Happy Friday the thirteenth to you! I hope you had a good day today! I got to pet a black cat so I'm very happy. Pet any cute fuzzies lately? -ywwa
Thank you! My friend Patrick has a wonderful, friendly cat that I got to pet last week, and I’ve been looking into getting one of my own now that I’ve moved in. I kind of want to wait until I get some more furniture, and I’m not sure where the litter box will go yet, and I don’t know what I’m going to do when I go out of town, but yesterday someone at work asked me whether I have a cat yet so I think I probably ought to speed my timeline up.

Ah, that's sad to hear. But getting through them to finish your degree is good. And having less of them. Are the all lecture classes? Are there any labs? I remember that writing papers were (is) terrifying.
Hello again! How has your first regular sunday of 2017 going? Check out Waltz of Wintry Borea by Andy Hargrave if you're looking for a quick listen
Hello hello, hope your day has gone well today! And that your readings and homework aren't a slog to get through. Anyway, todays YWWA post is brought to you by the letter M, for Mudskippers. Because there's why not have bouncy fish on land?
Hello! Sorry I have been very absent haven’t I. Most of my course are lectures, except for my capstone project, which I am doing this year despite the fact I am taking an extra year next year. We only really have a lab for my Space Hardware course, which is kind of nice. It’s a full year course so I’m already halfway through...the labs are very lengthy but I can usually dash off the report fairly easily when I apply myself lol.
I don’t have to write too many pares cause i’m in engineering but a lot of reports and also like design documents and proposals and stuff.
My Sunday was pretty good, I tutored a girl and got to talk about math for two hours which was fun! Also thank you so much for the song rec what a good!!
And today was a really good day, although I do have a headache now but I guess thats the price i must pay for having a good day once in a while lol.

I love Tamora Pierce's and Dianna Wynne Jones' work too! I used to watch Kiki's Delivery Service a lot, as well as Atlantis (okay, I still watch that a lot). I'll have to remember Bill Bryson, for the next time I have time to read for fun. Do you have a favorite YW book, character, or scene/moment from the series?
Oh man, I really do love all the YW books, characters, etc. Favorites though? Hmm. If I /had/ to pick a favorite book, it’d probably be either High Wizardry or Wizard’s Holiday, I guess. But that’s an oversimplification, really. There are so many great bits to all of the books.
I’ve always wanted to be Nita, so she’s probably my favorite? Maybe? (oh man, I’m so bad at absolutes). But when you get into favorite characterization it gets a lot more complicated. I love the way Dairine has matured in the latest book, I love having such strong non-wizard characters like Carmela and Harry (Harry and Neliad’s friendship is A+). Everything that is Ponch’s development, and so much more.
Definitely too many good scenes to even begin to try narrowing them down, so I’m gonna leave it at that!

*distant yelling intensifies until I'm right in front of you* aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I had a brain fart yesterday I'm so sorry. That sounds like a really cool specialty to have! Also, imagine YW wizards meeting HP wizards and being SO CONFUSED. Anyway, do you have a particular direction that you think the series will go in, or something you wish it would do next?
There’d be a lot of “You can’t just throw spells around willy-nilly like that! And what do you mean there are ‘dark wizards’? And how come you’ve never left Earth? What the heck’s a hippogriff?!”
I wish it would pick one or two of the awesome characters and concepts brought up in Games Wizards Play and stick with it! There was just SO MUCH in that book, I didn’t know what I was supposed to focus on, and at the end of it I couldn’t remember half the characters, which is disappointing ‘cause they were all so awesome and interesting and deserving of their own stories.

Hey Cousin~ Sorry for the radio silence, just started a class this week and it is hell on earth. Anyway, I'm gonna work super hard on your mix, but it might be a smidge late. I lost a lot of my music when my car got stolen last spring (a slightly long and oddly hilarious tale) So ima have to figure out some workarounds to not having an extensive CD/MP3 collection anymore
I completely understand, no worries.

Yeah no, that makes sense. May this transitional time be successful for you! I saw you mentioned on one of your recent posts that you like Vanessa Carlton - she's a favorite musician of mine as well, particularly for all the cool piano stuff she does (I play piano, so I notice it a lot :D) Do you have any particular favorite songs or albums by her? And what other music/musicians do you like? - ywwa
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhzN7-Q00KUI really love rabbits on the run as a whole, especially the aesthetic of this music vid. flowy dresses and foggy days is my platonic ideal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ0FlbeIFwE
recently I’ve been really into the x ambassadors, their short album the reason has a lot of feels that go with my transitional life stage rn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxNYTqtfdXw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR2sjPvELkk
and also this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVjSewMSVsM
I like a really really wide variety of things but i tend to latch onto one album or even one song and play it to death for a period of months
oooh I also love the hamilton mixtape, lukas graham, and also this song that is reallllllllly good for playing on repeat

Those are some tough resolutions! You're going to have to work the whole year to make them habits. And congratulations on your upcoming graduation! What kind of job do you want to get? -YWWA
I don’t really like the idea of habits. My schedule fluctuates so much, especially right now when I’m on a different rotation every 2-4 weeks, that trying to do anything /every/ day sounds like a pain. I think of my resolutions more as guides for malking choices. Be Kind, Be Enthusiastic, and Be Happy are the kinds of choices I want to make this year.
Thanks for the congratulations! I’m graduating from vet school, and I want to do small animal (dog and cat) medicine.

Good evening from your YW anon! I confess that I don't read a lot of YW fanfic. Some fictions inspire me to read and/or write fic, some don't; I sometimes joke that the better canon is written, the less likely it is that I'll want to write fic. I have, however, written a couple of short fics that crossed over with another canon DD herself is fond of... but I'll say no more lest I give myself away.
ahhhhh yes, nonny, i feel you 800% on the lesser need for fic, the better the canon is. (i have definitely had this conversation with some cousins—maybe you! but i forget now who they were, lol, so your identity is safe =P)
this is why i don’t read much nita- kit- or dairine-centric fic, bc we get so much good of them. but i love me some background characters who don’t get enough center-stage screentime, so i still get into it there, usually.
YW-verse crossovers are definitely fun, though. like, the only canons that can’t conceivably be crossed with YW are ones with their own too strongly established magical systems. but i have, if not actually written, then brainstormed ordeal fic for nearly every other fandom i’ve been active in. (fitzsimmons in agents of shield are wizardly partners, i will fight you.)

Damn, I just realized I disappeared for a whole week. Super sorry. I came down with strep throat and uhh, suffice to say it was not fun. But anyway! Calligraphy! I do a lot of things--recently got myself some tombow markers, which are good for a whole different kind of calligraphy, so that's cool. And I have a definite fondness for gothic fonts. I would send you some photos but I'm not sure how to do that without compromising anonymity? Hmm. And ooh, cool on the fountain pens
If you ever get around (in all your free time, I'm sure) to trying calligraphy, I'd recommend Steadler calligraphy markers and this font book called the Calligrapher's Bible. Well, that's a bit more of an investment, seeing as it's got over 100 fonts, but it's also AMAZING. I haven't actually done a ton of calligraphy in awhile--I used to be much better at it, but I'm trying to get back in practice. And calligraphing quotes for friends' presents is always fun
You'll notice I'm making up for lost time by sending a ton of responses/questions at once. Anyway, I'm actually the opposite of you! I'm from LA, and I go to school at Berkeley. So, you know, far be it from me to accuse you of being young or bright-eyed. Anyway, tell me about your special someone? (Assuming you want to, obviously.) But I always think it's cute to hear people talk about the people they like.
Also--BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What did you do for your birthday? Anything fun? Any good presents? What's your favorite type of cake? Mine is chocolate--the more chocolate stuff in the cake, the better--which is actually kind of tragic, because I'm woefully allergic to chocolate. What about you, favorite foods/weird or annoying allergies? And last round of the night--a couple of random questions. Favorite TV show? Favorite band? And if you had a Manual, what form would it take and why?
Hello! No worries at all! hope you feel better soon! I love tombow markers (also have to get them for class sometimes haha). And I’d love to see some photos of your work after the reveal!
We’re literally switching places ahaha. Sometimes I feel a little out of place in LA, but most of the time it’s not too different. How bout you, what’s the biggest difference you notice between LA and Berkeley? (I’m back for school, now, and I gotta say the fact that the weather is always +5 degrees is a plus)
My special someone is my boyfriend :D whom I adore, but we only get to be around each other when I’m on break, since he’s back north! We were friends for most all of high school but didn’t actually start dating until a year after we’d graduated. I think sometimes it throws off people who knew us in high school and then find out we’re together now because we’re so different!
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I just had dinner and cake with my family to celebrate (strawberry tiramisu, yum!) And as presents go I got some photography equipment from my friend gave me, a solar system necklace from my bf and a really nice machined copper fountain pen from my parents, plus some other more that I can’t quite remember at the moment!
I don’t have any allergies, actually, but I am vegetarian which makes things difficult occasionally!
Favorite TV show: Leverage because it’s so feel good and endlessly rewatchable
Favorite Band: Daughter (i’m a sucker for depressing music)
And I think my manual would take the form of a sketchbook because I’ve always got one with me anyways, might as well!

Dai Stiho cousin! Apologies for missing another day - my area has been having a lot of weather-related difficulties. But we already talked about the weather! So let's talk weather, Night Vale style: what are some tunes you've been enjoying lately? I've had Lindsey Stirling's new album on repeat myself. -YWWA
We all have. There was an impressive rainstorm today... unfortunately, it was on my way home from work.
I’ve been playing the soundtracks from Hamilton and Moana (How Far I’ll Go is gonna win an Oscar, I think) a lot, and also I’ve been listening to a bunch of @tessaviolet‘s songs (Not Over You and Sorry Not Sorry are two of the ones I keep going back to). I need some new music though - maybe I’ll check out Lindsey Stirling!
