Ease My Mind ;; Teddy & Zach
Typically, it wasn’t a good sign when your boyfriend just up and disappeared. Well actually it was never a good sign. But the fact that Teddy knew exactly where he disappeared too hadn’t helped them any over the past two months. They had tried their best not to think about it too much, but it had been hard. They had fallen so hard for Zach and then a month into their relationship he had disappeared. He was GONE. And it freaked them out. (Not to mention Josh had disappeared too...) Teddy couldn’t just lose him! They threw themselves into their hero work, and then that freaky-deaky dream happened and then... Ugh.
Nothing good had been going on.
But, as soon as they had woken up from that Sleeping Beauty style spell, they were pretty much assaulted with a vision. Zach arriving back at his apartment, looking more tired and beat up than Teddy had ever seen him. They couldn’t tell the exact time, but... They had time before he got back. And in a not so normal Teddy way, they went to the store and then back to their apartment to make Zach comfort food. Once their dish(es) were fully prepared, they had packed them up and made their way to his apartment with time to spare.
They waited. And they waited. And they waited... Until finally they heard stumbling through the hall. Teddy stood up quickly, tote bag full of food forgotten when they saw Zach. “I--” Their voice caught in their throat. They didn’t want to cry in front of him. His aura right now was... So much worse than it had ever been. They had never seen Zach like this. They needed to be strong for him. “Long... Long time no see, stranger...”

Tipping Point || Zach
After almost two weeks of no progress in regards to the city’s alternate reality dream and the now missing Metahuman responsible, Elisabeth had finally decided that it would be more productive -- and less detrimental to her health -- to focus on other things that needed her attention just as much if not more so. Reports and file updates, potential employee applications, additional information Monica sent over to her that needed to be reviewed soon... And the agent that she was trying to find.
After his temporary removal from the Meta Squad and extended rehabilitation, Elisabeth wanted to make sure Zach was recuperated before she approved him to return to full duty and go out on any big field missions. She finally managed to track the young man down in one of the training rooms, unusual enough given the evening hour and little traffic on the building level. The commander watched for a few minutes before venturing into the training room, taking care to alert him of her presence so she wouldn’t caught him off guard and end up with anything thrown at her.
“Agent Acosta, I’ve been looking for you. Do you have a moment?”

IRLspaceboy(s) || Zach & Ha-neul
Hans hadn’t been feeling well at all, the entire day. Most likely something whatever it was, that had been going around. This was the exact reason why he hated a majority of people, he felt like he should be quarantined. But, that wasn’t stopping him from performing at his latest event; which would be one of his biggest yet. Gathering his gear and the specific USB, he opened a portal right behind the building of the building he was playing at; then walked around as a crowd came by; to not cause suspicion of course.
Once all set up in the booth, and more people began pouring in; Ha-neul started the first of many different sets for that night. A few hours into the night, he was ready to plug in his USB and take a quick break. Grab a few light drinks and interact with some fans (or just people who enjoyed the music), noticing someone around his age standing near the bar; he summoned all his confidence and shoved his awkwardness down. Walking over and wasting no time in laying it on thick (way too thick). “So…do you often coming here…? I hope you are enjoying my sets so far…it would be very breaking of my heart; if you’re not. Especially someone as attractive as you’re being.” He said sounding super awkward and unsure of himself, even in his own ears.
“If you’re liking to, I would love if you joined with me in the VIP section. I would love the company.” Hans finished scooting ever so closer, hoping he looked and sounded at least a little flirtatious. Or as much as he could with the mask covering half his face.

Hold Up || Zach & Chan-bye
When he’d joined the Rebel Army as a scout, it had sort of been an impulse thing. Honestly, Chan-bye had felt like he sort of owed them. Especially since one of their members had helped him out, when he got into a bit of trouble with some agents. Plus, didn’t joining them sort of count as like...a big step towards socializing...well, since he couldn’t really tell his family; he’d assume not. But since he was a registered Meta, and lived practically right next to HQ; the boy assumed he would prove as a useful teammate
Currently strolling through the Wolfhurst shopping center, his eyes fell onto a man dressed in his C.A.R.M.A gear and walking around; just seeming to keep an eye on things. Suddenly, he was struck with a rather intelligent (well in his eyes it was) idea. The place was pretty crowded, Chan-bye could easily tail him from a distance. Well, maybe a little closer than just a distance; since he didn’t have a scent on the guy, it would be easy to loose him. Especially since it would also be far too easy for himself, to get swept up in one of the many crowds of individuals. So he’d just, keep a safe distance sort of directly behind the man and staying partially hidden by a body or two. In his opinion, he was doing pretty darn well right now; of tailing the guy. That is until he’d turned a corner, which in turn made the scout speed up a little bit; turning the corner to try to find where the agent went. Only to come face to face with said agent, who didn’t seem to be very pleased.
“O-oh...ahh...hello, sir...” He began warily with a sort of forced chuckle, as he stared with wide eyes at the C.A.R.M.A agent before him. “Uhm....so you...knew already I was following you around? I was ahh...curious about like...all of that stuff you’re wearing...and I...I...” Chan-bye trailed off with a small stutter, never being the best at lying in general. Especially lying on spot. “Think Chan-bye, think. Say something that will sound real.” He muttered to himself, shaking his head and refacing the agent. “Is it fun? I uhm...want to join! So...I was going to ask you like..questions and..yeah..” It sounded bad in his own ears, he could only imagine how it sounded to the man before him. Mind going a mile a minute, the rebel scout wondered to himself if things would get physical; and he’d really hoped not. He’d joined as a scout specifically due to his powers not being the most useful in actual combat.

Holiday Joy Ride || Finn & Zach
Finn supposed he could understand C.A.R.M.A’s reasoning to negate all powers during the holidays. Last year, Christmas had been a mess thanks to his younger brother and the ice storm, so it would be nice not having to worry about a major fuck up this year from any Metahumans. However, he highly disagreed with the execution, because what the fuck was he supposed to do without his teleporting? He had to walk now. He did not enjoy walking to places when it was so much easier to teleport.
It was the morning after Christmas, and he decided to go get some coffee for himself and Daniel as a breakfast treat. The walk was thankfully not too far from his apartment, only about ten minutes, and it was still early enough that not many people were out and about on the sidewalk. Everyone was most likely at the mall, fighting off crowds to return gifts and hit the after Christmas sales. Just as he reached the coffee shop, a C.A.R.M.A vehicle pulled up into the parking space against the curb right outside the store, and his heart nearly stopped in his chest until he saw the driver––Zach Acosta. The blond wasn’t sure if approaching him would be smart, since he wouldn’t put it past C.A.R.M.A agents to try and drag him back, but today, Zach was just as powerless as he was, and boy that was probably the reason for the moody expression on his face. He smirked, speaking up to get the agent’s attention.
“Well, well, well, don’t you look super bright and cheery today, Acosta.”

Wild ;; Aaliyah & Zach
Aaliyah was done trying to help other C.A.R.M.A. agents with their problems with their abilities. She needed at least ten minutes to herself to contain her own... Glowing issues. She had reigned most of it in earlier in the week but she was still struggling with some reflection problems and the glowing light aura around her from illusions and the moon itself was just not leaving. She had plopped down in the agent lounge, her head already resting on a pillow on the couch when she heard someone walk in. “Nope, no, nope, this is my area, I have claimed it for the next....” She looked at her phone to see the time, “at least for the next twenty minutes if not forever.”

Teddy was hanging on the edges of the Pride Party, not that they didn’t like dancing or participating, but they just wanted to be with their boyfriend dancing weirdly off to the side. That was, in their opinion, a whole lot more fun than a bunch of random strangers dancing way too close to them (and triggering future vision) while dancing. Pride was supposed to be fun after all, not overwhelming with visions. And it was fun honestly. Zach had disappeared to get drinks and when he returned, Teddy kissed him on the cheek quickly. “Guess what, nerd?”

Name
Lila Teddy King
Height
5′0
Age in Story
19
Birthplace
Tuscon, Arizona
Hair (color, length, style)
Black, long & curly, but generally poofs out as an afro so unless their hair gets super wet, it’s usually cute af
Race/Nationality
African American
Regional Influences
Southern California, country life
Accent (voice, style of speech, slang, signature words/phrases)
They speak like they never left the 90′s... Even though they weren’t even born in or anywhere near the 90′s. They say things like “rad” and “dope” to express excitement and/or awe
Religion
Hellenistic Polytheism (mostly just to freak people out)
Marital Status
Unmarried, dating Zach Acosta @zachacosta and honestly, low-key in love with him already
Scars/Other Notable Physical Attributes
Teddy’s got quite a few scars along their arms and on their back from less than stellar foster parents. They try to cover them up with distracting clothing so people’s attention to focus on them too long. Teddy’s hair is also quite noticeable, it’s one of the first thing that’s seen on them.
Handicaps (physical, emotional, mental)
They’re always afraid that they won’t be enough for anyone in their life. They’re afraid that they won’t be able to save anyone from doing bad things/being bad people. They’re always frozen when they know the future and know they can stop it or just let it happen (usually this results in bad things happening).
Athletic? Inactive? Overall health?
Extremely active. They have started vigilante training with Finn Winchester and Kelli Byrd, learning how to fight and defend themself from dangerous people.
Style of Dress
They wear crop tops with jokes on them (or sarcastic sayings) & high waisted jeans. They wear all black converse as well and very colorful striped socks. In colder weather they make sure to have a sweater of some sort (usually a very ugly one, with obnoxious patterns and colors) and a hat to keep their head warm.
Favorite Colors
Black, silver, and royal purple
How does character feel about appearance?
Teddy gets uncomfortable some days because they don’t feel like their body is really their body. It doesn’t feel like that’s the body they should have and they try to hide under sweaters or bind their chest to avoid feeling anymore uncomfortable than they should. But they do love their hair and they love their facial features, especially their eyes.
Any siblings?
Spencer Carmona – foster brother. Veronica “Ronnie” Augello – foster sibling Josh Kovak – basically an older brother
Relationship with parents?
–Doesn’t know mom or dad, doesn’t want to know mom or dad. They know what their parents look like though and other assorted facts about them despite that though, curiosity and all that –They did love their foster mom, Deb Augello, she made Teddy feel safe and secure and like they were her own child.
Memories about childhood?
Teddy vividly remembers when they were twelve years old one of their foster father had hit them and started to make fun of them for saying that they weren’t a girl. Their dead name was thrown around and every time they heard it, it was like a punch to the gut, though that might’ve been because with one of the times it was said they actually did receive a punch to the gut.
They had pushed this memory far back in their mind but it was recently brought back to the surface by Zach touching their shoulder and their retrocognition acting up at just that moment.
Educational background? (Street smart? Book smart?)
They’re extremely street smart, they grew up looking after themself and others around them and once they ran away they had to learn to how to fend for themself. Teddy knows how to trick, scam, and defend themself .
Work Experience
They have limited retail work experience, when they were 16 and new in Pansaw they lied about their work experience so they could scrounge together some extra money.
Most of their “work” experience does come from the gang they used to help out though. They’d write detailed essays/reports on how a situation was going to turn out and when was the best time to run from it to ensure their safety and speedy getaway.
Where does the character live now? Describe home. (Emotional atmosphere & physical)
Teddy lives in a small apartment in the Lompico district of Pansaw. It’s a one room (plus a bathroom) apartment that’s carefully split into precise areas, despite the fact that they spend most of their time in the bedroom/living room area of their apartment. It’s a calm place, but it tends to feel lonely to Teddy. Even though they are someone who enjoys spending time alone, they really enjoy being around people and the fact that their apartment feels lonely when it’s just them there is sad and uncomfortable for them.
Neat or messy?
They keep a very neat living space, they don’t like messes just because they lived in foster homes that kept terrible messes and it brings back bad memories. The space around their bed tends to get messy with clothes but they try to clean it up as soon as they can.
Sexuality
Demisexual, Biromantic
Morals
Very morally gray, they believe in doing whatever to help those in need no matter the consequence.
Activities
– Vigilante training – Hanging out on the roof of Zach’s apartment and doing whatever – Reading YA novels – Hanging out with Seth or Josh – Going to the beach and just staring at the ocean, it helps them relax
Friends? Pets?
Josh Novak, Seth Harper, Zach Acosta, and Giovanni Keegan Di Vincenzio
Teddy has stolen a dog from a crappy home before but was persuaded to take the dog to an animal shelter so it could find a better home.
They would very much like a cat though.
Enemies? Why?
Teddy doesn’t have any enemies necessarily, there are definitely people that they don’t like being around and would rather not exist. Most of those people are from their past though and mostly forgotten, they try and keep only the good in their life.
Basic Nature
They’re very blunt and honest with those around them. They do their best to be kind to those who deserve it, but they don’t take shit from people. If they get hurt/angry because something that someone has done, Teddy tells them that they’ve been hurt and that it wasn’t okay they were hurt
Personality Traits
Clever, resourceful, self-reliant, impulsive, reckless, devious, self-indulgent, and sarcastic
Strongest/Weakest Traits
Teddy’s strongest trait is that they’re self-reliant. Their whole life they’ve needed to look after themselves and others who needed their help.
Their weakest trait is that they’re impulsive, they make choices without thinking about the consequences despite being able to see the future.
What do they fear?
They fear losing Zach and Seth. Those two are the people that they’re closest too and they couldn’t imagine life without them. And they fear that when
What are they proud of?
They’re proud of the fact that they lived in Pansaw alone and taking care of themself for three years. They’re also just proud of the fact that they live in Pansaw. They’re proud that they’ve made it this far in life despite every odd (and every outcome of the future that they can see) being against them.
Outlook on life
Teddy’s outlook on life is very poor. They see all the terrible things people do and all the terrible things that can happen and might happen in the world. They try and keep in mind that not everyone is terrible but it’s hard because of how terrible everything they’ve seen is.
Ambitions
They want to be happy.
Polictics
Liberal Hippie SJW
How do they see themselves?
Teddy sees themself as weak and unimportant. And while they’re trying to do better, they’re not doing the best they can do and it hurts them that they can’t do more. They know it’s just part of life that things feel helpless, but their whole life has felt helpless.
How are they seen by others?
Teddy’s seen as small and unthreatening. They come off as angry and loud most of the time but once people actually get to know Teddy, they’re seen as a soft and very caring soul that just wants to do some good.
Do I (the writer) like this person? Why? Why not?
I love Teddy, I think they’re incredibly relatable because they’re scared but they’re swallowing their fear and trying to be brave for those who rely on them. They want to do good but they’re not even sure if what they’re doing is the “right” thing to do.
Will readers like/dislike this person?
Readers won’t like that Teddy doesn’t use their power to the best of their ability. Teddy is scared of their powers and what it might reveal about their life or the fate of Pansaw, they make a point to avoid using their powers.
Reaers will like that they’re just like any other 19-year-old out there, scared and lost and confused.
Most Important Thing About Them
The most important thing about Teddy is that, despite their blunt and rude disposition, they really do care about those who are close to them deep down. They’d do anything to keep them safe from harms way.
Present Problem
They’re trying their best to do ‘good’ for Pansaw but the bad parts of them are nagging at them to go back to the easy thing and just continue being a do nothing. Joining the heroes was a big step for them and so they’re hoping that they can figure out how to better control their powers, and how to use those powers to benefit the city.
How it will get worse
Teddy’s not sure how that’s going to get worse, there are many routes this could go down. They’re hoping though that they won’t have to see Finn Winchester back in C.A.R.M.A. or that themself and Fel will be the only heroes left protecting the city from crime. And they’re praying they never have to fight Zach either, but the future is tricky and scary and sometimes the most vivid visions are the ones that are more prone to happen...
Their goals in this story?
– Find happiness and keep it – Do what’s right for Pansaw. – And marry Zach maybe.
What traits will help/hurt them in achieving this goal?
Their impulsiveness will aid them in some of their more reckless decisions that will lead to their (hopefully) inevitable happiness.
What makes them different from similar characters?
I think they’re unique because while there are characters with low outlooks on life, their entire life has been low and they’re trying their best to do what’s “right.”
Why will readers remember this character vividly?
Readers will remember this character because they’re young and scrappy, they know exactly what they want in life as well even if they’re not forthcoming about it. And while not all the problems they face in life are common, people can still find Teddy relatable.

The Spirit of Christmas, or Whatever ;; Zach & Teddy
Teddy wasn’t sure what was really happening right then. It didn’t seem like a date but then again, they were terrible at picking up social cues. Neither them or Zach really had plans for Christmas Eve, or actual Christmas, and so they had agreed to hang out and something about this time just seemed like there was more. They had agreed to grab pastries from The Rose Bakery in West Stone as well as hot chocolate. They were going to star gaze and exchange presents and it was definitely not a date.
But they were sitting under the stars and sharing a blanket and Teddy was staring at Zach and studying all his features and everything about him was soft. They knew he didn’t think he was soft, and to anyone else, Zach wasn’t soft. But because of how close they had gotten and because of Teddy’s feelings for him... Zach was soft. He was soft and Teddy loved that he was soft. They had been joking and just having a good time the whole night, Teddy had been trying to point out stars (and distract Zach from the fact that he did not have his powers whatsoever currently) but they were failing miserably and had just ended up making up their own constellations. “Annd that one right there,” they started pointing it out some random shape in the sky, trying not to laugh, “that is Cofficus Krabbius.”

▲ (for zach again 👀)
▲ five time my muse thought about kissing yours, and the one time they did
THE FIRST TIME TEDDY THINKS THEY MIGHT KISS ZACH it’s outside Pillow Café and Teddy’s sipping on iced coffee like it’s the only thing keeping them alive and Zach’s got whatever convoluted, sugared up mess of a drink he has. They’re leaned up against the outside window and Teddy knows Zach is standing way closer than usual, does he even realize what he’s doing to them? Probably not, he can’t like Teddy like that after all. But he’s still so close, if Teddy stood up just a little straighter and leaned just a tiny bit forward they could kiss him. And they find themself unable to control their movements briefly but they start drinking their coffee again to stop it. They couldn’t kiss Zach! He was Zach.
THE SECOND TIME IT’S RAINING AND HE’S SO CLOSE but that’s exactly why it doesn’t happen. Teddy’s not letting their first kiss with Zach be so cliché. It’s pouring which is extremely uncommon for California, so Teddy chalks it up to some out of control meta that C.A.R.M.A. hasn’t found yet. Zach’s got his arms around Teddy and they’re huddled against him and they feel a little gross because everything is sticking to their body. All their clothes, their backpack, their binder, everything feels awful. But with Zach’s arms around them, they feel safe somehow. They don’t even hate water, they love it, but everything about this random rainstorm was just uncomfortable and unexpected and unwanted. Except how close Zach is to Teddy and how warm he feels despite the cold November rain.
THE THIRD TIME IT ALMOST HAPPENS BECAUSE THEY’RE cuddled close in Teddy’s bed, his arm around their small body, and they’re resting their head on Zach’s shoulder. They’re pretending to watch the movie playing on the TV but actually, their focus is on Zach and his breathing and his lips... Teddy didn’t even realize they were holding their breath until Zach asked if they were okay because they had stopped breathing. They just nodded and pressed closer to him. Their cheeks felt hot and they felt so embarrassed that Zach had caught them staring like that. Or had he even noticed? They weren’t sure... But their gaze drifted back to where it was before and they could’ve sworn they were about to do it but something stopped them, something saying it wasn’t the right time.
THE FOURTH TIME, ZACH IS JUST TOO CLOSE AND HE’S not really helping with the whole ‘I don’t like Zach Acosta’ thing. They’re just eighteen and yes, they should probably be obsessed with the idea of a relationship and kissing but they were more obsessed with the idea of surviving and not being killed by their gang for being disloyal. But they were at Zach’s apartment and they had been sprawled out across his bed while they quizzed him on the different pieces of vocab for one of his crazy intense astrophysics classes. He was about to go into finals and Teddy didn’t like being away from him because they had grown attached and way too comfortable being practically glued to his side. As they said he got another phrase correct, they found themself almost touching noses with him and the could feel their heart beating in their throat. “Maybe we should take a break...”
THE FIFTH TIME TEDDY’S REALLY WONDERING IF THE UNIVERSE is purposefully testing their patience. They’re at a party and Teddy doesn’t know why they’re at a party but that’s where they’ve ended up. But then they remembered that Zach was dragged along by one of his classmates and Teddy didn’t want him to be uncomfortable so they said they were going with. The party wasn’t... Too bad. It was nice house, there were Christmas lights hung up all over the place and other college kids in 90′s gear and early 2000′s clothes not much unlike Teddy. They fit in at least, which was nice. And they were sure they dealt to some of these kids. But they didn’t care about them, they cared about how they had accidentally gotten knocked right into Zach’s arms by one of these people, without an apology, and all they could think about was how soft Zach’s features were in this lighting and how stupidly kissable he looked. They had never had a thought like that in their fucking life and yet here they were, pressed up against the guy they liked and all they could do was stare, at least all he could do was stare back...
THE SIXTH TIME, THEY CAN’T HELP THEMSELF ANYMORE and they decide that the worst that could happen is that Zach just gets really confused and runs away. But he’s standing there outside the diner, just... Looking like he does, with his dumb attractive face and his dumb clothes that look dumbly good on him. It’s three in the fucking morning and they both wanted milkshakes and cheesy fries, that’s why they had agreed to meet up at the diner in the first place. Zach was standing outside the diner and he was being lit up by the neons and fluorescents spilling through the diner windows. Teddy’s impulses and the lack of sleep had gotten the better of them. They got to Zach and their arms were around his neck and before he could even say anything they were kissing, Teddy was actually kissing Zach and he was kissing them back and they were both nervous and it was obvious but it was happening, it was something Teddy had dreamed about for months and now... It was finally happening. They pulled away and they were grinning widely at him, “okay,” they were a little bit out of breath, “does your stomach hurt?”

♫ (for zach 👀)
♫ five times my muse swears it’s not a date, and the one time it maybe is.
1 ;; Teddy swears it’s not a date. It can’t be a date. Zach doesn’t think it’s a date, they shouldn’t think it’s a date. So they don’t. All they’re doing with him is going to the fucking grocery store. It’s simple. It’s lame. Nothing about it is traditionally coded as a “date” but the thing about Teddy and Zach is they aren’t exactly traditional anyway… But it’s not a date. Teddy doesn’t have feelings for Zach. He’s a friend. He’s a really good friend. They like him, but only as their friend. That’s it. That’s it.
2 ;; There’s a spot in Biodome Park that does old movie nights and Teddy says they should go. By some miracle, Zach agrees and they can’t help but smirk to themself about it all. They’ve noticed that since they met Zach, he’s gotten softer. But only with them, which they’re perfectly okay with. They want Zach to be soft with them. But not because they want to date him or anything. The movie night is just friends hanging out, that’s just what they are. They’re just friends hanging out. That’s it. That’s all Teddy wants to be. They can’t handle a relationship and Zach doesn’t even like them in that way anyway.
3 ;; Zach says something that makes them think maybe... Maybe this time is a date. But they quickly push those thoughts out of their mind. It’s not a date. Zach is not their boyfriend. They’re not his... Whatever they’d be. They’re just Teddy and he’s just Zach. This is just a regular 3 A.M. diner meet up. To do homework no less. They’re just going to order a bunch of appetizers and share them and do their fucking homework. Honestly, it’s almost as lame as the grocery store date-- not that the grocery store date was a date. None of these were dates. They were just friends! They were just friends who hung out and enjoyed each others company, they were not a romantic comedy or anything.
4 ;; It was getting harder to deny that their hangouts weren’t dates. They were holding hands, they cuddled, they were just... So close. They were so close and Teddy was so scared what would happen if anything happened. They had grown too attached to Zach now and they were afraid that they could lose him if they ever admitted they might like him. This time the ‘totally-not-a-date’ was just in Zach’s apartment so conceivably, it wasn’t a date. But it was also the first time they’d been in his apartment. That they could remember. They had also come over unannounced which helped with the whole not a date thing. But it didn’t help that they came over so they could see Zach because they fucking missed that idiot even though it had only been a day since they had last hung out.
5 ;; Teddy checks the time on their phone and it reads 2:41 A.M. and their head is rested on Zach’s chest and his chest is rising and falling slowly. Everything is soft, everything is slow, everything feels right, and they don’t want to admit that. They know the moment they do, they know the moment they let that feeling solidify things will get hard again and they don’t need that. Things don’t need to be all relationship-y and date-y. They weren’t dating Zach, they just... Maybe really, really liked him and maybe liked the idea of dating him.
6 ;; They’re walking along the beach and Teddy’s holding Zach’s hand a bit tighter than they normally would and they were scared of that. It wasn’t a date. It didn’t feel like a date. But that’s what they had told themself every single time they hung out with him. Everything just felt right with Zach and that was terrifying. Just walking and holding hands shouldn’t... Feel like this, should it? Before they could even think of stopping themself, the words are out of their mouth, “this is kind of a date...” They mumbled, thankful that there was a very large possibility that Zach just couldn’t hear their words over the waves crashing against the shore. But... Deep down they knew better than that.
