Teddy was hanging on the edges of the Pride Party, not that they didn’t like dancing or participating, but they just wanted to be with their boyfriend dancing weirdly off to the side. That was, in their opinion, a whole lot more fun than a bunch of random strangers dancing way too close to them (and triggering future vision) while dancing. Pride was supposed to be fun after all, not overwhelming with visions. And it was fun honestly. Zach had disappeared to get drinks and when he returned, Teddy kissed him on the cheek quickly. “Guess what, nerd?”

zachacosta:
Admittedly, he was familiar with how clairvoyance worked – his partner had that ability, for god’s sake. Even so, it was a little more than slightly annoying to be detected so easily, especially when his late-night task was to bring them in. “Know that with your fancy future-seeing powers, too?” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He sounded childish and he knew it, but with how late it was and how much he didn’t want to complete his mission, he felt he’d earned that right. “Yeah, yeah, you saw me coming with your whack ass powers and ruined my ambush,” he continued, sighing. “But… that doesn’t change anything. Look, we both know why I’m standing here. You can make this easier on me and come quietly, or…” He trailed off, grimacing. Something about them just made him not want to fight – maybe it was just how defiant he’d been lately? “Or we can do this the hard way and you can force me to drag you back bruised up.”
“Whack ass powers?” Teddy couldn’t help but laugh at his comment, “jeez, can’t get anymore 90′s than that, can we?” Their mood had shifted from nervous about Zach finding out to pure amusement of the situation. Zach was so close to finding out Teddy was Oracle and they couldn’t keep their chill. Even with the threat of being dragged back to C.A.R.M.A., because they knew once Zach found out (which was inevitable at this point) that he wouldn’t do it. And they figured there was no harm in having fun with the situation. “Okay, alright, say I come with you willingly... What would you do once you found out who I am?”

Finn visibly cringed at Teddy’s answer, instinctively dropping his gaze. Even if they were trying to hide it, he could feel the judgment once he dropped the “former agent” bomb. It was something he’d gotten used to over the years, even when he’d been in C.A.R.M.A. “It––it wasn’t by choice,” he mumbled in defense, momentarily picking at his fingernails. He bit at his bottom lip for a moment before managing a small smirk. “Trust me, I’m not leaving here by choice,” he said, glancing back up at Teddy. “I’m not planning on ending up back there any time soon.”
“I can believe that...” Teddy sighed heavily and sank back into their chair, their eyes trained on their cup of ramen like it was going to get up and walk away. It took them a moment to wrap their mind around what they had just seen, and what they could do. “Y’know,” they finally said after what must’ve felt like ages, “that was something else. I wish Ihad more control though, y’know? Over when I can do that. Cause that was some real fucking luck that I can share visions with people, but again, can’t control when the visions come.”

Cade smiled. “No, I guess sitting on fire escapes isn’t too troublesome.” She laughed despite herself and opened her window all the way. “Climb on in, if you want. I don’t have anything to do tonight but clean the apartment.”
“I do my best not to cause trouble anymore,” Teddy laughed as well. They were taken aback by the offer, almost dropping the baseball bat off the fire escape. “Oh uh-- are you sure? I mean-- I can just be on my way, I don’t want to be a bother or anything. Especially if you’re cleaning, I know people can be very specific about that.”

Cade glanced back into the apartment and crossed her arms. She supposed that was a good point. She shook her head quickly when the Oracle continued. “No, no, if you don’t have anything to do… Any hell to raise,” she joked, “why don’t you stay? You can sit on my fire escape all you want.”
“I’m not the one that goes around raising hell,” Teddy laughed, making sure their mask was covering their face well enough for a moment. They didn’t mean casual conversation while they were all dressed up as Oracle, and nothing was happening, but they “I just go around stopping what I can. But uh-- I can, yeah. If you’re okay with that. I really didn’t mean to intrude in anyway.”

zachacosta:
Work had never been enjoyable for him, but late-night patrolling had to be one of his least favorite assignments. It wasn’t necessarily because the job was boring, although the recent declines in meta activity had certainly made things less action-packed, but because it meant that regardless of what he was doing the next day, he was going to be exhausted. In this case, he had a final the next morning ( an early one, at that ) and apparently CARMA didn’t have anyone else available for the job – or at least, nobody they wanted to replace him with. Maybe it was continued torture.
To make matters worse, his current project was tracking down one of the heroes.
By the time his smart eye had finally caught up with someone who might’ve fit the bill, he was already more than ready to turn back and curl up in his bed – or better yet, on Teddy’s couch. Still, he had to follow through on his mission whether he liked it or not, and thus he found himself invisible and creeping up behind the semi-robed figure, thinking that from this angle they looked remarkably like his partner. He was so caught up in that, in fact, that he almost hadn’t noticed that he’d been detected, reacting several moments later than he wanted… and stupidly, at that.
“What the fuck? How’d you know I was there?” he asked before he could stop himself, flicking into view with his arms crossed over his chest. Oh shit.
As soon as he spoke, Teddy recognized the voice and their whole body froze up. What were they going to do? They knew Zach wouldn’t turn them in, but they also didn’t want to reveal their secret just yet. It was bad, it could get Zach in trouble, and they wouldn’t be able to live with themself if he got hurt because of them. They stood up slowly and pulled their hood over their face more before turning to face him. “Well, again, clairvoyant. I feel like you’d be familiar with the term,” they explained. Teddy’s grip on their baseball bat loosened though, knowing they wouldn’t have to fight Zach, they weren’t going to let that happen. “Don’t get me wrong, you did great, subtly and sneaking and all that, but uh-- yeah. I saw you coming.”

Nothing that Teddy was saying was really comforting in the moment. From what he was understanding, their vision of the future seemed to be pretty fucking clear, and that was most likely not a good sign for the vigilante hoping to avoid ever wearing a C.A.R.M.A uniform again. He felt numb almost, nervously running a hand through his hair as he tried to think of anyway that this future could be avoided. The very thought of working for C.A.R.M.A under Sal Bradbury again had his stomach twisting and chest tightening in anxiety.
“It’s…complicated,” he started off quietly, finally glancing up at Teddy again. “I actually used to work for C.A.R.M.A.”
There was so much rattling around in Teddy’s head about all this. Their mentor was a former C.A.R.M.A. agent. It was just something they had some brief suspicions about but never dug into to confirm. He’s just standing there, not looking at him, and they’re finding it increasingly harder to look at him. “Yeah, a lot’s complicated, Finn,” they finally said, trying to swallow their judgement. They know no one joins C.A.R.M.A. willingly. Well-- most meta’s don’t at least. “Just... I-I can’t make you promise not to leave or do anything dumb, just... Be careful?”

soundofcadence:
Cade was singing to herself, in a moment of courage and relaxation, as she walked around her apartment cleaning up. She had missed singing, she realized recently, and after all these years and a little practice (courtesy of C.A.R.M.A, ironically) she wanted to step outside her comfort zone again. So she was singing. And humming. And generally jamming out to some tune in her head.
But that abruptly stopped when she walked past her window and saw someone sitting on her fire escape with their back to her. A little bolt of fear urged her to grab the nearest weapon-a massive book she used as a table when she wanted to eat dinner in front of the TV-and cautiously advanced towards the figure, holding the book high. And then they spoke.
“Y’know, it’s a really bad idea to try and sneak up on a clairvoyant that has a baseball bat..” Cade poked her head all the way out the window and saw the bat, and then realized who this was. The Oracle.
“No way,” she muttered under her breath, lowering the book. And then she shook out of her awe. “Well, maybe it’s a bad idea to sit on people’s fire escapes with baseball bats. That can seem a little threatening.”
As Cade lowered her ‘weapon’, Teddy couldn’t help the laugh that escaped their lips. Of course they were going to apologize for intruding on her space, it would have been rude not too. But first.. “Not really a defense, but when I got here, the lights in your house were off so I assumed you were out for the night, nothing in the signs said you’d be back for a while,” they explained as they turned around to face the other. “I am sorry though, I can leave if you want. I promise I’m not raising any hell tonight, things are kind of inactive anyway.” They winked at her, wondering if their eyes were even visible under their hood and through their mask.

zachacosta:
Zach wasn’t normally known for coveting anyone’s affection, but in that moment he was glad he had Teddy’s. It’d been far too long since anyone had said anything kind to him, said anything that implied he was wanted, and if he hadn’t been so focused on keeping his cool ( as much as possible ) he might’ve teared up. The only thing that kept them back, in fact, was that he’d already wasted too many on the likes of CARMA’s top re-educators ( read: torturers ) and didn’t think he had any left to shed even if he’d wanted to seem more vulnerable than he already was. “God, you have no idea how good it feels to hear you say that,” he mumbled, his expression softening as they took his face into their hands. “Or maybe you do, I don’t–”
He cut off as they suddenly stiffened, and realizing what was happening, he quickly wiggled out of their grasp and away from them – he didn’t know if it would help or not, but he hoped it did. The last thing he wanted was for Teddy to accidentally dig through his freshest memories of CARMA. They didn’t need to see him like that, through his eyes or otherwise. The fact that they’d already known was troubling enough ( had they seen it? ) and the idea of them being forced into one of his memories through his point of view was almost too much to bear. Unfortunately, Teddy’s powers didn’t much care what either of them thought, because it’d taken them there, anyway.
When they ( finally ) seemed to come back from their vision, he scooted closer to them again, grimacing at the horror that seemed to break their expression – they’d seen. He didn’t need any sort of explanation to know that, and the sympathy they expressed only proved him right. “It’s… you know, it happens,” he mumbled, leaning back against them again, more carefully this time. “I’m sorry you had to like, you know… see that.” He wouldn’t wish being there on his worst enemy – not that he needed to, given where they all were. “I’m… I’m fine, I promise.”
There was a moment where Teddy really didn’t know what to do with themselves. They were afraid if they went to touch Zach in anyway again, there’d be another vision. But they couldn’t stop themself, they needed to hold him tightly and tell him how much they loved him, he needed to know that htey were there for him no matter what. No matter what.
“Don’t apologize, please...” They whispered softly before taking his hand in their own once more. They gave it a tight squeeze, knowing that Zach really needed them. He had been through so, so much and Teddy just wished there was a way for them to make all that go away. They leaned against him, pressing their palms flat together. “You can talk about anything with me,” they said softly. “Just so you know.”

“I wasn’t aware I was sneaking up on you,” he said with amusement obvious in his tone, leaning against the fire escape he’d wandered up. It didn’t belong to him, of course, but the life form sitting atop it was too interesting to pass up. As he’d gotten closer to them, their meta status had been revealed – from more than just words – and had he wished it he could’ve grasped any and all information on their physical and mental well-being. Despite his gifts, he more often preferred to actually converse with people ( particularly those who had a decent chance of being pure ) rather than rely on his mutation, and thus instead of reaching out to gather information he’d decided to make his presence more obvious. A kinder gesture, truly.
He glanced down at them, a curious glint in his eyes. “You look like someone on a mission,” he remarked casually, looking over their costume-esque gear. “Am I wrong?” He doubted he was, but without them claiming their purpose there wasn’t much he could do but assume – it was something he was good at, but nothing was infallible. Especially not when it came to something as uncertain as purpose, a lesson he’d long since taken to heart. After a moment’s pause, he continued with, “Is clairvoyance the only gift you have?” While he wasn’t out on a recruitment mission, he always did like to have an idea on the metahumans he was dealing with, especially when it came to people with so much potential.
“It’s sneaking if you’re creeping like you were,” Teddy shrugged, without turning around to look at the man. They didn’t need to look at him to know what he looked like after all. They would have to look at him to fully see his aura, but the bubbling red they could see out of the corner of their eyes was enough to tell them they didn’t want to know more about it. Their skin was already crawling because of it. “More like I’m waiting for a mission, but I guess that’s one itself,” they hummed softly.
Teddy didn’t want to share more about themself with this man, he was being nosey in business that really wasn’t his. Between that and how uncomfortable they already were from his presence, their fingers curled tighter around the handle of their baseball bat, getting ready to hit him in the shins. “I’ve got many gifts," they said, their voice is soft but the harsh edge in it is obvious enough.

joshkovak:
Despite the grin that stretched across their face, Josh remained unconvinced that it wasn’t fabricated. What if they hated him? He’d up and ditched without so much as a word, after all, and while the circumstances had hardly been something he could be blamed for… he doubted they knew that. All they probably knew was that he’d vanished without a trace, without a call, without anything more than an empty apartment and no sign of whether he’d return. Would they be able to forgive him for something like that? Did he even want them to forgive him for something like that?
Did he deserve it?
His thoughts raced with anxiety, his heart pounding in his chest as he tried to figure out something to say, some way to beg them not to just reject him, but the most that he managed to do was let out a sort of anxious squeak. Regardless, they seemed to take his silence as an opportunity to speak, and while paranoia still lurked at the back of his mind, they’d managed to ease some of his worries. Stumbling ( what a clutz ) to his feet, he offered the least anxious smile he could manage and nodded. “Y-yeah, yeah… you can– you can, uh, hug me if you want,” he answered, more than a little thankful that they’d actually missed him. In spite of their friendship, he always assumed he was easily forgotten. “I, uh… I missed you too…” He trailed off, biting his lip as they continued.
Was he back? He hoped so…
“I– no… I mean! I mean– yes, I’m… I’m back,” he sputtered, hating himself for being so incompetent with words, especially with a topic so serious. “I, uh, I’m… I’m actually back.”
After months without Josh, they were just glad to have their best friend back in their life. They didn’t even care that he had been gone for so long. What mattered was that he was back. When he gave them permission to hug, they went in and held him tightly, even though it must not have seemed too tight to him since they were small and their strength was limited. “Try not to just disappear again? Or at least, try to say good-bye next time, alright?” They asked softly, looking up at Josh with a pleading gaze. “I’m not going to make you promise anything, but I’d like knowing if you weren’t like... Going to completely disappear.”

Hope laughed a little. She had to admit that the thought had crossed her mind as well. “Well I don’t know if we’re quite as cool as the Incredibles but…we try.” She sat in her chair and turned back to look at Teddy catching their fidget. Sometimes the heroes could be a little intimidating and Hope knew that. When she had first started helping it was the same way. Hope tilted her head and smiled at them but didn’t comment on the movement. Drawing attention to it always made it worse in her opinion. “The spiel, as you put it, that I give is usually a bit different. My job isn’t to make sure you know why you’re here. You know why you’re here or you wouldn’t have come. You know what you’re doing and you gotta trust us to do the same. My job is to make sure that you go out safely and you come home in one piece.” And to put you back together when you don’t, she added in her head. There was a reason they called her Mirror and it wasn’t just her powers. “So the only thing I say is make sure and listen to me, I take care of mi familia.”
“I don’t think anyone is quite as cool as The Incredibles,” Teddy said with a soft laugh. They nodded along slowly while Hope explained her job to them. “Cool, that sounds rad. The most important job on the team, I’m guessing? And alright, I do my best to listen. Unless y’know, I see a better path of action and all that. It’s kind of how I’ve been living my whole life after all.”
