Chapter 4 Trivia

Tsukasa's stone-cold goals are revealed.

Tsukasa's still got some lion blood on his hand from the punch he delivered in the last chapter.

Because lions have to be stronger than their prey, they're full of muscle and don't have a lot of fat, making their meat tough. Because of the lack of connective tissue and fat to soften the meat through traditional methods, the best way to do it is slowly over a low temperature which prevents the meat overcooking while allowing the connective tissue to break down and soften. Recommendations for cooking lion meat say 57°C over 24 hours. After that, it apparently tastes like pork, but richer.

(I couldn't find any sources on the meat smelling or tasting like ammonia, I'm forced to assume it's a side effect of their territory-marking urine?)

Normally it takes 6-8 weeks to make leather out of skin, but here Tsukasa is wearing it immediately and probably even before the body's become cold, judging by Taiju carrying Yuzuriha's statue to the base in the next panel. This is absolutely disgusting. Don't do this please.

Here we have proof Senku switches out his pouches based on what he needs. What's actually in them is anyone's guess though!

Smoking food works for several reasons. It dries the food (preventing fungal/bacterial growth), the smoke keeps insects away during the process, and the smoke itself imparts preservative and antimicrobial compounds such as the aldehydes Senku mentions. (Too much is toxic though!)

According to Senku, Tsukasa's skin is extremely pale. I'm not sure if this means he's got Snow White's complexion, or if Senku and Taiju are by comparison very tanned from working outside all day.

Tsukasa may have deemed himself the fighter, but he's no meathead! Based off his thoughtful comments, it looks like Tsukasa is quite scientifically knowledgeable himself, just not as much as Senku.

Adding lime (calcium carbonate) to soil reduces its acidity. Most plants prefer a pH of 6-7.5, which is neutral to slightly acidic. Obviously adding lime to already alkaline soil will make it even more alkaline, so you should test your soil first. Some plants like the acidity!

Heating lime to over 900°C releases CO2 and forms calcium oxide. Adding water and sand to it creates mortar, a substance that hardens by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and turning it back into calcium carbonate.

Fun fact: you can use the carbon in mortar for carbon dating!

To make soap, you need a fat (vegetable oil, bacon grease) and a base (lye, wood ash, lime). The goal is to saponify the fat. In modern soaps, calcium carbonate is added to bulk up the product and act as a mild abrasive.

Taiju is a very good friend for Senku because he obviously pays good attention and has a good memory. That is all.

He's just not that great for subtlety or negotiations...

Legally, "disfigurement" means to cause permanent change in a person's body, particularly by leaving visible scars which affect a person's appearance. We don't see any of that on Tsukasa, so did they heal? Was he fighting with broken fingers pre-petrification? What happened?

Freshly broken stone parts are colored in white. Does this mean as long as the stone is still white/unblemished, the pieces can be recombined?

Haha yeah it would be a shame if an evil dictator was woken up...

I still don't understand why Tsukasa skinned the lion where it dropped instead of bringing it back with them if they were going to eat the meat anyway...

CH5 - Enemies on Duty

You sat on your knees gently blowing the small fire in the hut that became your little home for you and Senku. It was getting dark out and fairly chilly, so you offered to start the fire while he and Chrome cleaned up from today’s Ramen fiscal. It was quite an odd day, let’s be real. There was now a newbie on the grounds aside from yourself but no one knew whether to trust him or not. You couldn’t say you were fully comfortable around him or his mind games…

-Earlier that Day-

After Senku and Chrome completed the ramen, yourself, Kohaku and Suika finished making the mobile stand for it. Suika had a fun time decorating it and Kohaku felt pretty amazed how easy it was to create something so useful. Everybody loaded the cart and wheeled it to the bridge’s entrance at the village. Chef Stone popped the top off the pot and allowed the smell to bring any curious villager to try it. You aided serving bowls to the towns people. A blonde boy slowly leaned towards you, his eyes large with curiosity.

“M-may I please have a bowl?” he politely ask. It was less than a moment after that he was pulled back by a taller dark haired boy with a frown on his face.

“Ginro! You know the rules! We’re not allowed to eat that stuff!” He stated.

“Awww, c’mon Kinro! It smells super yummy! Everyone else is enjoying it!” The boy you now know as Ginro retorted.

“I can assure you both a bowl of this won’t do you any harm,” you smiled softly, outstretching the bowl in your hands a bit more. “It’s really delicious~” Kinro obviously wasn’t budging, while Ginro kept whining at him to at least let him have a bowl. Chrome stepped up next to you with a gleam in his eyes.

“(Y/n) right you know,” He grinned slyly, “and you’ll feel amazing afterwards. C’mon, give it a shot! You know you want too!~” Least you had Chrome as your back up with the stubborn brunette and the whiny blonde, Kinro and Ginro.

“Kinro! Ginro! I need you two to focus!” All four of you turned to look at Kohaku, who was stretching a bit with a glare in her blue eyes. “We’ve got trouble…”

It happened so fast, you were a little shook. All three of them surrounded this black and white haired boy who was eating some ramen. You know you didn’t serve him, but the look on his face was unsettling. Senku seemed unfazed, arms crossed with a blank stare. Chrome must have felt your unease and took a small step in front of you. Kohaku was questioning if he worked for a long-haired man, Senku knew of this man named Gen from 3700 years ago and at the end of the day, he was here for his own gains.

“I’m a mentalist,” he gleamed, “I always choose the winning side and it’s as simple as that. However, as it stands, you do have a little more eye-candy in your science kingdom than Tsukasa has.” He eyed Kohaku and yourself, she was about to stab him if Senku didn’t hold back her arm, while a shiver just ran down your spine. You weren’t much of the fighting type, your glad Kohaku was enough of one for both of you. You glanced over at Senku, who didn’t spare you a glance, though you felt something unsettled between you two. From the conversation, there was a long haired man named Tsukasa out there and he was fighting against Senku. Why hadn’t anybody told you about this? Senku didn’t just forget, he never forgets! Is that why he always sent Kohaku out in the woods for supplies? Because there was some guy they were battling? Even a couple of the group trips he would find other things for you to work on at the base, he never let you come with them much. You weren’t sure if you felt a little hurt or thankful, you had no idea how big this battle was.

“Don’t worry Gen,” Senku smirk, the words snapping your thoughts back to the conversations. “By the end of the week, I’m ten billion percent sure you’ll be joining our Kingdom of Science!”

“We’ll see what happens,” Gen smiled back, everybody giving him extremely suspicious looks. No one trusted him, which was obvious. What if there was more coming? You weren’t ready for that, what’s their goal, don’t they want civilization back? Or are they a group from Kohaku’s time? How powerful are they, do they have weapons, what about--

“(Y/n)?” His gentle hand was placed on your shoulder, you let out a small surprised squeak that accidentally escaped your lips. As you grabbed the hand and looked up, realizing it was just Chrome, you relaxed again. You sighed and let go of his grip, though he didn’t quite yet. “Are you okay? You seem on edge…”

“I don’t think I like him…” You muttered while you two tailed behind the group, Kohaku pushing the kart with Senku and Gen walking beside her, Suika rolling in her ball with the villagers that now owed the scientist their labor. “And I especially don’t like not knowing what’s going on.” You heard Chrome let out a little sigh.

“Senku was going to talk to you tonight…but this surprise was unexpected—“

“If there’s danger out there, shouldn’t I know as soon as possible?”

“He wanted you to focus on regaining your strength. He said the idea of a threat make might you a bit anxious right when you settled into our new place.”

You wrapped your arms around yourself, stopping another shiver that was about to strike. You stared at the back of Gen’s head for a moment. “I know Senku’s insanely smart, but I hope he knows what he’s doing.”

“Trust him (y/n), he hasn’t lead us astray once yet.” Chrome smiled proudly when you looked to him. His good nature lightened your chest a bit, cracking a small smile out of you too.

Now, here you were, after a long day of creating Ramen from scratch, the new mentalist Gen in the area and you offered to start the fire in the hut while they cleaned up the stand. You thought Senku’s gaze had softened a bit when you took advantage of this lame escape from them, but you didn’t want to be around Gen. His claim to fame is a mentalist, and that’s the last person you need messing with your head right now. Feelings of hurt were mixed with thankfulness and anger, you didn’t know how to feel exactly. You didn’t have much more time to consider when the dirt shuffled outside and a moment later, the scientist walked inside.

“Hey,” he hummed as he walked over next to you and took a seat on your left. You let out a small hum in response, not even forming a word. That was a bit rude, but again, your emotional confusion was better left in lesser words right now. You poked the fire with a stick, trying to keep it lit and burning. Senku rubbed the back of his neck and glanced away.

“I owe you an explanation.”

“Yes, you do. I’m more surprised you didn’t tell me sooner.” You kept your sentence stern, even though you, inside, were a mess of confusion. You heard him take a deep breath.

“It’s easy to explain but I didn’t want to worry you. That’s the last thing you need.”

“Let me choose what I worry about Senku.” You looked up at him, staring him straight in his ruby eyes. He held eye contact for a moment, understanding your seriousness. His hand fell down to his side again and he turned slightly more towards you.

“Not long after my de-petrification and Taiju’s, we were chased down by a group of lions. We ran to a petrified man known as Tsukasa, the world’s strongest high schooler. I’m sure you know of him.” Your slight nod confirmed you knew him a bit. “We had created a mixture to destroy the petrification and only had one bottle in that moment, so we used it on him. He saved our lives and worked with us on surviving for a short period of time.” His voice dropped an octave and became a bit softer, “I learned of his desire for the world, he wants to destroy all the adults and build an army of the young and agile, make it his sense of pure. He killed many statues already. When it finally came down to it, he killed me.” You raised an eyebrow a bit, still listening, but obviously questioning. “The de-petrification formula is what saved my life, he hit me where I still had some stone on my neck. Taiju and Yuzuriha revived me. Our plan from that point was to split up. They act as spies in Tsukasa’s army while I build and prepare the Kingdom of Science.”

“That still doesn’t explain why you didn’t tell me sooner…what if Gen really is here to kill us then? If he’s on Tsukasa’s team?”

“It seemed logical enough to let you grow comfortable in a safe space while regaining your strength before hitting you with a bolder like that.”

“But what if Gen is a trap?” Your voice raised a bit, you were getting a bit frustrated with him and felt like he wasn’t giving you a straight answer. “What if Tsukasa came here himself? The day I joined the team should have been the day you told me!”

“It doesn’t really work well to invite someone recovering into your team to tell them there’s a murderer out on the loose, but please sleep soundly as we’re still building our weapons!” He snapped a bit back, but mostly kept his composure. He knew he was still in the wrong for not telling you, to be honest, he still didn’t know why he couldn’t just say it at the beginning like you were claiming he should have.

Your eyes soften and you looked down to the ground. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. “I guess even during my recovery, I want to be able to support you all too. If I don’t know the situation, I’m more of a liability than anything.”

Senku’s red orbs never left your face. He watched your features droop as you apologized. He didn’t like that, it didn’t suit you. When you were trying to serve ramen to Kinro and Ginro, the stupid grin you had on your face, that was more fitting. He found himself rubbing your hair with a small smile on his face, you whined a bit at his action and grabbed his hand off.

“I’m sorry too. I’ll do better. But know this, you’re not a liability, we don’t consider you as such and never have. You’re a very important member of our kingdom and I can’t do this without you.”

Your (e/c) orbs stared into his gorgeous red ones as he spoke. Your heart beat a bit faster as you felt his words held so much emotion and so much security. He really did value you, even though you done so little for him so far. Now you were determined to do more! His chuckled brought you out of your daze in his eyes, and also since they closed in the moment.

“How long until I can have my hand back? It is getting pretty cold.” Your cheeks flushed a slight pink and you let go of his hand and mumbled an apology. He shrugged it off and stepped over to his futon as you snuggled into yours. Senku didn’t even realize how long he had been staring straight back into your eyes, how soft your hands were holding his one, your fingers so small and delicate. He realized none of this until he was laying in his futon and suddenly missed the feeling. He glanced past the fire to your futon, you were curled into a ball with your back to him. Why was he finding you intriguing like this?

The mentalist outside the hutch had a huge grin on his face. Of course he knew what (y/n) was thinking. He could use this information well, plus the information on Senku that the boy isn’t a fan of relationships. This was all becoming very interesting! He quietly snuck back to his make-shift sleeping space under the science shed.

You suddenly gasped and shot straight up from the ground, a light layer of sweat glistening your skin, your eyes wide and heart racing. You hugged your knees to your chest in your futon, placing your head on your knees. ‘Bad dream…’ you thought as you worked to calm yourself down. The fire seemed a little more than half out and Senku was still asleep across from it. ‘Just a bad dream…’ you rubbed your arms in comfort, now realize you were shaking slightly. It would take a while now to fall back asleep at this rate. You’re not sure why you’re getting bad dreams now though, but you had a feeling it was to do with Gen’s appearance and forcing the talk with Senku about the murderer Tsukasa. Your dream about being killed by this man in the Stone Age was definitely under your skin now. You had to try to force yourself to sleep…morning’s work would come soon. That dream was way to brutal for you to sleep comfortably that night now.

summer 2019 anime sum-up

lmao i realized i never did this and posted the fall season b4 this.... oops

kimetsu no yaiba: tbh started out kinda meh. and now it’s turned into one of the new big shounens. i was not expecting that. nearing the end got rly good and i was rly looking forward to more episodes! tanjiro gets cooler and cooler! animation is rly nice (thanks ufotable) and the way tanjiro’s water is animated. like. aesthetic asf. it’s so good. i love black-haired emo dude and zenitsu (my spirit animal) and ofc nezuko she is adorable im c r y. side note: the hashira? i think they’re called? some of the ugliest fkn characters i’ve seen in ages like flame boy? stone boy? i HATE them. and the gem dude too like man get a new tattoo artist on god.... he needs it.,,,,,,and inosuke is so pretty it’s unfair

dr stone: ok man dr stone rly went off. tbh. i’ve always been a whore for chemistry since reading the flavia de luce series (btw, i want more books of) and watching this just tickles my noodle brain in a good way... who needs prozac when i get a shitton of serotonin from watching senku dick around....  (btw what is going on with what’s his face and the girl. yuzuriha????? i can’t remember. i love senku don’t get me wrong but i need their perspective too... bc i hate lion dude... so much.... dick....) again i will repeat that i am a whore for chemistry so i get oFF on this. backgrounds are amazing/ animation so nice n clean (most o the time lmao). i thought i would hate the black n white haired trickster boi and ms yellow ponytail and suika but no! dr stone is such a good show that they are now great, loveable characters. also i am senku and chrome’s whore so jfc. man, i love the explanations of all the chemistry shabang, but some things i think would be better if explained! like senku doing physical labour at the beginning- ex. making all those pots and building that shit by hisself. i know he weak af. yes he smart but like. construction? difficult. pottery? even for me the artist . difficult. and that shed of his was filled to the brim. HOW. anyways, i love this so much i am crying constantly

just realized i didnt need to write about dr stone. oh well. 

danmachi 2: wtf yo. haruhime is so pretty but not a fan of her personality! bell still cute af and still don’t rly like aiz! animation good as always, and my god i shit myself whenever the argonaut theme starts up bc that is ? one of the best pieces of non-sawano hiroyuki pieces i’ve ever heard? addicted to it. and the opening! love the dynamics, the brief ‘rain’ scenes like when mikoto slashes the raindrops and just her motion basically? as an animator that is what i aspire to accomplish because i just love that. tiny little scene. 

arifureta: this would have been so much better had they dragged out mc’s op-ifying process! made him suffer more! i explained this briefly in my ‘first thoughts’ post for this season, but story-wise and pacing-wise his power-up could have been so much more deserved and gratifying. think shield hero- loser suffers, gets angry, slowly builds up power in an epic payoff! would have been so epic too. and also if they’d made his gained powers less.... crazy nerfed. again: HE SHOULD HAVE SUFFERED MORE AND THIS WOULD HAVE MADE A BETTER SHOW. harem thoughts: yue- meh. sucky char honestly. shea- my fav girl, she is a great character don’t judge- sexy and love her personality and love her character design and love how much fanservice she gets lol. panty flash ftw. dragon girl- discount darkness honestly , tho nice design. and mermaid girl- yuck, annoying,  DO NOT like the ‘papa’ trope! (ahem sao.) it’s gross. also just fuck mc’s classmates honestly- paladin dude sucks ass, healer girl OOF that last episode ruined her, samurai girl is ok i guess. hate ai-sensei too like shut UPP annoying ass HOEEEEE (postscript: opening=very epic too)

kanata no astra: plot twist? check. trillion well-done plot twists? check. this was done very well. i am so happy. all those plot twists and turns would usually suck in any regular anime- but this was written with GODLIKE ability. thank you, lerche. legit, this was such an enjoyable ride, i eagerly awaited each new ep! typically i hate space-related stuff but like! survival stuff gets my goat.... like this was good- (tho maybe more technical-stuff in the survival theme would make it so cooler) what shocked me the most: (spoilers alert) didn’t end up hating quitterie or funi. (tho the puppet made me want to strangle smth) luca’s gender had rly confused me but i’d decided on him being a boy- so basically that reveal left me like WHOA. i died. did luca rly have to show emo boy their tity tho... kanata losing his arm gave me the yeeeks, charce being the traitor was made sO WELL into a surprise even tho i’d kinda already suspected him<- like that was just fucking amazing writing there. gj. and ares the princess! ok man! shocked! AND also the whole clone thing, just fucked me right up. up the ass. like there are probably more plot twist layers in this than a fkn ogre has.... anyway shrek aside, yun?’s character arc was very pleasing, i think that was done very well! and the ending made me UwU like BRO? goals tbh. yeah this is a hidden gem and is just so good, so well-written overall. 

cop craft: didn’t have high expectations. i am now,,, quite,,, shocked &,,, blown away. sweetheart this is a good fucking show. so why @ livechart.me DOES IT HAVE 7.40 STARS WHEN FKN ARIFURETA HAS 7.72. can someone explain this to me? i’m outraged. LIVID.  matoba and tilarna were amazing characters btw! loved their dynamic! briefly i thought it might get romantic! nope, it didn’t, so it’s all good. actions scenes were epic, tilarna’s design and outfits were so much nicer than i thought they’d be like. she is so cute. and the op- man, if that is not such a bopper vibe then idk what is. i could watch it forever. it deserves so much more than what it’s got rn.

naka no hito genome: (serious question: is this considered some sort of isekai?) genome gave me btooom vibes honestly but like- this is SO much better than btooom and most game/trap/ kinda shows. fkn BOP of an op, especially the sequence at the end with short clips of each character in action (nutt). paka-san was a good boy and he deserves irl merch. i fell in LOve with all the characters (bubble boy= hot, akatsuki= ok meh actually kinda boring, karin= hot and i want her to punch me, ruromori= beautiful 12/10 would let her stalk me, sleepy eyes boy= baby + dazai vibes and hot af, twin boy= also hot, onigasaki= hot and love him so much, and loli girl= her light grenades got annoying but nice char design) anyways yeah more of this would be epic. i wanna see sakura and her twin reunite, and how they get out basically! also animation quality was very good which is surprising considering it’s a silver link anime.

kono yo no hate de koi wo utau shoujo yu-no: i include the whole title bc this is a good anime. (also livechart.me why 7.27 stars i will fuck you up) only meh part of this is the return to earth from dela granto bc that was like a culture shock and honestly at that point i’d forgotten a lot about what had happened on earth and didn’t care as much. btw, f ayumi and f the other brown-haired oneesan. mio and kanna ftw. obvs i didn’t understand the sayless x takuya thing like dumbass horny teenager . why u gotta creampie the worst girl. u have mio. bruh. (tho mio x ‘oyabi!’ boy is a great ship) also, takuya’s mom? keiko-san? idk if you’ve noticed but that’s literally my name so yeah just glad to finally have some keiko representation. altogether goodass anime. the time travel/ rezero esque reset thing almost got me but this was done well. so no problems. both ops very good. first song was bae, second also bae (just realized it’s by konomi suzuki, one of my waifu idols, so yea nice) and ed2 also so pretty! also yu-no’s design was rly pretty, the outfit colours, and her pigtails rly suited her :)

granbelm: sorry this is the last one lol this was a long ass post! other than the fact i dont rly like mecha this was good.... action, CHARACTER designs aesthetic asf, honestly rly pretty ok. i liked the cast, very diverse and more depth than most shows of this ilk. op was nicely choreographed- especially the part where the girls’ faces are contorted by their gems, showing their magical girl side. nicely done. mangetsu didn’t end up being that bad a char, and honestly? suigetsu is best girl and deserved better. and the ending too- like, bro, that made me kinda sad. some off points: anna’s mom was a little unrealistic as a mom like woman- please learn to control your child, and, white-haired girl’s sister should have played a bigger part, based on how her parts in the opening were emphasized! (quick note- blue girl, love her, great bad guy, when she dumped anna made me so happy honestly, she is beautiful, and i couldn’t actually decide who i wanted to win between her and suigetsu....)

Starmyu Data Sheet (Long Post)

So, I got bored and decided to do sort of a data sheet for the Starmyu characters. There are three sections. Sorted by age, sorted by height and sorted by blood type. I like to have that sort of data sorted like that when I write. 

Since I like doing my data sheets in Japanese, I'm posting them in both Japanese and English. Feel free to use this as reference if you wan to.

I'll start with the age data sheet since that one has some additional information.

A) It is stated in Japan's School Education Law, Article 17 Paragraph 1, that elementary school is started from the first semester beginning after the day the age of six is reached. B) The Age Calculation Law and Article 143 of the Civil Code stipulate that a person takes one year (reaching a full year) at the time the day prior to the birthday ends (24:00). In other words, the day when a full year of age is reached is on the day before the birthday (at 24:00). Not on the day of the birthday (at 00:00). For example, I was born 27 February at 06:56. According to this, I would have been considered been 25 by 26 February at 24:00.  C) According to Article 59 of the Enforcement Regulation of the Scholasticism Act, the elementary school grade begins on 1 April and ends on 31 Mach the following year.

The names of Team Yuzuriha’s members follow a similar motif to the rest of the teams (like how Team Sazanami members have directions in their names). Team Yuzuriha members have kanji characters for insects in their names~! 

Ageha is  [揚羽] so he’s a “swallowtail butterfly”.

Hachiya is  [蜂矢] wherein [蜂/hachi] means “bee”.

And Team Yuzuriha is like a garden XD
