The fifth costume I finished this year was Kureha (Magical Girl-Bear) from YuriKuma Arashi!🐻💕💕 While this was a somewhat simple costume that I had started in summer 2021, she ended up on the back burner for over a year because I just couldn’t decide on which chiffons to go with for her Overskirt! On a personal note, this series + character mean a lot to me, because they helped me accept that I was a lesbian as well as stopped me from hating myself because of my sexual orientation. Representation matters y’all!🏳️‍🌈 BEAR SHOCK!!✨

Fall And Winter Treats: Honey Ginger Milk

So in the Midwest we have finally hit a cold spell and I figured it was time to bring up a classic drink recipe from a great series, Yuri Kuma Arashi, where Ginko makes honey ginger milk.  A lot of people would consider this to be just a sweet treat for the colder months. While this is true, there are a series of benefits to it that include a great cure for sore throats and colds, Morning sickness, painful menstruation, LDL reduction, aching muscles and many more! Before We get right to it, let me tell you now, this is not a simple recipe per se as you can't just slap ingredients together, but the taste will blow your mind if done right! (lesson learned: raw ginger will make cold milk separate..you do not want that)

What you will need is right in the name:  a cup of milk ( I personally used 1% here, but I believe almond and any variety of milk will work with this ) A tbsp of fresh grated ginger As much honey as you prefer

In a small saucepan, heat milk until scalded and steaming .small bubbles will appear along the sides of the pan as  good indicator.

Next, add grated ginger to the hot milk and stir to incorporate then turn off the heat and let sit for 2 to  5 minutes, thoroughly steeping the ginger in the milk. I suggest reheating before pouring into a cup, but only if necessary.

When you pour into a cup, strain the milk through a fine mesh strainer to remove the ginger (don't want that pulp here) and use the back of a spoon to squeeze any remaining milk out of the grated ginger.

An additional ingredient or two would be fresh ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top  to garnish which would accent the flavors nicely.

Now, add honey  to preference, stirring to dissolve completely and serve immediately!

Rinoa Heartilly (Hannah Alexander Artwork) from Final Fantasy VIII. I had started working on this at the start of the pandemic and really hope to finish her by the end of the year!

Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon Crystal. Dream costume of mine ever since I was a little girl. I had started working on her in July of 2021 with the beading appliqué.

Kureha Tsubaki (Magical Girl-Bear) from Yurikuma Arashi. Dream costume from a series that means so much to me. Kureha helped me quit being “invisible” and finally come out of the closet!

Mari Makinami (Last Mission plugsuit) from Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0. Making a plugsuit has been a HUGE dream of mine since I was in the middle school, and I’m super-pumped to be working on this!

Hitomi Kanzaki (Adom village dress) from Escaflowne the Movie. This outfit is only on screen for less than 5 minutes, but I love it and Escaflowne is my favorite anime!
