OC Sunday: Mic Dhorhil, the grumpiest bartender on Coruscant

A jaded Devaronian bartender with a complicated relationship to the Pyke syndicate. He absolutely judges your drink order. Don’t be fooled by his sardonic and guarded exterior: he might keep a slugthrower behind the bar (just in case), but he feeds the stray tooka who lives in the alley behind 79’s every night after he closes.

The face of a man who just had to clean up the used condoms from the floor of the refreshers at 79's. He is begging people, for the love of the Force, to use the trash compactor. Art by me 🩵

Personal history: 

Mic was born and raised on Oba Diah, the son of single mom Branna Dhorhil. He never met his father, and Branna never talked about him. When Mic started secondary school, he met Draig, the young Zabrak who would become his lifelong best friend. Draig was small for his age, and he had lost his mother very suddenly only a few months before. Because of this, an older bully made the mistake of thinking he would be an easy target. Unfortunately for the bully, Mic was not small for his age. He stepped in and kicked the bully’s ass, with the result that both Mic and Draig were suspended.

Draig was distraught at the prospect of having to tell his father, Oisin, what had happened, when Oisin was already dealing with so much following the death of his wife. Branna was working the night shift at the time, so she was home. She recognized Draig immediately, as she worked with Oisin at the Oba Diah spaceport. She patched up the boys and got them a snack, then commed Oisin to explain what had happened. Oisin came to collect Draig, and they both stayed for dinner.

From that point on, the boys were inseparable, and the Dhorhil house was basically Draig’s second home. They formed a short-lived punk band, The Horny Devils, which played shows in Oisin’s garage once a week for their legions of adoring fan (it was Branna. Branna was their legions of adoring fan).

When Mic and Draig were in their second year of secondary school, Oisin collapsed at work. He was diagnosed with an aggressive illness, and the treatment was prohibitively expensive due to the Pyke syndicate’s monopoly on all medical goods and supplies on Oba Diah. The boys, being enterprising teens with endless self-confidence and very little impulse control, hatched a plan to break into the Pyke compound and steal the medication.

It did not go well.

They made it out, barely. They managed to get the medication and take it to Oisin, but unfortunately, they also got caught on security holovids. The Pykes, being the Pykes, didn’t take too kindly to being robbed by a couple of punk kids, and they put a bounty on both boys. The first hunter that found them cornered them in the Dhorhils’ home. Draig lost an eye to the hunter’s vibroblade before Branna managed to disarm and kill the bounty hunter with his own knife. 

They fled Oba Diah that night. Branna smuggled Oisin and the boys into the Oba Diah spaceport and stole a shuttle, then took them all to Coruscant to disappear and start over in the lower levels. Branna never told Oisin or the boys what she did to smooth things over with the Pykes, but eventually, the bounty was lifted. Nevertheless, Mic and Draig continued to give the Pykes a wide berth.

Mic started working as a busboy to help Branna while they struggled financially. Eventually, he worked his way up to become a bartender, crafting cocktails in some of the hottest bars in the upper levels. He dreamed of starting his own traditional Devaronian pub, and to help save money for that goal, he started working the closing shift at 79’s every night after he finished up at his regular job. Eventually, he scraped together the funds to start his own place in the Entertainment District, but he continued to work the closing shift at 79’s to make ends meet. 

Personality:

In the dictionary, next to the definition of “done,” you will find the above holo of Mic. That being said, he has a spectacularly long fuse. He doesn’t tolerate harassment or bullies, and the fastest way to find out what he looks like when he’s annoyed is to fuck with his customers, coworkers, or family (and he includes Oisin and Draig in that category). He’s reserved and quiet, but he has a wicked sense of humor, if you’re lucky enough to be able to overhear his commentary. 

He has Opinions™ about certain drinks, and he might not say them out loud, but you can feel the judgment if you come in and order a Green Zygerrian (like he just keeps green cream on hand, what the kriff do you think this is, a dairy?).

Aside from his family, Mic tends to hold people at a distance. It takes a long time to gain his trust, and even longer for him to feel truly comfortable around someone. Having witnessed how his father’s absence impacted Branna, Mic is very, very guarded about romance. He needs to get to know someone very well and form a strong connection with them before he’ll consider getting physical. But once he’s in? He’s all in. No games, no messing around: he knows what he wants, and he’ll be very upfront about it. He just needs to be sure his prospective partner is on the same page before he lets himself get involved.

Due to his personal history with the crime syndicates (not to mention his family’s nebulous respect for the law), Mic has an innate distrust of authority in general and the police in particular. He keeps a low profile, but when the Corrie Guard comes to 79’s, he’s on full alert. Oddly enough, Commander Fox is one of his favorite customers. Maybe he feels a deep spiritual connection to the Marshal Commander’s exhausted ori’vod energy.

I don't talk enough about my MLWTBB OCs and I think that's a shame

in the first story, we have a Twilek Mom™ and her sassy Zabrak bestie who both work as sexy waitresses in a high-end restaurant. we have the restaurant's owner, who is literally just bedazzled Castor from Tron Legacy, and his trusty assistant who is the Chiss version of Severus Snape. there's also the villain, a corrupt but smooth Devaronian businessman obsessed with getting what he wants by any means necessary (he may or may not be faceclaimed as Tom Hiddleston, that's all I'm saying 👀). oh, and did I mention he's Roland Durand's uncle?? 🤭

then we have the Ord Mantell characters, who are seen throughout the rest of the series. there's a quirky Cathar who owns a pawn shop, likes shiny things, and has no regard for personal space. there's a grumpy architect droid who seems to only care about his work (despite that obviously not being the case 😜), and his friendly little BD droid assistant. he also has a rivalry with Tech and refers to him as his nemesis LOL. there's also a Godfather-like Besalisk who lives in the mountains and is an intimidating presence to everyone he meets... unless you're willing to play cards with him 😆. he also owns a giant mouse droid who does all his bidding; no one knows how it's able to do the things that it does because it's always done out of sight. there's even a smug, self-centered half-Mirialan who is constantly trying to woo my character, even after she's CLEARLY been taken. oh and I can't forget the sweet old lady who runs a fruit stand and is always being nosey about my character's relationship with Hunter ROFL

some other characters in the story are a rich, stuck-up businesswoman from Hosnian Prime, and her two bumbling assistants, who are responsible for finally getting Hunter and my character together (no joke). and I can't forget my character's reprogrammed OOM Battle Droid who is super sweet but quite ditzy and frequently gets into scraps with Echo haha

and there will be more to come in the future... 😌

ran away from home and joined a crew of salvagers so they could see the galaxy

a salvager/pilot who owns her own ship. she and fitz are inseparable besties

a cheerful person who’s good at lifting scrap and making people feel at ease. has a lot of hobbies like knitting and making dolls, and loves to explain and teach people her crafts. made her living as a conwoman before she became a spacer

used to be a salvager with qai, fitz, and hurst but moved to coruscant in the past couple years. he likes to keep busy and meet new people so he has a lot of part time jobs, mostly serving in restaurants. (he ended up employed as a lounge singer at one place but he doesn’t tell his friends bc he thinks it’s embarrassing)

hurst loves him even though they didn’t spend much time together and gets excited to go back to coruscant and see him

qai’zel’s brother. they’re from a working family but reza has made himself rich as a “businessman”. he’s made a lot of important connections but is definitely in deeper with his business partners than he likes to think

has a biiig crush on welso. he watches this guy wipe down tables in coruscant’s greasiest diner like “pleeease let me wrap you in the finest silks”

grew up with hurst since infancy and was made hurst’s chief attendant when they grew up. kind of pushed into the role of the responsible one once hurst got fed up and started to rebel

she was the allstar of the royal guard training program and became hurst’s chief bodyguard. she took amisen under her wing bc she thinks he’s cute like a puppy. she’s gay and likes teasing trinne

Surprisingly, More Free Devaron’s Angels Adopts!

HEY Y’ALL, I’m back with more free Angels adopts! :D

Just like last time, these are essentially stock Angels (more info on that group can be found here, btw), which I’m giving out for free to anyone to use for and within the group! If you’d rather use them for something else, however, you can also pay the full price ($45) and get them for any other use. I’ll only accept money through PayPal, so please only ask to buy one if that works for you.

Once you claim your character, I’ll send you a version with no watermark, and you’ll be free to use them! Feel free to tweak their design however you want to—new outfits, minor physical changes, etc.—but if it’s all the same to you, please link back to my Tumblr blog if you post the image I give you anywhere.

The adopts are first come/first serve, but do be warned that, if you choose the non-Angel buyout option and you fail to pay within 24 hours, I will re-list the character.

Holy crystal craps!

So i made some art for our star wars ttrpg session. We played the last session on Saturday and holy shit it was intense!

It was set about a year after order 66, i was playing my boy Brass. Him and his lil twi'lek friend, socks, accidentally joined up with the droid, Di, the zabrak, Drukrou, the devaronian, Alea, and the ewok, arani, to try and win this contest to get a ship to get off kuat. We won! We got the ship! And as we were leaving the planet, a fucking star destroyer caught us and brought our ship aboard.

Being a clone commander I knew how a star destroyer worked, so i went to turn off the tractor beam, while up there an inquisitor showed up in the hanger to ruin our day, but i got a nat 20 and blew them the fuck up with a turret! Despite all the odds, we had both our pilots down so arani and brass had to try to fly us out, and neither of us could roll for shit, finally socks and alea got di and drukrou back up and they got us outta there and we survived!

It was amazing and fun and i hope that we play another star wars game soon!
