from the Hizack Custom, which has no model kit. The shoulder armor and leg boosters can be considered “exclusive” as such.
Despite originating from Char’s Counterattack this model is based on Advance of Zeta’s design. Given the different aesthetics it’s gonna stick out next to your CCA models.
Final Thoughts
The Hizack was derived from the Zaku II F2 in lore, and while I don’t have a standard Hizack I do have an F2. Interestingly, the AOZ proportions of the Hizack line-up quite well with the F2. I’ll have to see how a standard Hizack fares when I get one later down the line.
Overall I grabbed this because I really like the Hobby Hizack as this civilian-ified mobile suit that’s also derivative of the Zaku II. It’s got great shelf presence, is a really fun build, and has some excellent engineering, but the only turn off is exclusivity and price. I certainly don’t regret picking this up but I’d say only go for it if you’re a diehard fan of AOZ or Zaku derivatives in general.

RX-78GP01 Gundam Zephyranthes, including the Full Burnern upgrade, as well as Core Fighter II + Core Fighter II Full Burnern. I cheated on the color for the rifle jutte, the best existing color would be trans-green. Slowly fleshing out my 0083 Stardust Memory Federation ground and space squads. I've got GM Custom and GM Cannon II designs to upgrade next; debating Zaku F2 aggressor and GM Late Type C.

MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 from Bandai
A simple click together kit.
Flat coated with a clear primer to deaden the waxy look of natural plastic.
Then applied graphite for metal or worn parts.

I’m gonna guess that it’s a Zaku II F2 from 0083 Stardust memories. Either that or the Origin Zaku II.

WIP color scheme for my HG Zaku II F2 “Command” custom. This will probably be the final scheme going forward. Going to be using Tamiya acrylic XF57 for the brown and XF12 for the green. Again, this unit will be operating in southwest North America. Any suggestions for camouflage schemes and such are welcome!
