Author’s notes:

This is more or less the continuation of my previous doujin. I rewatched the anime, and I was infatuated that it features so many scenes that we didn't get from the original manga (Hiei was even only seen once in a tiny panel during the tournament...). So this doujin simply showcased my imagination of what (sfw) HieixKurama moments could happen, based on the anime.

I also received in depth inputs from the YYH fandom's discord about Hiei and Youko's complicated relationship, which I'm very thankful for.

A doujinshi cover I hallucinated after reading the “what if it was a non BL world” bonus comic from Zettai BL volume 5. After reading I thought the meeting of MC and Hatano was very much like that of Alice and the white rabbit. Alice Hatano is very moe… I guess I just wanted to draw that.

If I were to made a Hatano x MC doujinshi book I would love for the cover to be like this..! Or something

I always loved YusukexKeiko and KoenmaxBotan, but sometimes I ship YusukexBotan too😂. And I started to adore HieixKurama, they are amazing together, I love their respect and trust ♥️ and can't forget about our beautiful boy Kazuma with his dear Yukina, they are just so pure! I like the regular ships: KeikoxYusuke and KazumaxYukina. But, I have a hard time shipping Hiei and Mukuro. I know Togashi drew her thinking of a girl Hiei would date, but it's hard for me to picture them together. I love KuramaxHiei. I'm quite aware this ship will never happen in the canon work, but I like reading doujinshi of the two. Like you said, they are amazing together.

I kinda like BotanxKoenma. I was very surprised at the end of the manga by AyamexKoenma. I wasn't expecting that one. Sometimes, I also ship HieixBotan, give me BulmaxVegeta feelings XD. @grimtwin writes cool fanfics about hem.

Huhuh, BotanxShizuru would also be interesting. That ShizuruxSakyo thing from the anime was hard to swallow at first, but has grown on me.

1st art piece 🎨 Karasu and my avatar, his wife, named Sha "Yuri" Hargreaves. I'm gonna write and illustrate a webcomic/doujinshi about our romance someday, just been doing it in bits and pieces on my personal pages online, and otherwise mostly in private diaries based on my dreams and pseudo-hallucinations (I have depressive psychosis and a fantasy prone personality - i'm a total dreamer ♡) ... Karasu is also gonna be adapted into the original webcomics i've been writing for over 20 years with my brothers and best friend too! The story is basically the same for both, but slightly different cos one is original while the other is the YYH version: Karasu astral projects and begins to haunt Sha's dreams as she is a spiritually sensitive human (descended from faeries, mind you, on this note), and he coaxes her into reviving him from the vampyre tree Kurama had trapped him in, as Sha works with plants (in the original series, she is actually the Seasonal Spring Warrior too), and she ends up reviving him, and uses her healing abilities from being part faerie to help him, but has to go the extra mile and use her life force and blood transfusion to help the Crow recover all the way. This bonds them together, and they end up falling in love in the end. ♡ Here my avatar has blonde hair as I was bleaching and dying my hair blonde back then. :3

So anyone creative that writes or draws or what have you can tell you that everything actually is intentional, and by that I mean, every word you pick to write and every design or illustration you make is a choice. We make choices, we decide, and then those things are up for interpretation.

All of that is to say: I think these animators were kurahi shippers or something man, there's an interesting visual in these two episodes that happens repeatedly. pls don’t judge me for my intense meta bullshit that’s about occur lol

When Kaito is about to take Hiei’s soul, he looks down at him, and we see a violet colored flash in his glasses.

After he takes his soul, it’s encased in that same shade of purple. We know from earlier episodes and later on when their souls are returned that souls don’t have a color, they’re just white/translucent, so that means Kaito color-coded the souls by his own volition. Purple for Hiei, blue for Botan, and yellow for Kuwabara.

What’s interesting is…this purple color/flashes of purple light don’t go away. They’re present during Kurama’s battle of wits with Kaito and their negotiation of the terms.

Now someone might say, “well Hiei’s soul is positioned on the rightmost side and the purple visually stands out better, it makes sense it would show, it doesn’t mean anything.” And perhaps they’re right, but I don’t think so.

Again, these things are intentional choices, regardless of whether or not what they mean is agreed upon. They chose to make Hiei’s that color, they chose to position it to the side, and they chose to use it for this visual effect.

Most important to note: this visual choice is only done for Hiei’s color, purple. There’s no ambient light in the room and it’s the exact same color, ergo very intentionally done. They don’t rotate between colors, they never show flashes of blue or yellow or all three—it’s only purple.

⬆️ here for example. Arguably we should be able to see the blue and yellow reflected in his glasses, too. But we don’t. Just that fuchsia color. Just Hiei’s soul.

So what does it mean (to me)?

I think it means that Hiei is most important to him, and somehow Kaito has clocked that. Hiei’s soul is the one reflected in Kaito’s glasses while they negotiate the rules of their game.

And it’s only reflected/shown in his eyes when he’s looking at kurama (other than Hiei prior to the soul stealing!), not anywhere in the room, which is what makes me think that Kaito knows how significant the relationship between Kurama and Hiei is. He (literally in a visual sense) can see it. These flashes happen the most/almost exclusively during this scene—as if he’s dangling Hiei’s soul specifically to bait Kurama into playing his game.

It’s symbolic of how meaningful the relationship is to him, because it’s shown like it’s the bargaining chip to make the game happen. When he taunts Kurama that he still hasn’t made his choice, the reflection is there again. The significance is only emphasized by the fact that it doesn’t happen with anyone else’s soul/color.

Additionally, I like that Kaito’s hand is hovering over Hiei’s soul when Kurama threatens to erase him from reality. I don’t think this is strong evidence or anything, but it compliments my theory here quite nicely lol.

Bonus (aka this doesn’t really have evidentiary support but hey it rolls with this pretty well): look at how mad Kurama is after Hiei’s soul is taken. Angry husband.

YYH Doujinshi

So apparently the fandom has been in a bit of a shit storm over posting doujinshi. I use to save some of it back in the day so I thought I would dig around on my computer to see if I could find them.

Whoo boy,

I have a bunch. Now my question would be if I should post them (the ones that people don’t already have posted, most of them have been translated, but some haven’t)

Because as I see it, doujinshi and art should be shared, not locked away. We should find the artists that created said pieces and give them credit, but to strip them off the internet completely just because the artist isn’t active anymore (or alive) is just plain dumb.

If I was inactive (or dead) I would hope that people could still get enjoyment out of something I made, even if I’m not interested in it anymore.

So if you have an older doujinshi that you can’t find, I’ll see if I have it. I’m not going to list them right now because there’s a bunch and I’m lazy. Lol

I do have several Hiei-Chan ones though
