The Dangers in My Heart (Season 2, 2024, Japan)
Director: Hiroaki Akagi
Writer: Jukki Hanada (based on the manga by Norio Sakurai)
Mini-review:
Now this is how you make a second season: it takes everything that made the first one so charming and then elevates it to the next level. Few shows capture the awkwardness and cringiness of being 13/14 like The Dangers in My Heart. The humor and the character writing are just so realistic, even if it gets a bit over-the-top at times (and that's part of its charm too!). This season also ramps up the angstiness, especially during the last few episodes, and it all leads up to a gorgeous finale. I know the manga is still ongoing, but if the anime ends here, at least it went out in style and cemented itself as one of the best anime romcoms of all time. Still, I really do hope we get more seasons.

Jukki Hanada is writing the scripts, Masato Katsumata on character design, and Kensuke Ushio is composing the music. The band Atarayo will perform the opening theme song titled “Boku wa…,” while singer Kohana Lam, who previously performed the ending theme song “Suu Sentimental” for the anime’s first season, returns to sing the ending theme song “Koi Shiteru Jibun Sura Aiserunda.” The cast also reprises their roles:Hina Yomiya as Anna YamadaShun Horie as Kyotaro IchikawaNobuhiko Okamoto as Shou AdachiAki Toyosaki as Honoka HaraYukari Tamura as Kana IchikawaGen Satou as Kenta KanzakiAyaka Asai as Chihiro KobayashiMegumi Han as Moeko SekineNobunaga Shimazaki as Haruya NanjouJun Fukushima as Chikara OtaHIDIVE and Bilibili are streaming the first season of the anime which premiered in April this year and the latter describes the series as follows:Kyoutaro Ichikawa may have the appearance of a typical middle schooler, but his heart is filled with murderous fantasies. It is therefore not surprising that Anna Yamada, the class idol, is constantly on his thoughts as the person he wants to kill the most. He unintentionally starts a meeting with Yamada while reading alone in his favorite school library, and she shows up to sneakily feast on her favorite candies and sweets. Ichikawa learns how much of a ditz Yamada is via their conversations and is forced to cheer her on from the sidelines. Yamada herself can’t help but tease Ichikawa nonstop because of his agitated responses. The distant connection between the two deepens into something more than just library acquaintances as a result of a variety of touching daily interactions. Ichikawa might eventually understand that his violent fantasies have changed into something quite else.Source: Official Website©Norio Sakurai (Akita Shoten) / Boku Yaba Production CommitteeAfter AnimeCorner
